He used to be criticized for being too lanky, too easy to push around. Now he says he’s gone from 215-220 lbs to around 245 lbs with better strength training, core work, etc. But he also admits there’s a fine line, too much weight too fast could mess with his mobility, athleticism, and even risk more injuries.
What makes this especially interesting is how intentional it seems. The focus isn’t just bulk up it’s strength, core, staying true to what makes him special. If he nails that balance, he could dominate more in the paint without losing his edge on defense or his fluidity.
Do you think this weight gain will boost his game long term or is there a risk he loses what made him unique in the first place?

I think at 240-245 he’s still at a really good weight for what he wants to do. I kind of selfishly want to see what he’d look like at 260 in his prime cause as tall as he is, he’ll still be pretty lean at 260 and at that weight he’ll be getting moved around easily by only the heaviest of players in the league which would be quite few at that point but I doubt he decides to pack on that much more weight. My guess is that by his prime he’ll be a solid 250 and just stay there until he’s a bit older and at that point drop weight a bit again as most stars do when they get up in age
One thing that is reassuring: Wemby is 21 years old. Lanky teenagers often naturally fill out in their early 20s. This weight shouldn’t feel to unnatural to him if a big part of it comes from a maturation process. Because of this, this may be the biggest weight and frame jump we see in his career, especially if he chooses to always stay on the sleek/agile side.
This is just grown up Wemby. That shit we saw the past couple years? Just a little boy compared to what’s coming.
I think he just needs to get big enough to absorb contact in the paint and he might be reaching that point soon. His biggest strengths are how quick and fluid he is. He should capitalize on that like KD does.
KD is possibly the most unstoppable offensive player ever. If he can be the most insane defender ever while being KD on offense, I’m not seeing a downside lol
I like Wemby to bulk up a few more lbs maybe around 260 max. I think at that weight, he will be strong enough to not easily get bullied by bigger guys. On offense, he can cook stronger guys by being faster and taller than them.
I don’t want too much weight for him. Might cause injuries. I’d rather be on the safe side.
i see it as their requirements to work. i am always fascinated though how those trainers transforms those lanky rookies to these beast without loosing what they are good at nowadays. the trainings i see looks crazy and funny but it does work.
thanks to whatever plans the lakers and mavs have, we should see less obese players.
There is so much intention in his whole routine. And I say that having almost zero insight. Damn this season can’t start soon enough.
I dont think will every be as big as Giannis. I think weight is more so that he doesnt get pushed around by smaller players on offense and defense. In playoffs we saw physicality increased so i think the transformation will benefit him.
at the start of last year’s camp he was listed at 235 and at the start of this year’s camp he is being listed at 240
He was 236 lbs (107 kg) during his last season in France.
He never was 215-220 in the nba nor the Spurs nor the year prior… I don’t know where you got that number.
Wemby’s weight hasn’t changed that much to be honest.
