Who’s More To Blame For The New York Jets Winless Start? Coaches Or Players?
All right, guys. What’s going on? Welcome in. In this one, I wanted to really ask you the question, who do you think is more at fault here? Right. The Jets are obviously this winless team, and we are coming off just this disgusting, disgusting performance on prime time football in front of everybody against a divisional opponent. the winless Miami Dolphins now one and three thanks to the New York Jets effort. Uh but who’s more at fault, the coaches, Aaron Glenn, Tanner Ringstrand, Steve Wils, or the players on the field? Or do you think it’s a combination of both, which is, you know, the camp that I sit in? So, let’s talk about the coach’s shortcomings first, right? Let’s talk about those issues. Let’s talk about uh like my personal problems that I’ve seen with this staff. Um, and also please let me know your thoughts down below in the comments section, you know, with just some of the deficiencies that we’ve seen from this staff. I think the first thing that that really comes into play is the lack of defensive adjustments. It just feels like we have this way to play and that’s it. The Jets aren’t going to deviate from it. They have their specific style. That was always one of my biggest gripes with Robert Salah. And you know, obviously Bill Bich is a, you know, New England Patriot here and uh we’ve we’ve you know, Jets fans, we don’t like Bill Bichc, obviously. But one of my favorite favorite things about Bellich throughout his time with the Patriots was his approach on defense, right? Overall game planning, he treated his own defense like water or clay, moldable, depending on who you’re playing. I mean, it’s the classic Bill Bich response, right? like him uh all you know mumbly you got to be multiple like it really you I understand it’s simple here but I like having this multiple approach you know it would be one thing if every offense ran the same system every offense had the same strengths they had the same weaknesses they had the same type of quarterback they had the same type of play caller the same same type of tendencies it’s not the case right one team plays completely different than another team depending on your matchup now of course you do have a lot of carryover you do have some similarities from, you know, from team to team. For example, like, you know, the LA Rams and the 49ers. Just looking at this Thursday’s game, you see a lot of similarities between those two coaches here, right? Just based specifically on scheme and also uh game plans. So far, it just seems like the Jets are just so stuck in their ways that, you know, we’re going to play this specific style and that was our game plan and we’re not going to come off of it. Um, you know, and again, that was one of the issues with with Salah, you know, like he had his his style of defense and that was it. He he couldn’t deviate from it. He couldn’t really adjust when things didn’t go well. Um, I don’t want to see and look, Aaron Glenn, you know, I’m not going to compare Aaron Glenn through four games to Robert Salah and Jeff through four years. That’s completely unfair. But what we are seeing on the field is a lack of adjustments. You know, I I really don’t understand some of these obvious obvious blitz looks. You know, if you’re an opposing quarterback, if you’re Tua, if you’re Josh Allen, right, Baker Mayfield, the quarterbacks that we’ve played so far, it’s so easy to see where the pressure is coming from on these blitzes. It’s so easy. And if I can pick that up and I’m watching on television, do you think the quarterback who’s a really good, b really smart, c really accurate, and dudying the Jets defense for, you know, hours upon hours per day in the week leading up to the game, do you think they can identify it? Obviously. Obviously. I mean, the Jets pre- snap are horrific. Absolutely. I I mean like there was a play the other night against the Dolphins where you have Michael Carter flying backwards. Now I don’t mind, right? It’s a very common thing in defensive football to have a DB move backwards, especially on a big time deep threat like Tyreek Hill in a big critical situation. But why is he moving so fast and so early? You know, the things don’t have to be so cut and dry like this is the play. Like we can get nuance with it. You know, two will pick that up from a mile away. Just you a quick look out to the left. You got to imagine Tyreek Hill is probably going to be early within the uh progression scheme, right? And you have a DB moving backwards. OB Tyreek Hill is a veteran wide receiver. Tua at this point is a veteran quarterback. And what happens? It’s an easy pitch and catch. Tyreek Hill runs straight, turns around, boom, reception, pick up of a nice chunk play. It’s like that stuff is completely completely avoidable. Uh I’m not saying, oh, you got to change every single play. you got to change the scheme or anything, but it’s like, you know, in certain situations, certain moments, you can disguise things a little bit better. It just feels like the Jets have a hard time identifying what they’re seeing on the defensive side of the football, right? What the other team is doing well, what the other team is doing to have success. The Jets just can’t pivot or have that kind of checkmate style of move, that checkmate style of approach. It just seems very, very, hey, this is what we do and we’re either going to live with it or die with it. And so far, the Jets have died with it in four straight weeks. Four straight weeks. And look, I I would be the first one on here to say even if the Jets were 0 and four, but the defense had one or two good showings, okay, that’s a different story. But the fact is, not only we just are we just winless, but we are one of the worst defenses in football, and we have shown zero progress. The only player that, ironically enough, has actually gotten better every single week is Brandon Stevens. I understand he’s an easy target. I understand that he takes so many shots on social media, but give credit where it’s due. So, that for me is my biggest gripe on the defensive side of the football. Offensively, it does feel weird, you know, ripping Tanner Instrand apart. Um, I I just quite frankly don’t feel like he deserves it. He’s a first time OC trying to learn the ropes, trying to learn on the fly here. He’s working with a question mark at quarterback. Our best offensive lineman is out. The wide receiver room is completely barren of talent outside of G5. You know, like Josh Reynolds, Tyler Johnson, Allan Lazard have a combined 63 yards through four games. Can you think just think about the magnitude of that statement of that fact? your wide receiver two, three, and four through one month of football have a combined combined 63 yards. Now, of course, you can argue, okay, well, the Jets want to run the ball first, and you know, again, it’s not like Fields and Taylor are these dynamic top 10 passing quarterbacks. I understand that, but you got to be able you you have to be able to get some sort of volume. I 63 yards through four games with three wide receiver stat lines added together is a complete joke. That that that’s that like there’s really no other way around it. And look, I’m not saying Tanner Ring Strand is perfect. I mean, there are moments where I’m like, uh, man, I really wish we we would have passed the ball in this situation or we would have maybe got a little bit more creative. You know, I I didn’t really necessarily agree with this play call, but again, for a first-time offensive coordinator, the expectation, the bar coming into the season, h it can’t be, okay, I have to agree with every game plan, every play call. We need to see quarterback development. We need to see an effective passing game, an effective running game, pass blocking, run blocking. Everything needs to be 100% A+es across the board. If that was the case, Tanner Inkstrom would be getting head coaching buzz right now. if the Jets offense looked like that, it’s simply unrealistic to to talk about, especially given the state of the roster. And so that’s why, you know, for me, I I tend to just come down on the defense a lot harder because the expectation needs to be higher for them. First round picks, millions of dollars. They’re running a defense that, you know, they want to run, the players fit it, and it’s just a it’s just it’s been a complete embarrassment. We have to call it like like it is. Now, as far as the players go, right, when we’re looking at the defensive side, you know, again, there’s a lot of comments, fire Steve Wils, fire Aaron Glenn, uh, the Jets need to make a defensive coordinator change and all these different things, but how much of it is the players shortcomings? because when you go back and watch, right, I mean, some sometimes it’s it’s easy to tell on on TV um live during the game, but when you go back and you watch the all 22, there are many many many moments where I actually like the Steve Wilks play call. I actually like the the the Blitz uh design. It’s drawn up really really well. It’s called in a perfect time, but it’s the players that are simply just not executing. And believe me, I understand that the word executing is, you know, it’s kind of like this taboo word because you hear it from all these different coaches all the time. Guys didn’t execute. They didn’t execute. But when you go back and you watch the 22, when you’re watching this team, you know, on Sundays on Monday, the other night, yeah, they aren’t executing. Tony Adams like like that that play call where I believe it was achan on a handoff and Tony Adams like that play call is great in that situation. Like my hat goes off to Wils. What a great call there. Like that play is designed for that safety in that moment, Tony Adams, to come down, barrel down, and make that hit. What does he do? Whiffs again. Whiffs again. Through four games, the New York Jets have 45 missed tackles. 45 missed tackles. Think about that. Think about how many chances that the Jets could have had a player down. We could have wrapped someone up in the back field, but we overpursued or there was poor technique or there was poor effort or just this overall soft mentality. You don’t you don’t want to go in and just stick your nose and make a hit, which results in positive yards for the offense. Sometimes it’s just a gain of one, but sometimes it could be a gain of 15, 20, or 30 yards. The mentality needs to change on the defensive side of the football. The missed tackles are a complete joke. Now, of course, you can say, “Okay, well, why isn’t Wils? Why isn’t Glenn? Why aren’t these guys working on tackling?” Well, you know, if we think back, tackling was an issue under Robert Solo. It was an issue in year two. It was an issue in year three. It was an issue in the first month of the season. In year four, Jeff takes over. They’re running a tackling seminar. You know, what NFL team is actually doing that in uh this day and age? But they do it. Did the tackling improve? No. So now we get to this season and the tackling is still for the most part pretty soft. Not every guy. Harrison Phillips is not a soft tackler. Quinton Williams is not a soft tackler. Quincy Williams is not a soft tackler. Um there are player Zary Thomas I I felt like had you know some aggressive plays against the Bucks albeit it was like 10 12 plays. Brandon Stevens definitely flies to the football, but those are the guys that stand out to me as far as, you know, fast, aggressive tacklers, guys that aren’t, you know, breaking down their technique. Now, it’s not to say they’re perfect or these guys are immune to to missing tackles because not only, you know, it’s not just this technique problem every single time, but um we’ve seen missed tack I mean, how many recaps over the last three seasons have we talked about, oh, the Jets missed too many tackles? At some point, we have to look at the players. I mean, it’s so easy for, you know, someone sitting at home to say, “Oh, the Jets were flagged 10 times. We were flagged 13 times. What are we doing Wilks? What are we doing Inkstrand? What are we doing, Glenn? Aren’t you working on penalties? There’s there’s false starts. There’s uh, you know, overpursuing. There’s late hits. There’s stupid stuff. John Simpson, right? Um, late hits, roughing the passer, these defensive holdings and whatnot. You know, where’s the coaching staff? This stuff needs to be improved. Again, the penalties with this football team have been a yearly issue. At some point, we have to look at the players because if the penalties and the missed tackles aren’t being cleaned up by Robert Salah, a defensive mind, they’re not being cleaned up by Jeffrey, a defensive mind. They’re not being cleaned up by Aaron Glenn or Steve Wilks, two defensive minds. At what point do we look at the players and say, “No, you need to get better. Not the coaches. You need to get better.” You know, we can talk about takeaways, right? Or sorry, the lack of takeaways. This was an issue last year. I I mean, when was the last time you can remember the Jets actually landing on a on a fumble, right? Jarring a ball loose, someone picking it up and taking the distance, someone, you know, a defensive lineman just falling on it, you know, and I’m not talking about the Will McDonald blocked field goal. I’m talking about an actual defensive play. You know, can you even like think about a Sarner pick? like it it like it just doesn’t really like nothing is really coming to mind uh at an abundance. It’s just like one or maybe two plays. Again, this has been an issue for years now. And so again, to bring this thing uh back full circle, is it the players fault? Is it Glenn’s fault? Is it Wilk’s fault? The coaching staff? Um it’s a combination of both in my opinion. It doesn’t really feel like this coaching staff is doing any favors here for this Jets team. doesn’t really feel like we’re getting elevated play because of Wilks. Again, I I have been impressed with Tanner Instrand’s uh running packages so far. Um now, obviously, we’ll see what happens with the Brillin Allen injury. He’s expected to miss some time here, potentially going on IR, which sucks, but again, the the coaches haven’t really done anything to where I’m like, “Yes, let’s go.” Right? Wils is maximizing the talent. Glenn is really doing his thing out there. No, it’s just not happening. And then from the player side, it’s just year after year, the same issues. They’re being flagged, they’re not disciplined, most of the guys just are not tackling, whether it’s technique, whether it’s mental attitude, whether it is just an overall approach, it’s just not getting done. Um, you know, like to to just kind of go down the list quickly of the secondary because believe it or not, when I look at the front, Will McDonald, Quinnon, Harrison Phillips, and a healthy Germaine Johnson, that’s not half bad, right? That front four is pretty damn good. Now, ideally, you want Will McDonald to get in the backfield a little bit more. Ideally, you want Germaine Johnson healthy. They’re not perfect. They’re not top five. They’re not top 10, but they’re definitely, in my opinion, a top 15 defensive line. When I just look at those four, like there’s a lot of defensive lines in football that just have tons of issues. But when I look at linebacker, I have not really been impressed with Sherwood all that much. I I I felt like he looked pretty good against Miami, but outside of that, there’s been some question marks there. We’re thin at that position anyway. Brandon Stevens started off the season very, very bad. Got a little bit better against the Bills, got a little bit better against the Bucks. pretty decent showing last night against Miami. Michael Carter complete shell of himself. Uh what is going on there? He’s now hurt again. I could like if this continues, I could very very well see the New York Jets um you know, I hate to be blunt here, just moving on at the end of the season. He’s one of the highest paid corners, but the production is literally one of the worst. We just made a trade for Brown Lee. You can take him. You can play him in the slot. He’s aggressive. He fits what the Jets want to do. This guy’s kind of handpicked here from Muji and Glenn. I have no problems whatsoever when Brownley gets healthy inserting him into the starting lineup. No problems whatsoever. The slot quarterback position, the middle of this defense has been putrid. It has been flatout awful. I think it’s time to shake things up. Gardner, you know, we said it in the recap video. Unfortunately, he just looks replaceable. You know, take a random corner. You can just do a one for one swap. And it just doesn’t feel like the production is going to get any better or worse. It’s just okay. Like it it is what it is. And the reason why it’s so frustrating is because Gardner is the highest paid quarterback in the National Football League. He’s not the 15th highest. He’s not the 20th highest. He’s a top five pick, the number one highest paid corner in football. And so it’s been really disappointing to see kind of this downward spiral with him. Uh Andre Cisco hasn’t really done anything to get excited about. Uh, unfortunately, right, it it just kind of feels like average to below average free safety play. Uh, strong safety Tony Adams. Again, this is probably the worst position on the defense um outside of slot corner. If we’re just looking at straight production, it is um flatout horrendous. It’s it’s uh quite frankly horrifying to watch, which is why, you know, I think a lot of Jets fans were pounding on the table to sign CJ Gardner Johnson. Not only can he play strong safety, but he can play free safety. He has the relationship with Aaron Glenn, not just in New Orleans, but back in Detroit, we’ve seen him produce in multiple locations. The the the kind of rap, the mo with CJ Gardner Johnson is, hey, when he does not feel like his players are playing up to their caliber, if there are, you know, cracks and mistakes on the defensive side of the football, he’s not fun to work with. He’s going to get on other players. I think that’s exactly what the Jets need. You know, you’re looking at some teams right now, you know, would he really fit with the Chiefs? Would he really fit with the Ravens? Would he really fit with the Bills? Uh, probably not. But with the Jets, would it be so bad to get a coach like a, you know, a pseudo coach on the field here in Gardner Johnson, someone that knows Glenn’s system, someone that’s worked with him before in the past, someone that’s actually going to get on Michael Carter, get on Gardner about, you know, making a mistake. I I I really don’t mind if Gardner Johnson comes in and is a jerk and kind of wakes people up, kind of kicks things into gear a little bit, you know? I I’m like, at this point, the defense is not getting any worse. I can tell you that. So, let me know your thoughts down below in the comments section. Thanks so much for watching and as always, go Jets. [Music]
The New York Jets are 0-4 on the season. Who do you think is more to blame? Aaron Glenn and the Jets coaches or the players? As always..Go Jets!

Its 100% on the players man. It all on them. They make half the mistakes they have made this year we are 3-1
I knew wilks was a mistake the minute we got him
The safeties are terrible
Defense!!!!
Coaches. I say this every year but NOBODY on the Jets should be given a starters spot. They should earn in the preseason by playing AT LEAST 3 quarters per game. The jets are a bad club PERIOD. They need to be working TWICE as hard as other clubs in the preseason.
I’m 55 years old and I would lay Tony Adams out in an Oklahoma drill. Guaranteed
It's both but it's more on the players. There is no way they don't know how to execute on some of this stuff. It's ridiculou to suggest otherwise. TE is fine at OC so far. I think he is timid about letting Fields pass. Wilks is not doing a good job adjusting. The miscommunication, tackling, and being out of position is more on the players. But some of his defensive play calling are not getting it done and it comes down to adjustments. This team does not have a good S. Moore might end up good but he's a 4th round rookie. How much can we expect from him? Is there really no one better than Adams to play S? What are we doing?
At some point we cannot allow the excuse they the coaching staff is inexperienced , they need to get better.
Unpopular opinion, I don’t think Steve wilks is the issue, the issue is the personnel, other then DL just doesn’t seem like the rest of the defense hasn’t full bought in
Youcant coach STUPID out of a player
This could have been averted back in FA when the Jets felt the best thing to do to strengthen the team…was to sit idle and do absolutely nothing.
I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the jets were doing defensively
Lack of adjustments during game, means lack of Coaching. Pro NFL and can not tackle?
Definitely Aaron Glenn
What happened to Michael Carter ? Has been terrible since he signed that extension. He was our most consistent db.
So many Jet fans were so happy with Aaron Glenn during training camp. They said that Glenn was the type of coach they wanted even though Glenn had yet to coach a single game as a head coach. Now that the Jets are 0-4, many of these same fans want Glenn to be fired.
Should of went with REX
I think the biggest problem, particularly defensively is that we just have the dumbest players in the league. There is an overall lack on both sides of the ball of what we call a Football IQ. This team makes junior high or Pee Wee football mistakes.
I blame the coaches for not fixing it.
Glenn is not a HC.
Its the players and the GM. I'll give the GM some grace though but the players need to step up. I dont wanna hera about scheme or anything like the these guys straight up miss tackles and get lost on man coverage. Teams can run the same 3 plays on this defense and score tds. The LBs & safetys all gotta go. Cisco is decent. Can we get somew freaking edge help and better D linemen to support Quinnen? To me if its not sauce or Quinnen then their jobs are in question next season. Gotta focus heavy on defense next off season. Ive been saying it for a long time WE NEED A STRONG SAFETY!!! Im tires of seeing these practice squad safeties on our team and other content creators (besides my guy JC) say safety is not that important. The difference on this team with a stud SS and LB core would be tremendous. That is what Jet defense was in the golden days. Grace to the staff but the players need to step up or get terminated.
I agree with you on CJ Gardner Johnson. 🏈💭🤔😀✌️
I want this guy fired…..we havent had a free man running at the qb in 4 games……defense is easy to attack its the coaches…..why is our rb 2 returning kicks ……stupid…..this gm didnt go get us a wr#2…..im pissed
Run the ball establish the run play the rookies on both sides of the ball get Taylor and Aran Smith involved offensively and start marcal Moore and cb back Thompson
