Spencer Rattler on Giants defense, Taysom Hill | New Orleans Saints

All right. How we doing? Not bad. How are you? Good. Good. So, coming out of that Buffalo game, what’s the confidence level like for you before going into getting back in home? Yeah, I mean, obviously a great team uh in Buffalo, played on the road, uh kept it tight, you know, there till the end and a few key plays. Um, you know, and that game’s a little different. So, that’s kind of been the story of the year so far. Can change that around. Um, that’s our focus. Um had a great day today in practice. We just got to keep building. No one told us. Uh you remember I mean you mentioned the few key plays and a lot of times like that’s what an NFL game comes down to, right? Is like a couple of those plays. How do you and and the offense or really the team go about getting on the other side of those key plays? Just keep at it, you know, uh focus in practice. Um getting extra reps on those timing routes. You know, if we’re running it at, you know, a deeper depth in the game, let’s make sure we work it in practice. Uh vice versa. you know, we got to be um you know, work it on all levels, work all timing. Um continue to build that chemistry so we can hit those cuz you know, it’s a game of inches and we’ve seen that, you know, a few inches off and you know, these games are different. So, um you know, getting better at that, working on that and and it’s a group thing. Had talked about how you know, you had earned, you know, your first win based on the work that he’s seen behind the scenes at practice and whatnot that that you have done well and earned that. and he also kind of praised your mentality throughout the process. You kind of worked to get that first win and he commended that as well. What’s been the key to staying mentally sharp as you wait to get that first uh victory? Yeah, you know, um you know, you wish you already had one, but you know, it’s a team thing. You know, um it is what it is. You can’t control it. It’s in the past. We’re focused on the future, so it’ll come. Um, you know, we’re we’re we’re working hard this week to get it this week, get it done for the team this week. Um, so we can get a win on the board and hopefully start stacking stacking them. How uh how pleased have you been with your own, you know, personal progress throughout uh throughout the couple weeks? Feel good. You know, I feel like I’m not playing losing football, which is good. Um, you know, areas to improve of course, just like everybody else, but feel good. I want to keep climbing, keep getting better, and um, you know, do even more. So, uh, but I feel good. Feel like I’m not playing losing football, which is key. and just keep going out there uh playing to win, playing tough, and uh getting the ball to our playmakers. I don’t know if we’ve ever asked you, but like what time do you get here every morning? And like what’s kind of the work that goes into all this? Like how do you go about your day? Mhm. Yeah. Get here, you know, hour and a half before we even start the day, maybe two hours before we start the day, and go over the install, what we got. Um you know, get in the tubs, do whatever we got to do to get ready for the day. You know, just get your mind right on a on a Wednesday. Um, even on a Tuesday, you know, we’re in here getting after it and um, you know, doing the extra, which is which is good. Everybody does the extra here and um, you know, the process is right. Uh, which is good. So, continue continue that process, add a little more each week and um, you know, let the outcome take care of itself. Just the extra like watching film outside of this like what kind of extra I mean film, tape, what what at meetings, you name it. Extra throws after practice, just extra work. Um, and then like is it kind of crazy that like you can work so hard and like the result isn’t there yet? Like how do you kind of square those? It is what it is. You know, you want to get a win. Process is right. Like I said, um, going in the right direction. It’s just a few plays each game. We all got to clean up. I got to clean up and we will, you know, I’m confident about that. Uh, it’s got to get done and we got to get it done this week. What do you see with this Giants front? I know edge pass rushes that got n and disruptive front there. Yeah, really good front. um you know, probably one of the best in the league. You know, we got to have a good plan for them. A lot of speed, a lot of power um you know, on the back end. They don’t do as much as what we’ve seen, you know, from these other teams disguise-wise, but you know, they got their wrinkles and everything, but they do they run what they do well and can cause some havoc, you know, to quarterbacks and offenses. So, uh we got to get the ball out on time. Um take our shots when they’re there and um just move the chains. Do the losses mount like what? Do the losses like mount like each one like is like a I don’t know if it’s harder and harder in between but no how much easier or not not maybe not easier is the probably not the right word but what’s the impact of having a run game behind you like what you had in Buffalo? It’s huge. I mean, um, I think we ran the ball for like 100 190 yards that game and, um, obviously more runheavy game. Um, but, you know, it you can kind of control your time of possession, you know, get first downs on second downs, stay stay ahead of the chains, and, um, you know, it marries up with action game and and keeper game and, uh, kind of keeps the defense on their toes, especially when we go tempo, under center, running the ball, um, doing different things. So, I I enjoy being under center. Um, you know, going back to last year, I kind of enjoyed it, but I we we we can uh switch it up on this offense is is which, you know, what I kind of like. So, um, you know, I think we ran the ball really well. That’s a bright spot of our offense right now is from from last game, of course, but, uh, guys are running it well. We’re blocking good up front. We just got to got to keep that rolling. So, some layer of kind of development throughout the course of the season of the offense, but just watching the first four weeks, it feels like every week there are new wrinkles that are added from whether it’s Kell or whatever. Is that something you’ve kind of appreciated about this offense? Every week there’s just something new that helps the offense succeed. Yeah, I mean I think uh obviously everything’s game plan specific to who we’re playing, but I mean we do a good job putting in the right plays. Um you know, getting in the right opportunities. Uh it just comes down to execution and and and hitting them in the game and you know, if it’s a run, if it’s a pass, um you know, protection, everything. So we just all got to be on the same page out there and and ultimately just score more points. you know, we have opportunities every game um down there. We got to we got to score more points and uh starting this week, you know, that’s our goal. We got to score more points. The short motion handoff to Alvin, which you know, how difficult is that to kind of get the timing right and what is that how does that help? Like what does that kind of the offense in terms of? Yeah, I mean it’s a it’s a uh it’s tough on that defensive end. You know, he’s got to pick either the QB or Alvin. So, um especially with that quick motion. I mean, it’s tough on tough on the end and then uh if you execute it well, it’s a good play. I think we, you know, got like two 15 yard runs on that, which is great, especially on first down. So, um it’s a good wrinkle. Another good thing. We we do a lot of different things off of it. So, um I think that’s a good good part of our offense right there. Spencer, what stood out to you uh when you went up against Jonas Sanker this summer and I guess what you’ve seen from him since he’s been going against you and Yeah, I mean his maturity, you know, he’s a rookie, but you know, he’s got that, you know, vet presence almost, you know, um I mean I’m not a vet by any means, you know, yet, but being around some guys and he’s very uh mature, very um serious about his craft, you know, being around him during camp and he’s a playmaker, you know, he’s in the right spots um And then you saw in the game he he balled out. So, um it’s great to see it brings juice to us as an offense and uh he gets a big time turnover at the 50. We got to go down and capitalize off that. So, um that’s all we can ask for out out of that side of the ball and they’re they did a great job and Yonas is uh he’s a really good player. I mean, did you take note of when you were facing him in the summer and you knew like he he had like certain instincts like when you say a playmaker? I I know he did make a few during the He did and uh he’s got a good good nose for the ball. um seems to always be in the right spot and um his reaction skills are really great and you got to you know he’s got good eyes. He’s he’s a ball hawk back there so you got to you know make sure you hold him with your eyes when you’re going against them for sure. Brian Dable today said that you remember visiting your high school when he was at Alabama. Do do you recall that interaction? No, we had a pretty good relationship. Uh I mean I remember him showing up uh during a weightlifting class when I was maybe sophomore year. I think he was at Alabama and um you know obviously met with him there and you know I think they offered me that day and then going to draft prep did a visit up there the whole deal um and you know had a great meeting with them and got a lot of respect for coach Dball for sure. Is it like kind of funny? I don’t know if that’s the right word, but like that you can be in the weight room and then like years later you’re in draft room and like kind of the Yeah, it’s you know um small world you know but obviously he he you know climbed up the ranks and you know I got a lot of respect for him. Um always enjoyed my time around him. Apologies on asking you more about the record but like have you noticed people trying to throw in your face at like I was a fan in Seattle uh holding an 0 and8 sign at the time. Like what do you kind of make? Do you have to stay off social media? Like what do you got to do to I mean it is what it is when you’re the quarterback. You know, it’s going to be part of the territory. Um you know, you want to get some wins, but again, it’s all about the process. I mean, I’m sure there’s been other guys to not start, you know, get get as much wins as they wanted to in their early part of their career. Um, obviously different situations for everybody, um, as you know. But, um, you can’t trip over it, you know, that’s one thing I’m I’m not worried about that. That’s in the past. Let’s focus on the future and, you know, hopefully stack some wins here soon. Best way to build it to like be able to process that like that. Where that kind of come from just I mean, I think uh I mean, being a quarterback, I think it comes with a lot of adversity from high school to college to now. So, I mean, I think I’ve think a lot of QBs have already been through some sort of adversity, you know, before the league and then getting here, there’s always going to be some adversity, so you got to fight through it and just part of the part of the position. Good to see Tason. Oh, man. It’s great great to see those guys back out there. It’s good energy. Um, I know they’re excited to be back out there. They’ve grinding their butts off, you know, um, to get back. So, it’s big to have those guys back and, um, I’m excited to get out there with them. See him throw it like he did. What do you mean back? Hey, Taesm still got it, man. Not going to give too much intel on that, but you know, he could do it all. We’re so used to thinking about him as, you know, Scott does everything and what not. But has he been somebody that you’ve been able to lean on from the quarterback perspective in your time here as well? Yeah, he’s been in our meetings, which is awesome. You know, having a I mean, that’s our vet in our meetings right there. He’s been around Drew, seen how he he’s done it, and um you know, he you know, he gives me, you know, routine tips of, you know, how do I need to approach the week? He’s seen how it’s supposed to be done, and he’s done it himself. So, um, I’d be crazy not to ask advice from him. You know, a guy that’s literally done it all in this league and got a lot of respect for him. He’s a great guy and, um, you know, it’s even better when he’s on the field. So, I’m looking forward to that. Does he give you I mean, is there kind of help from him too, even just beyond throwing the football, but like you’ve increased your, you know, rushing and and kind of scrambling potential and everything so far this season. Has he been some of that? Uh, not with the rushing part. No, I don’t I don’t want to run like him, but um I don’t think I could live doing that. But, um you know, he’s he’s really smart guy, you know, coverage wise. He he knows what he’s seeing and from from all different positions, quarterback, running back, receiver. So, uh it’s good to ask him questions on the sideline during games throughout the week, see what he’s seeing and and I like when he gives his input on, you know, maybe what I could do better, what we could do better. In regards to that run game, you said you wanted to use your legs more. You obviously did so in the last game. Are you happy with where that is at? for you over there asking with coach Moore for some design runs and different things like that. Yeah, I’m happy where it’s at. You know, I want to keep doing that, keep using that. Um I think it’s a good, you know, good key to our offense, you know, to keep keep drives going, get us in scoring positions, um you know, in key moments of the game. Sometimes you have to run it and you saw Josh Allen do the same thing. You know, when you need it and you see a hole, just go and get it instead of going through your read. So, um it’s part of the game. I think I want to keep doing that. And you know, Kell does a good job of calling obviously the the called QB runs, but um I think the big ones happen when they’re, you know, kind of off script. How do you feel like you’ve done in terms of when re-watching the games like noticing when or when not to take off like, oh, there was maybe a pro player versus like how do you feel like your balance has been like when I’m feeling it was the right decision to pay? Yeah, feel good about it. you know, uh, if you get a first down, it’s always a good decision, you know, and feel like in that game I did. And, uh, there might be a, you know, six-yd throw there on third and eight, might get tackled at six. Um, so if you can go get it with your legs, go get it. Save a hit. Um, you know, got to be smart outside the pocket and not take too many shots. But, um, you know, I’m pass first and then run second. So, definitely want to get the throws off, but if if the if the rush lane’s there, you got to go get it. Let’s see. One of the big talking points has been about a couple of those inb breaking routes and the connections there and everything. What goes into making those connections and how do you all continue to refine that? Yeah, you know, you just got to keep repping them. You know, uh you’re not going to be perfect throughout those games and but you want to hit those and uh you have to hit those. So, you know, I put that on me. Just keep working the timing, keep working the the footwork, the the chemistry with the guys, how we’re going to run it. Um, like I said earlier, depending on where we’re at on the field, we might rep it all week from the 10 yard line and get in the game and it’s on the 17. So, the timing’s off, but you got to make it work. Um, slow down your feet and and just you don’t got to throw them as hard as you can. Just put it to a spot. Let them make a play. But again, game of inches, you know, you want those. You need those and can’t miss those anymore. Won’t miss them. And just uh you were talking about game plan earlier, the way that it shifts and changes weekly. How evolved like what’s your process with Kell in terms of developing a game plan? Do you have a meeting with him where you say, “I like this, I like that.” Like, how does how does that go? Yeah, every Friday, you know, I go up to his office and we talk about, you know, favorites and normal D and D, third down, red zone, tempo, you name it. So, I give him a list of stuff I’m comfortable with and what I like and um he does a great job of, you know, there’s nothing I might be some plays I go in there and say, “Hey, I don’t like this. You know, it doesn’t feel right to me.” So, we won’t run that. But, a lot of the plays I really like and uh we run well. So, I think he’s got a great I thought he caught a great game last game and I know he’s going to keep getting better. We’re all going to keep getting better and get a feel for this thing. So, just got to keep working at it. The process is right. Just got to go out there and put it all together, which we’re close. And, you know, I’m tired. We’re sick of saying it, but it’s time. So, um, time to get it done. Time to go out there and do it. And got, uh, so much faith in this group and we can go get it done. How long do those meetings last? Um, you know, not they’re not too long. You know, it’s Friday, fast Friday, so we’re in and out. But, uh, get get to the point. Um, you know, talk talk through the game, what we’re going to start with, what we’re thinking. And um I think it’s a very beneficial meeting. You know, something that uh you know, not all coaches do, but I I really like how he does that. Thanks. Thank you.

  1. Rattler i believe in you everybody talks shit but i see your improvement lets get our first win sunday and like you said stack them up and win the nfc south put a chip on your shoulder spencer and attack who dat spencer is that

  2. More and more fans are starting to believe we just gotta start winning and building brick by brick โ€ผ๏ธ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿฟโšœ๏ธโ€ผ๏ธ

  3. Boot up or shut up. It's time Rattler, I'm rooting for you week to week but you gotta make it happen now or never! I like your attitude, I see leadership qualities and like your story but we can't keep waiting for 1 win, ONLY 1!!! 1 win is not the goal either, we need confidence we can have a playoff future nothing less should be accepted by the fans, organization and teammates. At the end of the day the record will define your career. Whether it's here, another team takes a chance on you or just the history books. Wins define if your future continues or ends shortly, not playing decent 75% of the time but folding under pressure when the game is on the line to win, tie or keep it close enough to stay in it. Should be at least 2-2, I feel like it really should be 3-1. Good luck, I want you and the Saints to succeed starting now

  4. Rattler was ass and delusional all the way back in QB1, attitude is dog shit heโ€™s just a spoiled little brat who sucks ass at football now ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€ yall need a new WB and ASAP
