Mike Vrabel Talks Buffalo Prep & Support for Terrell Williams | New England Patriots

[Music] Welcome back to Patriots All Access. Time to sit down, talk with Coach Vable. He joins me now. Complimentary football, the story in the Panthers game. They got to get you excited all three. Yeah, that looked pretty good. I mean, that’s I think that’s the idea. That’s the plan. And uh we created field position. We got explosive plays offensively and special teams. Uh after the first drive, we settled down defensively, got some some big stops and fourth down stops and you know, really they got to midfield. We forced them to punt and uh we did a nice job. All right. Football’s obviously results based business. You’re in it for work. Um it’s also the human element of it. Terrell Williams, your close friend. Um you had the news last Friday. I saw the Teong T-shirts in pregame. Uh awesome touch. It’s it’s the human element now. We got to get him right. Right. Well, we we do and obviously uh that’s his focus right now is is committing to that and then um you know we have a job to do here uh which is to prepare and then prepare to win and then ultimately win. Um and and both of those things can happen at the same time. So, you know, Terrell means a great deal to to us as a team. There’s a lot of coaches here, a lot of players here. you know, me personally, uh, the history that we’ve had, the job that he’s done, uh, for us, uh, in in Tennessee or here. And so, uh, you know, we we want to invest in people. We want to build a program. Um, whether that’s coaching staff, our players, training room, operations, all every everything we do, we want to build a sense of community and and TE’s a big part of that. That’s a big part of part of your outreach to everybody here. Treat everybody the right way. Well, you treat them the way you treat them you treat them the way they treat the team, right? And I think that that’s, you know, we don’t treat everybody great. We treat them the way they treat the team. And and if the the group that we have in the video department or the group that we have in uh the cafeteria, I mean, those people all treat the team very well. Or somebody that’s in it that busting their butt. Like, we need to be able to to reward those people and and they are part of our team. They’re they’re critical to our success. All right. The football world stops on Sunday night. Sunday Night Football, Buffalo. That place is going to be insane. You’re the only show in town, national spotlight. You got to love being in that spot, right? Yeah. And and we’re going to prepare for that. And that’ll be a huge key for us is, you know, to be able to handle the the road environment. And it’ll be a great test for us. I know that we’ll be excited and and we are we’re ready, you know, as we work through here in the next few days to uh to to put our best product out there. All right. Uh Josh Allen. Um if you played today, he’d actually be bigger than you probably. He’s a great talent. He’s a unicorn. How would how would you defend him as a player? Well, I I thank God I don’t have to. Yeah. Yeah. You know, we’re going to need all 11. And um you know, you have to to be able to um you know, be sound. I If you leave guys open, he’s going to find them. I mean, it’s not that he doesn’t want to throw the football. He’s great. I mean, people say keep him in third and short. He’s tough in third. Yeah, they’re moving the ball down the field. uh third downs and and again they’re running the football extremely well. Uh he he extends so much. He’s he’s done a great job of taking care of the football and understanding that he’s going to have his opportunities to throw for yards and throw touchdowns. He’s done a great job. They got one turnover in four games and you know that’s a big reason why they are where they are. So uh it’ll be a huge challenge. He’s playing at at a very high level right now. All right, time now for the Sports Illustrated ticket question of the week comes from Tony K. you guys protected the football in this game on offense and the school thought out there is like, oh, he’s going to do this to this guy or that guy and you’re going to punish maybe Raandre. You chose to go the other way. Why did you do that? Well, I mean, this we only got so many guys. We got three backs on the active roster. We need all three of them. Um, certainly need his skill set and uh again, we just have to we had to put the fire out and we got to continue to do that. That’ll be paramount that we take care of the ball. Um but but we believe in everybody that’s here, you know, we just have to make sure that we’re all doing the things that that are um critical to their jobs. It’s one of the best players on offense. Plus, if you make mistakes, I mean, everybody makes mistakes, too. Yeah. I mean, the the turnovers, again, if if the the ball is is loose, you know, we we have to make sure that that that stops. And again, we don’t want to run through the hole with uh or out in open field with two hands and just barreling down. We have to be able to make people miss and and create, you know, yards after contact, yards after the catch. Um, but then again, uh, making sure that now we got two on it in traffic, and that that we got two two hands on it in traffic.
