Aaron Glenn Press Conference (9/30) | New York Jets

Good morning. Um, when it comes to injuries, um, we still evaluating, uh, the two guys that got injured in the game yesterday, Brilen and Michael Carter. And for some of the injuries that, um, that happened, uh, before that during the week of guys getting back, uh, still trying to get an update on that. and I know something about that pretty soon. Uh when it comes to the game uh yesterday, uh nothing changes from the way that I think. Uh disappointed um in the way that we played, but man, there are some encouraging things that happened in that game. Um if you told me that we would rush for almost 200 yards on offense, if you told me that uh Justin Fields um would pass for almost 230 yards at 70ome percent, um I would have told you that we won that game. All right? But we didn’t. We didn’t. And there’s a number of reasons why we didn’t win that game. And to me, I want to focus on the how more than the why. And there are some things that we know that we have to do uh to clean those things up. And one and most important is the turnovers. Like we cannot turn over the ball and expect to win those games. And those are things that we have to fix. And and there’s a number of ways we can fix those things. And the one thing we have to do defensively is we have to continue to emphasize taking the ball away. We have to continue to um in practice every time the ball’s in the air, we have to attack the ball. Every time the runner has the ball, we have to go for the punch out while still trying to make the tackle. Um offensively, our scout team has to like punch the ball out of our guys all the time. Um and we have to continue to get better at that. But we clean those things up. Um listen I think uh I think you know we’ll be happy about the direction that we’re going. So again there are a number of things we can look at when it comes to reason we lost but that’s the thing for the most point uh when you look at it is the key that we we lost that game. So, um, any questions? After the game, uh, Sauce had mentioned, you know, that the officials played a role in it, too, that there were some calls that he thought were kind of shaky. When you look back at it, were there some calls you think, you know, you might want to bring up to the league? Yeah, that that’s every week. Um, when you really think about it, there’s always calls that we look at that we want to bring to the league and get clarification on um why is it wasn’t called um what what are the refs looking at and but here’s what I do know, man. You have to earn the right to get a lot of these calls, you know, for the most part. And and um and we just have to continue playing. Um there’s a number of calls in that game I felt that didn’t go our way that I felt we should have gotten. And you know, I could easily go through those, but I’m not. Um, but I do know this that we had a we had a good amount of of penalties on our end um that we have to clean up. And again, man, we’re talking about a team that had two years of leading the league in penalties. Um, and we’re still trying to clean those things up, you know, as we go. So, but I don’t want to put it all on that. Um, I just want to talk about that in house and make sure we do everything we can to clean those up. as a coach, how do you balance that? You know, like because clearly there’s some frustration, right? You want these guys like why are you making that mistake? But how but you like you mentioned like two years Yeah. in a row that these guys How do you balance that? Well, it it goes back to what I said, you know, it’s it’s sometimes you got to stop asking why and start talking about how and start having solutions for some of those things. I don’t want to put those solutions out, you know, cuz I want to keep those solutions in house between our guys and I know exactly what we’re going to do to try to help on some of those things. Um, and I think it’s going to be very beneficial for us moving forward uh when it comes to that. So, um, but listen, every day we got to continue to work on those things. I’m talking about the pre-nap penalties and the postnap penalties. And listen, Saul said his his his piece and and and listen, I’m not going to question what he has to say about that. But I do know this, man, we have to put oursel in position to start getting those calls. And yes, there’s the number of calls that we’re going to send to the league, but we always do just to make sure we get clarification. You mentioned you wanted to see the film of Justin. Now you’ve seen what what did you think in his first game back? I thought he played pretty well. um just just I mean getting a chance to watch it and I watched it a couple of times last night. Um I think he I think he spun the ball real as far as getting the ball to the receivers. Um we had like nine explosive plays within that game which we look to get about eight every game and he was a huge part of that um with his arm and with his legs. Um, and man, we want to build off that cuz now when you look at the three games that he’s played in, man, he had he he’s played had two games where he was really really solid. Um, and we want to build on those things. So, um, I’m encouraged by that. I I really am. I’m encouraged by our run game. Um, I thought that went really well. Um, I thought Bree did a hell of a job of toting the pill. Um, another thing that we talked about early in the week is getting Mason involved and I thought uh Justin did a really good job of getting Mason involved in the passing game also. So, those were some things that we continue to build on. Aaron, how did you feel uh about the way the defense played and especially the the things you stressed last week about tackling? Yeah, I think that’s an ongoing process when it comes to tackling, but when you take a look at defensively, man, they will put in some some bad spots and you can’t put your defense in those those spots when it comes to the turnovers. But, um, still, we have, the name of defense is limiting points. And the thing that we have to be able to do is limit points. And when they do get those turnover, they get them in in our territory, man, we got to force them to kick field goals and not give them touchdowns. And I think we gave them touchdowns in those situations. So, um, listen, I know it’s tough, you know, for a defense to be put in that situation, but, you know, we have to live for those moments and, you know, continue to working on things we got to work on to get better in those situations. And their their line do so well that like kept you guys from really getting to him? Yeah. Yeah. Are you asking me that? Yeah. What did they do? You know what? He he does a really good job and you see this all over the tape, so it’s nothing new. I mean, he does a really good job of getting the ball out of his hands and throwing on rhythm. Um, and the one thing you have to try to do as much as possible is get him off a rhythm, make him, you know, hitch and be able to try to look around for his second and third option. Um, and we did that on a on a number of occasions. The fact of the matter is, man, we have to finish the play. I think we had him in our grasp a couple of times um when he did um hitch the ball. Thing is, we have to finish those plays. Aaron, Isaiah Williams, two pretty critical mistakes last night. Would you consider making the change at returner or or is his job safe right now? You know what? I don’t want to get into that. You know, right now the thing is we brought him in to be our returner. Um listen, he made two critical mistakes and I understand that. Um but there also mistakes where he have to learn from, you know. So, um I’m not going to sit here and say that that, you know, he’s going to lose his job over that. Listen, he has to get better. I do know that. and those things can’t happen again. Um, but we’re gonna continue to look at that and try to teach them and and get them focused on doing the right things for us. Okay, a couple more. Are you hopeful that you’ll have Germaine back this week? Say it again. Are you hopeful that you’ll have Germaine Johnson back this week? Absolutely. With a number of our other guys. Um, I mean, Germaine Johnson is a key cog to what we try to do on defense. So, if he can get back, we can get Kane back. Um, obviously try to get Brownley back going and see uh see where he’s at. Man, we um we look forward to getting all those guys back. Aaron, on on a positive note with Fulk, um is that impressive to see him kick that that field? I mean, 40-year-old guy like that. Yeah, very impressive. Um but I tell you what, before the game, uh he said that he he felt like he had, you know, that type of range um in his repertoire for that game. So, I mean, it’s good to see him feel like that and be able to make that kick. I think it was like 58 yards. So, um, and I think he actually roommed, you know, for maybe a 61, 62 yard. So, it was good to see that from him. Do you I know Aaron, you said you don’t have the full injury information yet? Any indication? Is is Brayen Allen is that a serious injury? Like, are you evaluating? Do you know? I I wish I had an answer for that right now. I I really don’t know how serious it is. I promise you I’ll get that to you, you know, as soon as I get that information. But I’m hopeful. I’m hopeful that is not. Um but we’ll see. And and Michael Carter, is he in the concussion protocol? Uh concussion protocol. Yeah, we’ll see exactly where he’s at. With it being a short week, that’s tough. Last one here. Everybody good? Thank you, coach. All righty. Appreciate it.

  1. Yoll looked lost lets be honest. We cant keep shooting ourselves in the foot. I dont like watching my team because we look J.V.. Justin has to throw the ball more effectively point blank period. His numbers means nothing to us who watched the game. Example he looks scared when he throws compared to a Josh Allen. Josh will throw an interception but hey at least he's throwing. I'm tired of us not having a throwing game. It's making me sick that i cant watch the jets and expect a decent gun slinging QB. We havent had a franchise QB since Broadway Joe for Gods sake. That's insane. These mediocre QBs cant cut it this is the NFL. Sorry but I'm sick of this shit, the defense is pathetic, play calling is trash and penalties are killing is more and more week by week.

  2. As a detroit lions fan, AG, I want to see pre snap pena;ties taken care of. Then I want to see ball security.
Then you can start winning games. We believe in ya! But those fundamentals are killing yall….

  3. l give Aaron all the benefit of the doubtโ€ฆ! people who think itโ€™s easy to build a winning team in your first season as a coach, SPECIALLY the NY Jets , are simply UNREALISTIC AND DELUSIONAL โ€ฆ Cmon people give it some time !!!

  4. From a lions fan, i know how jets fans feel because we were a losing organization in times past .

I see the same trend of what we dealt the first year under dan campbell, which was a huge tear down by lions organization… I see the jets went through secret and huge tear down in the jets organization to rebuild it the right way.

And which it's the right direction.

The second year, the jets are going to be way better under aaron glenn.

In a couple of years, the jets are going to be the new threat and one of the main powerhouses in the afc.

The first three games were close games except buffalo. And it reminds me of our first year under Dan Campbell when our record that year was 3-13-1.

Hang on jets fans, yall are going run the AFC EAST, and it wont be buffalo like they have in past times

Just like green bay ran the nfc north for years, they dont nomore.

  5. AG are you gonna take over the Defensive responsibilities and also in game calls? Wilks is no good and the defense looks lost out there. You do a coach does take charge when things break down and need to be fixed right?

  6. Same old Jets! That was complete garbage. Glenn looking like a one and done. Need an experienced coach to come in and hopefully change things. Canโ€™t let this coaching staff develop the #1 pick that this garbage team will earn.

  7. People need to stop comparing him to Parcells and Campbell. Parcells would be fiery and pissed off, Campbell would be emotional and disappointed. Both of those reactions light a fire under your team.

Aaron Glenn is deflective and over-explanatory. Reads more like Saleh, Ulbricht, and Gase in contrast to the aforementioned leaders.

Jets need to stop putting inexperienced coaches in positions to lead inexperienced teams. The teams feed off of the "excuses", the "we're new" crap. But hey anything to save a buck and keep the expenses down. Fire Woody!!!

  8. The how is your team is undisciplined and the why is, to many turnovers to many penalties. Defense at times looks lost out there, letting receivers run all over the place uncovered. Might be a lack of talent in the secondary or just not enough coaching to emphasize to do your job. Hopefully, coach AG can turn it around, but unfortunately, these are the Jets, so wait and see. But not counting on anything this year, I'm looking forward to 2026

  9. 300s offense, 200s rushing, but defense is our problem? Since when has defense been our problem? I've been a Jets fan my whole life. We never had the best offense but we never had a bad defense, until now. Be a defensive head coach. Wilks need to go?

  10. Well, not all bad. You can't go down. If the Pats can perform and upset with the Bills, and the Dolphins lose to the Panthers in Carolina (yes, it can happen in an away game), and the Jets win against erratic Cowblows at home, it's a positive.

  11. Glenn is giving off a lot of Jerod Mayo/Joe Judge/Antonio Pierce vibes. If he continues anything resembling this current trajectory, he needs to be one and done.

  12. Can the coaches teach Jet KO returners the basics like if running to the left, keep the ball out of the right hand???

Isiah Williams did the same thing Gipson did with the same results.

How do NFL multi millionaires not know what Pop Warners kids know?
