Since the 2010–11 season, the Stanley Cup has been awarded to a team with a goalie who played more than 60 regular season games just one time. That was back during the 2011–12 season, when Jonathan Quick led his L.A. Kings to victory, playing 69 times in the regular season and then another 20 playoff games. Otherwise, the Cup-winning goalie accomplished this feat playing anywhere from the mid-30s to upper-50s in games played.

While this topic isn't a new one regarding 37, head coach Scott Arniel was on the Power Play show on NHL Network and was asked about goaltending.

In his answer he did say "I would love to get it under 60".

  1. Glad to hear he’s considering not running Helle as a work horse. Comrie is a capable backup and deserves more games.

  2. I feel like we are going to have to lean heaaavy on helle until we get lowry and samberg back

  3. I was down voted into a black hole suggesting he (Armiel) stop caving to Hellebuyck. He needs to play 55 games tops. Playing 60+ games to lose to inferior teams time and again in the playoffs suggested this should’ve been done 3-4 seasons ago. Only leaf fans care about regular season stats and banners I thought until Hellebuyck groupies started acting like regular season awards means he gets to play as much as he wants while going to Game 7’s in the first round vs lesser teams.
