Red Sox vs. Yankees AL Wild Card Game 2 Highlights (10/1/25) | MLB Highlights

Here in New York as Yankee fans arrived at the stadium, they are acutely aware of the challenge ahead down one game to none in the best of three against their arch rival from Boston. The Red Sox can seemingly do no wrong but those same fans also know there is no team that has had more success in October than the Yankees. The Red Sox have just owned the Yankees, especially in this ballpark and in clinching games , the Sox have won nine, their last 10 against the Yankees. Alex Cora has a chance now to go six and oh, in clinching games, it is impossible to overstate the pressure that is on aaron Boone on Aaron Judge on this Yankee lineup on carlos Rodon. Since the inception of the wild card series, the team that has won the first game has won all the series. So what do you feel like your team is up against the way this has gone? We’re going to show up tomorrow and I expect us to, to do pretty well. The last man out of the first base dugout hopping on his right leg is carlos Rodon. And the biggest start of his life other than the playoffs last year where he was excellent at times for the Yankees trying to really stand firm and keep this Yankees season going to swing and a miss and a good start for Carlos Rodon. One down here in the first. Here is Trevor Stewart coming off a big night last night. Two for five. Here’s a 22 from Carlos Roans story. The pitch swinging in on this slider down and away. He’s on fire immediately here. A couple of strikeouts. It looks like his entire repertoire is working so far. Lines kicks, the pitch swung on and a fly ball left field can for Cody Beller comes in a couple of steps makes the catch and Rodon off to a good start. Two strikeouts and a soft flag. Yankees Kevin the bat, Bao who has owned the Yankees, he’s pitched so well in this ballpark has a lot on his plate tonight. We’ll see how he looks. You got to feel confident with Bao rolling out there the way he’s pitched against this lineup in this stadium. Freds leads off against Brian swings the first one sky high towards the line in left Jaron Durant is over there and there’s one out on one pitch and judge who had a single off Crochet and Chapman now faces a guy who has really had his number and of the 25 pitchers that he has 20 or more at bats against his lowest average is against this kid two for 21 and a roll over to third Bregman on a couple of hops. Judge is retired who’s Bellinger with two down and the bases empty. No score at Yankee Stadium on hit to the right side, get through for a base hit into right center field. Nate will get it back in first baserunner of the evening, cody Mellinger and that brings up Ben Rice. There’s pitch from swinging. It’s two to Yankees be Rice on pay now. And Rice, everybody did see him last night. He faced dividends immediately and the energy, the buzz in this building. That’s the start you needed after last night, Rodon sets the tone 123 and Ben Rice in the lineup for the first time. This postseason. Bam picks up where he left off in the regular season. Here’s big GJ Carlos Stanton two up Yankees in the first inning. The Bale throws Stanton swings and grounds one to short plays a tough second hops the first in time and the inning is over. But two out thunder for Ben Rice and the Yankees, they lead two nothing, take three pitches and two outs right after your team gives you a two spot. If you carlos on Ben Rice gives you that two spot to left on a changeup strike three and a six up, six down start here for Carlos Rodon, a big test here, Bao in the second inning. Two nothing New York and he takes outside ball four, first walk in the ball game. Here’s Anthony Volpe, two for three, had a home run last night was the only run the Yankees could muster. Here’s Pitt pull down the third. Bregman throws the second for one over the first double play around the horn 543. That’s more like it for Bao. We go to the third inning. Darn Durant, sean Rafaella and nick. So bottom third of the order swings there hits that one hard to center and on a feel that Durant is aboard here now sean against Rodon and another walk for Raffaella 1st and 2nd. Nobody out. And boy, you hate to see that the eight hole hitter who was hitting 249 on the season and that brings up Nick Sogard Sogard was big in that seventh inning. After the long at bat you referenced by Rafaelle, he doubled to right Sogard does square and he bumps it beautifully in front of the Moro. It’s been the first, the bases are loaded for the Red Sox. Rodon hurried the throw, he bounced it. Chisholm leapt up over there, the Red Sox put it in play and they’ve got him loaded such a smart ball play. We’re hoping for it. You never know if you’re going to get it just away. So it’s been swinging the bat that he puts it down. You put pressure on Rodon with the speed he rushes and spikes it. Lucky that didn’t get through Chisholm bases loaded. Nobody out. And the pitch that’s a big, big , big K throw down his fourth of the evening. Now you got a tough hitter here in Trevor’s story with the bases loaded. He struck out his first time, one out bases loaded. Two nothing Yankees pitch to Trevor hit to center field base hit game is time. Durant scores save down behind him. Trevor’s story knocks it with a rocket into center field. Well, he got a slider and it was out on his own little bit, but it’s middle of the plate. Here comes the slider. He comes the change up, stay back. He gets a pitch to handle. Grisham doesn’t have the arm to get Zedan at the plate. Here’s Bregman moving to second with soar one from the on. We’re gonna hit the right side. Jazz do throws on the jumper as the b over his first, a double play right on time. 463 athletically and acrobatically turned by Jazz Chisholm and Anthony volley to limit the damage to just two runs. Nine hole hitter Ryan Mcmahon against Bao hit hard right side base hit. They got a pitch down and in on that left, he looks on and squared it up good start here to the third and that one is on the ground. So smothers, he goes to ST who has to leapfrog over Mcmahon and they get one. Aaron Judge steps up for the second time out to third, his first time up line shot up the middle, gonna get down in front of Raffaella and Judge is not yet hitting for power, but he is getting on base. He is making a change in this spot. We were in with the lefties coming and all the lefties that we have in the bullpen. We felt like we needed to be aggressive, you know, it’s not the perfect scenario, you know. But, uh, like I told him just get ready for the next one, one out in the third inning. And what a spot this becomes for the former Yankee. Justin wilson lost the ball. Both runners advance 2nd and 3rd 1 out. Big opportunity for the Yankees and cody Bellinger. The pitch is popped up shallow left field. Durant coming on christian tags. He will not come home. Durant makes the play and a huge second out for wilson Bellinger slamming that helmet in frustration as he walks into the Yankee dugout. See how they pitch to Ben Rice Rice smoked the first pitch he saw from a two run homer scream , I mean screaming line drive two and one. Wilson throws a shot in the right thats up though. Eaton is there to make the play a little Adam ball at a boy Justin Wilson. We go to the fourth inning, 2 to 222 ball game tap of four. There’s carlos right hand hitting catcher for Boston. Here’s a 32 again and a miss struck him out it fifth strikeout for two down fourth in 22 ball game. Jake trying to stay alive in this wild card series in the top of the fifth score at two. Here’s Sed rafael leading off to a break out. Number six for Don one down. Fifth inning. Here’s the 10 from fastball swing on hit to right field. Here comes judge, it’s slicing away from him, Still hanging with it. He makes the catch two head catch foul territory. Five play by the captain. They had a long way to run and he got it done. 123 in the fifth go. The red Sox new pitcher for Boston third one of the night. It’s the righty Justin sl he, he does it two way back to the tap. The only third time around here for Trent down low ball four chance for the captain here ball four to have base on a big opportunity here for the Yankees with the batting champ in the captain Aaron Judge three for three with a walk against Slayton. Slayton. Be picks bounced up there again. Can’t find it. Grisham takes off head for light. He’s in there. Kyle Pitch gets Grisham in the scoring position. Bring ball hit to left field hanging up Duran down his throw. Christian scores Yankees lead 3 to 2. He got a good jump on it as he do grabbed the ball, hit the ground ball comes out Yankees benefit. It’s 32 New York and the captain strong at bat after a strong at bat to start his postseason. Another one where he just meets the ball. Stephen Matz is coming in. The Yankees are on top and judge is four for four with runners on. This is for Matz, but he runs and pitches ground on the left side. Bregman races over cuts in front of just in time. Very nicely done there to limit the damage. Matt does the job. Pinger retired Yankee Stadium. Carlos Rodon pitching into the sixth inning here. He’s got 23 and four story. Rodon third time through 56, a game and knocks it a three sitting all year long with this guy. Every time. It’s a big moment after big moment, Trevor’s story has been part the 381 ft to left field, fell behind two and zero. He got the fastball up in the zone. He didn’t miss it. This has been Trevor’s story now pretty much since June 1st for this team swing. Here’s Bregman that’s high to Bregman and Rodon frustrated perhaps after giving up that shot to ST takes a few laps around the mound. Here comes, here comes Aaron Boone right now. He’s asking carlos Rodon and there was some purpose of that conversation. Aaron Boone basically saying, let’s go and leaves carlos Rodon in this game. Swing on, popped up playable infield. This will be Ben Rice. Yielding to Jazz makes a two hand catch and there’s one down , there’s that exhale. You have a mound visit. Aaron Boone comes out. Sterley talks to carlos Rodon. There’s one out on the board. He can resettle. It’s the runner at first, one out, one out. Pitas ground ball at third Mcmahon backhand throws the second for one over the third. That play. Yes, sir. 543. And that’ll do it. Base hit for Ben Rice to get the Yankees going here in the sixth , the broken bat squier up the third base line. There’s Jazz Chisholm, the swing and a miss. He got him awesome fastball 96 bottom of the zone strikeout for Metz’s first two outs here in the sixth one and one for will hit the other way. Left field base hit for austin Wells comes with two outs. Rice moves over the second and Volpe’s expecting alex score to come out right off. He does. He’s bringing in zack Kelly given up three homers to right and a near 300 batting average. Here’s the payoff pitch is a sinker at 97. Nate Eaton to lead it off for the Red Sox and Durant and Sedan Cruz is up in the pen. Rodon will start the seventh inning and Nate takes ball four. That’s not even close. That is awful from Rodon and a huge gift for the Red Sox and decision time for Aaron Boone, although it is left on left with Durant losing control inside seven straight out of the zone. You figure someone’s got to get out there and chat with Rodon. This is not the time for this 33 game. Go ahead, run at second. Here’s the pitch and it is inside, it hits him. Well, Durant is plunked on the arm and now here we go again with sedan coming up, aaron Boone will at last go to the bullpen and he will be scrutinized for that too. I mean, Rodon is on the mound and he was not sharp at all in the seventh inning and Cruz is the next pitcher for the New York Yankees in a difficult spot to inherit. Eduardo said assumption is that Raffaello will put some pressure on him and lay a bunt down to the shortstop. Looked like a former shortstop the way he reacted. That’s a big play, a horrible bunt by one out. That’s a much needed out here. So guard had a big hit last night two on one out. Now the pitch swung on fly ball left center field can of corn for Bellinger settles under presenting himself as the cut off man. He gets it back in on one hop and there’s 20, this is going to be attack of Yoshida. This guy comes off the bench yesterday and drove in two runs. A little left hand hitter. He got the job done last night. Runners go pitch hit on the ground right side just died, gets up, throws off. There’s one up and it gets away from rice. The runner at third, he holds and the bases are loaded and Eden kept coming around third. The Red Sox had a chance to tie the game almost rippling mistake by Chisholm but they’re loaded up for Trevor ST Chisholm just saved two runs. That was an awesome play. And now the man who tied the game his last time who drove in two runs his first time. Trevor story comes up with the bases loaded. Story sent one high and deep to center field. Grisham on the track is there to make the play and look at Fernando Cruz. Cruz threw his hat around, he’s screaming coming off the mound and Trevor just missed a grand slam. Goodness gracious. We go to the seventh inning stretch at Yankee Stadium tied at three. Whitlock by the way. Second, former Yankee, we’ve seen Whitlock, a former Yankee farmhand rule five guy. Red Sox brought him in to become one of the best relievers in baseball. Grisham zero for two, a walk and a strikeout making a hard turn, dig it for a second. He’s gonna have to hurry. Pet first line. He’s in Trent Gresham with one out the go ahead run at second base for the Yankees in this 33 game. Here’s judge four, the 12th home run against Whitlock three, call , one of the corner is gone and they’re two away for Bellinger and a big chance for aaron Judge two down 12 high fly in the right field. It is going to hang up. Eaton is underneath it. He is there, he makes the play and the inning is over. Whitlock works around the double. He strikes out. Judge gets Bellinger. Now, Devin Williams looks to pick up the mantle against 34 and five. Bregman 32. Bregman swing and tries one to the left field sinking down. That’s ahead and Bellinger plays it on one hop. It almost shot past him, Bregman and he is the go ahead run. Nathaniel Lowe. He’s hitting for Rome Gonzalez swinging hits it right back to Devin step and throw the double play. Good play by Devin Williams. He waited for Bey to get re through a strike there but he turned it over and there’s two down to the plate and a picking and a back and it takes up the on deck hitter swing and a miss and getting hit by the flying back was Nate Eaton. He went down in a heat inning over Devin Williams walks slowly up well done. Quick two outs brings up Jazz Chisholm. He is two for four against Whitlock inside a four. Jazz works a walk with two outs here in the eighth inning and the game that will bring up Austin Wells Wells zero for two with a strikeout. 32 pitch. Jazz runs pitch on pick up. Yes, coming around third no high , yes. Coming down the line. Here’s the throw of the play Hels. He is in the, hey, the Yankees have to lead. It’s 43 New York Jazz TSOL on the get up, Austin Wells, delivering a line drive down the right field line scoring from first Jazz scores all the way from first. Now, ricochet cost Eaton and his strong arm. A potential play. Big blow from austin Wells hit. They have a base hit, they blew it by the shortstop in the left field. Keep this inning alive. Inside ball four A is loaded. He has been locked down this half. Eduardo has talked about it for the entire month of September and here comes alex Cora. It’s still a one run game, but they are loaded right now for Trent Grisha and it is on the ground in the second. Sos got it. He throw to first in time and the inning is over. The Yankees do take the lead but that’s guts from Peyton to right there. They’re going to go to Will Abreu to pinch hit here against the closer be Sox got an insurance run against him last night in the ninth inning and they need one desperately to tie this game here. 3 to 2 pitch swing and a 97 mile an hour heat to strike out. Will, you’re a brave, he got to throw a strike and he did Yankees two outs away from forcing a deciding game three tomorrow, here’s Durant with one down in the night. Now, 98 back to back punchouts one out away from forcing a game three. Here’s Raphaella Edard has faced Rafaelle Rafaella zero for two red ball right center field going back to back victory for the New York Yankees 43 in this season continues. There’ll be a deciding game here at the stadium tomorrow. 43 wins play by the Yankees. They stay alive.

  1. Trevor Cruz pumping his chest over a very near HR miss? That’s cool for him that RS didn’t take him yard but might have expected him to be a big more somber.

  2. The Yankees have to dump that moronic whistle after each strikeout. I don't care how much money they're paying you. You're the New York Yankees, not the Savannah Bananas.

  3. Yankees at home and the Mystique continues…It’s time the Yankee Ghosts of the old days come out. But this isn’t the old stadium that was built over horse shoes and the stables. It’s time these young kids in Pinstripes start making history….

  4. Boston's Third Base Coach should be fired if the Red Sox Dont win Game 3 Why would you not send the guy with 2 outs on a wild throw while the hitter dove for 1st Base Its risk or go home time and Boston Game 3 maybe the last game of the 2025 Season If so you got no body to blame but the 3rd Base Coach
