Nick Sirianni On Facing the Denver Broncos

Nick, uh the the process of getting the offense to the line quicker. Just what have you seen this season from that and what are some things you guys can do to maybe get to the line quicker? Yeah, there is a lot there’s obviously a lot that goes into that. It starts with how you practice and and go through that. So, you know, obviously Kevin has to say what personnel we’re in, right? And then those coaches offensively uh have to send in that personnel whether you’re in 11 12 variations of 11 12 21 whatever it is. Um then Kevin, you know, calls the play in. Jaylen’s got, you know, so it’s like a game of, you know, then Jaylen’s got to read the call uh there and then everyone’s expected obviously to know exactly what um they have to do there because if there’s any in in hesitation, then um then there has to be another little bit of a communication. So, they got to go get lined up, get set. Then there’s the aspect of um seeing what the defense is and so you can make your calls whether it’s a run game, pass game, or anything so everyone’s on the same page. So, there’s so much to it. Um there’s so much to it that you want to be able to get up to the line of scrimmage um so you’re able to go go through your entire process like and and and account for some of these things that that I just talked about. Um and and that way, you know, you’re getting the the snap obviously off in time, all those different things. But there’s so many pieces that go into it. That’s why you practice, right? Um that’s why you go about that so you can so you can be as efficient as you possibly can on there. And there’s a time, you know, different scenarios in the game call for different things, right? Um whether you’re in a two-minute, whether you’re in a four-minute, right? when you know so all there’s there’s scenarios that call for all these different things within it so um but our goal is to be as efficient as possible in that that to me is something all those things that I just said are we talk about this a lot master the things that require no talent because this game forces you to play talent verse talent all the time you got to master the little things that require no talent and that’s one thing on there um and it’s pretty obviously pretty in-depth and a lot of moving pieces to it. There have been a high degree of blocked kicks and punts across the league. What have you noticed in that trend? And you guys spend a lot of time on that. What What do you focus on? Um whenever you spend that much time on Yeah, the kicking game is no different than, you know, offense and defense, right? the time, the amount of time you spent on it, the the meeting, uh, all the all the things that go into it, the scheming, the fundamentals, the scene were, you know, what you can expose, what you what you um don’t want exposed on yourself. So, it’s it’s it’s exactly the it’s exactly the same. Um, you know, our guys have done a really nice job. Cam did a good job of getting through the line. Coach Clay did it really and his and his staff did a good job of drawing up a play um to allow that to happen where we’re able to make a big time play in the Tampa game and the same thing we got, you know, in the uh in the Rams game where we were able to block the kick to help us win the game and ultimately the other kick as well. So, um, but it’s the same type of process that you go through offensively and defensively to to expose weaknesses, to hide weaknesses, to take advantage of your strengths, to um, you know, really all those things, but then it comes down to fundamentals. It comes down to detail. It comes down to effort, comes down all those things. So, it’s I what I’m saying the long way of me saying it is it’s the same as offense and defense. Um, it’s just with special teams. Nick, obviously there’s been a lot made of getting the ball to AJ. Um, but your other receiver uh has fewer targets. Uh, what have been the issues in getting Devonte started and how has he reacted to to not seeing the ball as much? Yeah, these guys want know that they’re great football players and and want to do things that contribute to help us win football games. Um, and you know that to me that’s that’s normal. We we we want to get and we want to get them the ball, right? And so we have to do our job as coaches to help them get the ball. Um they’re great players, so you know, and then they have to go out and we all have to execute in that situation. Um but every, like I’ve said to you guys before, every game plan starts with how we get, you know, in the pass game, how we getting AJ, how we getting Devonte, how we getting Dallas the football. Um and you know, and we have other playmakers, Jan and um you know, Grant and Saquon. as far as in the passing game. So, that’s always the first thing in our discussions. Um, and so when you know your process is that and you know there’s things that are going to you’re that you need to help you win football games like getting those guys the football, I think it in the long run it takes care of itself. We’re early in the season. you know, I don’t think we’ve um you know, obviously we all like we’re we’re you know, we’re pumped that we’re 4-0, but we know there’s a lot left to we know there’s a lot of things to get better at and that’s exciting. That’s really exciting. And so, um I just what I see from Devonte is, you know, him coming to work every single day working to get better. um because that’s the things that he can control is um how do I get better today to put myself in the best position to make plays and win the game on Sunday. You’ve been here obviously you’ve had one of the best offensive lines in the league. Do you see that same level of consistency this year or has that been maybe more of a problem with the injuries and different things? Yeah, I think our offensive line’s playing at a very high level and um you know that that is one of the strengths of our football team um with the guys that we have there. Stout does a great job coaching them, you know, and you got Lane, you got Jordan, you got Landon, Cam, uh Tyler’s doing well, Fred’s been giving us good minutes, Matt Prior’s giving us good uh plays, and you know, and then you have other other guys like Brett and and um and Drew that, you know, they’re ready to go as well. So, um, just I love that group. I’m excited about that group. And, uh, you know, our, you know, we have to be more consistent on offense in the pass game. We got to be more consistent on offense in the run game. But, you know, you judge yourself on coming out of every game, you’re going to judge yourself um, based on how tough you played, how detailed you played, how together you played. And that’s something that we got to continue to to build our detail. But, you know, um I I just see us coming out every game like, man, our team played together, man. Man, they had they were excited for each other and had fun together. Um man, our team played really tough and and I say that, you know, all of us. So, I say that with the offensive line, but all of us um coaches, players, you know, we have to continue to get better at the detail and and that’s every position. What’s the plan for Nico in practice this week and how do you see his his his role when he comes back? Yeah, we’ll see. um you know what what I you know J’s played good football uh Zack Bond’s played really good football uh Nico’s played really good football in the past so really excited about that room uh and the guys that we have in that room um you know Trot’s making a ton of plays on on uh special teams. Hey Trot, what’s up man? All right, Trot’s making a ton of plays on special teams. Smiles making a bunch of plays on special teams. I love that group. Uh, I love that group of linebackers and you know, we’ll see how the we’ll see how the week goes and where we are with that. But these guys love to play football. They’re physical. Um, they’re really excited for each other’s success. Um, they keep getting better at the details of the game. So, I love that group because uh Jiad and and Zack and also play edge and everything like that. does having Nico when he gets back, I mean, does that give you a lot more options and how you think? I think anytime you have all, you know, a bunch of good football players, it, you know, gives you, it gives you good options. Um, and so, um, yeah, we’ll see how everything goes and, you know, when everyone’s ready and, um, this and that. But, just like I said, really excited about the room and the and the different things to answer your question, the different things that each one of those guys can do. Um, very versatile players that that can help you win football games. you’ve emphasized in the past of making sure that you’re making room for joy in this process, right? Um where do you guys feel like you are with that? I know there’s a some frustration at least on the offensive side of the ball. Where do you where do you think you guys are in that respect? Yeah, you got to give yourself, you know, points for wins, right? Because you’re we’re going to feel terrible about ourselves when we when we lose and you know, we’re going to take away points, you know, when you lose. You got to give yourself points for wins. Um and you got to enjoy it. Um because that I mean you’re you’re doing this to go you’re doing all these things cuz you love it. You’re doing all these things so you can go out there and be at your best. You’re doing all these things that we do throughout a week to continue to get better. And you have to you have to be able to celebrate that uh when you win. I think I think we got a lot better feel of that than we have had in the past because one thing that I’ve said a lot is you know that’s Sunday. We got to celebrate this win in the locker room, on the plane ride, you know, whatever, whatever it is, you have to celebrate this win. But that, make no mistake about it, you want to continue to get better. And there’s opportunities after each game to get better. Um, and so that’s okay. When you come in Monday, like we no one should be feeling the feeling themselves from the game still right now. Um, really hopefully that was done on Monday after we went through the game. You feel good that you won, but you got know you got a lot to correct. I think at the end of the day, you’re trying to judge everything based off of I know I’m trying to judge everything based off of did we I know I sound like a bro record, but it is like I’m obviously I’m we’re all judged on wins and losses, but I’m looking at every game. Did we play tough? Did we play with in toughness? Did we play with relentless effort? Did we play mentally tough? Did we play physically tough? Did we play detailed? You know, did we play with great fundamentals? Did we play with good situational football? or were we all on the same page? Um, you know, what’s your grade for that? Did we play together? Right? And, you know, we have ways to be able to judge that as well. So, when you come out of a game, I’m always looking at that. Like, did we do those things? Um, and if you did those things and you won, great, right? If you did those things and you lost, you can handle that because you know, if you do those things consistently, good things are going to happen and you’re going to keep getting better. If you didn’t do those things and win that, that’s you don’t you don’t like that either. If you didn’t do those things and lost, you’d like that even less. So that’s how you go about, you know, that’s our standard and that’s how you go about it. And so it doesn’t mean I think anytime you win though, Tim, you have to enjoy it and you have to celebrate it because that’s what you do this for. You go through it for this. Um to be able to to look your your teammates in the face, know you gave everything that you had. Um, and that joy that you get, there’s nothing like I feel bad that you guys can’t come into the locker room until 15 minutes afterwards because there’s nothing like that feeling after a win that you get. Um, and you got to be able to enjoy that and you got to be able to celebrate that, but that doesn’t mean that there’s any contentment in any way because that’s how I’m looking at it every time. Not if we won and lost, not if we won or lost a game, but did we play to our standard in toughness, right? Did we play our standard in detail? Did we play our standard in together? Um, and that’s why you spend so much time as the coach as a coach of making sure that the job description of toughness detailed together is very clear of what you what you expect because then you can what you can measure you can improve. When you have a player or players voice frustration publicly, how do you manage the effect that might have on the rest of the locker room? Yeah, I think uh again this is why um generally speaking this is why you’re always working on your relationships um in the building um you’re always working on those relationships um and because there are ups and downs of every season and so um when there’s ups and downs and seasons it’s it’s very easy to to fall when the relationships and togetherness isn’t like you I know I talk about togetherness a lot a lot, but it’s not just the loveydovey thing about being on a team. It’s part of it, but it’s like when you go through the ups and downs of season, this is why togetherness is so important that you that you want to have that and have a strong base um to get yourselves um through the downs and and to accelerate through the ups. Yeah, Broncos have a couple of the elite edge rushers that have great get off. What challenges do they pose? Yeah, you said it. Um you know, great get off. This is this is a really good defense. um lot of respect for them. Um and the playmakers that they have at every level, especially what you just said at the you know, at the um at the end edge uh position. Um you know, they they’re fast, they’re quick, they’re athletic, um they’re they’re physical. Um you know, all the things that you know that you would imagine is these guys have it. Um you know, at defensive end. So, a lot of respect for this defense. A lot of respect there. You know, we know that we’re we’re we’re strong at tackle. So, you know, you go into some of those matchups and you’re like, man, good on good. Um those are exciting games to be a part of. Um when it’s good when it’s good on good, I think that’s an exciting part of this game. How have you gotten better at since you’ve first became a head coach at dealing with relationships with players? What do you what do you think you do better now maybe than you did Yeah. years ago? again, you’re always trying to get I think that one of my that’s one thing that I’ve always if you look back at um or talk to some of my former players that whether I was a position coach or whether I was their um uh coordinator, you know, that’s always something that I’ve I’ve worked at was the relationships with the players. Um and I I don’t know if I can say this got better or that got better. Um I think I’m trying to grow in every aspect of what we do, tough, detailed, and together. So just trying to create a good example of what it’s supposed to look like because if I’m just preaching um tough detail together and I’m not living it, then I’m full of crap. So um just living it out every day. I don’t I don’t know if I have a great answer for you. Uh but um yeah, just you just try to live out what you what you preach uh every single day be um you know there. All right. Thanks, folks. Thank God.

  1. Please stop running on 1st down every time! The offense is too predictable. KP'S was creative with the Goeddert TD's, but then what happens?

  2. So much hate in the comments. Hard to tell who are Eagles fans and who aren’t. Love the Birds! We’re 4-0 with things to get better at. I agree with Nick, it is very exciting! 🦅

  3. Shoutout to Coach Vic And Coach Clay! If not for those two we’d be 1-3 defense and special-teams have been put in the worst positions by our offense.

  4. So yeah he ain't changing shit with the offense. AJ gonna be running the same 4-5 routes with no scheme. AJ was right but just went about it the wrong way.

  5. These new fans are so spoiled lol. I’ve been a fan 20+ years. We gotta be better for sure but you would think this is 2012 they way yall commenting

  6. You can’t just tell AJ Brown to put up with it. He’s getting paid $32 million when that money can go somewhere else if you won’t use him. The Georgia boys need to get paid eventually. And if he leaves Devonta will get double teamed. His value to the team is immeasurable and you need to involve him early, not throw him pity passes late on the game.

  7. Eagles fans we go through this every year with our coaches and playing calling, yall remember beginning of last season yall was calling for nicks job because he wouldn't kick FG's and we was missing out on points, then all of the sudden we caught fire and dominated all the way to the superbowl.

  8. I can show you guys footage of AJ brown being open a lot of times some of it is on KP some on the oline but some of it’s hurts as well i love hurts but he has to get better

  9. Patullo should not have a job, his horrific play calling shouldn’t go unnoticed, we need to acknowledge this problem, before a real team make us acknowledge this problem. It’s theoretically impossible for any defense to cover Aj, Smitty, and Dallas. We have to tighten up seriously, this is awful to watch, there’s no reason we had 0 f*cking completions in the second half, FIRE PATULLO
