Minnesota Vikings News Dump (10.1.2025) | AVG Out, Tackle Signed, Vikes in London

[Music] What’s going on, Jerome? It’s beautiful Wednesday. Birds are chirping and stuff and it’s time for another Vikings news dump. So, Vikings over in London. A couple of days before official practice starts today. Uh Vikings uh Vikings players, staff, families taking in sights and sounds. They should be studing the playbook, but uh Adam Derome, Ezekiel the watching Chelsea in the Champions League. Whatever. Poor bad choice. Bad choice of Premier League teams. Liverpool, Liverpool, even though Liverpool lost in freaking Turkey yesterday in Champions League. Yeah. Uh, also Christian Darasaw checking out Big Ben. So, the the most physically imposing and impressive thing in London and also Big Ben. All right. So, Christian Darus up. Please Christian Darus up. Please stay healthy as well as please. Glory to everyone. Please take care of Miles Garrett one time. And here’s what’s frustrating too, right? Darasaw hasn’t played a full season and won’t play a full season this year. Even if he plays every single game, obviously missed the first two. When he’s healthy, he’s the best left tackle in the game, right? And obviously a little biased, but just the effect that he has on the offense, the protection, the not having to tie up a tight end, helping chip on that side, just being a road raider in the run game, the mobility to get things outside. He’s the best. Absolute best, man. So, knocking on all the wood, staying healthy, uh, and good to go. Also, Ivan Pace Jr., uh, checking out the sights and sounds, probably losing guys in coverage. Don’t know. Don’t know. Also, uh, Tyr Tyrion Ingram Dawkins checking things out. Um, I never watched Game of Thrones, but is isn’t there a king named Tyrion? Tyrion Stark, right? John Starks. But yeah, anyways, market rocket walkathon going on right now through October 15th. All VMOS, cash apps donated to the school fundraiser. Now, we got some clarity on what’s going on. So, this is going to be for some lab equipment as well as uh as well as field trips. So, love to see that. Also, they have the tier. So, remember when Margaret won two out of three years for number one uh uh cash submitter, um she got like sticker books, but I guess they’re up things up. So, log into 99 pledges. I know what that means. So, if they get 99 $5 donations, so the goal for the school is 30K. Let’s see if we can take a big chunk out of that. You guys have absolutely been crushing so far. They get a free meal of canes. Awesome. Uh if raise 50 bucks, you get a electron pet on a keychain. So I’m guessing well maybe they can’t officially use the word tamaguchi or is that is that what it’s called? Raise 100 bucks to get a trucker hat. Raise 150 bucks. Silly string a teacher. That’s what Rocco’s really looking forward to. Like his teacher is a very nice nice lady but she’s going down. Also, hey, if you raise 300, do you get to silly string them once officially and then a second time when they least expect it? Just like popping out like Charlie in the jungle. I don’t know. Anyways, that’s what we’re doing. You guys have been awesome. Thank you. Also, something that is the opposite awesome. Aliss athletic Vikings head coach Kevin McConnell said, “Ed rusher Andrew Van Ginkle is not expected to practice this week.” Uh KOC said we’re evaluating every avenue and all options to him to getting him feeling 100% and back out there. Andrew Benko is listed with a neck injury. Also random, did we start calling him KOC? Did that catch on or was that a thing from the beginning? Because I I know at the beginning a lot of people call him KO. Like the players obviously call him KO. And a lot of people didn’t like the KO the notorious KOC because I don’t know. I don’t know. Did we do that? I don’t know. But Van Ginkle, so obviously played eight snaps against the Mangles, got two sacks, sat out against the Steelers. And neck issues are no joke, man. And they want to get this back to good. Could he eventually dip onto short-term IR? It’s a possibility. If it was a possibility, why didn’t they start it last week? Don’t know. But Andrew Vankel, especially since he just got paid, got that contract freshened up. He’s a very important part of this defense, both as edge rusher and offball linebacker. So hopefully he gets back cuz he he is a a pillar of this defense. Also, some decent news on Brian O’Neal. Blah blah blah blah blah Van Ginkle. Uh Andrew Van Ginkle will practice this week. Neither will right tackle Brian O’Neal MCL sprain. No IR for O’Neal for O’Neal though. Also, uh Kevin McConnell called Brian O’Neal week to week. So, we’ll see what happens. Ideally, and this might just be a a pipe dream of mine, maybe a wet dream of O’Neal sitting out against Cleveland, having the bye-week, and then getting ready to go against the Eagles because we need all hands on deck because finally you would have Darasaw, Donovan Jackson off the wrist surgery, Ryan Kelly off the concussion, Will Fry, and then Brian O’Neal back and also you potentially get JJ McCarthy back. So, you get your quarterback one behind the on paper on purpose first team offensive line against the Eagles at home. And by the way, I know the Eagles are undefeated. They they look getable. So, statement win off of the buy. Go into the buy in three and two. Then all of a sudden, you come home and beat the living be Jesus out of the paper champions, Philadelphia Eagles. 4-2. What it do? beat the Chargers five and two taking on the low energy Detroit Lions in their building. Bring it. Bring it, man. That’s how you write the ship. So, they’ll beat the Eagles, they’ll beat the Chargers, they’ll beat the Lions, and then they’ll lose to the the Ravens. It will be terrible. Ayah, but that’s how things work sometimes. Also, some more good news. Kevin Seafford Okonnell also said the team will open the 21-day practice window for fullback CJ Ham and linebacker Tyler Baddy. Front office is considering some players. Duh duh duh duh. So CJ Ham back very important for the run game. Very important for special teams. Great team leader as well. And Baddy feel like Batty could add a little bit of depth uh on the edge as well as with the Dline. Certainly could help fortify things against the run would be good. Also Aklas Vikings head coach Kevin McConnell said his hope is that quarterback Jay J. McCarthy will practice in some fashion this week as we get into Thursday and Friday. I’m hoping we can at least get him out there and get him taking some drops and starting to get back into the normal rhythm. Now, it’ll be good to see. And of course, with high ankle sprains, they’re sort of touchy, right? And you you don’t want to bring McCarthy back until he’s 100%, but getting some work uh with that foot with that ankle and just getting back into the rhythm of things. I think that would be good. And obviously, you know, we’ll still put in work over the by-week. And getting him back to a spot where confident in that foot, 100% mobility, major part of his game does make sense. Uh, and also, you know, Vikings had Kon alluded to making some moves along the offensive line. Enter one Matt W. Let’s go. Uhoh. Let’s go to the practice squad. And they released Tim Jones from the practice squad. Although Tim Jones are probably back because that’s how things work. And well, let’s go. you know, the pride of NDSU. He’s 25 years young. He’s 68 305. Uh former fifth round pick in 2022 by the Cowboys. Now, he’s had a couple of injury issues uh in his own right, which is kind of ironic. Replace bringing a guy in for depth who gets hurt for for a bunch of guys who get hurt as well, right? But also local kid from Cold Spring, Minnesota. We love the feel-good local angle. Also, he kind of looks like Jared Allen. Yeah. Uh, so as of right me now, this is what things look like. Oh, we didn’t even put him on the graphic. The hell, man. Uh, but yeah, just put uh Well, let’s go in there at right tackle. Sure. But you this is in case of emergency break glass situation. And I I I don’t think the Vikings will make a big time splash move because as we said, week seven, everyone could be back, which would be the first time that they’ve taken snaps together, which would be kind of good. Uh, the opposite of good. Well, actually, good news for the Vikings. Uh, the Browns are going to be starting a rookie quarterback against Brian Flores and company. Uh, Matt Matt Zenitz. Yeah. Um, do you remember like the old VCRs and TVs? Zenith 500B TVs. The current belief is that the Browns are going to make a change at quarterback and start rookie Dylan Gabriel this week versus the Vikings. Sources tell CBS. So with with Gabriel, he the knock against Dylan Gabriel is that he doesn’t have an NFL caliber arm. Like doesn’t have a great arm, but he is accurate. He he does uh get rid of the ball quick. Does have some mobility. So, I mean, I I think the Pittsburgh saw what the Steelers did to the Vikings, that quick game that the Vikings didn’t really adjust to, and they’re going to try and do that with Dylan Gabriel and also run the ball, Quinchon Judkins, where, you know, they saw what Gainwell did on Sunday. I think that’s the blueprint of what they’re what exactly they’re going to do. And the Vikings, so if you look uh the Vikings are uh first off, they’re number one in the league in minus uh in EPA expected points added per play. So they’re they’re taking away 0.27 points per play still even after that whatever showing against Pittsburgh. But you’re like 28% cover two, two two high safeties as well as a bunch of shell zone defenses and only 7% of their snaps have been cover one man where if you’re going to beat that quick game, if you’re going to try and stop the run, you do have to bring down that extra safety into the box and get after things in that regard. But I don’t know, like you know, things need to change. Things need to uh adjust to the adjustments, right? and everything’s going to be fine because offenses aren’t stupid. They understand that the Vikings have one of the best pass rushes, if not the best pass rush in the league. And they’re not just going to sit there with a bad offensive line and take five and seven step drops, long developing plays cuz who would do that? Yeah. And the Browns offensive line is in flux right now. They they just traded for Cam Robinson. Uh Jack Conklin, the veteran’s been dinged up. You know, Betonio is older. Ethan Posich. Hey, can we have Ethan Posich? Can we just take him with us on the way back? Yeah. A watt teller is in the mix too. Former uh former JJ McCarthy lineman Zack Zter is there. Kevin Jenkins a former Bear. So they they’re they’re having a lot of issues. I know where the where you know Dylan Gabriel is left-handed. So his right tackle is going to be his blind side protector. But I mean there’s a lot of issues up front. So it could be yum yum time for Flores and the defense. The opposite of yum yum time. Tyler Webb number of penalties commended by every NFL team. The Vikings are second in the league with the most at 37. Only the Jaguars have more. Maybe this is a Grant Newsky thing, right? And also 18 of the Vikings 37 penalties are pre- snap. So just a lot of sloppy, lack of focus, lack of logistics penalties. It’s just no bueno. Also notice that the Steelers have been flagged for the fewest with 19 or top of the morning. So it’s almost like I don’t know. They got a flag for flopping. DK just gets to grab on to uh Dallas Turner’s face mask and talk ish. And if Dallas Turner moves a single muscle, that’s a penalty on him. Good times. Also, number 80 can contact Dalo when he’s still in his stance and snap and get pushed into Brian O’Neal’s knee. Whatever. Also, Jonathan Gard can get held by uh Project Jones every single snap. Other than that, okay. Okay. Okay. Also, the opposite of good, Sam Hoppin. Uh the Eagles offense currently leads the league in three and outs. So the Eagles offense is not very it’s just not fun to watch. You know, yeah, they have the tush push, but Herz is not thrown to Brown and or Devonte Smith and it’s just a tough watch right now. But also don’t look who’s second in the league at three and outs. The Vikings offense. Now there’s a lot of things at play here. Sure, JJ McCarthy first couple starts. Carson Wentz couple issues offensive line definitely Kevin McConnell getting away from the run yes all all those things do factor in but it’s it’s been a tough watch I mean they have more three they have a higher three and out percentage than the Titans and the Bengals gross hopefully that changes hopefully also this offensive line freaking blocks Miles Garrett uh Ian Hardit Vikings line Ryan Kelly concussion Brian Neil knee week to week Jackson wrist IR He’s not on IRA. And then you got Miles Garrett, superhero. Now, Miles Garrett generally rushes about 85% of his snaps from the right side, hand in the dirt. So, it’s going to be him against Darasaw. But, as you’ve seen, like they will move Miles Garrett around. And I think this situation, the Vikings O line behooves them. Like, honestly, put Miles Garrett in the A gap over the center until they prove that you they can stop him, which who knows? Also, so this is a ways away since the Vikings don’t play the Ravens until week 10 and by then Lamar should be back, but uh underdog NFL Lamar Jackson Hamstring unlikely to play week five. Could miss two to three weeks per Brian Wacker. Now the Ravens do have a bye-week uh coming up next week. So it could be a spot where Lamar just gets multiple weeks to rest, but you hamstrings are always tricky, right? And I was told that Lamar was just faking it to get out of the game. Yeah. So, if this is a lower grade hamstring strain, that still definitely impacts his his most the most dangerous part of his game is Lamar Jackson’s mobility. Now, Lamar Jackson obviously has come a long way as a passer, but if you take away his threat of running, that seriously curtails the coverages that he gets on the back end. So, the Vikings don’t have to worry about him running, that’s going to be huge advantage. So that’s some certainly something to monitor coming on up because even if Lamar returns in, you know, three, four weeks, is that hamstring going to be 100% and especially given his the amount of times that he runs and is super dangerous in that regard. Does that put him up for risk of reagravation? Who knows? So there you go. Anyways, that’s it. That’s it. Uh Vikings news dump for this beautiful, glorious Wednesday. Vikings first practice. Well, coming out this morning. Yeah. Uh, you guys are the best you know to do. Skull production value.

  1. My old brain's synapses managed to flicker 5 times, so FWIW here's are thoughts I had during the vid:
    1. Is Taki Taimani still around? The Vikes sure could use him on running downs.🤔
    2. IMHO, on Sunday, Christian Darrisaw looked sore and/or really tired by the 3rd quarter. He still did his job, but he was struggling more than I'm used to seeing. He's probably not quite 100% in game shape (understandable!) but I wonder if his left knee may have gotten extra tired or quite sore as well. Perhaps he & Brian O'Neill split the cost on a pair of state-of-the-art knee braces?👍
    3. Bummed-out re AVG. Jeez, I hope that surgery isn't required to deal with his neck issues (especially as they seem to have become a recurring/chronic problem). 😬
    4. During his weekly chat with Paul Allen, KOC mentioned that treatments for concussions have really progressed, and I did not get the impression that KOC was terribly worried about Kelly's long-term health. I hope that's a positive sign! 🙏
    5 What's the over-under betting line for the Vikes-Browns game?…perhaps 20 total points? 😂

  2. Is there still Cold Spring Beer? I remember in college ( mid '80s) we could get a case for about $4. The joke was if you could get the first three down, you'd be OK.

  3. Good call moving forward Andy on potential W's..I was thinking the same for home Eagles game after the bye!
The schedule has the Vikings playing the Chargers 4 days later😂❤SKOL-CRAZY!🎉

  4. When we were all getting hyped about how stacked the roster was this off season, I couldn’t help but worry about the injury bug lingering…the curse is real

  5. Kwesi stop picking up injury prone players. We need a starting OL player. We are built to win now. Also KOC clean up penalties and call plays to Wentz strength and run the ball with Mason more. 3 and 1 or 4 and 1 run with Mason! Postive note we are 2-2 vs 1-3. I think we can finish 10-7 and make the play offs
