Red Sox vs. Yankees AL Wild Card Game 1 Highlights (9/30/25) | MLB Highlights
On this the final day of September, everything about the scene here in the Bronx screams October. The Yankees finished the regular season with a flourish, but fell short of a division title. As a result, they are reunited with their rivals from Boston. The Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet was brought on board for games like this. And tonight, he faces baseball’s most dangerous hitter, Aaron Judge, who gets another chance to prove he can perform in the postseason. It’s game one of the wildard series. It’s the beast crochet against the monster Aaron Judge. That’s the headline. And the monster this season, yes, he hit over 50 home runs. And yes, he hit over 330. His 2025 regular season closes leading baseball in batting average, intentional walks on base, slugging, ops, weighted runs created plus and fan graphs war. Meantime on the mound, David Co. 19 wins for Max Freed. Yeah, Max Freed also has a postseason history of his own and looking to kind of start his Yankee career off on a good note. This will be his 13th career postseason start. He was everything the Yankees needed this year. A low walk rate, an above average K rate, but just managed the game and almost pitched 200 innings. That’s the key, staying healthy the whole year. And we are ready for pitch number one from Freed. And Russider beats a two hopper to Vulpi who throws a good one. A strike and one pitch, one out. Trevor Story now. Swinging a miss. That off speed pitching again. Swinging a miss. Strikes him out. Two down here. The first the 32-year-old shortstop of the Red Sox goes back to the dugout. And now Alex Bregman been a little under the weather the last couple of days. Bregman of course still getting booed from 2017. That’ll follow him. And that one is through into right field. The hole was open as Rosario was playing up the middle and Alex Bregman a thorn in the side is on with the first hit of the night. And this is Alex’s 100th career playoff game tonight. Going on hit down to third. Cabierro field takes his time. Throws over in time and that will get him done here in the first. No runs, a hit, no errors in the man left. Garrett Crochet on the mound at Yankee Stadium as we go to the bottom of the first inning. Scoreless. O’Shea has been awesome in four starts against the Yankees. This year he’ll see Gold Schmidt, Judge, and Bellinger, three guys who have had a little success against him after just a brilliant debut season with the Red Sox is on the mound. That ball’s laced into left field. Dolman all over a sweeper that was up and he has the Yankees first hit. Leadoff man aboard sets the table for Aaron Judge. 13 plate appearances against Procha. 10 strikeouts, two homers. Here’s a line drive past the diving third baseman breakman in the left field. Face hit jumping on the first offering. Here come the Yankee. Both Goldmith and Judge had exit velocities off their bat at 100 m an hour plus. And here is Bellinger and he’s gone. He chased a four seamer at 99 and a strikeout for Crochet of Bellinger. Nicely done for Crochet. John Carlos Stanton is a different hitter in October. He’s better whether it’s a question of being more focused saving yourself but he performs in a big way when it comes to the postseason 22 is swung on the ground it should be two story is second for one so the first double play Garrett Crochet gets out of a huge jam in the first we’re here we’re in the second Yankees threaten and Stanton hits into a double play Carlos Narvas traded from the Yankees New nasty change up. He’s gone. Strike out number two for Max Freed. Here’s the one hit. Swing on hit up the middle. Charging his Vulpi. Throws. Got it. Little squibber off the end of the bat. Max Freed, a nice tidy one, two, three second. Gish looking for his first career hit against Proche. One and two. Gisham pitches. Swung on and miss. He got him. It should be pork on sail today. That was an awesome two seamer. And they’re two away. There’s Vulpi 212 average 19 homers for Vulpi. He approach kicks and deals pit swing line and hit to right field. Hit pretty well backing up eaten. Eaten and that is gone. Anthony Vulpi turns back to look at his teammates in the dugout. He’s hit a home run to give the Yankees a one- nothing lead with two outs here in the second inning. They got a fast ball up and away and let it ride. And these are the kinds of things, the kinds of the reasons that you don’t give up on a kid that’s 23 years old because he’s in a bad stretch. He just hit a home run in the offensive field off of Garrett Crochet. Here comes Nick Sogard. He’s the ninth hitter for the Red Sox. Swings and drives one into left field. That’s a base hit. It might be two. Bellinger to his right. Soggard’s going to think about it and hold up as the throw comes in to second. Good call. But how about Sogard? A one out knock. This ball to center field. Gisham now going back a little more aggressively shy in the track and Sogard heads to second base on a tag and dives in safely. Good base running by Nick Sogard on the fly ball the center. He advances to second. 02 pitch here to Trevor Story. Runner at second picks. He deals a pitch. Swing and a miss. He went back to that offspe pitch. That was a beauty. Jose Caviierro going to lead it off here. Bottom three here for the Yankees. A one- nothing lead. Game one of this wild card series against Garrett Crocher and the Boston Red Sox. Got him there to chase 98. Crochet third strike out. Goldmanick got it started in the first with a single and he is gone. A cutter in the dirt that Narvay will throw to first. Judge will come up with the bases empty. These two have had some classic classic clashes. Judge has two homers. He’s got the 10 strikeouts. 48 pitches. Not ideal. of the 3-1 high fly into left center field. It was off the end of the bat though. Sedon and Duran come together. Jiren is there to make the play and the inning is over. One- nothing Yankees. Top of fourth. Here’s Alex Bregman leading off. He is gone. A change up. Max Freed gets Bregman. Strike out number four for Freed. He is on his game tonight, folks. Just missed right at the top and on the corner, but Freed issues the walk to Narvas. was close. That could have been called. It might have got the corner, but he’ll take it. And that one is a blooper. That is fair. Narvay will go to third. Eaton to second. Judge has it. Throws it back in. Second and third on an excuse me double from Nate. 16.3 mph off the bat. He barreled it. Was able to get the hands in and strong enough to get it over Paul Goldmitt’s reach. Left on left. Now it’s Jiren Durant, the left fielder. 0 for 11 lifetime against Max Freed. 3-2 to Duran with a miss. Max pumps his fist as he comes to the first base dugout. He gets out of his first jam in the Yankee postseason game. Crochet gets Cody and here comes John Carlos Stanton. Now Stanton grounded into that double play in the first. Gone there as Crochet got him with a 91 mph cutter. Strike gun number five for Crochet. Two-2 grounder to short. Story charges in. Plays the second hop as always on the move. First to first in time inning over. Nice job by Crochet. To the fifth inning we go. One- nothing Yankees. Two out walk. And that’ll bring up Trevor Story. He rolls one into the hole. Vulpi. He’s got no play. He went into the Jeter leap throw. He had no play. And here we go. First and second, two down on an infield single. a nightmarish figure in the recent history of Yankees postseasons. Alex Bregman. And here he is with first and second. A single and a strikeout. His first two plate appearances. Bregman swinging a bouncing ball charging by Caviar to third base. Grabs, throws, got him. Cab attacked it and completed the play. And Max Freed dodges out of two trouble again. We go bottom five here at the stadium. There’s Gish struck out his first time. Crochet is cade four. That’s called strike three. See it. Crochet has got his six punch out. There’s one away. Here’s Anthony Vulpi who’s produced the game’s only run. Locked up there and Vulpi is gone. A strike out for Crochet. Seven tonight for Crochet. And he’s skate three of the last four batters. Two down here in the fifth. Now the catcher. Wells and a fast ball. Strike three call. Fast ball. Top of the zone. Hitting over Crochet. Getting stronger as we go. He strikes out the side. Eight on the evening. Gonzalez leads off against Max here in the six. One- nothing Yankees. Yep. He got him. Max Freed. Max Freed’s sixth strike out. Now Narvz. Narvz quick with the path again. He fired it down as if he was calling ball for backto back walks for Narvz. That is walk number three for Max Freed. A one out base runner for the Socks. Swing on hit up the middle. Lazario’s right there. Stepping the bag. throw over time. Got him. Double play. A one hop bullet that Rosario turned into a twin killing. And Max Freed’s out of trouble again in the sixth inning. A big inning here for Garrett. Yo, n0 hitter. It’ll be the third time now you face Goldman, Judge Bellinger. You know, you could possibly be getting into this Yankee bullpen in the seventh. You certainly would love to get into it. Only down one- nothing. Swings and sends one to center. That sends Raphaela back. He stops on the track. Just missed it. Did Jose Cabayro exhale and there’s one away. And again, that third time through for Crochet against these big hitters. Here’s Goldid who singled his first time. Goldmid hits one to left. Durant quickly over in the corner and he’s there to make a running catch. And with that, here comes Judge. The matchup that in so many ways has kind of defined this season. Crochet and judge. It’s this wild cocktail of emotions when Crochet faces Judge because on the one hand you love the power on power, the mono ammono. And even as Crochet has overpowered Judge all year, it’s right around the corner at all times, including the two homers against him this season. 3-2 swing of the miss. He got him. Cutter on the outside corner. Nine strikeouts for Crochet, who by the way after the homer, has retired 14 Yankees in a row. Yankees and Red Sox in a terrific game. One- nothing, seventh inning. Freed stays on the mound to get the left-handed hitting Jiren Duran. And this one off the end of the bat. Here’s a foot race between Freed and Duran. What a job by Goldmitt to get rid of the ball so fast. He allowed Freed to catch it in motion and step on the bag. And there’ll be a great ovation for Max Freed. Not a bad postseason debut for Max Freed. There have been feast or famine in the postseason and he was dining right tonight. It’s been a bullpen that at times has been dominant and at other times disastrous. Luke Weaver against Raphaela. S is doing a good job of covering everything right now. Fouling off tough pitches. He’s seen everything. It is three and two. This be pitch number 10. Weieber takes a deep breath and he lost him. Raphaela will take the walk and the base and you can feel the anxiety rising here at the stadium. Sogard instead sends one up the middle. Raphaela will head to third. Sogard aggressively going into second and he is safe. Second time that we’ve seen Nick Sogard take an extra base. one on a fly ball to center field on a tag up and here on a single to center field. Ref Snider is due to hit in this spot. I know you go left right, but this is a spot where you have to make contact. Maybe you’ll lean on Yoshida to do that. One of their hottest hitters. Weaver throws. Masa swings and rides one into center field. Base hit. Save down. Scores. So guard behind him. Lacho man. Tworun hit and the Red Sox lead it two to one. Alex Cora, we’ve talked about it. He’s such a good manager pushing the right buttons in these big games. He sticks with Soggard. He comes through. He brings in Yosha. He comes through. It’s a new ball game. After a brilliant performance by Max Freed and bullpen has let him down here. All right, Cody Garrick Crochet is back on the mound. Boston bullpen fairly quiet right now. third time he’ll see Bellinger. Well, we know that Crocha can feature some high octane gas and he can go up top and get you right through it and jam you and set up all of his other pitches and he’s got a good sweeper, but the cutter is the pitch tonight that he’s got all the swing and misses on six of them tonight. And here’s a look at three good ones down and in on the inside corner all glove side and the last one back door that gets Aaron Judge chasing. Here comes his 100th pitch. 01 is grounded to third. Bregman’s got it. He will throw across two first in time. A cool century mark for Crochet. No signs of fading at all. After seven, Red Sox two, Yankees one. New pitcher on the mound. And this is Devin Williams. So they’ve gone through Weaver Cruz and now it’s second base. Jazz Chisel. The three 0 is ball four. A fast ball high and Carlos Narvay leads it off with a walk in the eighth. And pitch swung on and skyed left side. Long run for Cababiro and Cababie stays with it. He overran it then came back and made the one hand catch and that belt high. Beautifully done to third baseline in foul territory and a pitch going on. Hit the left field. Bellinger needs a play for him. Right at him to the cap eye catch and here we go. Bottom eight. He’s down to the last six outs here. Garrett Crochet is on. He’s thrown 100 pitches even. He’s only allowed one run, the home run to Anthony Vulpi. And they want him in there to face Gisham Vulpi and Wells. He has retired 16 straight. Two two pitch is swung on and miss. He got him. 99 m anph. Really pitching well. Back up the middle. Story can’t get it. Vulpi is aboard. And most likely this could be Crochet’s last hitter in Wells. Crochet’s 117th pitch. That’s called strike three. And the last pitch Crochet throws tonight is his 11th strike out. And he mars him down in the Bronx. What an outing for the Red Sox ace. What a huge spot. This is the best closer in the game, best RA, best whip, best batting average against for the flamethrower who’s had a renaissance year. Won’t be jumping around at first. throw over. Safe and he forgot. He lost count of how many times he could throw over and now Vulpi is at second. Two two swinging a high fly into right center field. Stay on drifts to his left. He’s over au cuts in front of him. Who caught it? Willard did a total miscommunication. Everybody can exhale. A little overzealous, but I guess all well it ends well. The new pitcher is David Bednar. Bednar’s going to face 91 and two. He’s gone. A 98 mph fast ball. Histo lines one into left field. That’s a base hit. Well, Trevor, he’s aboard with a two out hit. That’ll bring Gregman up. This time he is going outside. The throw down. Short hop. Tag put on. Safe. And the call at second base on the field was safe. And the Yankees will now look in their video room after review. The runner did reach the base before being tagged. The call is confirmed. The runner is safe. New York has one challenge remaining. So run in scoring position. And now we really have got to get Breman here. And Breman down the line. That’s a fair ball off the wall. He’ll head to second. He will be in there with the double and insurance from Trevor Story. It’s 31 Red Sox. Alex Bregman does it again to the Yankees. That’s his moment. That’s why you got a guy in Bregman, right? Playoffs insurance run. That’ll take Betnar out of the game. New pitcher is Tim Hill and he’s going to face Nathaniel Long. Swing on and sent to left center field. Coming on is Gisham. He’s there. It’s a one hand catch shoulder high and that’ll do it. Damage done by Bregman. picks up an insurance run for the Red Sox. They go top, make that bottom of the ninth. Yankees in trouble. It’s 3-1. Dominant closer back in New York facing the top of the Yankee order. Gold Schmidt, Judge, and Bellingers. Strength on strength. Chapman got final out of the eighth from Cabierro. Fly to right. Here we go. From Chapman swing on a little slice and drive into right field. That’s a base hit. And that brings up the captain. And you’re hoping for a big moment. Aaron Judge, batting champion. 50 plus home runs, 53 home runs, 114 RBI’s. Power against power. And Judge hits one hard up the middle. The Yankees in the bottom of the ninth have two men on and nobody out. And a great hitter against lefties. And Cody Bellinger coming up. And this is unfamiliar territory now for Chapman. And a slicing drive left center field. It will get down. Kobe has to hold it third. The bases are loaded here in the bottom of the ninth. Nobody out. Here come the Yankees. Well, he is the guy you want up on the mound with swing and miss stuff, but Chapman facing Stanton. It’s not quite the matchup you were thinking of. Yeah. And nobody up in that Red Sox bullpen. And now it’s Jen Carlos Stanton time. 18 career postseason homers. They need two to tie. Swung on and miss. He got him with a splitter. 92 mph and an enormous first out. Mount Jazz Chisel Looped into shallow right field. A Bru’s got it. He races under. He makes the play. Goldmith will not tag at third. The throw comes way up the line anyway and an enormous second out for Chapman. So back to the first inning. Gold and Judge each got a hit and then a strike out and a double play. They each got a hit to start the ninth. They loaded them up and now backto back outs. And now the last hope for the Yankees. A man who’s had so many big swings for them this year. Trent Gisham Chapman is ready. He throws ball slung out and miss. He got him. Chapman leaves the bases loaded and the Red Sox win game one three to one in the Bronx. And an dramatic yet thrilling save for Chapman.

Ive been saying it for the past nine years.with boone as a manager the Yankees will never… again never ever ever ever win a world series.he is not a playoff manager he doesn't know how to manage a lineup or manage a bullpen and doesn't coach from the gut.having 2 big bats sitting in the dugout and pulling his ace in the 7th with 1out nobody on while pitching a shut out is just crazy.not even a dad volunteering to coach a little league team would do that.
WHAT a game
Watching the last inning made me realize why today’s baseball focuses so much on home runs. Three singles in a row, yet no runs.
I wonder why he pulled Freid
Anyways good to see the yanks go down
12:30…
Priceless…😂
Go Sox!!
🫵😎👌
I don’t know nothing about baseball nor do I care but I’m so happy the Yankees lost. Just can’t stand the team. I live in the Bronx and all they do is cause traffic during game days blocking all the various roads leading to that side . As an uber/lyft driver even though it’s great for business it’s just a headache navigating through that area with these rich privileged white ppl walking around . Hopefully Boston ends it quick . See you next spring bozos 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
WHY wouldnt idiot Boone not pinch run Goldsmitch w a faster runner?
Go RedSox!
I've never seen a bigger bunch of useless cocky w*nkers as this Yankees team,…. and that is something!
Can someone explain how in bottom of 8th when Chapman threw back to first base when volpe was on why did he get to advance to 2nd base when he made it back to the first base bag?
11:47 まーたジャッジの怠慢守備だよ
When you have a bull pen like the Yankees have, you leave Fried on the mound. I’ve said it all year, the Yankee bullpen stinks. The Bronx boys better get it together!
El mejor salvamento de chapman
BOSTON 🤮
No better player than Chapman when he’s sweating
