Aaron Glenn Press Conference (10/1) | New York Jets
How’s everybody doing? Good. Good. How are you? We’re good. I’m doing outstanding. Um, so on the injury front, JJ and Ka, they’ll be dayto-day, right? So, we’re still evaluating that. Um, Michael Carter, he’s going through the protocol, but there’s a good chance he’ll be out, you know, knowing how the game was on a Monday. All right. So, that’s a good chance he’ll be out. When it comes to Brilan, um, he’s getting a second opinion. So, we’re still going through exactly how we’re going to designate that. All right. So, you guys give me a little time with that so we can try to figure that out. Um, but obviously you guys know, you know, pretty serious knee injury. All right. So, um, we say exactly where he’s going to be when it comes to designating where if we going to be an hour or not. So, um, other than that, I go right to Dallas. Um, obviously, uh, a team that has a a quarterback that’s playing at the top of his game. So, defensively, we got to be on point when it comes to that. Um, and I look at their defense somewhat similar to ours, man. New coordinators trying to get his um trying to get his system in and try to get guys to operate in that system the way uh the way he wanted to. So, um, this I know he’s had some challenges, but man, he has some talent over there and we have to make sure that offensively that we understand exactly who they got cuz they are disruptive and they are fast and they can make some plays and they have guys that can make some plays. They have some ball hawks over there that we got to be um, we got to pay attention to and we got to be good with that. But um, just like any week, man, we are out here ready. We they’re coming here and we’re looking forward to go win a game against uh, Dallas. So, um um any questions with real quick with Brilin? Um it’s a sprain, not a tear or you guys are still trying to figure out still trying to figure that out. Still trying to figure that out. And then when you say IR Yeah. Is it like based off of what you’ve seen so far? I know you say it’s serious, but is it so serious it’s season ending or just Well, I can’t say that just yet. You know, the thing is I want to make sure that you know as far as roster like how we want to manage the roster when we designate exactly how he’s going to be. It was reported as an MCL spring. Is that accurate? Yeah. Well, I don’t want to say that until he gets a second opinion. We understand that. One guy you didn’t mention, Brownley. Brownley. Yes. Brown Brownley will be practicing this week and he’s um there’s a chance he can play the nickel in the outside corner for us. Um and he’ll be competing for one of those jobs. Kind of lost in the in the game Sunday was the performance Garrett had down the stretch late. I mean the the questionable pass interference call that was a great catch and they made a great catch on the touchdown. What just what have you seen from him in your short time with him? What stands out to you? He is um he is no doubt a number one receiver in this league. It’s not like, you know, we didn’t know that, but uh the plays that he can make, um the way that he can contort his body, um the way he can come down and and and be sure to catch some of those, um 50/50 balls or whatnot to him or something like they’re 8020 cuz he’s going to come down with a lot of them. Um and he is an amazing person to to sit there and just just watch and want to try to make sure you get him the ball as much as possible. That’s nothing new that we’ve talked about uh since the beginning of training camp. Um I mean I’m I’m glad he’s on our team and he’s one of those guys that inspires a lot of the players on this team because the way that that he goes out and play and how competitive he is and um listen sometimes, you know, it it it it shows up and sometimes people look at that a different way that he’s he’s bitching or something like no man he’s just competitive. He wants the ball and he wants to win and he’s come from a winning background. So, um, I’m attracted to players like that to be honest with you and I love everything about the player. Hey, Erin, you referenced 2021 a couple of times about how you’ve been through, you know, adverse circumstances. I’m wondering what was it like being 0 and8 and what was it about Dan in that time that helped him through it and stuff that you could lean on that applied to them? Well, I would say that it’s it’s not fun being 0 and8 and um man, you get ridiculed, you get talked about. I mean, people um people are after you, you know, in in in in the worst way when as a coach, man, you just have to believe and and understand the things that how you want to build and the foundation that you’re trying to set that you cannot waver from those things even when the outside noise is really um is really on you. And he did an outstanding job of that. Um, the same with with the with the whole staff because we all felt it and it was tough to go through, but man, you just you just make sure you lean on those things, those positives that you see within the games that you play and you still try to make sure, man, it is a play style that you’re trying to trying to create within your team that you that we saw happening in that at that point. We just knew at some point it was going to break through and once it broke through, man, we were just rolling. And listen, I feel the same way about here. And I understand how the fans feel. I I I do. I’m hurting just like they are. I understand how you guys feel. I’m hurting just like you are. But I do know this. I believe in everything that we’re doing. And I know that’s going to be a breakthrough. When it breaks through, um this thing’s going to pop exactly like um like we all wanted to. So um and I actually had conversations with Tony Dunie and he went 0 and5. And listen, he felt the same way. And these things take time. Um, but I believe in everything that we’re doing. I believe in our coaching staff and I believe in our players. How is it for a lot of those? How is it for the players? Like how do you make sure that they stay Yeah. you know, on board and everything like that cuz frustration is going to set in and we started to see some of it the other night. See, the the thing that I think most people um look at and try to focus on is the why. And and you do have to address the why. And we do that quite a bit. But the shift that we go to is the how. Like how do we fix these things? And we’ve talked about that today. We’ve talked about that on a number of occasions. And our players believe in that. And to me, I think that um the frustration would be there, but the confidence and the belief is going to be there because now we have answers and solutions to how we’re going to get better. And does that mean we’re going to get better right now? No. But you see it. you see it and you see small glimpses of it and that gives players the belief. So, um I’m glad the way these guys are still in it. Man, it was an upbeat walk that we had today. Um meetings have been upbeat and they all are part of us getting this thing turned around. Is it kind of along those lines? I’m sorry if it’s it’s a little bit of a repeat question. Yep. Like for some of these guys, even some of your best players, they they’ve been dealing with this for for years. And I know you’re trying to turn the page, but they have like that baggage. Yep. that, you know, I’m sure there’s like here we go again type of a feeling. How do you balance that between you wanting to turn the page and and the fact that like they’ve had these years of frustration and losing games like Well, it it goes back to what I just said is I want to make sure that there are solutions to um to all those questions, all those issues that we’ve had that caused us to lose games. Um, and we meant and we’re working on those, not just in the meat room and not we’re not just talking about it and walk through and all things, man. We’re actually going out in practice and making sure we work on these things. And the thing is I’m not going to let those things slip. And when they know that um, and when they feel that, when they hear that, they know that everyone’s accountable to making sure that the things that we got to do to make sure we fix these issues that we’re all on board, coaches and players alike. And when you operate like that, um, I think the players really have a good sense of, okay, there’s an accountability on everybody making sure that we understand the solution and not just focus on the why. The kind of got lost in the shuffle the other night, but Justin Fields touchdown run. Yeah. Kind of kind of extraordinary. That one of the better quarterback touchdown runs you’ve seen and just um, he never ceases to amaze me. um when he’s running with the ball cuz he’s such a big strong man that and able to elude and um he has the agility just to make people miss in space um that I’m not surprised to see some of those things. Now the run the run in itself was amazing because I think he went he ran I think a 43 yard touchdown but he might have ran 90 some yards to score. Um, but that’s who he is and mean I I expect him to make plays like that just because of who he is. And um, but there are dynamic plays by a dynamic player. So I expect that from him. Dak Prescott is a quarterback that I feel like he gets a lot of heat. Yeah. From Dres and everyone. And then every time I feel like I see him play, he looks really good. Yeah. Um, what’s just your evaluation of him as a player? To me, it’s no different than any uh any top-notch player, and I’ve said this before. When you when you’re the highest paid player in the league or you pick at a certain spot in the draft, the two things that come with that is criticism and expectations. And he will that will never leave him. I don’t care how good he he is not gonna everybody’s gonna expect more no matter how good he plays. And to me, I think um he understands that and he doesn’t care. He just go out there and and do what he do. So um kudos to him for that. But um our job is to go out there and make him look bad, you know, and and listen, our guys understand that. But and hopefully, you know, you guys are right mad about him in that sense. But he’s a damn good player. Um he’s been a good quarterback since he’s been in this league. And man, he is like a one-man show that can lift that whole team. And that’s just who he is. He’s a damn good leader. Also, you clearly see that from watching him on the tape. He seems like, real quick follow on this, he does seem like the type of quarterback, too, where he’s going to give his guys chances where it’s 50/50 ball or even 40, 60, 30, 70, and he’s going to give his guy a chance to to to tilt the odds in his favor. Yeah. Defensively, do you let your guys know that? Like it might be covered, but we don’t have to let them know that. They see that, you know, and that’s just who he is. And um man, it seemed like it doesn’t matter what receivers’s out there playing with him, he’s going to give those guys a chance or he’s going to put the ball exactly where they can make a play on the ball. And and most good quarterbacks do that. So, I’m not surprised to see that. But, um no, our guys know that that they got to be on their P’s and Q’s every time because he’s going to get the ball out of his hand. He’s going to try to put in a spot where his guys can go make a play. Um and he makes it hard to defend. I mean, that’s just who he is. He’s a damn good player. Zach, we obviously talked to you a lot about penalties, but I’m curious like how do you manage the frustration of the flags that aren’t thrown? Like there’s a play say that aren’t thrown. Yeah. Like when Rucker gets it after the like and the players obviously are kind of mad or frustrated by those kind of moments. Well, I tell the players like let me handle the refs and that takes a little frustration away from them. Um, but I’ve said this before is, I mean, we have to work to be able to get those calls and um, and we will we will at at some point as we continue to progress through this this this year. Um, we will get those calls cuz I can see us getting to the other side of that. Um, and I’ve seen it with a lot of teams, you know, so I’m not about to sit here and and and moan over those. you know, the thing that I’m going to tell our guys, let’s just keep playing and at some point those calls will be um will come to us and be on our side and and I truly believe that. I truly believe it. Thanks everybody. All right. Thank you.

Lanorris sellers baby. We just gotta be worse than saints.
These reporters asked the most insignificant questions!!! I just don't understand, asked questions like who is our #2 receiver, obviously we don't have one in our roster, are you looking to make a trade for one???. Are you planning to make changes to our secondary?? Stop asking the same questions.
This is his best presser to date. He is communicating better and with less arrogance than when he began.
Address the why? The why is Clemons, Cisco, Stephens, MC3, Tony Adams and nobody behind Quincy. We’re fucked.
i still believe
I feel 13 wins coming!!!
SO YOU HAVE TO EARN FAIR PLAY IN THE NFL🤔
The Lions were a bad once and AG was the DC of a team that began the turn against the Jets, December 18, 2022. The Lions won that game on a 4th and 1 short pass to the TE that ended in 50+ yard score, that beat the Jets. A win might have salvaged the Jets season, the loss certainly doomed it. The Lions didn’t look hopeless after that win and the 2 franchises went in opposite directions. Turn arounds take time, nothing is overnight. If Jets fan just show a little faith and stop with the angst and the local media just calms down, the Jets will be fine and competitive in the end.
I BELIEVE IN AG!✈️✈️✈️
Work to be able to get those calls.. crazy how u got to work ur way to getting a fairly called game. Wish we knew why that is the way it works in the nfl
Let's go AG, you are Jets. Love you my guy!
We believe in you AG
JETS ARE LOOKING FOR A COACH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The outside noise is full of dumb people who don’t understand football, made stop listening to podcasts and the blow hards on sport media.
He believes in his players!! 😂😂😂😂 What a goddamn JOKE!!!
I love going through these comments 😂everyone knows has the answers and know how to fix the team and then you talk about firing him ?😂 just let him get through the FIRST Season lmao
Give this man time to get this ship right! New York is a different place than Detroit for sure, but what he did for that defense with the Lions was amazing work! Glenn is also a former Jet and had a good career with them! He is a really good coach and he is going to figure this out, I truly believe that! He just needs time to establish his vision and this was never going to be a quick fix! Best Jets coach since Rex Ryan!
Coach AG inherited JD and Saleh’s players. Give them regime time to flip this roster.
Gotta give Ruckert credit for not getting up and going after the guy that hit him. In the past that would’ve ended up being a penalty on the Jets. I HATE how this season is going but I believe that Glenn will turn this franchise around. As hard as it is we have to be patient.
Steve Wilkes must go. Horrible. I don't care what AG says.
Glenn finally embracing humility is a good sign. Humility is powerful and defeats blind arrogance.
Love AG man. I’m not giving up on him. This isn’t his fault. This is on the staff and the players. Wait until he gets his own roster too. This is just Saleh and Douglas leftovers. The team will improve the next few years. It’s going to be a rough season.
Dan Campbell and the lions were 0-8 ? Now I have some hope
Another 30+ points going to be given up by this defense this week & im going to hear once again “I’ll have to look at the tape” #FireWilks
We’ll be alright !!! Don’t fall off the bandwagon let’s go Jets
Stubborn Wilks cant get out of his own way. Switch it up! Put Quin at edge look at KC using Chris Jones across that DL. It looks to me Glenn’s system crashing into Wilks system.
Step 1 – trust your top receiver.
Tank for Mendoza
I believe I’m riding with AG
Trying to take the players that Douglas and saleh picked and force them to run a man heavy scheme knowing damn well we ran zone coverage like 70% of the time last year is annoying asf to see aaron Glenn put your players in the best position to succeed you do not have the personnel to run this man heavy scheme you’re so obsessed with
It’s gonna take time for him to get the players he needs and wants to play the way he wants but it’ll take time and patience
It's frustrating to be 0-4, but this new regime is trying to turn around 15+ years of incompetence…we gota be patient.
design more plays for garrett. put him in motion. put him in the slot. give him the rock!
BUM
Ignore the noise AG
Let run 4 in a row coach…we need to
Per usual zero accountability. Same old Jets
