Padres vs. Cubs NL Wild Card Game 3 Highlights (10/2/25) | MLB Highlights
You win and your World Series dream stays alive. You lose, well, you go home. The stakes are that simple today at Wrigleyfield on a beautiful afternoon noon for baseball at the friendly confines. Game three of the wildard playoff series between the Cubs and the Padres’s. Both teams have won a game thanks to their powerful Wolf Hems. What happens today? That’s the beauty of October baseball. Anything can happen today. Two very evenly matched teams. what to expect today, the unexpected. You just don’t know who’s going to be the guy that steps up and has the big game. And and that’s what postseason baseball is all about. You want your stars to play big, but you just don’t know who that person is going to be. Game three starter for the Cubs. It is Jameson Tyion. His second postseason start maybe, just maybe, Ben, for the former second overall pick. The most important start of his Big League career. I don’t know if you could have a better game three starter than Jameson Tyion especially the way he finished the regular season man when he came off the IIL for the second time his last six starts. How about this? 4 and one with a 157 RA. Fernando Tatis Jr. going to lead off against Jame Ty Tatis chases again. He swings all three pitches and Jame Ty sets the tempo. Well, the wind is always a factor at Wrigley Field and right now it’s a little bit different than the first two days. The wind is actually blowing out to left and center. It might be a more hitter friendly environment today. That one vaulted in the air to Pete Cro Armstrong. You could see him drifting back. PCA in front of the wall puts it away. The first two days, guys, PCA is probably coming in on that fly ball. Park is playing a lot different today. Manny Machado had the biggest swing of the season for the Padres’s. A two-run home run in the fifth yesterday. His 12th career in the postseason. Machado to right center field. Armstrong electric. Maybe no one better in the game anywhere than PCA. Padres’s go one, two, three. Michael Bush will lead it off. No score. Bottom of the first inning. And U Darvish, the former Cub is on the mound. his 14th career postseason start, seventh as a Padre most all time. And boy does he love this place. He has totaled 13 innings and allowed just one run. Busch grouts the ball over to the right side and through a base hit for Bush. Cubs with their first hit of the ball game. No score a man at first. Nobody out. Nico her the batter. Horner with the ground ball slowly to short. Bogarts will flip to second. Con can’t get it to first in time. 6-4 fielders choice and Darvish has the first out. No score. One away. A man at first and the batter Ian Half as half swings and misses. And there’s another elevated fast ball for strike three. Well, it’s got to be the scout report because all the Padre pitchers have just pounded the ball towards the top zone. They consistently throw those four seamers just above the top of the zone to get some swing and miss. Kyle Tucker now left-handed batter run. Here’s Perine’s throw. It is a little bit late. A quick save call by Mike Molinsky at second as Nico steals the bag. Do they get him? Oh, the Padres’s think so. They’re using one of their two challenges and Oh, they got it. He’s out, man. Freddy Fine came out of there, man. Yeah, but the tag. Look at how aggressive Bogarts is. How many times do we see that arm get by? And Bogarts comes down and lands the tag with conviction. Yeah, you Darvish is about to be the only Padre left on the field. field. He’s overturned. The runners out. San Diego retains both their jobs. Not for long. Freddy Fine cuts down Nicoer. No runs, a hit, nobody left after one at Wrigley. No score. Tyion has set down the first five Padres’s. Nothing nothing game. And the batter is Ryan O’Harn. As Ryan O’Harn crowds the ball just off the glove of Nicoer. It’s the second base hit here in the wildard series for O’Harn. He’s the Padre’s first base runner. O’Harn sneaks it off the glove and the Padres’s have a base runner for Gavin Sheets and Tyion is throwing the change up more as the year’s gone on. We go back to a 2-2. Yes, he will kick change and a beauty. Tyion has put two zeros on the board. We go to the bottom of in number two. Cub offense has been held in check beautifully in the first two games of this series by the Padres’s. Kyle Tucker gets to restart his at bat. Line drive. base set to right down the line over to pick it up is Tatis. It’s a leadoff single for Kyle Tucker. And the Cubs are getting their big man back in the middle of the order. And the Cubs yesterday, Craig Councel Bundis had only one leadoff man on already today. The Cubs have the leadoff man on twice. You know, one of the guys that’s been redot for the Cubs, Sea Suzuki coming up with a guy on. You like seeing him come to the plate with men on. Sea Suzuki left field. That’s a fair ball. tucked inside the line. Suzuki has his third extra base hit of the series. Tucker’s in the third and the pressure is really on the Padres’s now. His bat in this lineup has been Sea Suzuki. He came in hitting five home runs in four games. Had a home run in game one and a double now. Backto back games. Great scoring chance. Second and third, nobody out. San Diego is going to draw the infield only partly in for Carson Kelly. Kelly gets drowned. Two seamer rail right into the elbow and the Cubs load the bases with nobody out. Well, Hugh Dar is trying to get that fast inside cuz he’s trying to create a ground ball to keep the runner in third base. He just overcooked this one. All of a sudden, now the Cubs bases loaded and nobody out. Of course, it’s Pete Crow Armstrong. We’ve talked about him all series long. He was the dude in the first half and we saw the best Cubs offensive numbers and he has struggled as of late. Message right now is do not pitch it in the strike zone center field. Here comes Jackson Merrill. It goes for base hits. He Carl Armstrong puts the Cubs on top in game three. That’s kind of what I’m talking about right there. Darvis with the bases loaded can’t afford to expand his own. You got to a way to get a ball in the strike zone. And I’ll tell you what, when PCA attacks balls over the white part of the plate, he can have some success. Guy’s got a ball he can handle. Dumps it out. You see Barl coming hard right there. He had a chance at it. Ball falls right in front. The Cubs only can score one. That’s the first base hit of this series for the Cubs with a runner in scoring position. Base is loaded. Nobody out. One- nothing Cubs. Bottom of the second inning. And U Darvish’s day is done. Mike Shield coming out. He will make a pitching change. Ud Darvish faced four hitters in the second. Did not retire any of them. The former Cup Jeremiah Estrada gets thrown into the mastrom at Wrigley Field. Swanson two for six in this series. Pirates called four. Swanson walks in a run. It’s two nothing. Pretty good play appearance by Dansby. That was the patience of a veteran. We just saw big at bat. And now the Cubs need another big swing for Matt Shaw. Sean Chase is well off the plate. Estrada picks up the strike out for the first down. Now the Tina turns over. Now you’re dealing with the top. Good push coming up next. Fast down. Grounded to first. Arise gets one. Bogard two. Double play. And the Padres’s limit the damage. What a beautiful play. Jeremiah Estrada comes in with his fire extinguisher. Luis Arise first up in the fourth inning against Jameson Ty and Arise with a line drive dropped by Swanson. He’s got time and Arise is out. Arise was well out of the baseline. It looked like he was heading back to the dugout. Yeah, it looked like to me he thought the ball was caught on a line drive by Swanson. So Arise quit running right here. See, I mean, he slowed down a little bit and that cost him a base runner right there. and he is upset with himself because he knows he should be at first base right now. Padres’s have been foiled by Tansby Swanson all series. Two great plays Tuesday. Got it out to start the fourth as Machado props the ball up toward first. Will it stay in play? Yes, it will. Michael Bush up close and personal with the Padres’s for the second out. That’s what you call homefield advantage right there. Michael Bush knew exactly where the rail was. just kind of eases over, feels it with his legs, and just kind of leans into that Padres’s dugout. Two outs, nobody on for Merryill, who struck out looking his first time up. First pitch, swinging. Merryill ropes the ball to the right field corner. Suzuki fields it, wheels, and throws to second. It’s not in time. And Jackson Merrill has his second double of the Wildard series. And just like that, the tying run is coming to the plate as Ander Bogarts will look to create some two out magic here. And Bogarts lifts it into left field and half comes barreling in. Schwatson goes out and makes the catch. Barrel stranded at second. Four scoreless for Tyone in game three. Jameson Tyone coming out of the ball game after four innings, two hits, four punch outs. Caleb Theelbar will now enter the ball game for the Cubs. Veteran left-hander. He has had a great year. One away. Gavin Cheats now will face Theelbar. He did not have the opportunity to do so yesterday. Yeah, but Chates has his first hit of this series. He drags a slider left on left and right. He is his first hit now. Jake Cronorth who’s 0 for eight. Didn’t even get a scholarship to play at South Dakota State. And here he is carving up batters and the postseason. The bar strikes out two of the three lefties. And Craig Council will get Daniel Palencia in a two nothing game. Daniel Palencia. He’ll face Freddy Ferine. 101 fought down the line and left. That’s a fair ball. Freddy Ferine jumps on the fast ball and the Padres’s have runners at second and third with two down for Fernando Tatis Jr. as Ferine comes through. Remember a year ago, Fernando Tatis Jr. trying to carry the Padres’s through the first couple of rounds in a huge spot here. He swings and puts the ball in the air to right. Routine for Suzuki. Valencia fired up. He gets to Tease Strands the tying runs in scoring position. Daniel Palencia on phase 2 34. It’s a one hopper to a sliding sw. He does it again. You shall not pass. MVP of this series without a doubt. And it’s the D. And if you want sexy stats, I get we can talk offense. We could talk pitching all day, but for me it’s the D. When it comes to the Cubs, Danby Swanson showing it off here. Just knock this ball down. Spin it around and throw out a Louisa Rise who’s getting down the line. That is four now. Count him. Four hits taken away from Danby Swanson. That is the first walk issued by a Cub pitcher in this game. And it will bring the tying run to the plate with one away in the top of the sixth inning. Jackson Merrell and Merryill crowds the ball to shortstop. Swanson to the back. Swanson the first. Swanson to the dugout. He’s everywhere. Dansby grabbed the grounder, ran over. The timing was impeccable. As soon as he stepped on the bag, he was throwing to first and avoiding the sliding Machado. You can’t do it any better than Dansby just did. And the Padre closer, Robert Suarez, is in to try and keep the Padres’s in this game. And a rare circumstance here for the Padres’s. And the Cubs have two men on with one away trying to add to their two nothing lead. So that is definitely some movement in the right direction for Pete Armstrong. Big spot now for Dansby Swanson. That’s a very important run out at second base. Swanson chases another change up. Strike out for Suarez. Two on and two out for Shaw who has struck out both times today. Shaw strikes out swinging. Smoke from Suarez. Strands two Cubs 100 mph heater and back-to- back Ks for Suarez after the two singles and we’ll go to the seventh inning. Xander Bogarts, Ryan O’Harn and Gavin Sheets coming up. Daniel Valencia is still out there at least for one more battle. Bogart’s in the left. There’s the leadoff hit and for the first time today, San Diego gets the leadoff runner on. Valencia is going to leave the game as Drew Pomeran’s now prepares to go to work on Ryan O’Harn. Hogards at first. Nobody out. O’Harn moves the fly ball to left center. Winds died down. Petro Armstrong with plenty of space. Puts him away. Padres’s will go to their bench now with one out. They saw Mike Shield pinch hit Jose Glaciius for Gavin Sheets yesterday and he’ll do so again in the seventh inning today. Glacius shows. Here’s the throw to second and the sweat tag late. Xander Bogard sneaks in there. The second best base stealer by stolen base percentage in the big leagues. Takes a bag. Close the one two and Glacius lines it to second and a leaping Nicoer. They tried somebody else. It was the wrong somebody. The problem is they tried another gold glover. The Stanford man soaring through the sky and Pomeran has two outs. Jim Cronorth Cron drives the ball to center field. A lot of room out there for PCA and the inning is over. Gets it done. The Cubs faithful have been buzzing from a four first pitch. They’re six outs away from the National League Division Series as Robert Suarez returns to the game to face BCH. Bush drives a ball to deep right field. Michael Bush. Goodbye. Michael Bush, one of the hottest hitters on the planet going into this playoff, comes up big in game three. Cubs lead three to nothing. Michael Bush with a drive over the right center field fence. It cleared the 368 marker and landed about two or three rows back and the Cubs now lead by three. Do you think this crowd was ready for a blast from someone in a blue uniform? Woo! Horners in the second with a double and they’re going crazy at the confines. Cubs got the extra base hits working here in the seventh inning. And Robert Suarez 31 pitches deep and has reached the end of the line ending the ball off perhaps for the final time as a Padre. That’s up to Adrien and his offense. He has got his work cut out. Runner at second base, nobody out. It just feels like the Padres’s have to draw a line in the sand. Right now lays down a bunt. It’s a beautiful punt. Half is out at first. He had with a sacrifice butt to put a runner at third and only one out. Bale Tucker batting with a man at third. Infield in one away. Tucker with a ground ball to first. Arrives will go to the plate. He gets the out there on a hit first. Three-2 to cut down the potential fourth run. This at the plate is closer than I than you think. Okay. Yes. Nico’s head first dive. He gets his hand. I think it’s his left hand in there quite a bit closer than you think. They are going to challenge as it stands. Tucker would be at first with two down. That looks like the best look. Stand out. Chicago loses both stands. Yeah, I just don’t think it was enough there. Tucker takes over at first. The batter is Sea Suzuki. 02 pitch swing and a miss. Suzuki strikes out and the Cubs will just get the one here in the seventh inning. Here is Pete Crow Armstrong. Pete having a good day. A couple of singles. He drove in the first run of the game. Lift it to right. PCA right on time for 100. His third hit. And PCA might not be at first base very long. He goes, he was ready for it. You still lead. PC goes barreling into the bag for a steal. There was no doubt he was going to try to take an extra 90 right here. And boy, that is close again. Does he stay on the bag? Croninworth does a nice job. And that’s what they’re teaching infielders now because of replay. There used to be a time we would do a swipe tag and get out of there, but now infielders are holding the tag on the runner because there’s a chance they slide across the bag a little bit. The question is, does he keep contact with the bag? And a nice job by Cronorth. And right there it looks like he may be off because clearly he beat it. He was in there and and and was safe but then he slid across contact with the base. It will be overturned. He is out. San Diego and both their challengers once again. Freddy Fine in the face of a great jump cuts down a Cub base stealer. John Cusack can’t believe it. Don’t make Cusack mad. Struck him out swinging. And Morgan works a scoreless eighth inning thanks to that replay review. And we go to the ninth. Three more outs is what the Cubs need. Fans are standing. Something tells me they’re going to be standing for the entire half inning. San Diego batting in the ninth inning. Jackson Merrill leads it off. A high drive to right field. Merrill gets into one. Did he get under it? He got just enough into the basket for Jackson Merrill. The leadoff man in the ninth with a home run for San Diego. And the Padres’s are not done yet. The seal has finally been broken. Took 24 outs to get to his point, but Jackson Merrill with the solo shot gets the Padres’s on the board. Tried that split there it looked like and left it in the middle of the plate. Jackson Merrill hammered it. Alexander Bogards one out of three with a single in his last at bat. A 3-2 from Keller. That’s the three called DJ Wayburn just bailed out Keller and Bogarts knows it. almost seemed like I don’t know that he ever turned away from Bogey. It almost seemed like an admission that he he missed that pitch. Mike Shield stayed there yelling and he never even budged a look that way. Keller has lost control and the Padres’s have the tying runs on base on backto back hit batsman. I tell you what, the misses from Keller have been as bad as bad of misses as you can get. It’s the right hand for Craig Council. He’ll go to the game two opener. Andrew Kitridge for a third consecutive day. Kitridge will try to rescue the ninth inning. It’s a ground ball too softly hit for two. Can they get one? Yes. For the moment, Matt Shaw gets the out at first. And no doubt the Padres’s are going to take a look here. Matt Shaw had a little bit of trouble on the transfer and then he threw a dart over to first base out or safe. Oh, he’s out. He’s out. Well, Matt Shaw knew he was in trouble after he had a little bit of trouble and he put everything he had and that’s a nice play over at first base by Michael Bush goes up the ladder and he’s confirmed. Two down, but now there are runners at second and third. So the tying runs are in scoring position with two down in the top of the ninth inning and Freddy Fairmy in the number nine hitter ready to step in. First pitch swinging for me in the center. Pete Cro Armstrong on a three hit day makes the catch. The Chicago Cubs are going to hit up 94. They move on to Milwaukee and the National League Division Series. The Cubs have won the ball game. They have won the National League Wildcard Series battle against San Diego and Ronnie. Not surprisingly, it went right down to the final at bat. It never gets easy. Great pitch. A little pitch away. Get the routine fly ball. And who better to catch it in center field than Pete Crow Armstrong to finish up this wildcard series. The Cubs win game three. They will advance and head to Milwaukee. And I hear Milwaukee is pretty this time of year.

clearly out stealing 2nd. Listen kids you got to stay on the bag.
That 9th inning catch by Busch from shaw was eerily similar to Kris Bryant throwing to rizzo to win the WS and that gives me goosebumps
what's up with Tatis? I feel like this year for him was really underwhelming, only .268 BA and didn't really do anything in this series. I hope he can bounce back next year
Arraez run very slow😂
Thanks Cubs!!
Umpire se comió el juego con papas fritas jajaja 🤣
Let’s go Cubs!
教士隊感覺每個人都跑很慢,輸在腳上。
win or go home game and arraez is jogging to first. then the padres complain they didn't win when none of them hit anything.
Ump won the game. Bogaerts gets his base. Bases loaded with 0 outs. Cronenworth dribble to short moves the runners and brings a run in. 3-2 cubs with runners now on second and third and ONLY 1 out. Fermin’s fly ball becomes a sac fly runner from third tags and ties the game. 3-3 with now runner in 2nd and Tatis Jr at the plate with 2 outs. The umpire killed the comeback rally. With Mason Miller in the bullpen Pads could have easily won it. Pads swept the Brewers a week ago too. Thanks ump.
Glad Cubs won. But just 6 runs in 3 games? They better find some offense hella quick going against the Brewers
As a Dodgers fan, that statement at 0:17 drives terror into my heart: “Both teams have won a game, thanks to the powerful bullpens.” 😕
Dansby save the game
The referee ruined the game. bogarts four ball it is right. ai strike zone or strike zone challenge is necessary
PCA really should be gold glove CF. No one covers ground like dude. They were showing some catches he made this year w 0% catch rates. Low line drives tailing away into the gaps & he’s always there
Hay que investigar ese picher que dió 2 bateadores haber si está en la mafia y quiere manchar ese hermoso deporte.
We got reeeeaaaally lucky on that blown call on the full count in the 9th
First time in 8 years🥹🥹 I’m so happy💙💙
Bye bye padres I guess you can’t beat the dodgers
Wha'happened, Padres? Y'all were talking so much smack about the Dodgers. Dodgers are on their way to the NLDS. Padres… are not.
모래알같은 샌디.
만년 그저그런 팀.
7:48 hustle coaching example. Gotta want it. 😢
第九局的第一出局誤判會影響很大😅
Fernando Tatis this long off season..PLEASE CUT YOUR HAIR!! It’s not pretty!! Advanced thank you and better luck next time…AGAIN!!😜😆🤣
심판이 엉망이네
Time for a Balls and strikes automated system in the MLB
What happened Padres needed the win today
That ump should be removed from remaining games.
bad call….
Yessss 💙❤️ COME ON CUBS 💪
The better team won
18:15 abs가 필요한 이유… 이 중요한 게임에서 홈런 하나로 1점 쫓아갔는데 다음 첫 타자 볼넷을 아웃을 줘버리네…
Good game – Cubs showed up best
