Jaxson Dart on Preparing For First Road Start | New York Giants

How are you how are you feeling coming out of that game? Physically. Feel good. Excited for for this week. What are you most looking forward to just improving from your first start to the second start after looking at the film with coaches? Um a little bit of everything. Um obviously um you know I think like expectationwise I thought that I was going to you know I think you just have the thought that you’re going to execute at the highest level and you’re going to do this and do that. And I felt like there’s a few things that um yeah I could have cleaned up and it was good to see that on tape and and definitely you know trying to implement you know things that I didn’t play to my best ability at and and just try to correct those things. The Saints the Saints were obviously in the uh quarterback market in the uh draft too. What was your uh pre-draft stuff with them? Did you have a private a visit 30? What what was your contact with the Saints? Yeah, met with them uh multiple times. Um you know, Coach Moore was great. Um Coach Nus was was great, too. So, um you definitely had a good relationship with them, you know, during the whole process. And um yeah, excited to to be on the field. And is there any chip on your shoulder that they hit you at nine before the Giants had a chance to? I think that there’s always a chip on your shoulder um anytime that, you know, something like that happens. Um, but yeah, I’m just going to go out there and play it to my, you know, as hard as I can. When you’re sitting there at half night and they’re on the clock, did you think you might get a call? Did you have any inkling one way or the other? Yeah, I felt like my visit with them went good. Um, so, you know, you you kind of have thoughts in your head during the draft of, you know, what options are are really realistic and I definitely felt like that was a place that, you know, could have panned out. Um, but, you know, things didn’t work that work out that way. Now that you’re here, how how do you think your experience has gotten so far with the Giants? I love it here. I love it here. Uh this isn’t there’s not a place that I’d rather be. Um you know, I love just, you know, how passionate people are here outside of the facility within the facility and um I like kind of just like the attitude, you know, the the East Coasters have and um it’s a lot of fun. So um I’ve loved it. What stood out on today that you want to improve on when you watch? Um, I think just, you know, be a little bit cleaner with my footwork, you know, in the pocket. Uh, be a little, you know, just be a little quicker in my progressions maybe and, um, there’s definitely, you know, a few sacks that, you know, I felt like I could have got the ball out of my hand and probably just thrown away. So, um, you know, those are kind of things that stood out to me. How quickly did you have to go from being bummed about Malik’s injury to sort of moving to what life’s going to be like after him? And what do you think it’s going to be like now having to not having Malik out there? Yeah, well, you definitely can’t, you know, just replace a player like that. I mean, he’s he’s one of one, you know, just his talent and his ability. But, um, you know, we got a lot of good guys on our team and, um, it was definitely really hard, you know, I think it’s hard, you know, just when you see somebody that you really respect, you have, you know, really good friendship and and all that, you know, go down and, um, you know, during the game, it definitely, you know, hit us emotionally just as a as a team. So, um, you know, our prayers are with him and, you know, we’re constantly just trying to look after him and, uh, during this time, um, you know, but we got a lot of good guys and, um, guys who are going to be willing to step up and, you know, that they have to step up. So, um, yeah, just, you know, going into this next game just trying to get on the same page with everybody and, um, being able to execute the highest level. D, do you play many domes in college? I play a lot. Any mini dome stadiums in college? Yeah. Yeah, I do. Well, can you lean on that experience going into the Super Bowl or is this a whole different experience to kind of prepare for that? I mean, you know, every college has an indoor facility, too. So, you know, a lot of practices, you know, especially at Miss, you know, throwing in there and then had, you know, several games where I played indoors, especially bowl games. So, um, you know, the the ball comes out better, um, in in those environments. So, just excited for it. As far as the crowd though, how is that kind of like different as far as compared to like outdoor for you at least? I mean, I feel like I played, you know, in the SEC, so um I’ve played in a lot of, you know, really loud places. Obviously, you know, this one that we’re walking into is, you know, notoriously, you know, one of the loudest in the league. So, we got to definitely be prepared and have to communicate at the best of our ability. We try to do a really good job in practice of, you know, creating sound and um not all the time can you implement exactly what it’s going to be like, but you just try to prepare that way. was how did you feel the day after the game and uh did you go back when you went back and looked did you think okay there’s some spots where maybe I shouldn’t take this hit or how how did you sort of look at that afterwards? Um I felt like you know really just you know some of the sacks I took were kind of the biggest ones hit wise that I felt like I could have avoided. Um I felt like in the open field a lot of them were on third down so you know I’m not going to slide before the sticks. I’m going to try to get the first down. So, you know, I don’t really I don’t really regret any of those decisions that I made. What about the uh the stiff arm at the end of that long run? Yeah, maybe that’s not the smartest with my throne hand. Um but, you know, I didn’t really like the way he was looking at me. So, what was your physical recovery like the last couple days? Like, how different was it compared to other weeks? I mean, I ran the ball a lot in college. So, um there was definitely times in college where my body, you know, felt it after games. And uh I think anytime you’re just it’s just football, so you’re not always going to feel 100%, you know, after the game, but you know, we have a really good training staff here. Um you know, we have a lot of, you know, assets that we can use to, you know, make sure our bodies are ready for next week. So, um you know, these these last few days have been, you know, really crucial for me and and, you know, making sure that I’m on the right track and and feeling 100% for for Sunday. What about the the tape on and now you got this the the tights on? like just is that something you’re just managing or Yeah, I mean I always wear, you know, compression sleeves, you know, on my legs and whatnot. So, you know, that hasn’t really changed anything. Um, but yeah, I’ll be good to go. What have the last few days been like for you just in life, you know, just after that game and a lot of focus on you and attention. How how have you handled that? Yeah, it was good to, you know, have my family here. So, you know, it was fun to spend a little bit of time with them. Um, obviously it’s a better feeling walking out each week to a win. Um, so, you know, I feel like that was good for the locker room and for the guys. Um, but at the same time, it was just one game, so we got a long season and, um, that’s just kind of how I view it. You know, don’t make it anything bigger than what it is. It was just one game. And, um, you know, our mindset has to be to to win every game that we play. So, how do you make it two games? Just, you know, have the same mindset, you know, each and every week. You know, we got to be able to have, you know, the competitive mindset. um you know to expect to win and you know I think just try to create situations where you know maybe we face a little bit of adversity in practice um and just go through that but I think it’s really just the habits you try to create each and every day to you know build that momentum momentum um and being able to you know if you make a mistake clean it up on the very next play and and get things right. Jackson, some of the guys last week were saying, you know, just getting to know how you like to prepare for a game. You know, some some of the receivers were talking about, you know, your calls that you got, you know, you called that night, hey, what do you think about this? Um, I’m curious that after Sunday, did it kind of validate your preparation going into week two? Do you think that the guys now expect what they saw from you last week rather than wondering what they’re going to get from you last week? Yeah, I think that it was just, you know, it was a good week for us to kind of get used to how, you know, everybody on the offensive side uh prepares and communicates with one another. And, you know, that’s one thing that I really take, you know, accountability for is making sure that everybody’s on the exact same page of really just trying to see the vision and see from my perspective and I want to see from their perspective. So it’s constant communication throughout the day and just from watching film and um you know I think that you know we have a lot of really mature guys who prepare the right way. So um you know it’s definitely um you know good spot to be in when we can communicate. What’s your relationship like with Theo and what kind of confidence do you have? Yeah, I love Theo. Um you know he’s he’s a stud. He’s a guy that comes to work every single day and um you know works at his craft you know very diligently and consistently. So, you know, when you see a guy like that, you definitely have a ton of respect for him and we build a really good, you know, relationship off the field as well. So, um, you know, I’m just excited for him and I’s, you know, relationship to continue to grow and, uh, he’s going to make a lot of really big plays for us this year. What was your phone, what was your phone like after the game and like what have these last few days been like in in handling all the other stuff that that comes with it? Um, I try to just stay off of it. I mean, like I said, my my parents were in town, so um I was able to just spend time with them and I think that was really just my focus and uh you know, when when you’re when you’re a long way from home and you don’t really get to see them a lot, it’s it’s good to have them. So, uh haven’t really, you know, checked it that much to be honest. Jackson, for you, how do you balance carrying over the momentum of the first win for the team into the next game with staying sharp and focused on the next game? Yeah, I mean like I said like it was just one game. You know, we have to, you know, our expectation and thought process is to win every game that we step in. So, you can’t make it anything bigger than what it is. And you got to prepare the right way. And, uh, you know, I think that’s kind of been, you know, my message to everybody in the locker room, like, you know, we got to come to compete every single day.
