  6. Verbeek must of wanted the extra year. If he signed this year he can do 8 year contract, if it was next year 7 year contract due to new CBA rule. Great move.

    Bit of a risk considering it’s just one good season so far but I’m not sure there’s ANY reason to believe anything Lacombe did last year was a fluke. A serious bright spot on a team full of inconsistency and bad play.

    Wild to think after the headline of the ducks having 4 CHL defenseman of the year (minty, Zellweger, Luneau, Hinds), that Lacombe comes out of nowhere to be our 1D of the future. I remember wondering if we would regret Thrun getting away and “settling” for Lacombe 😆

  21. We’re starting to see the method to Verbeek’s madness.

    I recall seeing a video saying that LaCombe was a 6 million per year player, so this kind of deal really tells you how Verbeek sees him.

    I don’t know about everyone else but at the end of last season, I did start getting the feeling he is our next Scott Niedermayer.

  24. Always had trouble figuring out the comps of what he could be. Once Kreider said “Werenski elite” it made so much sense and got me hyped. Glad to have him locked in.

  26. Verbeek setting the tone for the start of the season. He’s putting all those young kids who are going to be RFAs at the end of the season on notice. Make a jump and show you can play in the NHL (Verbeek’s way) and we will pay you. If not, prepare for a hard nose negotiation.

  27. I’ve shit on Verbeek for weeks, but getting this kid locked up for this long and this cheap (relatively speaking based on his trajectory and the cap increasing) is a phenomenal move. Great news.

  30. I don’t really get the value difference on LaCombe versus McTavish; can someone explain why LaCombe was given so much more and why Verbeek was fast on LaCombe and slow on McTavish?

  32. I think GMPV knew the price was going to go up quickly after the Luke Hughes 7 x 9 mill contract. Smart move to get this done now, saves us in the long run and one less RFA to get done next summer.

  33. Knew he was gonna get around 9 as soon as Luke hughes got 9. Lacombe had more goals and a better plus minus on a way shittier team last year. Pumped hes a duck for another 9 years ( contract doesnt start till next year ). With the cap going up this contract and McTavish’s are gonna look real good on the back end.
