[BREAKING] DALLAS COWBOYS HIT ROCK BOTTOM WITH 4 SACKS AS GRANDERSON EMERGES AS TOP TRADE TARGET NOW
Back here on HQ, week five in the NFL brings us the Cowboys and the Jets. The Jets trying to pick up their first win of the season. They are 0 and4 for the first time since 2020. Got to turn things around on a short week after losing to the Dolphins on Monday Night Football. And meanwhile, the Cowboys are coming off of a tie with the Packers. Dak though is kind of looking like an MVP, but the Cowboys defense certainly is not doing him any favors at all. It is all going down on Sunday at 1 p.m. Eastern. All right, let’s preview this matchup. And we have the guys Pete Prrisco. I got your name right actually. Oh my gosh, what’s going on today? Weird to say. Words are hard. I know. And Lay Doo. We’re going to preview this matchup, guys. Starting with, of course, the Jets because they are looking for their first win of the season. I know there’s no no moral victories, Lij. But three of those four losses were kind of tight games, right? But they were come from behind. Yeah. Okay. But still, they weren’t like completely out of it. How do you like their chances here to pick up that first win of the season against this Cowboys defense? It’s not very good. Yeah, but the Jets defense has hasn’t been good either. And also the Cowboys offense has been real explosive. That’s been the issue when you talk about the the Jets like their defense has really struggled. And even without CD Lamb, we saw Dak Prescott with George Pickkins and the rest of the receivers, uh, Turpin out there as well and Tolbert make plays down the field. The one thing that I really loved about Brian Shottenheimimer and Dak Prescott was that last week versus the Green Bay Packers, they stayed ahead of the chains, right? The old the whole playbook opens up for you when you’re in second and three or or third and three or four. So, they were able to run the ball, actually take some shots down the field. And the thing about Dak, he played in such good rhythm, Pete, that Michael Parson’s rush was null and void. He had no chance to get to Dak Prescott. And I think they have to continue to do that. They have some issues on the offensive line, some guys banged up, but even with the backup, they were able to move guys off the line of scrimmage and run the ball. That’s kind of been an Achilles heels for the Jets, right? They have not been able to tackle well, and they’ve been getting pushed around in the trenches. So, when I look at this game, yes, the Jets have a chance because the Cowboys defense has been awful as well, but how explosive that Cowboys offense is, I don’t know if the Jets offense can keep up with them. This game’s going to be fun to watch cuz there’s going to be a lot of point scoring. Don’t get stink. I mean, they’re really bad. And and you mentioned the Cowboys offense. And I think the Cowboys offense, they’re they might be down three offensive linemen this week. There’s a chance there’s a chance the left tackle could be out as well. So So when you look at that, that’s going to be a real challenge for them. Although the backups that played last week on the interior did a nice job. So um I’m more concerned about the Jets. Let’s be real. The Jets are a major disappointment. They don’t tackle, like you said, worst tackling team in the league. The effort isn’t great all the time. They commit a ton of penalties. Uh this is supposed to be a good dominant physical defense. It’s not even close to that. On the other side of the ball, they can run the ball, which you want to do against the Cowboys, particularly if you’re playing against this Dak Prescott. So, I would imagine they’re going to use a lot of the run game to try and keep him off the field and kind of neutralize that offense a little bit. But, I’m telling you what, the Jets defense is so bad right now. And and the only thing worse on the field is the Cowboys defense. Yeah. And the thing is, you talked about the Jets offense and how they are able to establish the run. I would like to see Tanner and string use some more of that play action. We saw that late in the game versus the Miami Dolphins. Justin Fields being able to throw the ball down the field off of play action because you were so effective running the ball. I thought there was times he got too conservative on third and five. He picked up a couple first downs and he ran it again on third and five and then finally get stopped. Like use some of that play action pass because you are so effective running the football. Pete, you said it. Both of these defenses stink, but let’s talk about the one that maybe stinks a little bit more. I don’t know here. We’re talking about the Jets because they have zero takeaways through four games of the season. Is it shocking though when you’re thinking that hey it’s Aaron Glenn he’s your head coach and this is what the defense looks like particularly him because he was such a feisty aggressive tough player when he played in the league and when he was coaching he was a defensive coordinator who was an aggressive defensive coordinator and this group doesn’t play like they’re coached by Aaron Glenn and so is the message not getting home and why is it not getting home and he better make it get home because if not this is going to be a long season for the Jets. I I think sometimes we overvalued and maybe you know maybe I didn’t but you did but overvalued the talent on that defensive side of the ball. I mean look Andre Cisco has been awful on the back end. Uh S Gardner isn’t S Gardner right now. Uh the other corner has been a disaster. Stevens hasn’t played very well. The nickel corner hasn’t played very well. Michael and he’s been a good player for a lot of his career. So and the defensive line, oh they’re going to be dominant up front. No they’re not. I mean Jermaine Johnson’s been out too so that hurts. They don’t have the subsequent debt behind them. Correct. And so it’s been and Quint and Quincy Williams hasn’t played so their defense as well, but they’re just not a very good defense right now, I would expect Dak Prescott, even if his offensive lineman aren’t there to be able to have success against them. Yeah, we saw Tua last week. And the thing is with Tyreek Hill on the field, if you do not put hands on him and disrupt that timing, like Tua throws with such anticipation. Dak was playing like that last week for the Green Bay Packers. So, I can see that if they come out and decide to play some man coverage, Dak knows exactly where to go with the football. We saw this defense have some success the second half when they disguise man and win some more zone. Could they potentially do that to try to throw Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offkilter? I want to touch on something that Pete said and you said, you talked about them not having any turnovers the first four weeks. That’s an effort thing, right? When you turn on the film, the pursuit angles, things that you’re taught since high school never follow the same color. Like, they get beat on that multiple times. I go back to the Bucks game. I believe it was like third and 15. Bucky Irvin takes a a simple pass to the flat and he cuts it back across the field and passes like seven Jet players and picks up a first down. Like never follow the same color. And when you talk about getting fumbles, it’s effort to the football. That’s how you get those fumbles. The Jets are one team that I just scratched my head because there’s so many balls that are on the ground and the defense just never recovers it. We could just go back to Miami last week. There was a couple on the ground. The Jets never recovered them. That comes down to effort. It’s effort to the football. That’s how you get those fumble recoveries and you get the interceptions by being a dominant pass rushing team a lot of times too. You force the quarterback to make bad throws and they’re not that easy. Oh yeah, Will Will McDonald has rushed really well. But again, like you need subsequent rushers. Quinc when Quinton Williams gets double team, Will wins on the end. Who’s the other guy that’s coming around the corner? That’s been the issue. And Will McDonald wasn’t on the field a lot lately, which I didn’t understand. He only played 31 snaps. Makes no sense. It makes no sense. A lot of head scratching moments for the defense. So, we could talk about it all day when it comes to the Jets defense, but I would Spielman for that. Rick, you’re supposed to fix us, man. We’re just messing with you, Rick. Rick hasn’t been here for months and he’s somehow still getting shot today. Hilarious. I love it. Um, let’s talk about Dak again. Kind of talked about how he’s been playing. He leads the league in passing yards. Um, Dak looks fantastic. We saw sort of like vintage Dak running into the end zone there against the Packers. Lee, I hate to say it, but it feels like it’s almost being wasted, right? with a one- win team. It’s unfortunate, right? Because he is playing MVP type football right now and because of one side of the Packers and Cowboys, aka the Micah Parsons Bowl ended in a 40 to40 tie, the second highest scoring tie in NFL history. Dak Prescott and the Dallas offense was good. However, the defense once again letting them down in the second half in overtime. Green Bay scoring on all five possessions. However, despite that, Barry Jones was somehow still proud of his new Michaelless defense. Listen, there is help on the way on defense. More importantly, if you felt it, even though they scored 40 points, our defense improved as that game went along right before your eyes. And we did make some stops. No, no. Can I have your glasses? Yeah. Yeah. My eyes my eyes are not seeing this things, bro. I mean, what is happening here? The Packers scored on every one of their drives after halftime. I mean, this team has been an absolute big play, explosive play civ all season long to this point. They play a very simplistic scheme when you’re talking about zone and man principles. The secondary doesn’t communicate with one another very much. They are not very athletic at linebacker. I’m assuming he’s talking about help is on the way. Meaning my guy De Marvon Overshon is going to be returning to the field which they need desperately because I don’t I don’t know where the improvement came from that he’s talking about late in that football game, but you’re right. Jordan Love had his way with them. So he I’m sorry. I No, I’m really I’m just trying to find the words to say. He said they got some stops. That’s like factually inaccurate because they got zero stops, right? He did say that they got better and there ways to get better while still looking bad because at least people weren’t running with 10 yards of space as they were against the Giants the week before. So, they got a little bit better in that case. But like this is not a winning a defense that you can win with. And it we saw case in point on that weekend because the way that Dak and that offense is playing. Oh, someone brought up a comparison this morning in our meeting. Someone brought up a comparison to Joe Burrow’s season last year. Dak may not set the records. I mean, Joe Burrow had the led the league in passing yards and everything last season and the defense was so bad that they missed out on the playoffs. Maybe Dak isn’t having quite that, but it’s not it’s not that far off. Is there a comparison to be made there, uh, Kmart, about what happened last year for how much we’re seeing how vital Dak is to this team and this offense? Cuz take Dak off of this roster. What are you looking at? um a really because right now what are they their defense is giving up over 400 yards a game like it it they their offense they got the best offense in the NFL and they got the worst defense in the NFL unfortunately to me Jerry kind of reminds me of it’s almost like he’s trying to set this up like he won the breakup between him and Micah and it’s like now he’s talking about like oh we got better as it went on. And it’s almost like the guy breaks up with his girl and I was posting the new girl on social like, “Oh, look. I’m I don’t even miss that old thing.” We We see right through you. But your new girl ugly. Thank you. Thank you for real. Your new girl giving up 420 a game. That’s my new girl. He He did seem after the game he acted like they won when they tied and he acted like Micah Parsons didn’t have much impact in the game when he did. So it it confused me as well. No, absolutely. First of all, Micah had a day. I mean, you look at Micah’s pressure. Micah was getting after him. The the the thing that’s that that bothers you is if you are if you’re Shottenheim, you’re going in that locker room going, “We’re not good enough on this side.” And he’s going, “You’re getting better.” You’re not getting better. And that So, so you’re having you’re having differing voices saying things because Shenheimer knows you can’t win like this. And I fl got to get it fixed. The defense has got to get it fixed. you you can’t continue to do this weekend and weekend. And so when you go, “Oh, no, we got better because we tied with the trade that I made that nobody thought, you know, we got by with one.” It’s so shortsighted and you’re creating, again, you’re creating more distraction and more problem by not being honest about the situation of we got to fix it. And one linebacker ain’t fixing it, y’all. He can’t be honest. Yeah. Because if he’s honest, he’s going to say, “Yeah, clearly.” It’s like the emperor in his new clothes or the emperor’s clothes, whatever. like I gave away our best defensive piece. Sorry. Look, a lot of times they cut away to Matt Eberloose on the sideline and you see him standing there looking at his call sheet and then kind of like looking over his glasses out on the field like I don’t know what the hell to call. Yeah. I really just don’t know what cuz it’s such a simplistic scheme, Fox. I mean, it it really is. And the and these guys are I mean, there’s just basic fundamental breakdowns that are they’re they’re the worst team in the league giving up plus 20 yard explosives. Are they going to get better? Jerry is suggesting they’re getting better. Are they going to because that offense is good enough. They did it without CD Lamb. He’s going to come back. That offense is good enough to make a playoff run this year. Can the defense get better? But they use the schedule. They got winnable games. Look at these games they got coming up. They could win these next two games for sure. And then you’re right in business. The defense can get better, but not better enough is the problem. Like they they’ll improve from where they are. But if they get to middle of the pack, that still to me is not good enough considering their their NFC competition. When you’re trying Yeah. But when you’re trying to climb out of that kind of hole, that’s the kind of work that’s done during that that uh thing that we broadcast in May called the draft. That’s when that work is done. Not right now. You will say this though, you look at that schedule, they can win four of those next six games. That’s what I mean. And then they get CD back. I mean, look, you look at your screen right now. Yeah. You you can you can they could be right in it by the time of their ain’t going to fix the defense, man. and and the point that you made about Jerry’s mixed messages like that’s the thing that’s driving home is like Shanheimer needs to come in there and be like we have to fix this but at the same time the owner of the team is like we’re getting better is he saying when he says help is coming that he might make a trade. I mean people keep talking about that. Is it possible that he’s got a deal to make something up his sleeve? We’ll see. That offense is good enough to take this team somewhere if the defense could play at all for they’re 4-0. There’s never been a more scrutinized 4-0 defending champion in the history of football than this team. But there’s reason for it. They just seem to disappear for halves. They disappeared in the second half offensively against the Rams. Then this past week they complet or excuse me in the first half against the Rams. And then this past week they literally were Jaylen Herz 0 for8 in the second half of their game against Tampa. Their numbers not great. You see the numbers of what they’re allowing. They’re allowing 330 yards a game. The offense hasn’t been a whole lot better. So the question is pretty simple. The way they are playing right now, it has been good enough to win these games. Some of it has come with complimentary football. Some of it candidly has come with a little fluky stuff here and there. You blocking kicks. I know that’s not an accident, but it’s not something you can count on. Do the Rams need to get be the Eagles need to Cowboys Nation. Let’s be honest. The Dallas Cowboys are sitting in a dangerous spot right now. We’ve seen this team put up points. We’ve seen Dak Prescott look more comfortable than ever under Brian Shottenheimer’s leadership. And we’ve even seen young weapons like George Pickkins step into the spotlight with CD Lamb sidelined. But there’s one glaring issue we can’t ignore anymore. This defense is collapsing and the numbers are ugly. Four sacks in four games, 13 quarterback hits, 50 hurries that barely rattled opposing quarterbacks. That’s dead last in the NFL. For a franchise that once prided itself on unleashing chaos up front, we’re now watching quarterbacks stand in clean pockets, completing more than 80% of their throws, piling up over,200 yards and 10 touchdowns against us. It’s embarrassing. And unless something changes, it could sink the Cowboys season before mid-season even arrives. And this is where the conversation shifts to Carl Granderson. Let me tell you something, Cowboys fans. This isn’t a maybe type of move. This is the type of addition that could completely change the trajectory of the season. With the New Orleans Saints, Granderson has quietly become one of the most consistent, durable, and disruptive defensive ends in the league. He’s had seasons with eight sacks, multiple years topping 30 hurries, and he’s proven he can not only create pressure, but actually finish plays. That’s exactly what Dallas has been missing. Because here’s the brutal truth. Pressures don’t matter if you can’t turn them into sacks or force throws. 50 hurries look nice on a stat sheet, but if quarterbacks are still stepping into throws, hitting receivers in stride, and putting up near perfect passer ratings, then the pressure is meaningless. Granderson is different. He’s the kind of pass rusher who collapses pockets, who forces quarterbacks to get uncomfortable, and who makes offensive lines adjust their entire blocking schemes just to deal with him. But that’s not all. Granderson isn’t just a pass rushing specialist. He’s reliable against the run, too. And let’s not sugarcoat this either. The Cowboys have missed 43 tackles this season already. That’s not just a stat. That’s a sign of a defense that’s soft, a defense that doesn’t finish plays and a defense that’s been bleeding extra yardage on the ground. Granderson sets the edge. He forces runs back inside. He plays disciplined football, which is exactly what Dallas has lacked. And by doing that, he makes life easier for the linebackers, for the safeties, for everyone else on the field. His presence would immediately raise the floor of this defense. Now, let’s zoom out and talk about timing because timing is everything. The Saints are in a rebuild. They’re sitting at 0 and3 and they’ve shown they’re willing to move veterans to stockpile picks. That means Carl Granderson could be available right now. Meanwhile, the Cowboys are one and two, staring down the barrel of a brutal schedule and desperately need to fix their defense before it’s too late. This is the window. This is the moment for Jerry Jones and the front office to step up and make a move. Because if they sit on their hands and hope the current group magically figures it out, then they’re basically waving the white flag on the season. Think about it, Cowboys Nation. This offense is built to compete. Dak is making smart decisions. The offensive line is giving him time. The run game is producing with Sanders and Williams. And even with Lamb hurt, the passing attack is dangerous. But none of that matters if the defense can’t hold up. You can’t ask Dak to score 40 points every week just to keep us alive. That’s not sustainable. What’s sustainable is adding proven defensive help. What’s sustainable is giving this team the kind of edge rusher who can tilt games back in Dallas’s favor. And that’s exactly what Granderson brings to the table. I want you to picture it. Javon Clowney rotating in fresh. Granderson setting one edge, young guys like Sam Williams learning in live action, and suddenly this defensive front doesn’t look soft anymore. It looks dangerous again. It looks like the kind of unit that can swing momentum, create turnovers, and let Dak and this offense play with a lead instead of constantly chasing shootouts. This move isn’t just about sacks. It’s about identity. It’s about sending a message to the locker room, to the fans, and to the rest of the league that Dallas isn’t going to roll over and accept mediocrity. It’s about Jerry Jones showing once again that he’ll do whatever it takes to put a contender on the field. And let’s be clear, this roster is close. You fix the pass rush, you clean up the tackling, and suddenly the Cowboys go from one and two with questions everywhere to a team nobody wants to face in November and December. Cowboys Nation, this is the moment to demand action. Do you want to see Jerry Jones pick up that phone and make the call for Carl Granderson? Do you believe that adding him could be the spark that saves this season? Because I do. This team has the talent, the pieces, and the coaching on offense to make noise in the NFC. What they need now is balance. What they need is toughness. What they need is Granderson. Drop your thoughts in the comments. Hit that like button if you agree Dallas can’t sit back anymore. And subscribe to Dallas Game Day for all the latest updates and reactions. Because Cowboys Nation, this season is still alive, but only if the front office acts now. and Carl Granderson could be the exact difference maker we’ve been waiting
The Dallas Cowboys defense is collapsing with only four sacks, and Carl Granderson has become the top trade target to fix it fast.

You guys don't need to make it about Micah. We need to face it, both sides lost in the present. Don't make it sound like Dallas was content with the tie but who went for the tie in the end. Hopefully when we get a few players off IR we can get some consistently.
