TIGERS POSTCAST: MELTDOWN IN CLEVELAND! Detroit Tigers BLOW Game 2 Leave 14 Men On, DECISIVE GAME 3
This is the Tigers Post Cast, your instant game reaction for the Detroit Tigers, part of the Locked On Network, your team every day. That’s what playoff baseball does to you. High one day and rock bottom low the next. Welcome into a live locked on Tigers post. I am your host Jake Rema. You can follow me on Twitter, Jake_Rapma. And the series is even at one game a piece. The Guards take this one six-1. And the Tigers are back in meltdown mode just like we saw at the end of the regular season, but inventing new ways this time to lose one for 15 with runners in scoring position. 15 men left on base. It was painful, painful to watch and we will revisit all of that pain. If you’re new around here, would like you to invite you to like today’s video and of course subscribe to the channel if you haven’t yet already. Daily Locked on Tigers content with Scott Bentley and of course the postgame show with me, Jake Rema. Now, if you’re a Guardians fan, shove it in our face. Sure. We had a lot of Guardians fans on the stream yesterday and maybe after a win there’ll be even more Guardians fans on today’s lockdown Tigers postcast. But the for eight innings this was just two bad baseball teams is what it felt like. I mean the base running mistakes that the Tigers made and I said listen we’re going to get into this in my biggest talking point. we’ll have our turning point and I’ll be able to hone in on what I’ve said all year about for whatever reason this Tigers team and their aggressive base running that was praised all season long on the FanDuel broadcast because why wouldn’t you praise this team for every little thing that they do, it came back to bite them in the ass just like any baseball mind could have told you if you consistently make egregious mistakes and egregious errors on the base pass when moments matter the most is you’re you’re going to do the exact same thing. The other part of this, like I mentioned in the open, one for 15 with runners in scoring position and 15 men left on base. But let’s talk about it. Your comments, welcome. Fire up that comment section. I know we’ve got a ton of comments already coming in. I’ll do my best to get to as many as possible. But we begin where we always do. Our biggest talking point after a Tigers loss in game number two. This is what you’ll be talking about. Any competitor will tell you that when the moments are the biggest, the lights are the brightest, you have to be able to perform at your absolute best. That’s what separates good from the great, turns players into legends, that sort of thing. And really, and I I’m sure Guardians fans would tell you the same thing, neither team was at their best today. I mean, look at the way the game started. And I’m not picking on the kid. I know it was his major league debut, but errors all over the place. And the Tigers though, they they have no excuse. This game was there for the taking. You had a crooked number when Jav Bayz hits the RBI single. Let’s break that play down for a second. For Zack McKinstry to get gunned out at third, there’s no excuse. And I haven’t, you know, the way that replay is is played back. I finally got a replay on the ESPN broadcast like an hour later. But Dylan Dingler rounding third. And it’s a little thing, but you got to do the little things right in the highest magnitude of the game, like the postseason. You have to be sprinting home. He’s looking back at the baseball. There’s no reason for that. I know everyone does it and when things like this happen, the mistakes get the mistake gets magnified. But Zach McKinstry, if you’re going to use the oven mitt, use it. He the the first point of his body does not make contact with the base and therefore the tag being applied to the helmet and head area makes contact with him before he’s in safely at third. And little things, they’re little things, but again, in the heat of the moment, they get magnified. And if Dingler’s running 100% full-on sprint, he scores there. And if you’re Joey Cora, maybe, you know, you don’t send him there. Or maybe McKinstry turns around, gets in a rundown. Okay, he’s gunned down, but then it’s a it’s a 2-1 game. The weight and the the air being lifted out of the balloon and deflated when that game went from 2-1 Tigers to 1-1 cannot be overstated. It really can’t. Other notes I had written down for my biggest talking point. You know, in a playoff game, you’re going to have a lot of talking points. You really are. But Jamai Jones pinch hitting for Riley Green tells you everything you need to know. And there’s no confidence in Riley Green. And that was a huge pivotal moment of the game. It was yet again another opportunity for this Tigers team to break it open, put up a crooked number, but instead Jamai Jones strikes out. And this is the craziest part. I texted a buddy when they had two on after that Carpenter single. Glabber gets hit by the pitch. Carpenter singles. I texted a buddy and said, “They’re not scoring here.” and call me cynical, call me whatever you want. Call me a bad fan. And I know we had some comments. I normally don’t respond to comments on the Lockdown Tigers post after the show has aired. Of course, when the show’s on, but oh, you were so down on this team a week ago, and now you’re all excited that they won. Yeah, of course I was excited that they won. I mean, this is fanided content. But at the same time, we’re not going to not call them out or hold them accountable when egregious mistakes are made. You have to call it how it is. And this Tigers team, for how many consecutive innings did they have two on this particular time? Happened to be first and third. Nobody out. Torqulson shallow fly ball. Might as well still been on the infield. That’s not getting the job done. Jamai Jones strikes out. But again, it’s more telling. I I I don’t want to crucify AJ Hinge for making a bold call in that particular moment and pinch hitting Riley Green. Riley Green’s been terrible. I know he had the double, but he he’s been absolutely atrocious and I liked the chances better with Jamai Jones up there than with Riley Green. I really did. And uh that being said though, I think Jamai Jones got screwed on the 3-1 pitch. Being called a strike, it should have been ball four would have loaded the bases. Totally changes the the demeanor, the outcome of the atbat, of course, but at the same time, be big league baseball player, man. It’s the playoffs. That’s why you’re in the game. That’s why you’re facing a lefty. Find a way to get it done. The Tigers repeatedly, repeatedly gave themselves opportunities and did not get it done. And the result, a winner take all game number three. All right. Um, do want to give a shout out. I saw one comment there. How about Jav Bayas? I mean, I put this on Twitter. I take all the negative things I ever said about Jav Bayas. And if you’ve been with us from the beginning of the Locked On Tigers post, you know, one of the bits we have is I’ll say something nice about Jav. It pains me to do so, but he’s been phenomenal. He’s the only one on this team, two for four today, and should have had the two RBI, but again, boneheaded mistakes from the Detroit Tigers. Demetrius McNeel is up first. Tigers with men in scoring position is a disgrace. To make matters worse, game three is win or go home. Got to come back next game. Yep, that’s 100%. AM says one for one for 15 with runners in scoring position. Runners in stranded position. That’s good. The RISP stands for runners in stranded position. Unbelievable. It’s It’s just Elijah Harris says, “I’m done.” I’m not blaming anybody for feeling that way. We got one more. I mean, we got a winner take all. There’s not a clutch bone in this entire team other than Scooble, Elijah Harris adds. And I don’t even believe I don’t disagree with that by any means. R1 VJ4, we haven’t even talked about this yet, but Melton fed them in the eighth. Herder should have been in there first and maybe Melton. That was just good hitting by Bo. Yeah, listen. I I know we can look at the box score and say, okay, you know, it was still a 1-1 game in the bottom of the eighth, but you just with the number of times the Tigers failed to score and the opportunities they had, that was that was inevitable. There’s no doubt about it. And I’m sorry I can’t get into all of these comments, but uh let’s take a quick timeout. We’ll get into our biggest uh turning point as well as our player of the game. We’ll do our best and uh whatever happens happens, man. Couple more comments here. Travis Wayne, Javi being our best hitter is concerning. I don’t know how to how I feel about flity. I’m with you. And Tim Palmer, I agree with you. This is the result of Scott Harris thinking he’s the smartest dude in the room. We sure could use another bat and a few more arms. No, it’s exactly right. This team wasn’t built to last and this team wasn’t built to make a playoff run. Really, you think about it. Um, and especially on top of that with your stars not performing. And I yelled and screamed at the deadline. I’m not going to do that again. It’s not as simple as, oh, you add this player and you’re a contender. I get that. I’m trying to summarize it in a matter of 30 seconds here. And the season’s not over. There’s a winner take all game three. We’ll gear up, roll our sleeves up, see what happens in game number three. Jack Flair to pitch for the Tigers. I don’t feel overly optimistic on that. But at the same time, baseball is a crazy tame crazy game. The Tigers have to do something. I mean, one for 15 with runners in the scoring position. And it’s just insane. Sony for the Guardians will pitch. Just absolutely insane. All right, we got to get into our biggest turning point. Time to reveal where the game was won or lost. It’s the turning point. Couple of options in this one. How about anytime the Tigers had a runner in a scoring position, right? One for 15. I got to stop saying that. But 15 men left on base. My original turning point was going to be the Zack McKinstry play Dylan Dingler and with runs being at such a premium that still looms so large. So it has to be the turning point. It really does. But to you know I hate to give the Tigers credit for anything but they did continue to create opportunities. They didn’t quit after that and they continued to get men aboard and they continued to fail to get that clutch hit. What we wouldn’t give for just a hit like Jav gave us with runners in scoring position. And you know, as it was happening with the base running mistake, you know, of course, I’m screaming at my apartment. I’m so rattled by the fact that everything I said I couldn’t stand about this team with their egregious base running mistakes now looming so large in the most pivotal game of the season. Do I feel validated? Sure. But I mean I mean again I want this team to win so badly at that moment. It was a horrific, horrific realization that of course the aggressive base running comes back to screw this team over. Of course, of course that’s how it worked out. Another turning point, you know, Jamai Jones again with the opportunity there in the seventh, one out, and just what does the game look like? Of course, the just the overall feel of the game, the overall makeup of a batter’s approach of a pitcher’s approach is so different. If it’s 2-1 Tigers, and even again, if it’s not 2-1 Tigers from that particular time, if it’s 2-1 Tigers from Jamai Jones or from Zack McKinstry and Dylan Dingler figuring out a way not to make base running mistakes, but season comes down to one game, win and advance to the next round, lose, and the season’s over. We’ll have a live lockdown Tigers postgame show for you. After that, make sure you check out the daily show with Scott Bentley. Make sure you like today’s video. Subscribe as well. And the Guardians fans, hey, maybe you get to go to the game tomorrow. That could be fun. I don’t know. Anyways, enjoyed the postgame show. I’m glad I didn’t have a meltdown because what what do the kids call it? Cash crashing out. Crashing out. I I I crashed out before I got on camera. How about that? All right. Um also check out the locked on Lions squad show. That’ll be tomorrow. It’s on Thursdays. Uh we’ll have um special guest Will Birfield from 971thetick.com. He does the Lions pregame show on Fox 2 as well. Busy time of year. Tigers Guardians game three winner take all. Let’s see what happens. Thanks so much for tuning in. Love you guys. See you next time.

they dont get there offense going they will lose next game
Javy shouldn't hit 9th on this crappy team. Also who pinch hits for their 3 hitter? AJ is infuriating
Really need 2 big bats this offseason. McGonigle + a big free agent. Then you get Vierling & Keith/Meadows at 100%. That was surely missed this year.
So predictable it's comical
It don’t matter we don’t belong in the playoffs. We are a joke of an offense Hinch is a bad manager time to part ways. Little league is more entertaining than watching this joke of an offense. I actually hate this team. Worse team in all of our history.
Man baseball is such a crazy sport it's insane how important it is to have pitchers. The whole game was a battle then in just one inning of bad pitching the whole game turns around and I see the same type of thing for game 3. Whoever has the best one inning will win and I'm a Cleveland fan and I have no clue who will win game 3 none at all. Both these teams come and Detroit are both perfectly evenly matched and it's based on however they are feeling will win the game.
Hinch was a 100% wrong taking your only hr hitter that can go yard and a fly ball would have done. Greene will have no confidence now. Season is over
Maybe skubal can go in disguise and pitch 😂 if Flaherty is on they will win if not they will lose. Crazy that Baez is the best hitter right now he’s 4 for 6 he’s been great. Move Baez up in the order, I mean some hitter other than Baez has to come up huge or it’s probably over. Almost better off bunting every other hitter but Baez by this point.
Fire Hinch signs if he’s here next year. This was awful decisions. Hurter in 8th with 3 lefty’s coming up. That’s a easy call not a rookie who lost a week ago giving up a bomb to Rameriez
Flaherty and no bats tomorrow. Long audible sigh. At least we can immediately pivot to the Lions.
Don’t get me wrong I love Hinch but I think he lost this game, it’s like he was managing to lose this game or something, he did things this game that I don’t recall ever seeing him do before, first he took Mize out too soon especially knowing that our bullpen sucks, then he pinch hit Riley Greene, I understand it was a left handed pitcher but I would still trust Greene left on left over Jones, and then if you want the right handed bat I would’ve chose Ibanez over Jones and Malloy, and then I think he put Finnegan in too early, I would’ve thought that he would’ve saved finnegan for the 7th or 8th, but that goes back to taking Mize out too early, if you leave Mize in until at least the 5th then you could’ve had Finnegan for the 8th.. Hinch most have a lot of confidence in Flaherty because we’re gonna need him to pitch a gem tomorrow.. Alright that’s my little rant, let’s go Tigers
No way tigers win game 3. Paper tiger no pun intended
Cleveland fan here, neither team has been playing their best. Last two games have been agonizing.
The Tigers need to find a way to keep Skubal. I would rather he be in the division then go to one of the big market teams like the Yankees. Dude is just special.
See y'all tomorrow for game three.
Take care and Godbless.
Can Skubal pitch right handed? And how about giving him a bat?
Mize wasn’t even bad, offense was awful
Dingler loafed
Pulling Mize in the third looked like a good decision until the 8th inning. Melton/Heuter should have never been on the mound late in the game. Mize should have went 5 innings.
Load the bases, none out, and no runs? ROFL Base coaches? ROFL 15 LOB? Season ends for Tigers tomorrow.
They will not hit. Do not hit. Cannot hit.
They refuse to hit. Theres no hitting.
As much as everyone blames the pitching, YOU CANNOT win games in the postseason getting only 1-2 runs a game. We had so many opportunities to get some more and we either have a base running error or just simply cannot put the ball in play. Luckily we have Skubal or we’d be out already. Gotta hope the bats show up tomorrow or we are going home instead of Seattle.
Some of Hinch’s decisions also require whiskey and a revolver 😅💀. Please do better tomorrow
Perez is 5 for his last 60, or something nearly that bad. Why is he in the lineup?
Jones should have bunted. It was the right call to PH for Greene, who stinks.
I think both these teams are playing exactly at their level
Torkleson suuuuuucks
Tigers need to hit gym. Their hitting is effeminate
If Hinch safety squeezed yesterday, why not do it again today. 1st and 3rd nobody out, get the run home, no matter how!
Carp looks lost
Greene strikes out
Torkelson pops out
Meadows lines out
Perez grounds out
Melton gives up home runs
Absolutely no hope of winning with this joke of an offence.
Look, for once let’s be honest!
–
This Team has ZERO chance of even getting to the second round with the NON HITTING group we have!!
–
HISTORICAL LACK OF HITTING
–
Best thing get some sticks in the offseason!!
Our pitching isn’t the greatest, but we can’t hit a lick!!
–
Bat Tork 7th or 8th & Javy in front of him!!
If we’re gonna bat 250 keep them lower in the lineup
Lets be honest, the Tigers should already be heading home. As amazing as Skubal was if it wasn't for the Guardians impression of the Tigers play on defense and baserunning they would have won.
HIT THE FREAKEN BALL!!!!! bottom line
We know that if they win tomorrow, anyone who said today, "I'm done" will be watching when they go to Seattle. I hope they win tomorrow. That said, I don't feel good about Flaher5y tomorrow.
Terrible team full of losers. Hinch please walk to Houston asap. Dump tork and Torres too
I'm a huge Guardians fan and believe Cleveland is not only the better team but also far more deserving to win this than the Tigers. But I respect your brutal analysis of your team. I feel your pain but the Tiger pay roll is twice that of the Guards and your team just isn't as hungry as mine. Also ,A.J. Hinch, the manager of the Houston Cheaters and now yours is just channeling all that bad karma back to you.
Flaherty is pitching tomorrow? It’s over , he sucks 😩
Guards BALL baby🎉🎉🎉
Tomorrow will be your last Tigers podcast. 😢😢
It's called great pitching vs bad hitting…Cleveland has both but Detroit only has one…guess which one lol
Motor City Kitties getting de-clawed by the Tribe! 😎
Go get Bruce Bochy!
Most inept, unclutch, low baseball IQ lineup I've ever seen. Terrible AB after terrible AB, refuse to change their approach with runners on base and in scoring position. Complete opposite team from the one earlier this season. I fully expect them to go out with a whimper tomorrow, most likely get SO.
Hinch is managing horribly.
Goooo Tribe!
Give 'em tennis rackets.
