Uh we’re doing this from the lobby of the hotel I’m staying at for my kids soccer tournament this weekend. So, but I did want to kind of spend about 10 15 minutes talking about uh the game tonight as the Sharks fall 2 to one to the Vegas Golden Knights. We’ll kind of talk about the good um in this game. Misa Dickson Ascarov. We’ll talk about the bad um which is the third period woes and the ugly uh Barkley Goodro Tai Dandra I’m looking at you. Before we though we can continue, do of course want to let you guys know that today’s episode is brought to you by FanDuel. Download the FanDuel app now by visiting FanDuel.com and win $300 in bonus bets if your first $5 bet wins. All right, let’s start with with the good. Um Misa Dickinson both showing flashes tonight. Um, I think Dickinson had the stronger game of the two between Misa um and and and Dickinson. Um, but we’ll start with Misa, right? Who did um didn’t get on the scoreboard, but you saw all those smart hockey IQ plays that are going to make him an NHL player as soon as uh this year, right? um talking about the back checks, um the defensive awareness of being in the right positions at the right times, getting like just kind of reading the plays. Well, you saw all those little plays. While he hasn’t been getting the production, right, I know, right? The the points have not fallen for Dickens for Misa yet, they will come if he continues to play this way, right? Like he’s doing all these little things here um that are positive now. like that production is 100% going to come if he continues to play this way and these again what’s you always say with these young players right if you’re not scoring what else can you do for me is out there on the penalty kill late in the third period um I know they’re trying to push for offense but the fact that they’re putting him out there in that situation right he’s out there in the six on five at the end of the game um they’re putting him in every possible position to succeed and I think so far he is uh Misa has been answering all the questions. Uh Chris Bashka said it on Twitter, but next week’s the big test as you start to see more NHL players in these preseason games, but Mis is doing he’s passing all the tests that are in front of him so far. So, as for Dickinson, I thought Dickens had a really strong game tonight. Um you see a lot of like what makes him so special. Um but again, kind of the details in the defensive zone using his size again, you know, 6′ 3, 205 lbs. um just an absolute monster in in the in his own zone. I thought Dickinson played strong again tonight and you saw more pushing the offense from him. You saw some of the smart plays, right, where it’s just like um there was a play where he has the puck at the point. No, instead of trying to force something, he just kind of kicks it behind the net. Unfortunately, um you know, kicks it back behind the net to try to kind of get the cycle going again. Unfortunately, Vegas just kind of reads the play first, but just smart kind of veteran plays like that from a 19-year-old defenseman. Um I I think Dickinson, again, next week is the big test as you start to see these these preseason games ramp up a little bit, but Dickinson is doing exactly what you want him to do. Um we’ve seen the offensive production from him. We saw some some nice shots on goal from Dickinson tonight. Uh but he’s doing everything you want. And that skating, that skating is so elite. Uh, and that’s going to get him out of a lot of trouble right now while he still kind of figures things out. And you you saw the size and him kind of willing to finish checks as well. Uh, yeah, I think Dickinson continues to play well. Um, other players who I I thought really played well tonight, William looks like William Mewin again. Um, you know, where he’s just every time he’s on the ice, he’s noticeable. And again, you should see William Eklan should be noticeable in a game where it’s basically, you know, the Henderson Golden Knight or Silver Knights. Um, he should be noticeable, but he was noticeable. Uh, had a great feed to Cardwell who was unable to finish. Uh, we’ll talk about Cardwell here in a second, but um, like Ekkin was doing William things. Good to see that he’s back to being William after that scary uh, injury to his wrist this weekend or this summer. So, um, good good just nice little box check for William Ecklan. So, uh, but Ethan Cardwell, um, I thought Cardwell had a a kind of like Eklland where every time he was on the ice, you noticed Cardwell doing things. Uh, he got promoted to a to go play with, uh, Wenberg and Ekkan um at one point. So, good point for in a third period. Really liked Cardwell’s game. And um it’s unfortunate there’s just such a log jam of these bottom six guys because I would I mean we’ll talk about Goodro and Dandria, but I would rather have Ethan Cardwell out there doing Ethan Cardwell things um instead of having to watch Goodro and Dandria do Goodro and Dangria things because I think Cardwell just g is just a more dynamic player. Yes, he doesn’t have the experience of the other two guys, but he’s just a just a much more dynamic player and every time he’s out there, he’s making a positive impact and he could have scored tonight. Probably should have scored. He’s just saving the goals for the regular season, guys. Just, you know, saving them for when he counts. Uh hopefully. But um yeah, I think of those guys like I think those were easily your top performers tonight other than Ascarov. We’ll get to Ascrov here in a minute, but um I I you think those four of the skaters I think were your best ones. Uh I thought also Orv played really well tonight, had a goal as well. Uh just good to see, you know, like with with him and I thought Mukadullan, you can see how that pairing I think is going to be a really effective pairing and it seems like Mukuman is going to be given every opportunity to play these big time minutes that we’ve been kind of waiting for him to play. And um you know with Ferraro and and Liilrin I thought those guys had some some you know they were kind of paired up with the younger guys uh Ferraro with uh Thompson and then Lagrin with Dickinson uh kind of more especially Lagrin was kind of a more support role for for uh for Dickinson. But overall I think the defense played pretty solid tonight. Um, but uh, the offense just couldn’t get anything going, especially in the third period, and we’ll we’ll talk about that here in a minute. But, uh, let’s get to Ascrov here in just a second. We’ll talk about him. I thought he looked super sharp tonight, even though he gave up two goals. I thought Asgrov was looked like he was in mid-season for him already, which is a great sign, uh, for us Sharks fans. So, uh, we’ll get to that here in just one second. The NFL season is here and FanDuel is making sure you’re ready for kickoff for the can’t miss offer. Right now, new customers can bet just $5. If your bet wins, you’ll get $300 in bonus bets to use across the app. Uh I love FanDuel because it fits however you like to bet. So, Ascrov I thought looked super sharp tonight. Uh, which is good, right? You want Ascrov to come in and and win this job, right? We we know that he’s going to get the keys to the car. Uh, but you would like him to kind of come in and play very well. Um, and I I thought he did that tonight. So, um that’s weird. It’s not showing the uh 20. I guess that’s all situation. So, um you know, for for Astro looking at uh his performance on natural static um two goals given up on 29 shots. Expected goals against was 1.64, which is, you know, right around there. Um high danger saves, he was five for five, six of six of mid- danger. It was the low danger long distance shots where he just didn’t see them coming through there. Uh especially that the one on the power play from from Vegas or right after the yeah the one on the power play like the two to1 lead just didn’t really see it coming through. So uh and Vegas they always do a good job of screening but I thought as looked really good. He’s going to give you gray hairs playing the puck but nine times out of 10 it’s going to work out uh in in favor of San Jose. So good good debut from Ascarov tonight. So which is what we’d love to see. Um the bad third period woes continue to crop up for S. And again like I know you don’t have CBRI and Smith and TF and like Skinner like I know it’s it’s it’s you know Ekan and Misa are kind of your only two guys who you project to be in the top six out there. Um, but you can’t take five shot attempts uh in a game that you’re down by a goal for a good chunk of the third period. Five shot attempts at five on five uh by San Jose. I mean, three scoring chances, but uh you you took five shot attempts. So, um not not great there from San Jose. very much mid-season form from from them to uh just have such a uh inability to get the puck on net, right? Uh and and that’s those are the issues that that cropped up last year, right? with all these losses from from the Sharks where they just couldn’t get uh shots on goal uh and couldn’t finish leads or like hold on to leads. But getting three shot like three shots on goal in the third period total while Vegas has 11 despite them being up uh you know by a goal for the last 15 minutes not not a great look and again I know it’s a very AHL heavy roster tonight. Um but not like definitely was uh definitely a bit of a struggle there. So, um, some of the other, you know, like things I thought, uh, just kind of the bad part. I thought B said had a really quiet game tonight, unfortunately. Um, you know, from from him like, uh, we we know he’s going to be playing in the AHL uh, this season, at least to start, but would have been nice to kind of see him step into, you know, kind of uh, you know, just a little bit more noticeable tonight. I thought Egor Sharnes was also extremely quiet tonight as well. Um there was like end of the second, beginning of the third just kind of nowhere to be found from from him. I thought he was extremely quiet tonight and especially when you’re playing with Misa um on that line and you saw that line kind of get like all the lines got jumbled up in the third period uh where um the Sharks unfortunately again not able to get any sort of offense uh going from them. But um I do like I I thought those two players really kind of stood out for me quietwise. Like just not anything there. Um Musty like musty put in a good. I thought he played pretty well tonight. Did have a costly penalty that kind of kill a power play. Uh even I mean the power play was almost over but um having a that slashing penalty. Um but like he was doing like he did a really good really nice job on the um the Orlo goal of getting that screen in front like you saw like anytime Musty was kind of setting up up front the Sharks were usually in a good opportunity to score there. So I still think Musty starts in the AHL but uh I think Musty had a pretty solid night tonight. the ugly um Barkley Goodro and Tidy Andrea and both of them two penalty sign and I know like keep in mind with with with the preseason where officiating is different like they’re going to be very preseason and early in the season you’re going to see officials be very like tickytacky on certain things whatever they’re kind of quote unquote emphasizing for the that year uh they’re going to be very ticky tacky on some of those things. Um but uh I do think that um you can’t have four penalties between those two guys, right? Uh like yes, Goodro set up Cardwell for a really nice uh you know opportunity that Cardwell just wasn’t able to bury uh coming out of the penalty. But like you can’t put that team in that situation, right? Especially for for veterans like Delandria and like Goodra, you cannot put your put the team in those type of situations. Uh I thought that those guy like is just like you can deal with one whether it’s Gadro or Dandria, but having them both be like that. This is like I would rather have again Ethan Cardwell out there doing Ethan Cardwell things and deal with young player mistakes than veterans making those type of mistakes. A firm. So yeah, just tough uh tough night for both Goodro and um yeah, Goodro got a slashing, good elbowing. Deandria. Uh I know that was a like it was, you know, he took somebody with him. Uh but then the hold like you just don’t need to hold there. Like just not a good night from from those guys bottom if you know if you’re in bottom six, right? Cuz your bottom six is is supposed to kind of hold the the four down and they definitely lost the battle tonight. uh for you know um but other than that I mean again tough you know uh just disappointing to not be able to see the San Jose to generate any sort of offense in the in the third but as looked great tonight. Uh Misa Dickinson continuing to Misa Dickinson things kind of checking that box uh of return from his injury. So the good news is now uh San Jose got another game on Monday uh against the Ducks out of Anaheim. So, I’m hoping we see uh Celebrity make his preseason debut. Um and and hope we get to see uh I assume Dickinson Misa will continue to be in these preseason games. So, we’ll see. So, uh we’ll have a new episode for you on Sunday night, Monday morning. Uh so, make sure you’re following along wherever you get podcast. And of course, you can watch on YouTube as well. Follow the show on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and on Tik Tok at locked on Sharks. I apologize if the audio is a bit funky. Recorded this in a hotel lobby.
Delly didn’t produce offensively but his motor was the highest I saw tonight. Cardsy was a close second
Penalties, penalties.
Dellandra needs to go
I liked Orlov and Cardwell in this game
Offensive struggles? We should NEVER have offensive struggles with this team
Judging by warsofskys presser sounds like card well is on his way to winning a job
Misa, Sam, Cardsy, Thompson & Shak all impressed imo. Very solid game for Asky too
Did Smith and graf sit this game
There's zero reason for dellandrea to make the team. Right to waivers please.
I don't know why Grundstrom gets a pass. He has zero value. At least Dellandrea and Goodrow will stand up for teammates.
Musty has done well also.
How did your son do at his tournament?
Stop using the words "right" and " like" so much…please dude lololol…otherwise great show
The most frustrating thing about Goodrow’s game was while he was on the ice he actually looked like he wanted to be there for the first time since he rejoined the team.
