NHL Preseason Highlights | Penguins vs. Sabres – October 1, 2025

We are set to go and away we go. Preseason action here at Keybank Center. Glad you could join us. Sabres from left to right in behind the Penguins goal with it. Protects that puck all the way to the near side. Now Alex Tuck speaking of puck protection on his backhand. Number 89. Dolene winds up and fires that one off the glass. Clean pass and the Sabres are on their way onto the offense and there’s the first roll to the front of the net. Britney came into the NHL as a guy you knew could score goals. Sabres looking to do that here with a quick shot and good save there made by COVID. And the Sabres and Penguins are still scoreless here as Loopin will hold directed towards some traffic towards him. Angs go corner to corner now up to center ice. Hollander right side trying to lean that puck towards net. He does but a blue paint. Quick pass and Bryson gets it up near center. That goes off a Penguin skate into the corner. Missing on the play and the Penguins back after it. Matt Dumba the veteran. Bryson at center. lost the handle on that just a little bit, but the Penguins will pass out of reach on a potential quick counter. Philip Thomasino. Puck comes to the front of the net. Lucin covers up with a bit of a crowd there, but nothing that he can’t work around. Stuck out the far side. You see the work down low here. Penguin just going to throw it to the front. Bounces off the men in front and then comes to the left side of the net. Luca does a nice job making the initial save but instantly finding. But you look Don creating a lot of havoc. Big man hard to handle. Eight minutes remaining in this opening period. No score on the board yet. That shot almost snuck through, but it comes back to Ryan Johnson. Take advantage of it here. You see here Dolan doing some nice work along the wall. He’s going to feed. You see Pittsburgh. Everything is in the outside. It’s all in the perimeter. The Sabres doing a great job taking the middle of the ice. Not allowing that pass. Goender comes up with a huge save when need be, but defensively to stay tight, not chasing. 39 block shots in their first four games. And then Penguins with 24 seconds left in their man advantage. No score in the game. 235 to go in the period. Lukan in another stop. Pittsburgh’s been given some room up top and the Sabres trusting Lucin to make the save but that one slides through as Thomas Cena went to the front of the net and after a couple of blasts are stopped by Lucin and he finds a hole to slide it underneath and the Pittsburgh Penguins are first on the board here. Keep an eye on 26 in front of the net is going to be the guy I think ends up getting this goal. But hey, good positioning here right there. Able to stand in front of the net and you see from the left side of your screen, Raz 26 comes flying in and Nor trying to tie him up there, gets a hold of his stick, but the good pressure came down hard on it. Got the opportunity. River Falls, Wisconsin native played in the American League last year. Had 19 goals. Tristan Braz able to get the first one. Savers might have a chance to get it back here. Delay penalty scores. That’s the talent you’re going to see from number nine. Norris fights through the delayed penalty call and ties the game at one. You go out, you attack, and you sit back and there’s Krebs. Nice job just feeding him. There was the penalty that was going to be called, but nice job by Norris maintaining composure, able to get back up to his feet and make the play. Here it is. There’s the trip. Get back up to his feet. goes to the back hand and puts it in the net just a few seconds after the Savers give up the first one. That bank pass almost swung the savers off on a nice clean push for Dan Ford who has it now at the side of the net and that one stopped by Sheiloff a lot of things and Koug and Quinn they get to those soft spots these pucks are going to be finding them they’re going to get plenty of opportunity going to create free pucks so these guys have to beat off that read off its in front one chance two chances Mike, your Western New York GMC dealers. We are professional grade. Unless of course Razer, you get any breaking news on the bench. I know everything, trust me. Yeah. And we will turn it over at the Savers line and MKA with Achari breathing down his neck. Achari comes underneath with a shot and Gorgv with the glove save. And not really seeing too much action until right here. And Aari just going to take this one to the net. I’m going to flip the shot. But you see a nice job there keeping his feet on the post, keeping himself north of the goal line here. See him come across, get skate post to post, and able to handle it. He’s done a nice job of handling the puck. There’s not really too many rebounds in there. Trying to keep the Penguins at bay here before the penalty call is made. Gorg with a save. No possession. Andell again up high. Fire circle shot scores. A blast gets through Gorgv. Dumbo with a bomb. second shot with that kind of strength behind into the game. This one puts Pittsburgh up two to one. The extra man out there on the delayed penalty. Two guys stacked up in front here. And here this lane opens up. That’s exactly what you do as a D. You let it go. You let the goalender take it. And I think G might have misjudged that one. It was right up underneath the bar. Tage Thompson near circle cross ice off the boards taken by Norris. He’s got some room if he wants to creep in. instead. Here’s Thompson and another glove save by Sheilos. Takes a shot. There’s Norris doing a nice job right here. He’s just going to wait for things to open up. Zucker no look pass. You see Tage just takes that extra second. Pittsburgh with 10 seconds. Work it down low. Trying to play at the post. It comes back to the near side and it’s up and in for a Pittsburgh 3 to one lead in this hockey game. That might be Avery Hayes that’s going to get the goal. It is Dan. You are 100% right there. Take a look at this. They’re working the top side then drop it down to the goal line and first opportunity is missed. But the puck is laying there and I don’t think anybody really realized by the looks of it they they did not move that it was still laying there. And see Timonss trying to get to it. Malenstein coming in the backside but just a little too late there. And see this big stretch right there. But when Gerv got stretched out like that, you’re you’re locked. There’s nothing. Norris looking to the far post. Krebs is down low along with Tate Thompson right now who’s behind the Pittsburgh net. Thompson side of the goal. Sends it in front. Thompson to Norris who buries it and it’s a 3-2 game. Savers within one with 1531 to go here in the third. Now we got a young group of guys when they spend time in their zone defensively, they’re going to start to break down. They’re going to start to chase. And this is where Josh Norris ables to get that soft spot, gets his body between him and the defender. And he’s one-on-one with the goalender. And this great pass here by Chase Thompson Norris up and over the glove here into the net to get the Savers within one goal here with quick upt accurate with that pass. Hits Malenstein who walks out, jams away at it, and the puck pops off to the right of the Penguins goal. Dumba and Shay able to play it ahead. One-on-one. Gerv won’t make the stop here on Kovenan and the Penguins extend the lead with 959 to go in the third. It’s four to two. There’s the long pass side. Just gets body position on Zucker there and he’s able to take this puck to the middle of the ice. You got both on the other side and he gets in behind and you see everybody’s got the chase on right there. Whole idea is there you got to keep the opposition between Buffalo from their own end will get to center and now to the blue line. Dene all the way in to the net scores. [Applause] [Music] The captain put his team on his shoulders there with a power play goal. though takes charge and he’s the best at getting it up the ice and getting into the zone. But you see a big mistake there by the Pittsburgh Penguins just allowing that to open that D’s over on the far side and they didn’t tie play him tight in the middle. Somebody’s you got to get a little better than that on a guy like Dene or he’s going to make his way to where he wants to go and that’s exactly what he was able to do. Feed the goalender on the blocker side. two pass and chip off the boards and out. No chance at the empty net yet for Pittsburgh as the Savers Alex Tuck turns it up ice and it turns it over. Now the Penguins have a shot at it and they don’t miss to make it 53 with that empty net goal from Hollander. That caused them a little trouble. Here’s Alex Tuck trying to go through up through the middle through two guys and that led to this turnover and then bang. got a little bit too much attention from the Penguins players. Over came Alex Tuck. This clock’s just going to tick away to end this game. Conversation between the teams, but it’s a 5-3 final razor for the Penguins. [Music]

Filip Hollander and Matthew Dumba tallied a goal and an assist each, and Arturs Silovs made 27 saves as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Buffalo Sabres 5-3.
