Rockies fire general manager Bill Schmidt after dreadful season

  1. One thing I appreciated about the announcement is they did say they were searching outside the organization for replacement.

  2. >Colorado’s starting pitching, ravaged by injuries, youth and poor performance, finished with a 6.65 ERA, not only the highest in team history, but the highest for any starting staff since ERA became an official stat league-wide in 1913.

  3. The official statement from the Rockies is that he “stepped down,” and 9News is reporting he resigned. Either way, it should have happened at least two years ago.

We’ll see if they actually go outside the organization or if they just hire another lifer schlub.

Hopefully the prevailing thought on Sterling Monfort not wanting the GM job is true, because if that nepo baby moron gets it, you can expect even more 100 loss seasons.

  4. And in comes another hammered dogshit manager. The person that needs to be replaced is dick monfort.

  5. Good riddance. Let’s hire the guy who Jonah hill played in moneyball. Or just hire Jonah hill. Either one won’t be worse than bill Schmidt

  6. cool! change! Thats more than i usually expect!
Now, if its a “substantial change” and not just Dick Monfort’s son, then ill start to think about getting my hopes up

  7. Should have been fired already, no idea how you made it this long besides incompetence.

  8. Sell the team while you are at it. Maybe to the Walton’s so they can get us out of all the bad contracts.

  9. The owners should fire themselves, the product you’re selling is an insult to a great sports town. We deserve better Monfort you greedy sob.

  10. The only real option is for whoever they hire to clean house when they get here. Just given absolute dictatorial control over what happens. You can be an assistant coach or something Charlie but please take off that suit.

  11. Fire the pretzel guy too, because it starts at the bottom. No offense to the pretzel guy.

  12. This should’ve happened months ago and interviews should’ve already been happening

  13. I’m not saying Luhnow will magically walk through those doors but this team needs to find their version of him. Anyone who revitalize the system at all levels of the organization and build a sustainable product.

  14. No apology from ownership on this season. How about following cohen and mets and send out apology. Nope. Monfort doesn’t feel bad at all.

  15. Oh, no way… Please bring in someone who actually cares about winning. About development. About passion. About the fans.

  16. I know a lot of you are concerned they’re just going to hire someone from within for the job, but know that the first two interviews they have set up have no relations at all to ownership. The first two interviews will be with Walker Donfort and Sterling Nonfort. Walker and Sterling both have extensive experience in baseball operations and can take the Rocks to new heights!

  17. Good, but I don’t have faith that they’ll make a better hire. Assuming they don’t hire from within, they still need a massive home run to become contenders. I have feeling that they need someone with a new vision that goes against the status quo. With the way things are now, they need their own Andrew Friedman or Billy Beane to find a niche way to win. Because trying to win conventionally will not get them there, and somehow I don’t have faith in Dick embracing bold thinking.

  18. At least it seems like Walker has some desire to improve the team. That could be a step in the right direction. The fact this took two days and was a “resignation” is just indicative of how Dick does business.
