I’d imagine everyone is either in that camp or the I won’t touch this job with a 10 foot pole camp.
He might have some truth. Problem is, there are also people who want the job so that they can get paychecks without doing work. They likely will require less pay, and I think the question of which option would be more appealing to Monforts has a pretty easy answer.
Diamond may have a point and while that could be true, the Monforts need to let that GM fulfill the dream instead of setting them up to fail.
Now, there just needs to be a legitimate search to find and hire one of those smart people! I could see the challenge of figuring out baseball at altitude being attractive to people, I think navigating and figuring out the Monforts might be the bigger challenge.
I bet all those smart people would change their mind five minutes after talking to Dick, lol
Does this org allow “smart executives” or…..?
Tell those guys to put their applications in the pile to the left
The pile on the right are Dick and Charilies guys
The people smart enough to look at this job and see it as the ultimate challenge are also smart enough to look at the monforts and realize they will never actually give any gm the leeway to do what needs to be done to make this team successful.
Just like all the pitchers are itching to come here to play.
I volunteer as tribute.
I’ve been playing Out of the Park Baseball since 2005.
Job security too. Know regardless how bad you do you won’t get fired for at least 4-5 years.
I absolutely believe this. It’s too bad the ownership has been so insular to be able to see this
If you believe that, I have a beachside house in Montana to offer you.
I could see the big appeal but only if ownership actually lets someone come in and shake things up plus spend some money on things off the field. Nobody wants to take on that challenge if ownership says “nah, you can’t have anymore money for anything, also every decision needs direct approval from us, also you can’t fire anyone currently working here.”
Hopefully the Monfort’s will actually give someone new the authority and budget to make big changes around here.
I want to believe this and have hope but man it’s hard to. I’ve been a Rockies fan far too long to trust this will be handled any differently than the past.
More realistic feels like we promote a yes man from within and hire Matt holiday as the coach to try to keep Ethan from leaving someday.
Although I wouldn’t be against Matt as coach. He clearly helped develop his boys pretty damn well.
