NHL Preseason Highlights | Red Wings vs. Maple Leafs | October 02, 2025

And it is Matthews against Dylan Lurin and Craig
Simpson after a couple of days in Mscoa. Some time off. You’re interested to see how the Leafs
react. Cider comes up with a rebound. Swings it in off the stick of Carlo. Picked up here
by De Brick. Hot shot. Stallard looks sharp on that. Brandon Carlo up with the puck. Up
ahead. It goes to Knander at center. William Knander turns back. Ben Sherrod picked him up
at the weak fly. Bobby McMahon leads Knander in and Talbot with a stop on the backhand drive
by Knander for a power play that Chris will be the one at least that starts the season for
the Toronto Maple. Orin Riley a focus here as he gets that shot through a champ scores early
power play goal. Austin Matthews 6 seconds in play. How important is the face off? Well, John
Tabars wins it cleanly. Good puck movement to the net. No hesitation. You know, it seems like
a simple thing. Everybody talking about Morgan Riley and how he’ll do on the top. He puts it
to the net. Two little passes later and a great play by Ny and a third assist for Morgan Riley
because Ny and Tvaris get the Here’s Lorent and that’s a stop by Cam Talent. He’s looked fast.
He’s looked into it and there’s two goals in four periods so far. Here’s a guy who has two
goals the preseason. McMahon going to the net. Stopped by Talbot. Back the other way. Raymond
passing it a hit over the line as Marco Casper worked against Benois. That’s flagged down and
held by Stolar to get another audition to be ready for Wednesday. The big guy going to the
front of the net and the back hand stopped by Stolars in 52. Didn’t have a really chance
other than a morning skate to get his team. But I find that really difficult Chris with so
many games. How much practice has the Red Wings been able to have? Looked like they were on the
verge two years ago when they finished in a tie for eighth place. Here’s a chance in front and
stolines with a terrific stop off Marco Caspmer. Created some open ice and in tight. Good glove
save. Here’s Cowan flicking it ahead to Lorent. Lton on the move again. Benois stepping up.
Fenwa one handing it to the Detroit Nets. Organ Riley. Max Doy turns through center.
Ships it. Albert Johansson plays it back out. Riley on the near side. He is checked.
Renzac knee guard who’s had a terrific camp for Detroit. He’ll come back to the line.
Johansson caught and held by Sto. You know, do the Red Wings lead the league in hyphenated
names? Bernard Docker in and Sandine Pela. It’s it’s really an interesting lineup here for
Detroit. Not a bad lineup as well. You mentioned Pat Kane obviously not playing. He’s going to
be on that second line, but there’s some six Detroit Redwing players under the age of 22 in
this lineup. Then you know the future is sort of bubbling and starting to grow for Steve Eisman
and the Red Wings. There’s a Brink at 39 last year. He centers it. Picked off Lander was there
and now McMahon at center. Knander tried to follow up. Broken up by Larkin. Back in comes Raymond.
He’ll hook it across. What a pass with the stop off. Sandine Pelica in front. Here’s Machelli with
a steel. He hooks it in front. onto the net and he’s knocked down in front. Power play quarterback
across and Matthews read that flips it ahead. Nice has a clear cut break and stopped by Talbot. Nice
gets his own rebound in behind the net but third up. So typically on the third up you’ve got that
second power play. Maybe not as good a passer and there’s the anticipation by Matthews that sends in
Matthews power play goal so far. Here’s a turnover and quickly back in come the Red Wings and a
hot shot taken up high by Stlars. Andrew Cop spins it back to the line. Johansson returns
it to the Red Wing captain. Albert Johansson onto that left side. Edmonson sharp angle. Sto
got pumped by Raymond. Another look at Raymond getting a peep into the middle and back. And that
shot wide of the mark. Just over a half minute remaining. Sanding Pelic again. Right on. Stolard
is down. Matthew can’t clear. Cider Raymond Cider and the blocker stop. Probably the best sequence.
Had a lot of good chances, good puck movement by the Red Wings. But what I like about Stallar is
a is calmness in the net. But I mentioned this the big bottle. Look at the one- nothing leaf
lead. The shots 20-9 in favor of the Red Wings. Back to the line for Ed Budson.
Left in front. Patt stop and a beauty. Another chance in front. 22
stops and this the most spectacular. Full training camp will
obviously help him. Raymond off Penny back at the line for Rod. Rebound
scores. Dylan Lurin has scores gives up a rebound and Detroit has tied it. Goalender not
only if you can you’re trying to get in the goalender’s eyes. Well, he gets block boxed
out by Oliver Eman Larson. But watch at the end. Gets his stick in there. Gets a piece of
that shot so that Stlars can’t control it. All Sherrod’s trying to do is get it in there
because of the deflection. The rebound’s there. Now he’s got his stick free. Oliver
Ecman Larson’s above his stick as opposed to below it. Can’t get there quick enough.
Gustoson from the line. Drifts that wide. Down goes a little slow to get
up with a big stop there. Unable to dump it past to charge into
the zone. And back is Casper. Kelly in his own zone. Lost it in front.
And a spoiler defensive play there. One handed away. Scores brick and Stwar’s tried to
clear it and couldn’t get much on it. A turnover right in front. Diving body. You see instead of
going after it, he just poked it off the skate. And there’s a goal scorer goal to Brinket there.
Gets a piece of it as he’s falling down. Nigard, what a play there on his back end to bring it
just away from all the traffic coming back out. You could see Carlo didn’t see him until the last
second. It actually goes off of Rasmusen follows him out. Tanv threads it back in. Machelli after
it. Knander pouncing on it. Tamarz shooting it. And a right kick save by Talbot. Now we got the
eyes Knander and Tavaris. Yeah, lots of different looks. Maybe looks not sure if he’s injured. Lucas
Raymond across Lens huge stops to keep. It’ll come to Riley. Logan Riley panned on it. Got it back
and unable to get that to Knander. And now off to Vars. It’s an empty net here as Matthews with
one stop, but the second chance goes in and the Red Wings on a goal by the kid EMTT Finny. Be
happy here. What a save though on a turnover by McCabe. Watch Stole just push across at the last
second. He’s got the glove above the pad just in case. It is a high shot and it was exactly that.
Larkin put it above the pad, but it’s the glove that makes the save. Good effort by Matthews
to block the first one. Can’t get a piece of the second one and and Detroit will clear again.
Block draining as Tan Evan to bring it back after the puck. Leaf scored first tonight. And the Red
Wings get three straight in the third and win this

  1. Score aside, the Leafs had a horrible game. Stolarz was great, as expected, but the rest of the team was really bad. They struggled to complete a pass in the offensive zone, turned the puck over ALOT, the stupid dump n chase, far too many dumb penalties taken, the defense was better then the offense but still allowed too many shots against. I expected to see a much better game from them, considering this looks like the opening night line up. The score is irrelevant. Win or lose, this it doesn't mean anything, but the way they play definitely does. Also, I don't believe Cowan is NHL ready. He's been, basically, useless. Throw in Robertson instead. I seriously hope they improve or its going to be a long season.
