New York Knicks Vs Philadelphia 76ers FULL Game | Otc 2,2025 NBA Abu Dhabi Game, Preseason Today
New York team, those are the back and respond and be a factor in an Eastern Conference that’s a bit open. It it is open and I think, you know, as always, entering a season, you wish for help for all of these players, all of these teams and something that I know that uh both of these sides desperately want to make sure to maintain here as they get set to get themselves ready for the regular season. on the opening possession. Here is Dier last season, but they believe that if they can get George and Embiid healthy, they’ve got the guard showcase here early on. Dier lets it fly at his short. Robinson can’t reel it in. Here comes Philadelphia on the other end and a foul from behind off the take by Kelly Ubé Jr. going to be charged to the miss Bridges. First personal foul to Male Bridges. So it’s the 11th year man in Kelly for the 76ers 15 and six this past year he averaged with Philadelphia and you had mentioned it with Philadelphia just the lack of consistency and continuity with some of their key players being on the floor having time together very opposite story for this Knicks team you look at last season the starters played 940 minutes together most of any fiveman unit in the league but I think that’s where you know the question marks come in to what does the style of play look like under Mike Brown? The creativity, the explosiveness and dynamicness that’s anticipated out of maybe some of the changes he will make with the context of the offense. Can they still keep that defensive identity? But you’ve got a group of players who achieved a tremendous amount last season looking to build on that defense from UB and he picks the pocket of Bridges in transition. The Sixers converts. It’s Tyrese Maxi. Nice quick start. Defensive pressure. You see that out of the gates. That’s something that Tyres Maxi absolutely can do. But Kelly Ubé now coming to the table with it. Quick on the push looking for get aheads and that’s a characteristic of how a team especially with Maxi will play and the speed that he has both with the ball on his hands and also just continuing to get it up the court. All righty. Year six for Tyrese Maxi. Very off for Edgecom. And here come the Knicks. New York with 51 wins in the regular season last year. Their most since 2012 13 when they won 54. Brunson trying to corral. He does. Mitchell Robinson battling for the rebound. Dier comes down with it and one. Great energy for Dier. His ability to stay with the play. You see some collapses, some quick traps. Obviously, the aggressiveness of the defense we have already mentioned, but here just the activity. Give credit to Mitch Robinson too for keeping that ball alive and and that’s you’re seeing the size across the line for this New York Knicks team between Robinson. You got Dier, Carl Anthony Towns on the table. And that’s going to be the optionality that these lineups bring pending what they do and what Mike Brown chooses to do with the depth of this bench. That’s a big question and we’ll get to it throughout the show. But they bring in Jordan Clarkson, Gershon, Yabulele as that is just pretty from Maxi. He is such a fun player to watch. Similar last year, it was the first time they had missed the playoffs in seven seasons. But he is a key con to this and anyone you talk to out of the 76ers camp will say that. Not only his play on the court, but the leadership off. Nice job by Robinson defensively. Bridges comes up with it. Male Bridges catch and shoot. He’s off. Robinson taken away by Edgecom. Edgecom out of Baylor to Adele Bona who’s been getting rave reviews from Nick Nurse. He he has because for as much as we’re talking about Joel Embiid the size and the front court without him who are going to be some of those players that fill the stops and Bona is someone who indeed as breakdown is just all a part of the process of figuring out how you’re going to play and getting your legs your feet under you again for for the uptick of intensity in game action. Shot clock down to eight stopped by the Knicks. Dier with the defense on Barlo. Here comes Brunson. Brunson fouled on the tank. And we have Philadelphia. Kale association with what he did leading the Knicks to their first ECF in a quarter century. Uh the steadiness, the composure. uh he just has a beautiful ability to organize a team what’s needed when it’s needed so many of course the clutch player of the year but reasons why and and it is that ability to have the same mentality disposition it seems regardless and you you see it there and I think that’s too when we’re talking about Mike Brown taking over what that looks like and he has mentioned the fast pace of this offense and how he wants to continue to quicken things up and what that may look like for adjustments or changes in some of the play of a player in Jaylen Brunson who was absolutely extraordinary in all NBA the last two years. U off rebound for Philadelphia here and fresh 14. Here comes Maxi head and it’s Steve Maxi the Bona Maxi Maxi turns out to Jazzy. He can get wherever he wants to on the floor. And you’re seeing the players around him doing a really good job of using their spacing, the balance, and then cutting off of it when he forces help. Brunson cannot hit, but Robinson slams it back. Mitchell Robinson. Here comes Maxi trying to find Bona again. And uh blocking foul underneath on New York. Bona’s been plenty active. Well, it been plenty active. And here you see Mitch Robinson active there on the offensive glass. What they anticipate out of him. And on the other side once again Maxi good job give and go with that dunker spot has worked well for this Philadelphia 76ers team. Everyone step up and try a little traffic. They’ve been working the backside. Still Philly basketball. Jabari Walker checking in for Barlo and the Sixers will convert easily there. Tyrese Maxi came ready for the Abuhabi games. Came ready to some pre-season defense uh that we’re seeing a little bit here on the New York’s Knicks side of things. But for Philadelphia, they’re coming through the lane and getting to the places on the floor they want. Nice dish from Towns. Dier can’t connect. Robinson gets tackled and he’ll head to the line. And this Philadelphia foul is going to be Mitchell Robinson. He talked with the media at Knicks media today. But the biggest thing he talked about was the fact that over the past three years, he’s been banged up. He’s only played in 43% of the team’s games. But he said, “You know what? I got back in the lab. I worked on myself.” Sarah, he started his own farm over the off season. Oh, okay. He brought in experts. Let’s go. Went all organic. He’s been eating all healthy, all organic. He said, “I feel cleaner. I feel ready for this season.” And that’s a big part of it in the progress for every player as they get accustomed to what they need to do with him. Now in his eighth year, 27 years old, he isn’t a contract year, but you said it and I think, you know, you kind of tongue and cheek, we say this a lot about players coming into the preseason feeling like they’re in the best shape of their life, but he really does feel that way. And you look at the last couple years, 59 games, two seasons ago, 31 a season ago, last year 17 games. So for him, you know, for as much as we always say, it’s just about being available to be on the court cuz when he has been, you see it, you know, so often just presence and run protection that he can create. Maxi had that altered by Robinson. Good defensive possession by the Knicks. Here’s Bridges. Male Bridges. Male Bridges. Quick get ahead. Good leak out. Mel Bridges. Another player signed a nice big uh contract extension this off. We’re going to have a timeout a horse, but no camels. Uh, no camels yet. But maybe we’ll make that happen. You know how special it is, though. And just the opportunity for for people to see what this looks like up close to personal, not even just the play on the floor, but we talk about this so often, just the outreach within the communities and these players, what they’re able to do. Yeah. And they do a bunch of different beyond just the game. NBA district fans can meet legends, participate in different basketball activities. They’ve got musical acts. The players give back with different clinics and whatnot to the community. They interact with the kids. So, there’s so much programming and and that’s really part of all these different international games as the NBA will head to Melbourne, Canada, China, Mexico City, Berlin, and London in addition to this showcase. found short out of the timeout. Maxi has had it cooking early on. [Music] Shot clock’s down to eight. She kicks the three in and out. Rebound to Robinson. [Music] Knicks want to play faster. They want to move it more. That’s Mike Brown’s thought process as Towns is fouled with a two-man game with Robinson. This time the Philly foul going to go against number one Andre Drummond. That’s his first aid of credit for what he was able to do with this group with this team. Anthony, you’ve already mentioned it, but how much they accomplished and how far they were able to go. But the final step in the organization, they believe that they are a finals team, a championship contending team. So to your point, what does that look like? And and we know Mike Brown, you had mentioned in the course of his many stops, his time within the NBA. So often his teams have always played fast and a big part of that is his mind and creativity of what that looks like on the offensive side and you know how they’re able to maintain that type of offensive flexibility with this group. But you said of the transition, the pace, the space talked a lot about flooding the corners, what they want to do and upping their three-point attempts. And you know, now is the time to see teams work on things. There’s a lot of talk about what you want to implement, but then how that looks like on the floor. I think, you know, this is the fun time for teams to see and get a taste of it. Well, in the different lineups that they could employ as well, the the Knicks now is Josh Hart. You’re already seeing it. Josh Hart, Clarkson, Duce McBride coming in. And even, you know, again, Mike Brown said at practice yesterday, he is not determined yet who that fifth starter will be. And I know Josh Hart obviously is a player who both he and Mitchell Robinson seem to be, you know, in the front line of what that looks like. And Josh has what a tremendous want to have that against the course of his career. We’ve seen him stay here on this end. It will be Philly Ball 76er basketball. He says, “I’ll do what’s best for the team. That that’s who I am. That’s who he’s always been since his days playing for Jay Wright. goes back to the fact these two teams are tied together at the at the hip with the Philadelphia connections and the Villanova connections of the Knicks off the fake. That three is a little bit long. Rebound to Towns. [Music] Deuce McBride for three. ball number two, Miles McBride. He’s such an important aspect of what this team can do in his fifth year. You know, a player who has spent his time with the Nixons being drafted by by them, but three-point shot last year was an important part of that. How that’s improved quickness. [Music] Kelly Ubé with the answer. Of course, with Philadelphia, we don’t see Joel Embiid or Paul George still working their way up for the season with those knee issues. Both feel like they’re in a good place as Towns is fouled. This Philadelphia foul going to be charged to Andre Drummond. That’s his second team foul. This is what that looks like with him. Carl Anthony Towns, the presence that that Drummond brings to the table, of course, uh rebounding machine, that has not changed. Man, his numbers are wild. Johnny, I was looking back through and obviously we do this often now that he’s in his 14th year and 14th 14th year. What he’s accomplished the time will come out, but number 11 Justin Edwards also steps out every season. average double digit rebounds from 2013 to 2020. No less than 13 rebounds per game in a season. And I mean some of those numbers are just wild. But you see that and you still can see it in you know the way he’s continued to take care of his body coming this season feels a little lighter. He too in a contract year. So what that looks like and just to add that that can bring to the 76ers when needed given some of the uncertainty around what it will look like when Joel is properly back on the floor. The four time rebounding leader and there Drummond with the assist from Maxi. Andre Drummond Maxi worked out some toe injury issues as well that he had last year. And it’s going to go the other way. Philly ball. 15 apiece here. Game one of two for these two teams to tip off their preeason. Game two will come Saturday right here on NBA TV. NBA app two lbs. Count it. Count the bucket for a cat. And already you seen some of this push, some of this run in transition. by the Knicks. Also, it helps how fast the 76ers have been playing and want to play. Foul right there. A strong take by Towns right into the body of Walker. Jabari Walker, another player the 76ers side. Dominic Barlo back into the game for the 76. What that looks like for him showcasing things here in the preseason given some of the space to fill with those injuries early on. Well, you think about Mike Brown and how he wants to play and Town’s ever confident, Sarah. He has been on the record saying, “Look, I I believe I’m the best big man shooter of all time.” Mike Brown says, “Yeah, we are going to lean into that.” That that’s exactly what I want to hear because we want a space and we want to move. And you wonder what that balance looks like throughout the course of his career. He’s taken just a little bit over four three-point shots per game. Last season, right around there as well, just under five. So, you got to wonder if if the spacing if the three-point uptick will continue. And a big part of that is Towns at the elbow with a kick. Harrison. [Music] Here is Maxi taking on a bigger leadership role now. Year six of his New York ball career. Talk more about that as we go along. We got a timeout here with the Knicks. And we’re going to have a timeout. 18- 15 on the champions in as many years coming into this season. And the NBA parody has never been higher. Well, and it’s going to be fun and interesting to watch for a lot of these teams, especially we’re looking at two teams here in the Eastern Conference and a Knicks team that step away from getting themselves to the finals, of course, losing in six games to the Indiana Pacers. Uh but the Eastern Conference, they’ve unfortunately, and it’s a terrible part of the game, been hit with quite amount of injuries for some key players and key teams. And then on the Western Conference, just a beast. Uh you can’t say enough about what that looks like, how stacked it is, how deep it is. Jordan Clarkson, one of the new Knicks. Clarkson coming to terms on a deal with New York after Jazz and him agreed to a contract buyout. last year averaged 163 and three and a a big opportunity now for Clarkson. The Knicks need depth and he looks to supply it as McBride hits. Absolutely. And for a player like Jordan Clarkson, we know he’s a magnave and he can come off the bench put up big numbers and when you a lot of games and he was in a circumstance that was a different feel and probably a different type of expectation while he was in Utah. Now for this New York Knicks team, what does that look like? Second again, we keep talking about the depth and that’s a big part of what Mike Brown wants to do is make sure to utilize that maybe lessen some of those minutes, heavy heavy minute loads of the key players throughout the course of the season and how that may change some of the results or the effects of the field throughout the course of the postseason. Nice give as Edgecom found Janai Broom the Auburn superstar and all-American the Philadelphia 76ers a bright future and an amazing college career for Broom in the SEC is hard as off and that’s the fun part like a player like Jai Vroom 23 years old he is a rookie and it it’s different for different players is he’s trying to work on the inside you got a player in PJ Edgecom who is young and he’s fry spent a year at Baylor um extraordinary but a player like Broom who spent two years at Morehead State, three years at Auburn. So he comes in with a a different level of experience. Picked 35th overall in the draft. New York foul going to be charged number two McBride. That’s his first personal foul. First in the last two minutes. Well, and that’s what’s interesting about what Nickur has said with his team. Let’s take another look at this. But the the big men with health always, you know, a question mark heading into the season. They certainly hope that they that they get him back to the level he’s capable of. They have an open doorway for someone to prove throughout this preeason that they deserve minutes, that they can play a factor there. there’s opportunity for Philadelphia in their front court and that’s you know that’s where it becomes interesting when you have such a explosive dynamic and despite you know young in the fact of you’re looking at a player like Edgecom and of course the unfortunate injury once again to Jared McCain who had a great start to his rookie year and only ended up playing 23 games tore a ligament in his thumb and is out for a little bit of stretch of time here early on but what that looks like in the post and and two for Joe LMP just continuing to monitor that because by all accounts Nick Nurse has talked about him, you know, be it on the practice floor, not a full participant, but potentially how that could impact what things look like at the early part of the season with some younger players getting experience. Nice foot back flying in was Dominic Barlo. About a 7second difference, a little less than that between shot and game. Here’s Clarkson with the spin move. He was doubled. Gave it away. Philadelphia will hold for the final shot. [Music] Maxi. Tyrese Maxi with five. Here’s six for Maxi. Looking to be that leader for this team. And he shows it. Tyrese Maxi with two. Clarkson. And we have a 25 Kai bended on Monday, September 22nd at 3:40 a.m. Nico to honor their Italian and Filipino roots. His middle name Kai comes from their love of Hawaii. Nico Kai Benedict, mom and baby doing great. Their dogs are doing well as well. The Benedict family adding a new member to our NBA family. Congratulations. And Niko Kai is one lucky, lucky little boy to have those two as parents. That’s for sure. We love you Benedicts. Sixers up 27 to 25. Corner number two. McBride with the offensive rebound. Here is Hart. Gabel, former Sixer facing his old team. goes out of bounds last time and just going to be great to watch what he was able to do in his time and what he showed playing for his home country of France in the Paris Olympics and a big part of I think what sparked his return back to the NBA last year with this 76ers team shot the ball really well 38% from the three-point line something that they’ll look for him to try and be able to do with his size and strength but also stretching the floor took contact in this foul. You think about it, Sarah, Philadelphia charge to VJ. We talked about the Knicks and first team what their expectations are. And on the other side, 76 with majority owner Josh Harris said, “Look, we know what last year how how rough that was. We obviously wish we were healthier. We owe our our fans more. They they know that. But but Sarah in this Eastern Conference you said there’s some unfortunate circumstances there with the injuries if Embiid George if Jared McCain who’s just had surgery earlier this week with a a thumb injury all these pieces come together Maxi leading the way Edgecom now new to the table we know what Philadelphia’s goals and expectations originally were heading into last year anything’s possible right it is I I think probably for Philadelphia 76ers fans they they have felt that way for quite some time and it’s a question that always comes down to some of the uncertainty regarding health and so I think you know that’s I I’m sure where some of for everyone for the players themselves for Joe no one wants to be on the floor more consistently than a player himself and someone like Joel Embiid or Paul George hopefully getting back on the floor you know but I think overall to your point the pieces are there that is just the component that always becomes the question mark Nick Nurse heading over to Josh Hart who took a building in the hardwood. Is that mix of veteran presence? We talk a lot about that with some of the young players, the youthful players, whether it’s the front court, the back court, you know, and even a player like Maxi who continues to be touted for the growth and the leadership and the vocal nature that he’s shown. But parts of that do come from veteran players uh that are able to be around. We saw Kyle Lowry not too long in the break talking to Maxi in his ear. Mention a lot of players that 16 put in a lot of time in the lead season for Kyle Lowry. Tyler Koh stays here. Philadelphia basketball. That’s a play where Josh Hart looked like he was laboring a bit coming off the floor after getting Edgecom. BJ Edgecom with the bucket out the a terrific freshman season for Baylor. Led the league in scoring. set a Baylor freshman record with 68 steals and Philadelphia loves his upside. They got these young guards as Clarkson is off. I tell you what, John, I was able to call the first and second rounds at the site where BJ was at his Baylor games there in Raleigh and and we’ve heard it from 76ers throughout the course of this preseason. But going back to Baylor, anyone he’s around, it is not just about his play, it’s the disposition of character, uh the joy, the enthusiasm, the work, all of those things. And so for a team like the 76ers, an organization really continue to bolster what things look like in terms of their mentality or the culture. I mean, a player like that is someone that there’s a reason why you get excited about him. And it’s not just the athleticism, the skill, what you hope he throws into, but also that type of teammate that he may be able to be. Dier fouled. It’s a terrific point, Sarah. And 76 are foul going to be number nine, Kelly Ubé Jr. third overall personal foul in the draft Philadelphia edge is someone who brings not only a wealth of personality and and maturity, but how about this experience? He starred alongside DeAndre Aiden and Buddy Heield for the Bahamas at the FIA Olympic qualifying tournament. Not to mention, I got a chance to spend some time with him at the 19 out in Portland. This is April before last. One more for D. He played for team world in that because he wanted to honor his Bohemian heritage and his family and his mother. This is just a young man who might have been a one anddone college freshman, but I felt like I was talking to a 30-year-old when you when you sit down and speak with him, right? and and note on that too, Eric Gordon also played for that Bohemian national team, but and that’s a part of it and that’s a part of the reasons that at this time of year and in the preseason that you do start to monitor, you start to get excited and you know uh by all accounts you a lot again we go back to people and what they try and do in the offseason they get set try and make that transition. And a big part of that for him was putting on more muscle and you know many have been impressed with the shooting he’s shown here early on. So all those things are things again it’s it’s early and anytime you got a player that’s 20 years old you know it across the board there’s always going to be some challenges and ups and downs along the way and what that looks out like throughout the course of a season. But I think you know just the enthusiasm for what’s been shown to this point certainly exists. This foul has also been charged to Justin Edwards from the play foul. That’s his second personal foul. Away from the play. 14 foul. 14 foul now. This is an away from the play foul. So Jordan Clarkson will go to the line and shoot one. A little bit of a push there by Edwards. Yeah. Jordan Clarkson. key piece now for the Knicks who are looking for depth to be a theme playing faster and the amount of ball movement. Six man of the year 21 and he told reporters at training camp this week when when I was told that I could have an opportunity to go to the Knicks I was on full go. I want to go for a title. Well, and that’s I mean, we keep mentioning this and Mike Brown has talked about wanting to play nine and a half, 10 man rotation and and just what that looks like throughout the course of the season, but there’s players we’re looking at Malcolm Brogden who, you know, he comes over here with this Knicks team and he has been very open and saying, I’m I’m not here to be just a veteran presence. I want to play. I expect to find a way to work myself into the roster. And all those things are again question marks and what will develop with this season. But there is a lot of players who have accomplished a lot throughout the course of their NBA career that are trying to find a way to fit a role for what a team looks to hope to make a very deep run in the spring. Clarkson up ahead. That’s a nice block by Ubé from behind and with the stick back Robinson for the Knicks. Mitchell Robinson Chandler with a give. Edgecom was trying to take the roof off there. You see some of that athleticism and burst. I was going to say jump jumps off the screen. I mean it’s but but look at that Robinson. He’s going right at the body of Mitchell Robinson. So, if that tells you anything with how high he’s getting up, how strong he is. That’s another nice defensive play by Kelly Ubé Jr. though. Good follow there by the Knicks. Yeah, you got a little smile on your face, huh? That looks pretty good. He’s 20. And And you know what I think is interesting about these young guards is talk about Edgecom, but Jared McCain is beloved already. Now it’s just about health. He’s got these two young pieces with Maxi. There’s a nice blend of talent but also maturity in the Nick in the Sixers back. And I think that’s the intent. That’s the hope. What that looks like growing into also the commissioner also in for Philadelphia. The um the other question important to note um for the Philadelphia Phil Philadelphia 76ers, he’s not been with the team, it’s not with the team in Abu Dhabi, but he will meet them when they come back is fifthear player Quent Grimes, who um yesterday did reach a agreement uh who was a restricted restricted free agent and he signed a a one-year qualifying offer. So, he’ll be back. So, you know, obviously that was a situation that uh had taken some time to resolve itself, but what he will be able to add to this roster. Brendan Latford’s a player who dealing with a little bit of a hamstring injury, but I got to watch him quite a bit um throughout the course of his time with the Brooklyn Nets and I think he’s someone who could be a nice young piece of kind of playing that point forward role and getting some players off the ball and facilitating Edgecom. DJ Edgecom from downtown. Well, if that piece of Edge comes game comes along, the perimeter shot, he will have the whole package. Robinson from Brunson. Nice deep position by Robinson as Clarkson was long on the three set of New York with four made threes. Four of 20 teams trying to find that shooting rhythm here in the second half. Here is Maxi. McBride got his hands on the basketball. A little stop and go. Sham. Shot doesn’t go down. Threes have not. But overall to defense to offense. quick on the push and a good job creating a three-point look for a three-point shooter. Those are the type of things that the Knicks are trying to continue to make more consistent. Maxi to Bona. He was stood up on the other end. Clarkson with two hands. [Music] [Applause] That all started with the defense from Yabusle. contact and a foul. He goes, “I needed to to have that moment.” Figured some things out. And he really had a nice final stretch of the season that coach Nurse was proud of. and and Ubé as a player. I mean, one is the defensive end, and we’re already seeing that type of of activity here, but also the three-point shot can be inconsistent, and he didn’t shoot that efficiently from the three-point line last season and has struggled to really continue to open up the game. Oh, that’s a big time block by Bona. Shot clock at four. Yel with two. Yucel and a foul is called at the last second. You’re going to need if you’re Nick Nurse to have some of those options of who may be able to bring you that rim presence protection on the inside and fill it in for a player like Joel Embiid feeling for Joel Embiid but fill those gaps at that position when called on the floor. Bona a Euro basket silver medal this summer as well with Turkey. Touch how beneficial that experience was. Nick Bride. [Music] That was stuff. Oo. UB takes a spill. Edgecom that shot form looks better. Short this time. Here’s Bono with a rebound. Maxi weaving his way. He got all the gears. The shiftiness, how he can slice through defenders. He does it so smoothly. and and I think there was that balance that we’ve seen throughout the course of his game and you mentioned with Edgecom Maxi is so quick getting downhill but he’s shown an ability to have really deep range knock down the three-point shot force defenses to have to respect him and that’ll open up those driving lanes and kind of see the same type of things with a player like BJ Clarkson off the window for Jordan Clarkson [Applause] Harlo Edgecom DJ trying to knock another down. He’s hit one. He’s hit the lone six or three. Clarkson again to Dier McBride. It’s McBry crossover. That is nifty from Miles McBride. Looking at his left hand. Yes sir. He did a great job again and continuing to just cut through the middle of the defense. I think for both of these teams they’re finding that three-point shots are not falling and the early part of this season. Edgecom to Ubé bring it up big time and a nice play by Edgecom to that point getting the defense and finding those kick outs and defense is still you getting up to speed. You’re going through training camp, you’re working through all the schematics. A lot of those philos philosophies that takes time to build that chemistry, really put things into place. Barlo catch and shoot. Here comes Duce McBride. Gabel at that terrific run with France in the Olympics, part of the French senior national team. Wow. Deuce Mc Pride putting on a show. You know, he could put the ball in the hoop and you know that’s something even that little mid-range game there working get to the basket, work the intermediate game, all of those things are and to make us all want to rebound. Highly recommend. Uh that’s amazing. That’s special. Cool to see also for all the kids and others, you know, that look up to him. And as I mentioned, he’s had some strong play here. Turnover there, but strong play here on the floor with just how he’s come out and what he’s done here on both ends of the floor. You have a new addition to your preseason reading list. Oh, no question. His books are right up my alley. They’re probably about my time span of of the books I’ve been reading at this point in the year. [Music] 11 point Nick’s lead. Here is McBride and a lot of run here. Shamut with eight. Back to McBride. Look what he found. Deuce. Rebound edge gone. [Music] [Applause] Same in Philadelphia. Yeah. And you know just the personality disposition, what Mike Brown brings to the table. We talked about how long he’s been in the league, the different stops, who he’s learned from, who he also has helped mentor, but also just the different styles. there is a consistency of how he’s wanted his teams to play and what he wants and looks for on the offensive side of things, but I think overall just understanding the personnel and how to continue to adapt with that is going to be something that’s going to be really fun to watch and interesting to see. Andre Sham off the bounce. Andre Sham selected 26 by the Sixers in the 2018 draft out of Wah State. part of some amazing teams there. This New York foul is going to be charged to number 14 Garrison Matthews. Year two with the now 14 fouls against the organization right here. 15 points lead [Music] out of steam. VJ is fouled. got his man in the air. Quickness that he can turn the corner and get downhill is evident when we see some new faces here. Few seasons ago out of Germany, but spent some time with the G- League and he is a really interesting prospect and and showed that when needed and when Mitchell Robinson was injured last year, his ability to screen and roll, rim protect, excellent. You see the effort plays that he brings to the table. rim running what he can do defensively, but [Music] his time and some time that he spent here on the court through the course of the last season has moments of flashes of a lot of upside. And there’s Malcolm Bracken that we talked about 10th year in the league and someone who intends to make an impact on this roster and in this lineup. had variety of other opportunities he said in free agency signed the non-g guaranteed deal with the Knicks trying to to get back to that shot making that he had a couple years ago all the way down the lane that transition ability to rim run get to the front of the cup for Horty but yeah I mean and that’s where sometimes you forget it having been with Washington and Portland the season with Boston he was six man of the year and you know a lot of those things he obviously remember him being rookie of the year coming in with the Milwaukee Bucks, the time he spent with the Bucks organization and being a winner, but it it’s the injuries that have hampered him in many cases throughout the course of his career. So now 32 years old, what does that look like and what can he bring to the table? But the the character has always been there, the leadership aspect, how he can organize an offense with the intention too of Jaylen Brunson maybe not putting in the amount of minute load throughout the course of the season, a player like Progton that can be a true guard, but also play on the ball and off the ball. 76ers. Sal foul on the take by Ariel Huck who has checked in. to Hunter Salis played for Steve Forbes at Wake Forest. He was terrific throughout his college career and his mom Jessica Haynes is cousins with James Harden. Wow. Basketball. Okay, Sham. These moments for these reserves so crucial in their efforts to make a case for themselves for time and for opportunities and that is the important thing to remember. Everyone kind of comes into preseason with maybe some different goals. Garrison Matthews from downtown. You said it. Seventh year player and Garrison Matthews undrafted time with Washington, Houston, Atlanta, 47 games with Atlanta last season. Three, that’s what he does. He knocks out three-point shots. Let’s see what that looks like for him throughout the course of this preseason. And yeah, some players, you know, know their role, know their body, know what they need to do to get themselves set for the season. Others are are working to find spots in rotation. Others working to find spots on the roster and also showcasing, you know, team Giron, but also just what that looks like big picture for earning a place here in this league. A blocking foul called on Matthews on the take by Gordon. Gordon off on the first. Now 13 Mike Brown quite the career. Number 51. Numerous stops. one of the really respected and nice people in the game. And from the time that you think back to 2007 when he was on the sidelines and the Cavs made the NBA finals, that unbelievable game five win in the Eastern Conference Finals when LeBron scored 25 straight Cavs points. to the job that he did in Sacramento as Cord is there with the slam. Getting Sacramento really on the rise of the franchise with that playoff run. This is a different call, but he says this is meant to be. And it’s our time in New York to win a championship. That is the goal. Deflected. It’ll stay right here with New York. Subs coming in for the 76ers. Number 22, Jard replacing Eric Gordon. Good follow here by Huckorty. Throwing it. Some of those instincts have come into play that you see often from him. All the way to the rim. Horty can’t corral it. Here comes Philadelphia. Top of the key triple. Sixers have been unable to to find that perimeter shot making in this game. And a foul now by Edwards. You think about it too, 1997 as an assistant in Washington and and that’s though a part of I mean even think about his time too with the Lakers and just all the different stops that he had, the players that he’s coached and what that looks like and you know those experiences that type of resume and his ability to see what he can do with this group and with this team is you know a tremendous opportunity but also a lot of responsibility and a lot of expectations given how much this team has accomplished and did accomplish last year trying to figure out a way to push the right buttons to get to that next step. Well, been looking for some shot making. Garrison Matthews has supplied it and before that’s what he’s done. His career in the league shooting over 38% from three. But when given an opportunity, given some space and room starting his career with the Wizards on his fourth stop, but credit to him for grinding it out. seventh year in the NBA. There is there is nothing to front about there. That says a lot about work ethic and Nick Nurse wants to see a stop. He was crouched. Matthews Oh, Garrison Matthews is on fire in Abu Dhabi. Light it up. We were talking about some uh struggles from the three-point line for these teams, but definitely not when it comes to Matthews. No. Down to one second here. loader and it goes at the horn for Kennedy. Paint makes the plays whether at the rim or finding teammates. Again, overall I think we see there’s some pressure on defense, some different looks and ways in which these coaches are are still getting a feel for their lineup, their team, and a good amount of players that have been able to have an opportunity to get on the floor and showcase some of their play. Alex Len has checked in for New York and now Len underneath and a foul from behind. Alex Len familiar to Mike Brown. Mike in this preeason competing for roster spots as it is an exhibit nine contract. Just there you see coach Brown. Some notable news for the Knicks. We talked about Ojan Nobi out just precautionary reasons. Minor sprain on the hand and you know will be all right. Josh Hart left this two teams will go at it again here in just 48 hours. try and strategize, manage, see what you need to see out of your team, out of your players, how they look, but especially for these global games and an opportunity at this platform and showcase. You want to make sure the fans and the people at Etsy out Arena and just everyone around the games have an opportunity to see so many faces and names in the grouping of the team that they’re excited to see and watch. I think we’ve seen a lot of that here early on. Not just talking about those on the floor and on the teams, but those within the building, some NBA legends and a lot of familiar faces that span sports entertainment, everything. Chandler, Kennedy Chandler driving and hitting. Well, Brian Winhorse, the great Brian Winhorse at ESPN, he’s out in Abu Dhabi. been watching Nick practices and some training camp as Matthews is off on this attempt. And Brian wrote for ESPN.com Sarah that it’s been a big change for the Knicks just watching them work together because Mike Brown is fully installing a totally different new look offense. It’s not going to be solved overnight, but this is an adjustment period for these players. It’s just kind of how you look at that because you want to make sure to to not take away the superpowers of Jaylen Brunson, what he has, why he’s able to be, you know, so so dominant and productive and effective and um just the overall style of play. Again, the evolution of it is going to be really fun to watch, interesting to see because, you know, a lot of it too for the Knicks offense for what it looked like in the latter part of the season and whether it is the pace and the quickness of decision-m that’ll fill up and fortify just the tremendous talent that he brings to the table while still complimenting that with so many of the other players, you know, that are really, really powerful, deep team and look to do some big things here in this upcoming season around back to the Knicks. Just getting started here on NBA TV and the NBA app with pre-season as Chandler finishes that off with a slam. You got the Pelicans. They’re playing preseason games in Melbourne against NBL’s Melbourne United and Southeast Melbourne Phoenix. And you can catch New Orleans in action tomorrow, 5:30 a.m. Eastern time on NBA TV. The Suns and Lakers will play in the Melbourne game at 10:00 on NBA TV. So, there’s a bunch of pre-season action to get another jam and a timeout. So many terrific initiatives by the NBA showing its global reach. [Music] six that the Toronto Raptors are a part of where they hit the games around different parts of Canada. But so many terrific initiatives by the NBA showing its global reach. [Music] [Applause] and 76. Sixers just one made three in the first half. That’s what sort of led them to being in a conundrum in this game. They not been able to find it. It was fairly impressive that they had even kept the score tight given how poorly they shot from three. A fairly Garrison Matthews being a big part of that, but I think overall some of that lack of efficiency now he’s just wearing into what the score is looking like. Tyler Col in that first half. The Knicks though did not shoot the three ball very well in that first half either though. They’ve really picked it up. Garrison Matthews being a big part of that. But I think overall some of that lack of efficiency now is just wearing into what the score is looking like. Tyler Kick is long on the attempt. Another whistle here. It’s going to be a defensive 3 seconds on can be but the youth of that core and the connectivity the chemistry the steady bill of course give Mark Dagnal credit but you know overall so many teams knocking at the door former defending champ Denver Nuggets what they look like how they’ve loaded up this summer and some of the pieces that they have been able to add you mentioned death but just you know you know what is on their mind. Houston Rockets of course you had already mentioned Kevin Durant going back to Oklahoma City in that opener to start the season but overall you know in the Eastern Conference as well just it again you never we we have all these excitement anticipation expectations and half the time you throw it out the window because so much can change and so much can develop throughout the course of the year. But I think that’s why the preseason is a fun time because you start to see some of that not only teams coming together but the development of some young players to look like and you know it’s not going to be a finished product at this point. So less about score less about some of the exactness of the play that we’ve seen but parts that I think oftent times you know we’re watching and the coaching staff is worried about what the players are worried about. Everything within house is all a part of the project that they’re putting together as the regular season gets closer and closer. I tell you what, the Eastern Conference, which has that that fascinating feel and and it’s unfortunate that Jason Tatum and Tyreseham, it’ll be really interesting to see as they’ve added Caris Lever, Duncan Robinson as well, how how the Pistons maybe Bicker St. that game or that uh first round playoff series against the New York Knicks. I mean, I know it was six game series that the Knicks won, but it felt, you know, it felt like One Direction. Yeah. And just, you know, when even, you know, my goodness, LeBron James and what he’s put together and now with Luca Donic and, you know, JJ Reic in his second season, the head co I mean, I think there’s just so many teams that the curiosity builds of how things play out, what things look like. And even with that being said, Dallas Mavericks, I mean, the list goes on of just very, very intriguing teams. Los Angeles Clippers. I feel like now I just keep naming off every team in the Western. That’s what it feels like. You know, it’s just anything can happen. And there’s so many moving parts of what that may look like as as we sit here now talking about it as opposed to what things will look like come March, April. That’s when he’s first lacing it up and gets introduced to that crowd. Those fans are great. They they love their crowd blades. That’s going to be fun. We cannot wait for regular season Tyler Kick, the former Big East player of the year. That’ll sign off the right side. Here comes Philadelphia. Tough drive and a foul on the tape. fierce with Portland was drafted 57th overall. His dad Saki Walker put up some, you know, some fairly solid numbers, especially last season playing in 60 games for the Trailblazers. [Applause] Well, Nick Nurse was talking the media. He said the other day, Jabari Walker was very good in practice. He goes, “What we need is the intensity every single day that we believe in his ability to rebound and get after it in different ways.” And that’s what this time of year is for, as you’ve alluded to. Like th this time of year is about the buildup of a roster of a lineup. What What do teams need? Uh it supersedes that and does not matter. But at this time of year, a lot of it is really about the fit, the needs, and what you’re building. you know, as you head into the season knowing that so much comes into play and for better or worse. Unfortunately, a lot of that does come down to the way things look with injury and what depth you need to add. Turnover here. Big year for Philadelphia coming off that 24 win season and Joel Embiid, Paul George. This big core for Philadelphia. Will we be able to see them all on the floor for a an extended period of time? That is as we get a foul just 15 games together between Embiid, George, and Maxine last year. Obviously, they hope that there’s a different fortune fiveers. You see coach nurse did some terrific foul just 15 games together between Embiid George and Maxine last year obviously they hope that there’s a different fortune five coach nurse did some terrific things in Toronto yeah title Good history. And Sarah, I mean, that that was really incredible in a variety of ways. 76ers fans probably felt that way. An image of Joel Embiid watching that bounce, the Kawhi letter bounce of that three-point shot. But that’s all a part of its beauty. The beauty of this game. So true. Jana Broom is way off. Chandler is fouled. I think at practice just yesterday he said has not determined that yet. Um I think by all accounts there are some names of people that you know it’s starting to surface that it looks like whether it may be Mitchell Robinson or Josh Hart but Deuce McBride was a player that you know thought could to watch his growth. You know, everybody will talk over the next couple weeks and nauseium about as Tyler Kick hits it home about who’s going to start the games, about who the finishing five are. At the end of the day, this is all on a countdown to May who’s finishing games out. I also think too some it’s a it’s a very intense season as you know different teams different matchups different like often times that’s a lot to what it comes down to is matchups and personnel so much is dictated on the course of a a circumstance and situational and night bynight basis that’s why as Chandler knocks it down how many big time situations has Josh Hart been in late in the You know, that’s why a Janser was so good of like, I’m going to do whatever is best for the team. Of course, that that’s why the Knicks are one of the best teams in the league. Kick gets the roll. Tyler Koh with a couple of late buckets. [Music] Turnover by Ryan. They’re going to have some changes because guys are trying to to get to springtime and get to the playoffs, managing health and whatnot. And that’s all you do wish for, especially with these games and getting out of these games. That’s why you hope that Josh Hart is okay and nothing too serious after exiting the game. But just the health of players is of utmost importance and that’s all all you wish on players is to have that type of a availability. I know the summer with 76ers obviously is their main main focus a little bit long and for those who may be joining us late took a little there’s a bunch of Knicks reporters who made that trip out to Abu Dhabi and are with them every single second of the day. So all those fine folks who do a terrific job. Both both B both these teams have amazing people who cover them. You can keep it locked over. You said it quick on the get aheads, that’s what you want to see. A little bit of a transition. The legendary Allen Iverson throwback black Sixers jerseys with with the old school court that that orange lettering on the baseline honoring that 2001 team that made it to the NBA finals. They’re going to do that on a number of occasions. Those will be their throwback nights. Amazing. I can’t wait to see it. That team and AI, they just captured the imagination of the city of Philadelphia. Such a frenzy. [Music] Shot clock down to eight. It’s down to four. Another tough take and a foul. Jabari bear it out or show it quite as much, but you’ve seen the physicality in how he’s played. Trying to use that strength and some of the quickness to get to the front of the cup. All pack 12 selection out of Colorado. plays for Tan Bole out in Boulder. Second down. Tyler spent a lot of his career beating Villanov. But now a two hand jams. Jon getting in on the front. Trey J the third. [Applause] Shot clock trimmed to 10 here. Walker on the tape. Guarded well by JSON and that’s stolen away. Scramble here. Color go rebound to Philadelphia as we hit the last 86. That’s a big collision call that all of these players have given here today. One thing that both these teams said, Mike Brown, year one, nice for a team to take a trip like this. They’re all together. They’re all bonding. They’re doing different activities. Nickner said it’s very good for us cuz we need our culture. We’ve got to respond. Yep. and and that’s you know that’s a part of three clanks off the left side. Malcolm Hill has checked in here late. Here’s Kick behind the back. Tyler Koh. Tyler Koh from a very off the radar recruit to George Mason to Marquette where he went to a sweet 16 to the New York Knicks. Amazing rise. beginning an NBA contract. Jabari Walker. A little two-man game with him and Dominic Carlo working some interior passing. [Music] McCuller with a spin gathering. Sticking it back with Jem. As soon as we hit the final seconds here in Abu Dhabi, there’s a full house at the start of this one. They watch the superstars hit the floor for the Knicks. Bridges and Brunson Town sit pull off some of their magic as that will do it. The Knicks are a winner in their preseason opener. with his two teams align it
