Four innings pitched, four strikeouts, gave up only two hits. Taillon deserves some props for his performance in yesterday’s do-or-die game.

I love having two JT’s on this team 😎

Script be damned, I’d have had him start the 5th.
I know, lefties, but it pushes the script back and maybe Keller doesn’t have to try to go 2 innings.
One props coming right up. Dude was exactly what we needed
Going into this series the talk was “Padres dominate pitching staff, especially bullpen”
Yet the Cubs pitching rotation and relied pitchers held their ground very well, and its not talked about.
He was apparently quoted prior to this start as these situations being part of why he was signed. And he delivered.
Next year is looking pretty decent with Cade and Justin along with our other guys like Jamo to provide solid parts of the rotation.
Jamawesomen Taillon
He’s going to be a real weapon in these playoffs if he keeps pitching like yesterday.
As Pads manager said Swanson single handily won this series with his glove. Taillon was nails! It honestly was a full team effort. It’s hard to win a 3 games series scoring 6 total runs.
Man I felt great with him for g3. Dude has been shoving
Obviously I get why they pulled him but I also believed he could have kept going. A clutch game when we needed it the most
Anthony Rizzo came up to him on a mound visit in NY and said to Jamo “I know you only have one nut, but right now you need to pitch like you have two”
And yesterday he damn well did
Who would have thought after seeing the bullpen in April that the bullpen would be so damn good. We started with Ryan Pressly, Porter Hodge, Ryan Merryweather, Eli Morgan for our high leverage situations; all of them not on the big league team.
They are replaced by: Palencia who turned into the closer, failed starter Keller turning into a high leverage reliever, 36 year old Pomeranz who did not pitch in the majors since 2022 being nails, 38 year old Thielbar who looked cooked last year coming in doing well.
I think Taillon could have gone one more inning. I *especially* thought so when Counsell was trying to squeeze an extra inning out of Keller and he was all over the place in the ninth. But unc came in to notch the save. All’s well that ends well.
Taillon said he wanted the ball and he wanted to be that dude for the Cubs. Well, he was that dude. Got that dog in him, for sure.
Taillon is another player who some people on this sub were always hard on, just like Dansby. And both came up huge this playoff series. Vets doing vet things.
Dude has got one big ball
He did what you want your starter to do.
The game has changed so much, a 4-inning outing by a starter is now considered an accomplishment.
