  11. Talk about having absolutely zero understanding of ones market. Teams did not have cap space. He could have easily got a good deal from the Sixers. You had a solid run on a terrible team where you could do whatever you wanted, that won’t get you paid in todays NBA, look at Cam Thomas. I’m all for betting on yourself, but I can’t imagine someone is going to pay this guy what he wants next season because he won’t put up the same numbers.

Guys like Giddey and Kuminga did too but they can still get paid because they at least do have intrigue and future value as a potential co-star type guy maybe. A guy like Grimes….he’s the kind of player who has misread, he and his representation….the second apron world is a totally different world.

  16. And what was the counter offer? Because we have shams who is going off of what our FO has leaked and Grimes agent who is saying otherwise. So let’s hear exactly what was counter offered. If it was 10 million a year and we wouldn’t budge and go to 16 million that’s fucked and that’s a problem and that’s an issue with ownership

  17. It really just goes to show neither side was really serious, as u/Science4me12 said, in making this work. There was no true effort in making it happen. What is funny is he was the one seen as the most likely to sign initially of the four restricted guys.

Cam Thomas had 0 traction around the league, Ty Jerome was one of the best bench this year and signed for 9M/y, Jazz had to PAY to get rid of Sexton, GTJ had a great year and great playoffs and was signed to a barely minimum, THJ went from a MLE salary to a minimum, Clarkson and Smart were buyout players and signed for a barely minimum too. I’d say Morey is 100% right in not overpaying a bench roleplayer in a 18~25M/y contract. The guards market was trash this season, and it doesn’t seem to get better, we have VJ and McCain to play the same role as Grimes, so at the end of the day Grimes was nothing more than an asset in a trade, if his salary makes his value drop then there’s no reason to enter the first apron for him

  26. Bonehead move. The sixers have no incentive to play him heavy minutes now. He should have at least signed a 1 year deal without a no trade clause.
