Funeral for the 2025 Houston Astros | Gallant Says LIVE 9/30
the 20 25 Houston Astros are dead. I’m Paul Galot and this is the Galot says podcast. You know, a radio show host in Seattle called Paul Galant. Paul Galant’s wondering the same things a lot of people wonder. You are definitely living in the hindsight world today. Paul, do you feel there’s been a consistent theme with the interceptions? I think every interception really has a different story. I was just kind of curious what Paul gets to seeing grow mother. Are you kidding me? Oh, go on. What the hell is wrong with you? [Music] Hello and welcome aboard a very somber edition of the Golans podcast. It is Tuesday, September 30th live on YouTube, Paul Golant, like and subscribe on Twitch at Galantes. Give me a sub on X on Twitter. Echolant says Echolon says pod on Instagram at sportsgalant and on Facebook at Paul Golant sports. You can join the show Monday through Friday at noon central time and occasionally after major Houston sporting events. Sometimes this show is also available live on the Tik Tok. It’s available after the fact. Wherever you get your podcasts, Apple Podcasts, Spotify. If you ever want to cut me off mid thought, watch along the best way to watch this show, which is on YouTube. And if you super chat me, I’ll play this. Paul, stop talking. Listen, I will eventually get to your comments, which you can leave by email. Galant saysgmail.com and by giving me a phone call and leaving a voicemail at 2818363912. We’re going to get this thing started on TikTok as well because I think ultimately all of us are here gathered today because we have lost something. We have lost something very close to us. After all of these years, we’re about to enter an uncharted world. A world where our Houston Astros are not playing postseason baseball. How sad. How tragic. It’s something that none of us wanted. And it bums me out because you all know me. There’s no denying that I am the biggest baseball fan in the city of Houston, Texas. Just like I am also the greatest baseball mind in the city of Texas. It is a burden that I carry with me every single day. So when a day like this comes where we have to officially lay our Houston Astros to rest, you can see why. One, I dress for the occasion. I have an Astros lapel. I have a black tie. I’m wearing glasses so that in case I do tear up, you won’t be able to see it. But I’m sure you’ll be able to hear the emotion in my voice. And these glasses can’t hide that. They just can’t. So, I apologize in advance for any tears that might come up. Okay. Anyway, how do you best remember someone? How do you best remember a friend that’s no longer with you? How do you do it? It’s not easy. I think that we have to set the mood some way, shape, or form. And perhaps playing this in the background will help bring us peace as we remember what the 2025 Astros did. [Music] Rest in peace, our beloved 2025 Houston Astros. The eighth straight playoff appearance streak. The fourth longest in baseball history is over. Our beloved Astros were the final team eliminated from the American League playoffs on Saturday after they finished the 2025 season, their fewest wins in 162 season since 2016. He also did this despite having one of the top 10 payrolls in baseball. But we do not speak ill of the dead. We will never forget that moment in time. Fourth of July weekend, fireworks in the air, the United States of America celebrating its freedom, where the Astros went into Los Angeles and swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in a series where no one also was assaulted or murdered at the Dodgers parking lot. They were 20 games above 500. They led the American League West by seven games. We will try to forget that they were 30 and 40 in the remaining 70 games, that they still led the American League West by four games September 3rd, and that they were tied with the Mariners at top the American League West about two weeks ago, only to lose six of their last seven. We will never forget there were lots of injuries, lots of trials, lots of tribulations to overcome along the way. Yordon Alvarez missed a hundred games with a muscle strain in his hand that was actually a fracture that no one did any imaging on. Jake Myers hurt his calf, then got an MRI in his calf and was told he could play and then fell to the ground driving in pain. Lance McCullers had at least four separate trips to the injured list. flexor tendon surgery, right foot sprain, a blister that kept them out like two months, right hand soreness. We will never forget the three Tommy John surgeries that Astros pitchers got that were supposed to be a part of the rotation. Lonel Blanco, Hayden Wisneski, Brandon Walter. Also, Luis Garcia got elbow surgery. Apparently, it’s not Tommy John surgery. Josh hater. I don’t know what a left shoulder capsule sprain is. Sounds bad. Jeremy Pñena, you had a rib injury. Jeremy Pena, you had an oblique injury. And Eso Perez had maybe the worst hamstring tear we’ve ever seen. There were some moments we’ll always remember and appreciate, like the one game Jesus Sanchez was good, the entirety of Carlos Korea’s return to town, and so much more. We will never forget the calling cry for our beloved Astros in the 2025 season. In case you never saw it, let’s go back and watch it one more time because we sure as [ __ ] were hyped when we first saw this video. The stars are shifting, but the foundation we’ve built is rooted in defining the standard. Success doesn’t come without trials. Calluses from the consistency. [Music] Just a just a note and again we are we do not speak ill of the dead but the most consistent thing for the Astros this year was us consistently being pissed off at the medical staff. Our fans they expect greatness. We demand it. The pressure doesn’t break us. It sharpens us. Well, except for in September. For every early workout, every extra inning. We’re all 162. Reaching the pinnacle isn’t luck. It’s persistence through the storm. We’re persistent in the storm for a little bit. We know who we are and what we’re after. You can try to shutter the strobes, but the window is always open. Except for for the next month or so. [Music] We are built for this. Well, some would argue that’s not the case. As our funeral memories continue, [Music] so many cherished memories for these 2025 Astros, [Music] like that line you just heard, we are built for this. But this year, we experienced some things that we never thought about. We never thought we would. We experienced Kyle Tucker from Chicago coming back to town and playing pretty well. Alex Bregman doing the same thing against the Astros. a man who famously once said this. A lot of people were wondering what it was going to be like if the Stros didn’t win the division. I guess we’ll never know. [ __ ] Now we know. Eight straight playoff appearances. So many American League Championship Series appearances. I’m not even kidding. I can’t remember off the top of my head. What was it? Seven, six, four pennants, two World Series. [Music] Perhaps the window does remain open because we are indeed built for this. We’re just not built for it this October. The ghosts of Astro’s gone, Dusty Baker, Martin Maldonado. They asked for Houston. They got Houston. We can join them now finally. [Music] And now I ask that we lay the Astros into their grave with a song that I think every single Astros fan hopes they’ll be so lucky to get upon the end of their life. [Music] [Music] How about them stro? How about them stro anyway? Yeah. Uh season is over. Do we want to stay in funeral mood for a little bit longer? I these these glasses are really bad. There’s duct tape at the bottom of one of the lenses. Says it’s at the bottom one of the lenses because uh I’m not going to lie. Uh I’ve definitely thrown these at one point. Definitely thrown them. Um see the see the duct tape the bottom. They’re reader glasses, too. I I bought these once while on vacation. I didn’t have any glasses and like they got some very very powerful uh like readers at the bottom. I I suppose this is what uh people whose vision starts to go where I am thankful that I am not at that point in my life. What’s the best song to sing at a funeral? You can answer that question and sing yourself on the Golan Says podcast voicemail line at 281-8363912. That’s again 2818363912 or galon says atgmail.com. Reflect the sun. Thank you for the super chat. Thank you very much for the super chat. Paul, stop talking. Listen, not going to lie, I actually have a I have I have another pair of sunglasses. This is just going to make me look uh slightly gayer. But hey, not there’s anything wrong with that. How about these? You can see everything. You can see everything reflecting off of these aviators. Perhaps even porn I might be watching. I kid. I save that for my phone. I kid. I don’t watch it anymore. God, how dare you judge me. Um, what is the best funeral song? I’m not going to lie. This is This is like This is like an oven. This is a goddamn oven. I gotta take the jacket off. I gotta take it off. My air conditioning is like at like 68 in here and I still feel like an absolute oven wearing this jacket as I lay the Houston Astros to rest. The glasses do look sick though. Mr. Adverson, it seems that you’ve not been showing up for work. I don’t know why that version of Agent Smith from the Matrix sounds as much as he does like Dr. Phil. Just work with me here. Not all my impressions are good. Uh I’m an unemployed man. Um anyway, uh asymmetric risk says, “Bag pipes get my emotion out.” Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are piping. And these pipes are pipy, aren’t they? So pipe. Uh, that’s not a bag pipe. That’s the closest thing I have to a bag pup. I think the top of this looks like a bag pipe. Uh, what other funeral songs could we perhaps sing? Um, do we want to do a little Elton John, a little candle in the wind, goodbye Houston Astros? Though I didn’t watch all your games, I have a life. I don’t like watching baseball on the weekends. Goodbye 2025 Astros. You just dealt with so many injuries because your training staff/med staff are a bunch of [ __ ] boobs. And it seems to me you lived your life living on the injured list, never knowing who could play out there. And it made us pissed. And we would have liked to see you playing in October. But now that season’s over. Ah, [ __ ] I couldn’t I couldn’t land the plane. I couldn’t think of something to rhyme. Um, asymmetric risk suggests dust in the wind. Dust in the wind lyrics. I just got to look it up. I close my eyes only for a moment and the playoffs gone. All my dreams built upon a lie in the Astros promo video. We are built for this. [Music] Um, what else do we have from the people on this wonderful Tuesday, September 30th? Songs that you would like to hear at a funeral. How about How about the song? How about the song that they play when when Eric Clapton, Tears in Heaven, didn’t they fall out of window? O, that’s brutal. Will the wind be open if I saw you in heaven? Actually, that’s that is that is not a good that’s not a good lyric to sing. All right, we’re going to scrap that one. Uh, other good songs to sing at a funeral. Could we go two days in a row with Sarah McLaclin? I will remember the 2025 Astros. Will you remember the 2025 Astros? The window still opening crane. [Music] We are built for this. Wait for me. What other songs do you sing at a funeral? Um, it’s been a long day without the Astros in the playoffs. And I’ll tell you all about it when I start watching the Astros again next year. They didn’t really go that far from where they began. They were the last American League team this year. Um, could do that. Could do could do a little a little Andrea Bochelli. No, no one. How about this? No, this that doesn’t work. [Music] Time to say goodbye. The astral season’s over. Oh my. Oh my. It’s [ __ ] There are so many injuries. That makes me angry. How am I the Astros training staff and medical staff and hitting coaches still have a job? As of Tuesday, 12:21 p.m. That pisses me off. I want someone gone. I’m homeless, living under a bridge. sexual favors for cash until I can get back on. Oh, I guess radio’s dying on something that sounds sexual. The Astros did this to me. This is an abomination. Clearly, we’re not. We are built for this. Uh, shout out to Moond Dog who liked the rendition of Candle in the Wind. Um, Mother Eff and Cornbread says, “Paul, you sound like a mix between Fergie and Jesus. Did Jesus sing or is there another musician named Jesus that you’re that you’re talking about?” I think this actually is a great moment to remember that while the 2025 Houston Astros were a bit of a disappointment, it could have been worse. [Music] They didn’t commit any acts of terrorism like this dawn early. What’s so proud [Applause] at the twilight by Steph keeping a straight face professional content. bright stripes and bright stars through the uh someone says Gar Brooks the dance. Uh I I don’t know what that is. Is that a country song? I thought also I thought it was Gar Keith. Isn’t it Toby Brooks? I don’t know. I’m not that I’m not I’m not a big country guy. We We could sing it without me ever having ever heard that song. Lyrics lyrics for G Brooks the dance looking back on the memory of the dance for share beneath the stars above for a moment all the world was right. How could I have known that you’d ever say goodbye and now I glad I didn’t know that way it was in the way it go. Our lives are better left the chance. I could have missed the pain but I’d have to miss a dance. It sounds like that I’m guessing right. Um, someone asks on Tik Tok, “Why is there a funeral today?” Well, the Astros died and I didn’t want to talk about him yesterday because I didn’t watch him over the weekend. I I didn’t watch a [ __ ] second of Astros baseball over the weekend. Codai Joe is a great funeral song. Where the Astros go? Why aren’t the Astros playing in the playoffs? Why aren’t the Astros winning they go? Why won’t they be playing in the show? How about that? All right. Um, I’m going to take the glasses off, at least temporarily, so I can see. It’s hard to see. These those are not great glasses. The the good glasses I have are in my girlfriend’s purse. And uh since she’s not at her apartment and she’s in Portland, Oregon, where I am going later this uh tonight, um not Portland, Oregon, uh south of Portland, Oregon. Uh I These are the ones I got. Oh, did those just break, too? That’s a bummer. That is a bummer. H uh does Carlos Koreah make you feel any better here? Does he make you feel better hearing him talking about what’s next for the team after it all officially ended on Saturday? Here is Carlos Koreah Astros third baseman at least for now. Um there’s going to be a lot of work this off season. You know, I want to apologize to the fans in Houston for, you know, falling short. It’s is not what they’re accustomed to. Um they’re they’re used to watching play baseball. They look forward to that every single year. Um it’s a beautiful time of the year in Houston and we were not able to accomplish that this year, but u we promise our fans in Houston that this offseason is going to be one of a lot of hard work. We’re gonna all gonna get better and next year will be one to remember. I hope so. I mean, on paper, even with all the injuries, between the payroll and the names on this team, they should have made the playoffs. You’re never going to be able to convince me that this team wasn’t good enough to make the playoffs. You’re just not. They had a lot of talent. And I get that some injuries happened and I get that some players underachieved, but I I still think they had enough horses along the way. And with all due respect to the Mariners, who finish off the season on the hottest of streaks from early August on, to the point where they actually have a buy in the first round of the playoffs. I mean, the Mariners had 90 wins. They beat you by three games to win the West. Three. It’s pretty crazy looking at the American League. Just three teams had 90 wins or more. The Mariners, the Yankees, and the Blue Jays. That’s it. Wild, right? So, with all that in mind, like you should have been able to get to 90. Instead, you end up with the fewest wins that you’ve had since 2016. I like that Kareah is back. I think that the Astros were missing that leader this year with Bregman gone and with some of the changes that took place, but next year we got to see some serious changes, I think. What’s the first head to go on a spike? Astros GM Dana Brown had this to say when asked about what’s next for the team. He said that they’re going to take a complete look at all of our operations. Good. There’s one operation that I think we all [ __ ] agree should be changed. It’s the Astros medical and training staff. The return to play procedure is a goddamn disaster. You can’t blame the Astros medical staff for every single injury that they went through this year, but how is there no followup on Yordon Alvarez’s hand as far as imaging a muscle strain turns into a hand fracture? How do you not know about that? Especially after Kyle Tucker and what were they calling it last year? A shin contusion ended up being a fracture per Kyle Tucker after the year was done. How the [ __ ] is Jake Meyers getting thrown out hours after having his right calf looked at crumpling like a ball essentially? How does that happen? And then think about some of the players that have seemingly been rushed back to the point where we’re hearing Astros pitchers ask aloud about the return to play process. Something that really hasn’t been asked since James Click was asking those same questions right before he got canned after the Astros won the World Series in 2022. Former Astros GM. Three guys had Tommy John’s this year. There’s an elbow surgery for Luis Garcia. That’s essentially a fourth Tommy John surgery. Spencer Aragetti had elbow inflammation. What is going on when it comes to the Astros in the way that they take care of their pitchers? The medical staff is the one thing that I would like gone next year. I’m not blaming them for all the injuries. There were a lot. 28 Astros spent time on the injured list. 18 at the same time at one point. They apparently lost per baseball prospectus and fan graphs more potential value than any other team in the sport. Yordon played just 48 games. Josh her didn’t play since early August. Jeremy Pñena had a rib injury that kept him out a bit of time. The oblique injury at the end. Jake Meyers dealing with injuries. Esso Perez missed 60 games. Jos Altuve apparently was playing three. Painful right foot injury the last couple of weeks. Lance McCulla’s had four [ __ ] trips to the IIL missing 91 games. And then you had three Tommy Johns between Blanco, Hayden Wiseski. Those were early on. Brandon Walter, Luis Garcia, Spencer’s thumb breaking as well. Injuries are some excuse for not making the playoffs, but it’s not the whole thing. Uh Dana Brown thinks it’s the injuries more than anything. Quote, “I really think the injuries are what caused us not to get to the postseason. I want the Astros medical staff gone. I want the training staff gone.” I think we all agree on that front. More song requests here. KY says, “Sing Wake Me Up When April starts again.” What is that? Is that um Who’s that? Is it Green Day? Summer has come and passed. The Astros because they were so injured could not last. Wake me up when October ends like Alex Bregman and Carl Tucker came to pass from Bald can’t get out of here fast enough. Wake me up when October ends. Okay, we’re done. We’re done with that one. So, I want the Astros medical and training staff gone. I’m wondering if the actual move to come will be this one. Not Joe Espatada. I think Espatada deserves to stick around for another year. I understand not everyone feels that way. Dana Brown said this about Joe Espatada over the weekend. Quote, “As far as I’m concerned, Joe is under contract. We’re going to take a complete look at all of our operations. As far as I’m concerned, Joe worked hard through this season. We had to battle through a ton of injuries and I really think the injuries are what caused us to not get into the postseason. Keeps on saying that. That is not on Joe. But his hitting coaches I do think need to be gone. Going into the year, Alex Cronone and Troy Snicker, both of whom have been here for eight years, were instructed along with the Spatada by Dana Brown that the team quote needs to start seeing more pitches end quote quote needs to be a little more patient, aggressive in the zone, not so much out of the zone. End quote. How did that go this year? seventh lowest OPS in baseball with runners in scoring position. Eight teams had fewer runs. Three runs or fewer in 81 of 162 games. The hitting was bad, but it was even worse because they weren’t patient. Only the Rockies chased out of the strike zone more than the Astros did this past season. Only the A’s and Pittsburgh Pirates averaged fewer pitches per plate appearance. Yiner Diaz, Christian Walker, Cam Smith, Mauricio Dubon, Jeremy Pñena, Jose Altuve, were all swinging at everything. They all had top 50 swing rates. Six guys in the top 50 in a 30 team league. Esso Perez, who they brought in to help with this, he played just 102 games, but how much can one guy do to change that approach? Either the players were actively ignoring Cron and Snicker or Cone and Snitker didn’t do what they were told to do. Either way, that is fireable. So, I think they should be gone and I think the Astros medical staff should be gone. We will see if any moves like that are made. Is Fronaldez gone? He was 13 and 11 with a 3.6 66 erra this year. 32 years old, unrestricted free agent this off season. Before his last game, he said, “I’m very appreciative of the Astros, all the good memories from my teammates.” And left it open-ended when asked about what he’s prioritizing this winter. Quote, “I’m just trying to make the best decision for my future. I’m going to try and make the best decision for the team that I’m going to sign with like I’ve always done with Houston. I would like to give the best that I can of me and I’m just going to make a decision that will help me and the team. Before the last game of the year, not his last start on Saturday, he said, quote, “I would love to stay in an Astros uniform. It was a team that gave me a chance to be a professional player, gave me a chance to be in the World Series. I would love to stay in an Astros uniform, but we just have to see what the future holds for me. I mean, he’s gone. He’s going to ask for a lot of money. And I think that the latest little temper tantrum issue, the cross up with Cesar Salazar, and there is a track record where I don’t believe’s account saying that was accidental and that there wasn’t any issue. That start came during a 10-star stretch where he had an ERA of 6.05. He had the incidents in 2023 where he threw at Marcus Simeon after a grand slam. He threw at Jose Cavaleros as well, who is a pain in the ass. This is a guy that when things don’t go his way, he spirals. As someone who spirals, I’m empathetic to it. But do you want to pay this guy a [ __ ] ton of money? I don’t know. I don’t think I would. So Frober’s gonna be gone, but not in a he’s fired. You’re fired kind of move. And also, I imagine that the Astros medical staff will be gone, their training staff will be gone, and their hitting coaches are gone. htx Rhino says, “Oi, God wills it.” I wanted to play that while we were talking about the actual funeral, but then I thought to myself, wouldn’t this be blasphemy if we played this and God did not will the Astros to the playoffs? God will. [Applause] God will it. God will it. [Applause] He did not seem to will it. Mother F and Cornbreads thinks that Espatada seemed to lose the team. You’re not alone in thinking that. And while I’m willing to give Espada those injury excuses, I do imagine that if someone else is available, Jim Crane, just knowing who he is, he’s definitely gonna think about it. Like Jim Green’s definitely got to think about AJ Hench, especially if the Tigers are out early with the awful September that they had. They will think about that. I wonder if they bring in Bruce Bochi. That would be funny, huh? Sounds like he’s going back to the Giants because the Giants just fired their manager. I don’t really know who else you would bring in because I think any manager the Astros bring in has to be the name. There’s got to be there’s got to be a sexy attachment to it. Like that’s that’s how Jim Crane operates. Crane likes guys who the casuals recognize, for lack of a better term. People would get excited about Hinch in the same way they got excited about bringing back Carlos Koreah. And look, Koreah, for his part, he did pretty well. Kareah’s numbers upon coming back to the Astros, they’re really [ __ ] good. Koreah after his return to Houston. The numbers are as follows. 290 batting average, 58 hits, six homers, 21 runs batted in, 23 runs, 129 uh not 129, 19 walks, and a 122 lowercase W RC plus. I’m never going to look up what the [ __ ] that means. I ain’t gonna do that. We do have uh the latest from Dana Brown came today. Dana Brown did an interview, I think, on the Astros flagship, I’m guessing. Unless this is just an end of season press conference. Let’s roll through some of what he had to say. Looking at Brian McTagert, I’m gonna see if Dan Matthews posted about it because I don’t know where this interview actually came from. Okay, so Dan, so Dana was not on the Astros today, but here’s what he said via Brian McTagard. He doesn’t want to talk about his contract, Dana Brown’s contract. I think there’s a team option. I will tell you I’m the GM of the Astros, and that’s what I would expect to be tomorrow and the next day. And the next day, Dana Brown should not be fired. I think Dana did the most he could with all the injuries. I think they did a really good job of juggling the roster to continue to win the way that they did. Dana on Espatada’s future. Joe is the manager and Joe is under contract. The club will be in the market to trade for an arm and the Astros have interest in bringing Victor Keratini back who is a free agent. Okay. Very cool. Very awesome. It was the end of season press conference. Okay, let’s see what they have. Naturally, this happens while I’m having my therapy session. My therapist was like, “Hey, Paul, it’s okay. It’s okay, man. You’ll bounce back on your feet. You’ll be back.” Did no one post video? This is one of the frustrating things that we get with baseball media. There’s never any video. Yeah. Nothing at all here. Nothing from Chandler. Nothing from McTagert. Nothing from Matt Kawahara either. We’ll see. But no video. I think there were some people from the TV side of things that were down there. Anyway, how did the Astros get here? Before we take a look at some guys in addition to their hitting coaches, who I think should be gone, their training and medical staff, who I think should be gone, and Valdez, who I’m totally cool letting walk, before we get to who else could be gone, this is how they got there to this place where they missed the playoffs. They didn’t get any pitching at the trade deadline. They probably should have. If you want to criticize Dana Brown for anything, it’s that they were completely [ __ ] once Josh her got hurt. Their RA was nearly five out of the bullpen when her went down. Brian Abrau clearly not ready to be a closer. That might help the Astros out in arbitration with him. And Jesus Sanchez, one of the bats you acquired, stunk. Raone Yurius, you brought in almost as if you weren’t 100% sure you were going to get Carlos Kareah, but they got Kareah. things changed a little bit as far as using Urius. He had some moments. I think he was better than Sanchez. Sanchez had a couple of like awesome games where he seemed like he would be a fan favorite early on and then that was it. The other reasons that the Astros are there in addition to, you know, the injuries and not making enough moves at the deadline, the Seattle Mariners figured out how to hit this year. Never thought we’d see the day, but the Mariners scored a [ __ ] ton of runs this season. 766. That’s not as many as the Blue Jays, Yankees, and Red Sox in the American League, but it’s up there. They had a really good season at the plate. And when you combine that to the pitching that they already have, you got to feel pretty good about their chances in the playoffs, you got to feel really good about their chances. Other reasons, well, the Astros facing a Mariners team that suddenly can hit. That led to a continuation of what’s been a pretty one-sided rivalry for the last three years. And this this is going to sting. I hope the Astros um watched this coming out of uh Fox in Seattle with Aaron Lavine. He he he made it funny and he gets to do this. I will admit it’s a bit unorthodox to start the show with anything aside from the Mariners, but we thought it was even more important to provide you a game by-game schedule for the Astros postseason this year. So, here you will see what Houston will be up to over the course of the next couple weeks. Clearly looking like they will be undefeated on the road to well, nowhere, but undefeated nonetheless. Damn, got us. Can’t really say anything in response to that. I’m sure Adam Clanton and Ben on the Top might respond to that, but like he wins, you lose. There’s there’s no argument. It’s over. It’s over. Seattle is 14. Check that. The Astros are 14 and 25 against the Mariners since beating the Mariners in the 2022 American League Divisional Series. 5-8 this year, 5-8 last year, 4-9 in 2023. Mariners owned that ass the last three years. until they win a World Series. You can have fun and say, “Oh, you’ve never won shit.” Blah, blah, blah. But they’re in pretty good position. HTX Rhino says, “As long as Seattle, New York, or Boston doesn’t win, I’ll be happy.” Um, it’s tough. I I will probably be rooting for Seattle in these playoffs. It’s going to be tough for the Red Sox to ever pull me back. I grew up a Red Sox fan, but like I it’s just I could go in detail in person with you explaining why I don’t like the Red Sox. I don’t want to bore everybody, but I grew up a diehard Red Sox fan and I no longer am a Red Sox fan. Uh Tony the Handsome. Nope. I uh this was a funeral episode for the Astros. Can’t you read Can’t you read the title? That’s fine. No big deal. Why else are the Astros sitting at home this postseason? They lost the tiebreakers. They were two-4 against the Red Sox. Maybe they missed Alex Bregman. They were two and four against the Guardians. They were two and four against the Tigers. They just needed to have a tiebreaker with one of those three teams. But hey, they’re playoff teams. Whatever. You’re not going to win every single series. They they won some series they probably shouldn’t have won. They got the sweep against the Los Angeles Dodgers. But this is really where the Astros season ended. Did you know the Astros were five and eight against the A’s this year? It’s one thing to be 5-8 against the Mariners, 5-8 against the homeless A’s. 76 and 86 overall. They were three and4 against the Rays, a fourth place team who finished 77 and 85 that were playing most of their games in the second half of the year on the road. When they did play, they played in that Mickey Mouse bar ballpark where the Astros looked like the minor league teams that normally play there. They were 0 and3 against the 500 San Francisco Giants. They got swept by him. Giants fired their manager Bob Melvin and sounds like they’re going to go after Bruce Bochi. They were one and two against the St. Louis Cardinals. I think the Cardinals are thinking about canning their manager. I don’t know if that’s happened yet. But really, worst of all, as my cat comes to hang out for a little bit, the Astros were three and three against the Chicago White Socks and they actually lost two times to the Rockies. You had to win one of those five games to give yourself a playoff birth. Just one of those five losses against a Rockies team that lost 119 games. You lost twice to them. Or one of those three that you lost to the White Socks who had 102 losses. That’s where they lost it. That’s where the season ended, baby. right there. Ari, do you have any thoughts on life in general? Are you going to miss me these next five days? Or do you just want to get the [ __ ] out of here because you like to be able to walk throughout the house without closed doors? Wave to the camera. Wave to the camera. Wave to everybody. No, you have to look. You have to look while you wave. I’ll let you go if you look. I’ll let you go if you look. Look. Please. Please look. There you go. Bye everybody. Goodbye. Goodbye. Bye. Anyway, you shot yourself in the foot with a 5-8 record against the A’s, three and four record against the Rays, 0 and3 record against the Giants, one-2 record against the Cardinals, 500 record against the White Socks, and losing twice to the Rockies. Like, you just had to win a couple of those games. And we’re talking at the very least about a wildcard round appearance, if not more. So there you go everybody. That’s the way the cookie crumbles. Is the Astros window still open? I’m not 100% sure. Taking a look at their contract situation. Pot track. You see, Framber is a free agent. Lance McCuller is one more year of $17.7 million. God, what a [ __ ] bad contract. Christian Javier’s contract starts to kick in. He was earning 10 million this past season. 21.4 million the next two years. Woof. Hunter Brown’s in his first year of arbitration, so he’s going to get some sort of raise. He was making 870,000 this year. So that will that will complicate the situation a little bit more. Um you might notice for relief pitcher no more Raphael Montero going forward. You got three more years 19 million a year for Josh her Brian Abbr who’s in the third year of arbitration. I imagine he will get more than $3.45 four or five million dollars this off seasonason, but he actually helped the Astros out with how much he struggled in that closer role. Victor Keratini is a free agent. Dana Brown said the Astros do intend to bring him back. Yeah, they should. They should. There there’s his contract right there. $6 million last year. I I would ask for a raise from him. Keratini, he played well. At times he seems more reliable than Vandra Diaz, who swings at everything. Christian Walker’s contract at age 34, 20 million for each of the next two years in an infield that’s probably too crowded because where does Esach Pedes play? Is Esak Petta going to play first base? Is he going to play second base? Because Carlos Korea is your third baseman now and Jeremy Pñena is your shortstop. By the way, Kareah’s contract the next four years 21 million, 21 and a half million, 20 and a half million, 20 million, and then 25 million. Yesesh, it’s a lot of money. Jose Aluve’s contract coming off of the worst OPS year of his career since he was 23. 33 million next year and the year afterwards, 13 million for 2028 and 2029. He’s listed as an outfielder now, too, on Sprack. You’re hoping Cam Smith improves during the off season. You’re hoping the team is healthier. You’re hoping that some other random pitcher develops. You’re hoping to see more of Zack Cole this coming season. And maybe Zack Denzo again, who when he played from time to time actually looked pretty good. But whatever the case, all we can do for the foreseeable future is speculate about what’s next for the Astros. And all I am asking for is for them to one get rid of their training and medical staff and two for them to get rid of their hitting coaches, Alex Cronone and Troy Snedker. It’s time to shake some things up. So there you go everybody. I don’t believe the window is closed. I don’t know if I would still say that they are built for this, but when it comes to our beloved Houston Astros, we know this about them. They’re going to try. They’re going to spend perhaps on the wrong things. And in that god-awful American League West, there is a very good chance that at the very least they’re playing for a playoff spot at the end of the year, if not bouncing back alto together to where they normally are.
