THE HERD | Colin Cowherd STUNS, Dallas Cowboys Were RIGHT To Trade Micah Parsons | NFL

talked about the Cowboys. I follow this less last year than any year, but I thought the Michael Parsons move made a lot of sense. And and let me explain this. Um there’s three things you need to be a great team. A great head coach, a great quarterback, and to me, a great left tackle. The Rams had to rebuild with Andrew Witworth retired. They were fine without Von Miller. They even made it fine without Aaron Donald, although he was great. I would have moved Micah Parsons, too. Edge rushers do not equal Super Bowls. Let me list the highest paid edge rushers in the NFL currently. Micah, TJ Watt, Miles Garrett, Denil, Max Crosby, Josh Hines Allen, Brian Burns. Lot of guys that don’t even sniff the playoffs. Yeah, Nick Bos has got some, but um yeah, so did everybody on those NerS. The overreaction is crazy. what you really want. I have always argued that an edge rusher is the second most important defensive lineman. He’s not even the most important defensive lineman. The most important defensive lineman is the interior defensive lineman because a it’s a very rare body type. 6’1, 330 with great feet. There are edge rushers all over this league. Everybody’s got every second team’s got a great one. How many great interior defensive linemen are there? Chris Jones, Jaylen Carter, not many. Reggie White, Aaron Donald, you can name them because there’s been so few body types. The second thing is all quarterbacks hate pressure at their feet. Tom Brady never minded pressure on the outside, he’d step up. He hated pressure around his feet. So did Pton Manning. So does Mahomes. So to me, when is Mahomes been blown out in the Super Bowl? when he doesn’t have a good left tackle. He’s won Super Bowls without great receivers. He’s run Super Bowls without great defenses, but when he’s had bad left tackles, Patrick Mahomes, our most skept, right? So, to me, move him and and you know, you’re paying Dak a lot. So, you got to give Dak protection. They’re trying to rebuild their own line. You got to give him a weapon, CD Lamb. But I think Jerry Jones said it this week and we noticed in the Cowboys Green Bay game. I think Micah was great for Green Bay because they don’t do well in free agency. It’s kind of a boring town. Stars don’t are not interested. And they’ve drafted and developed so well they don’t need a first round pick for a year or two. And they’re also Green Bay is a team because of their offensive greatness and efficiency. They’re going to lead a lot of games with four minutes to go. They need a bullpen. They need Okay, listen. takes like this really drive me crazy. And comments like Jerry Jones, what he’s saying drives me crazy because first off, it’s just blatant disrespect, honestly. And Colin does this a lot with the lists. Look at all these top play, you know, top and it’ll always be random specific positions. This time it was, you know, defensive players. Before it was wide receivers and quarterbacks. And he’s like, “Look, none of them win Super Bowls. It’s every single position, okay? It’s it’s every single position. The the the top wide receivers, highest paid wide receivers, no Super Bowls. Uh top highest defensive ends, no Super Bowls. Top highest quarterbacks, no Super Bowls. It’s like that every every single position group. The highest paid running backs, no Super Bowls. So, we we we can make that argument all the time. We can make that argument all the time. And I’m not even here to try to figure out was it the right move for Jerry to trade Micah. It’s over. It happened. We’re we’re we’re entering October now. We’ve already played four games. We’re on we’re on to week five. I I I don’t care anymore. I mean, I I I really don’t. And I don’t I don’t know how much Dallas Cowboys fans even care about. You You let me know. I I really don’t I I really don’t know. Before I get too much further into it, please do not forget to subscribe and watch the full length of this video as it is the best possible way to support the growth of this channel. I am on a mission to make to build something that is firmly rooted in the sports talk world. I am trying to change the discussion. It is we, not me. Um, but you know, I mean, of course, Dak is going to be more important to a team. He’s the quarterback. He’s He’s the quarterback. So, I I just Conversations like this to me just get so sloppy. Would the Cowboys have had a better defense right now if Micah was on the field? The answer is yes. And in a game where they just scored 40, which was great, and Dak played great, how has the Dallas Cowboys defense been right now? Not so great. And I’m not going to tell you that, oh, if you have Michael on the field, like now you’re holding teams to 15, you know, to to 14 points or whatever. Like, I’m I’m not saying that either. But if we’re saying that Micah can’t even make this defense better, well then then I I I don’t really know what to say, honestly. Then how do you how do you want to build teams? How do you want to be great? How do you want to be special right now? And you talk about Dak being indispensable and this offense and this team, etc., etc. Now you’re getting draft picks. Guys, Dak is at the tail end of his career. It’s just a it’s just a basic age thing right here. Now, you are in a win now mode, not hey, we’re going to draft and develop some players right now. because then those new draft picks that you have over these next I mean it’ll take like three years, four years for those draft picks to really become what you hope them to become and Dak Prescott’s going to be in his late 30s knocking on the door of 40. I I I don’t I don’t know what you know I could if Dak was 26 or something then I could understand then I I I could you know it would make a lot more sense but you’re in a win now mode here now if you use those draft picks for other big players but then like what other play what players are you getting and how much money do those players cost now then? So that that’s where I’m trying to figure this all out when this all first happened. I’m trying to figure out the timeline because again for those draft picks to come to fruition if you just draft them and develop them and again who knows where even in the where they’re actually going to be in terms of the order of you know 1 through 32. You you really are if you if we combine both those picks, you’re you’re looking at four years conservatively of those now picks of really being really helping you put put this team in a position to truly make a huge impact to really make an impact that you’re like we can we can trust in this guy especially with some of the positions that you’re going to be draft. You’re not going to draft like a wide receiver. You’re not going to draft a running back. you know, positions that you can kind of get a a little bit more juice out of them early on in their careers, especially like a running back or something. Um, but even alignment, you know, a lot of these players, um, it it’ll it’ll take a year or two to like feel like, okay, this is a player we can trust, but you know, what whatever position it really is. So, again, you’re looking at three, four years that’s pushing Dak back now. I just that was always my my question mark about it all. and teams that are looking to win right now, who are like, “We’re trying to win right now.” Look at the decisions that they made. Like Colin is saying, “Oh, Von Miller was indispensable.” Yet they made a mid-season trade to get him that then directly led to a Super Bowl. And then they needed to now rebuild that defense. They needed to draft and develop. And then it took them years to kind of rebuild something up that now felt like, hey, they could win. And now Matthew Stafford is on the brink of retirement. So actually using the Rams as an example is pretty perfect. They needed all those pieces in the peak to be able to finally win that, you know, to to win that Super Bowl. That’s why they went out again and got Bon Millers and that’s why they made that’s why they went out and got OBJ. They they they made those decisions when the Eagles needed to to to win now and boost up everything. They went out and got AJ Brown. They went out and got Saquon Barkley. They’re not like, “Well, let’s just get some more draft picks and we’ll draft and develop.” It’s like, “No, we don’t got time for that right now. We We got these players right now. We got some big pieces that we need to utilize right now. Lane Johnson, Jason Kelce, etc., etc., you know, some some important pieces. Not necessarily just, you know, because obviously Jaylen is younger, but just the the the the rest of the of the roster at that point. And that’s what that’s what it comes down to in a lot in a lot of ways. So if you’re trying to win right now, which you should be, considering Dak’s age as you’re telling me that he’s indispensable, he’s the most important part of your team, well then you need to build around Dak’s timeline. So that that’s just all I keep trying to figure out with regards to the Dallas Cowboys and and what they’re looking to do right now because you just don’t want to get in this weird situation where like hey we you know hey we built a really great team right now but like uh Dak is starting to show his age a little bit and we can never really predict when someone’s going to show their age and I know he’s playing great right now which is awesome to see but like we we know age comes and gets you man we we know that. So yeah, you you you would have liked the Dallas Cowboys to figure out a way as this offense is great. You make the move for Pickkins and whatnot. You have CD Lamb. Like you would have liked them to be aggressive this off seasonason and say we’re we’re boosting everything up right now. Yeah, we’re keeping Micah. Yeah, we’re getting so and so. Yeah, we’re making a play for Devonte. We want Piggins, CD, and Devonte Adams. Like we are we are flushed right now. We are flushed. like you you you would want to see them take big swings. Trading Micah is like a is it’s not a big swing. It’s just it’s it’s a bet on the future is really what it is. You’re you’re you’re you’re kind of hedging. And it’s like that’s not where you’re at right now. That’s that’s you’re you’re you’re not trying to build wealth 20 years from now. You’re you’re you’re trying to go for broke right now. So that’s that’s the balance. That’s that’s the lens that I look at it through. But uh I I still think it’s kind of crazy that we’re still talking about this right now. And Jerry Jones just keeps kind of just going and going and go. He’s he’s still trying to rationalize it and it’s just like I just bizarre. Just move on. Those are just my thoughts. I’d absolutely love to hear yours. What do you guys all think about the Dallas Cowboys? Did they make the right move trading Parsons? Um, and does it even matter right now at this point? 1. Four 1st round draft picks over the next 2 years give flexibility to fill out a defense, get a new QB, or established vets. If they resigned parsons the they would be stuck with that team.

  2. Colin is absolutely right. It’s easy to regurgitate the national media narrative. Colin is saying what most of us Cowboys fans believe after Micah has made no significant difference on our defense for 2 years now. Always disappearing in big games just like he did Sunday night. By the way, He was on Green Bay’s defense that just gave up 40. I would take Kenny Clark over Micah anyday.

  3. So the argument is to not have the top player. That D wouldn't be saved by Micah. He is incredible but that that D has generational holes. Nothing could save that poop fest.

  4. You can definitely correlate paid positions and Superbowls. Highest paid qb's definitely has Superbowls, highest paid LT's definitely has Superbowls, highest paid DT definitely has Superbowls.

  5. Cowboys defense has performed badly through 4 games. This is because they are missing pieces (Bland and Overshown) and their pass rush is hoping for aged veterans to turn back the clock in Fowler and Clowney and the kids Diggy and Rocky to jump off. Diggs has regressed and Hooker and wilson look like they can no longer play pro ball. Bland is hurt. Paying micah all that money would have cost dallas Bland and Tyler Smith. The trade was necessary to keep the team from being even more Top heavy than I've been complaining the last two years. They are probably not as bad as they have performed if they can get overshown and bland healthy.

It feels like dallas is gonna be the first .500 team in the 17 game era.

  6. The trade was the best bet for the cowboys dude is great but we ain’t winning a ring with Parsons you guys know that. It was time for a change and talking about Dak we ain’t winning with him either. We need to start over and focus a little more on defense and get a rookie quarterback and build with him like when we got Dak ….

  7. You don’t know ball. The fact is. It’s the truth. There’s better d ends than micah. He can’t stop the run. And dak showed you he’s not really that effective in the passing game against elite qbs

  8. Colin’s take makes absolutely 💯 sense. And I’m not really a Fan of Colin’s. However, this past game proved somewhat of a point. Micah is the highest paid defender, however he was a non factor in the game. He was a non factor in the playoff game against the Packers when he played for Dallas. The last 3 Super Bowl Champs all had All Pro DT’s!! Not Edge Rushers!!
