Scotty Red Wings won their sixth pres I’m sorry, their seventh preseason game, their first of two dress rehearsal games against the Toronto Maple Leafs. And honestly, it was pure domination by the Detroit Red Wings from start to finish. So, while we’ll sit here and try not to get too high on the highs and too low on the lows because it is still preseason, it is getting closer to the regular season, the games are getting tighter and the Red Wings still performance was still electric. So, we will talk about it. We’ll talk about the the good from this game and a little bit of the bad. There wasn’t too much, but we’ll touch on it as well before, of course, getting to um the roster cuts in segment three. But before we get to that, got to let you guys know today’s episode is brought to you by FanDuel. All right, Scotty, we saw two lineups between Detroit and Toronto that were very NHL veteranheavy as you would expect. Mlen said going, he said early in the preseason that the last two games you’d see mostly what the NHL lineup’s going to look like, but that didn’t stop him from sneaking a couple of top prospects in there who have been playing very well throughout the preseason. As again, you would expect. It’s not going to be the entire NHL lineup, but Michael Bransteard, EMTT Finny, and Axel Sundine Pelica all played with Detroit in this hockey game. I thought all three of them looked very good and were very noticeable in a positive way throughout this hockey game. Um, and I’m sure we’ll talk about all of those guys, but before we I get ahead of myself and I just start rambling about the game, why don’t you give us your difference maker? So, I I don’t want to I don’t want to steal your thunder, but I We always come with two for a reason. So you can steal my thunder. I’ll have a backup. Well, because so where I’m at, this was I mean genuine domination really. Uh the the fact that the the fact that this was as close of a game as it was in the score sheet is honestly just because of incredible goalending and like eventually the seal broke there at the end. Um, like I I thought the Wings were very clearly the better team on the ice for this entire game. I think if you’re looking for an individual player, then EMTT Finny yet again is is a difference maker, man. And it’s not just even if you take out like the empty net or whatever, even if you take that out, you still have an assist and I think a team high, if not a forward high in hits in this game. like he was everywhere. He he was he was all over the ice. As you mentioned before we hit record, he got moved up the top line. Um in this game like he he Oh, I it’s the most hits between either team. I was going to wait until you were done though. Okay. No, I just you had a a look as if you were ready to say something and so I I was but I was I was of course I was waiting my turn. Got it. So um yeah, I I mean I I just think he was Especially because to your point, it’s a dress rehearsal game, man. Like, this was a really impressive performance for a guy that I I can’t even believe I’m saying this very might end up on this hockey team on opening night, dude. Like, that is I I I don’t think it’s it’s very far from a guarantee, certainly. and we’ll see how the last preseason game looks and goes, but I I I think it would be ignorant to at not at least address the fact that it’s a possibility at this point. And I think he was absolutely fantastic in this one yet again. You know what’s funny is I I am further ahead of this on you. Like I am the guy who’s like this is almost a damn near lock at this point for I love it. I hope you’re right. I really do. Well, look at So we we talked about it a little bit yesterday. Austin Watson, who going into the preseason was your de facto 13th forward, got waved and cleared waiverss, by the way. We’ll talk about that in segment three. Uh, little tease for you guys. Um, so that opened up a 13th forward spot to be on this team. And in my opinion, with Danielson, it was coming down to Carter Mer or EMTT Finny. And obviously, we’re huge Mer supporters. I thought Carter Maser going into the preseason would supplant Austin Watson, but obviously at some point yes, he’s an NHL player, but as the preseason has gone on, EMTT Finny has his stocks have gone to the moon. Like he is playing phenomenal. And you know, he he faded a little bit in the last couple games. Not that he was playing poorly, but he just became less noticeable. And I almost wonder if you know there was a sit down and it’s like listen you’re playing really really good because EMTT Finny for who he is and where he was drafted he’s going to have to continue to prove it every single night to stick on this roster even after the regular season begins. Like his job his earning his spot on this roster doesn’t end on game one if he makes the team. He has to continue to do it to beat out the stigma of being a seventh round pick right having just 10 professional hockey games before this with Grand Rapids. It’s going to have to be continual. So I almost wonder if he was sat down it’s like you are playing really really well but we need you to unlock another gear to you know ensure to us that you’re ready and it felt like he accomplished that in this game. You know he had a secondary assist on the Dylan Larkin goal. It was a nice cycle play by the Detroit Red Wings in the offensive zone um where he fed the puck to Shot. Shot took the shot. Larkin deflected then got his own rebound. Secondary assist. Got an assist. It was nice. Then he got the empty net goal. I’m not going to bismerch him for the empty net goal because he earned that goal. With how well he played, that goal felt very earned for EMTT Finny. He also had four shots on Ford, which is tied for second most among anyone on the team only behind Alex Debrink who had five. Uh he was all over the there was that one point I tagged uh you know Red Wings prospects on social media and I was like cuz they clip a lot of highlights that you know aren’t goals and I asked I said can you clip that shift by EMTT Finny because in that one shift he skated full tilt up and down the ice creating opportunities in the offensive zone. I’m trying to have it written down here I believe. Yeah, it led to a beautiful, this is right after he got the secondary assist on the Larkin goal, too. It was like his next shift. He made a great for check to get possession down low behind the net. Fed a great backhand pass through the crease to Simon Edison who got stoned by Stellar who was great all night. And then he busted butt all the way back down to make get make sure he was back in defensive position in the offensive zone to then start another rush going back up ice before coming all the way back. And it’s so funny cuz at the end of that shift, he’s in the defensive zone in position, but he’s not like digging for the puck cuz you can literally see him heaving for air. Like his shoulders are like comically going up and down cuz he just left it all out on the ice. He was just trying to survive until he could change for his next shift. And I’m like, that is exactly the kind of shift a guy like Emtt Finny has to have to prove to Todd Mlullen he can make he needs to make he needs to be on this hockey team. And that wasn’t the only nice play that he had in this hockey game either. Like he had other uh plays as well. But uh it’s just those moments really stand out in my head as like okay this is he’s he he’s a damn near lock. Like if he comes back out if he plays on Saturday, if he plays on Saturday and at one point again he got promoted from the fourth line to the first line in this hockey game when he got that assist. So clearly they there was a lot of line juggling in this game. He’s got the versatility to play anywhere in the lineup. He brings a style of game that the top line desperately needs in a in a heavy uh capacity in the corners. He’s got a lot of foot speed, more foot speed than Andrew Cop. And I do think that that is important. Not that I’m bemoning Andrew Cop’s performance. I think he’s acquitted himself nicely on left wing one, but I think there’s more value for him at center on the third line. His ability to play up and down the lineup. He doesn’t have an I don’t believe he has an entry contract entry level contract slide which means the clock is starting anyways so you don’t have to worry about like burning a year. He’s got waiver exemption so you can if he does make the team and you find out later he needs more time to mature in a the Grand Rapids Griffins organization you can send him down without worrying about losing him. To me, I’m finding a harder time discussing reasons he shouldn’t make the team at this point over reasons why he should. It just with how he’s performing, a lot of my doubts are starting to fade. And maybe I’m buying too high in preseason stocks of a seventh round prospect, but I think a lot of people in the fan base would agree. In fact, I know Ryan Hannah, Windheel Podcast, you know, one of our contemporaries, great podcast. Give them a listen as soon as you’re done with us if you if you can find the time. and he agrees. Like I saw him tweet like, “You can’t send EMTT Finny down or something along those lines after this game.” And it’s just they’re so good. He’s so good. So I I rambled. I didn’t even get to my difference maker, but EMTT Finny Finsity as it’s being claimed on social media is is insane right now. It absolutely is. Anyways, let’s head to a a quick break. Scotty, when we return, I’ll get to my difference maker and then we’ll talk about other notable performers and performances from the hockey game. Stay tuned to Lockdown Red Wings. And I mean that because I have really, this is another thing that I was talking about very heavily on social media before we recorded is that I’ve really fallen in love with this team’s style of game here in the preseason. You know, we saw a very conservative hockey team under Derrick Lone and he’s flipped the script. And we’ve talked about it before on this podcast, but this all gas, no breaks uh performance by the Detroit Red Wings that we’ve seen multiple times in the preseason, like this 43 shot performance by them is not an outlier. Like they’ve done this multiple times because they forche so hard. They force turnovers. They keep the puck in the offensive zone. They’re aggressive in the neutral zone. So they have the puck more often, which then thereby exposes their shallow defense less in the defensive zone because you have the puck more. It’s working for them because they’re an offensive oriented roster. If you look up and down their lineup, it’s a lot of guys who want to score goals. Yeah. In the in the, you know, the guys who are going to get the most time on the ice at least. So, we’ve seen it a lot this preseason. We’ve come to love it. and this game as a dress rehearsal like kind of reinforces this might work. Again, trying not to get too high on preseason performances, but knowing this was a dress rehearsal, knowing this isn’t the first time we saw this, I think if this is anywhere close to how they’re going to play in the regular season, I think this team’s going to be a lot more fun than maybe we thought they would going in. Doesn’t mean that their blemishes are gone, their holes are gone. and they still have very glaring holes on their roster, but this style of play may help, you know, compensate, cover up for those holes a little bit. So, I I think Todd Mlen has he came in here, he said when he got hired, you know, my job is to find a style of play that suits this team. And so far through just the preseason, and again, always keep that in mind. and it’s just the preseason, but in the preseason here, I’ve really liked the mindset and the play style this team has taken on 100%. And that was one of the things that when I was going back and forth on which difference maker, mine was going to be the the forch specifically. So, I guess, you know, in to to some extent, we just had the same two difference makers and I think giving it to Mlen makes sense there. But yeah, man. This this style, this very aggressive go and and apply pressure on the puck handler style, I I think truly is I think you worded it well there, like it truly is necessary given how shallow they are on the back end, right? We’ve talked about that all summer. What is a way that you can again I don’t know if hide is necessarily the the like correct word but for lack of a better term hide or you know cover up whatever like that is yeah like that’s that’s how and that is such an effective way and on top of that you have outside of Patrick Kane like you have such a young core you have such a young roster that has the ability to play that style and and you should be able to last through 82, man. Like that. I think it’s fantastic. It’s also something we’ve been begging for this team to get better at for a while. And it actually, this is going to shock people, gives you the ability to win a game and have the advantage at five on five. And that is something that this team, since you and I have been covering this team together and been doing this show together, this team has been garbage at even strength, the entirety of that. They have at no point been even a a league average even strength team. And so I think that that is the most exciting part, right? Like last year you saw the steps forward taken on the power play. It was one of the best in the entire NHL. Obviously, the penalty kill was an atrocity. You hope that that can get fixed, but if you have even a a league average to slightly below league average kill, the power play continues to be dynamic and you have this style of play that can lead to effective high-end advantage five on five play and you have John Gibson and that for you know twothirds of the year playing like we know that he can. That is how you start building a team that could actually exceed expectations and get back into the postseason. Those are the types of things you need. You need to think outside of the box and and think of ways and strategies and personnel groups, whatever to again flourish despite your shortcomings when it comes to roster construction. And that is so far in the preseason what they have done. Now, ultimately, they’re zero and zero in the games that count, right? We will see what happens, right? Um, this is certainly a Maple Leafs team that that was not I I don’t think, uh, trying their hardest. They didn’t have a lot of fire in this game. But, uh, for a group that was largely going to be the opening night roster, I think it’s very encouraging to see what we’ve seen so far this, uh, this preseason. Yeah. And Scotty, you were talking about the five on five performance. So, the Red Wings finished this game with 43 shots on net officially. 30 of those came at five on five. They outshot the Maple Leafs at five on five 30-6. So, again, preseason performance. Take it all with a grain of salt. But it’s also okay to recognize I like how they’re playing and it’s okay to enjoy it. It’s a preseason win, but you can still enjoy a W for the sake of it being a W. So Scotty, we have a lot of other players to talk about, but I would be remiss not to also mention this when it comes to EMTT Finny. EMTT Finny as of right now is the nightly leader on hockey stats in game score. Now, I believe there are a couple games maybe still actually no, these are all East Coast games. These games might all be done. Yeah, there’s a game in Utah being played and there’s a game in St. Louis being played. So, the night’s not over, but as it is of 10:18 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, the EMTT Finny leads the the league in nightly game score at 3.36. Obviously leading the Red Wings in game score at 3.36. Um, Simon Edson, Ben Sherro, Travis Hamnik, all behind EMTT Finny as the best skaters according to hockey stats. Also 2, three, and four on the nightly skaters chart across the league. something that’s crazy to look at. But he was also second on the team in expected goals four percentage in tonight’s game at five on five with an expected goals four percentage of 90% and second on the team in Corsy four percentage and that’s just shot attempts. Again, it’s not really an advanced analytic. It’s shot attempts 78%. EMTT Finny led the team with the eye test. He led the team with the points in this game and he led the team with the advanced analytics. He’s got to be on this hockey team, man. I’m I’m fully on board the hype train. And like again, that is that is when you look at teams that exceed expectations, right? Or teams that finally break out of that mediocre kind of middle of the pack, right? That is something that you need. And I’m not saying that like EMTT Finny by himself is the X factor of what this team does this year. Those are the kind of stories you need, right? That is that is what those teams historically you look at, okay, like how did they exceed expectations? Well, X, Y, and Z came out of the woodworks and we didn’t expect it and then it happened, right? EMTT Finn is a guy that we literally did not mention all summer until training camp as a legitimate, you know, uh, contributor or factor on the team this year. And now there’s a legitimate chance on opening night he’s playing top line. Like that is a real possibility. And that is the kind of stuff you need. You need seventh round picks to end up being way better than they were projected to be. You need players to be expected to have, you know, 20, 30 point seasons and end up having 50, 60 point seasons. That is what needs to happen. And so far this preseason, you’re not only seeing that from the personnel side, but you’re seeing the X’s and O’s and and kind of the the strategy that they’re playing with on a nightly basis lead to a lot of production from top to bottom as well. Man, I am I’m fired up. Okay, let’s go. Tigers, the the wings look fantastic. The the city’s got a lot of momentum going for it. I am absolutely amped, dude. I’m ready. Christian McAffrey has to be 21 points. I’m Yeah, man. I’m I’m ready. Like I I am so ready to to be locked into this season and like am I ready to get hurt again too? Absolutely. Like that that you know that that’s bound to happen, I’m sure. But I am I I think the vibes around this team are probably the best they’ve been in the last couple of years as far as heading into opening night. Yeah. And you know what I just realized? We’re 20 minutes in. I never made a background for this episode. So we’re just going to rock with the background from yesterday’s episode. You’re a mythical human, dude. Vibes are high on a preseason win. What a time to be alive. Scotty, we still have a whole hoe. We spent two segments on our difference makers. That’s how you contributed the few minutes of it. Um, we’ll spend segment three on the There’s a lot. That’s the shame, too. It’s like it feels like we’re not going to be able to give everyone the love they deserve in this episode. So, even if we don’t talk at length, even if I don’t talk at length about other players, like that doesn’t mean I didn’t like what they see. It’s like what we saw. It’s just that there’s not enough time every in any given episode in games like this where everyone performs so well. So, we’ll let to segment three. We’ll cover everything else that we thought we liked in this episode. Stay tuned to Lockdown Red Wings. [Music] All right. I thought if EMTT Finny is an absolute lock in my opinion to make this roster at this point, I don’t think MBN and ASP are very far behind. I also loved their games today. Uh ASP on power play unit one on the flank is not something I had considered. Like it’s so funny. The standard in the NHL is one P one defenseman on the power play and then four forwards that I completely neglected the idea of going back to like the classic two defenseman on the power play, one of them on the flank. And it makes so much sense with the shot that ASP has and the vision that he has for him to be on one of those flanks. Maybe as a quarterback too in the future, but right now you have more at Cider. I thought he looked really good in the offensive zone. I thought he looked fine in the defensive zone too. Um, I thought it was a good game by ASP and MBN as well. MBN obviously had a fantastic cycle chance that that whole second line because MBN was playing with Casper and Dbrinket in this hockey game. Had a fantastic chance too. I’m trying to I have it written down here. Um, De Brinket carried the puck across the blue line. He got it low. He cycled it behind the net. Then he passed it to the middle to Michael Branstead Nigard who passed it back on the boards to Albert Johansson who then passed it to a Marco Casper was breaking down the middle for a great scoring chance. It was a beautiful play and then he of course had the primary assist on a no look behind the back pass to Alex to Brinket for what ended up being the game-winning goal. So, both of their performances were really good. And I have to say, and I did not expect to say this this offse this preseason, I think both of them are further ahead in their development than I thought they would be. I think that they’re right behind EMTT Finny and Nate Danielson and Carter Mazer for like being NHL ready. They’re a lot closer than I thought they were. Yeah. So, the big one there is ASP for me. I mean that that’s a guy that at the beginning of the preeason I remember talking about uh based on like camp red and white game. I don’t remember how much playing time he had there but um I I remember in his first preseason game specifically kind of talking about yeah you know you can see the shortcomings still right like you can you can see what he still needs to work on. um you can tell that he’s not NHL ready and in the span of you know 52 preseason games I guess but like in the span of the rest of the preseason we’re I mean I I completely agree with you. I think in this game this was the best performance he’s had wearing a winged wheel sweater and I think that it it you know it’s again it’s it’s a lot in a short sample size right he he will go to Grand Rapids. I’m I’m almost certain of that and you hope that he can make that, you know, a consistent night in and night out thing. But I completely agree with you. I think he looked way more comfortable in this game and I think that you are really seeing the high-end kind of flashes of what he can bring to a blue line as kind of a quarterback facilitator. And uh that’s really exciting. And then yeah, MBN’s just been a stud all honestly all preseason. I I’ve really liked what I’ve seen from him pretty much since camp started. Uh and it doesn’t always lead to point production, so it’s not always something that, you know, people are going to talk about or that we talk about, but he plays a hard-nosed brand of hockey. And um as we saw in the sixth preseason game, uh he he’s got a heck of a shot, too. So, yeah, I the kids are all right, man. The kids are all right. It’s uh exciting. Simon Edmonson first game back uh after an injury. So, his first look at preseason hockey, trying to get his legs back underneath him. What’ you think of his performance in this one? Yeah, fine. I mean, again, you’re really more than anything, I’m not worried about him being really good this year. Like, as long as he stays healthy, that’s all I care about in preseason. I’m just looking for him to again just appear to be regular season NHL ready. I don’t really care about the the performances necessarily. He had a couple really good opportunities. He shot one off the near side post. Obviously, there was the opportunity that EMTT Finny fed him, I believe, in the second period when it was part of that really long finish shift. That was really good. Uh he leveled Matthew N at the end of the first and then N came back and elbowed him in the face and got himself a double minor. Uh, so I’m just glad that Edmonson’s okay because, you know, elbows like that are very easy, you know, concussion generators. So, I’m glad he was okay. But I I really like Simon Edson’s game in this one. Uh, I still love that he’s not afraid to jump up into the offense and get involved there. Like you said, kids are all right. And if you’re Simon Edson, you’re looking at the contract signed by Luke Hughes and what was the the the Ducks defenseman whose name is escaping me right now. That was signed just today. Big deal. Lackome like that. He Yeah, it was $9 million. We’re getting his name, too. Yeah. And if I’m Simon Evansson and I see him get $9 million on 42 points, I’m going, okay, I I might be able to break $9 million with the cap going up again another 10 million next season. So, this is a big year for Simon Edmonson, and I think we’re he’s going to have quite a lot of motivation to play really well. So, we’ll see. It’s going to be interesting year. Uh, Scotty, I mean, we’re already running low on time. Stellar and Talbet. I thought I thought Anthony Stellars was lights out in this hockey game. I thought he was going to steal the second star. I mean, he was I think he was one of the three stars. He was fantastic. Yeah, I thought he was going to steal this hockey game. I legit thought the Red Wings were going to play like one of those games where you just outplay the opponent and the goalie steals it. I mean, I start at the top of the show, right? like they the Wings dominated this game and the box score doesn’t you know the final score rather doesn’t really maybe seem like that and his expected goals against in this hockey game in all situations is 5.63 the Wings only scored two on him that’s actually disturbing his goal saved above expected was 3.63 63 cuz one was an empty net goal so that doesn’t count against him. It’s insanity. I thought Talbett for what it’s worth was good too. Obviously the workload was not nearly as much but he made big saves when he was supposed to. The one goal he allowed was a Toron was Austin Matthews rip from the point on the power play on a somewhat broken play. Do not blame him whatsoever for that. Y um yeah I I thought they both looked good. Stellars was lights out. Uh there’s so many other players we could mention but we just don’t have the time. I actually thought Hamick looked pretty good. Yeah, sure. First time this preseason, I thought he’s looked good. Um, all right, let’s move on to stuff then. Red Wings made roster cuts and roster moves today. Uh, today being Thursday, they officially reassigned Sheldon D, Austin Watson, uh, John Leonard, Ian Mitchell, Dominic Shine, and William Logesson to the Grand Rapids Griffins after they cleared waiverss. In addition to that, they reassigned Amadeus Lombardi, Andre Bcher, uh, Auntie Tuisto, and Sebastian Kosa to the Grand Rapids Griffins as well. Uh, meanwhile, they placed Nate Danielson and Shai Buou as on the injured non-roster list because they’re both banged up and since they’re both hurt, they cannot be reassigned to Grand Rapids. That’s just a rule. So, don’t look too much into that. That’s what they have to do in that situation. And if they cannot play cuz they’re hurt, they can’t be assigned down to the AHL. So, their roster is now down to 28 as we enter the final preseason game. So, five more roster spots need to be cleared. Five more cuts need to be made before the Red Wings have their opening night roster. So, we’ll be locking into that and watching that with a close eye as we uh as we approach opening night. We sure will. Scotty, anything else to add? I mean, there’s still a ton we could add, but anything else that is No, I mean, I I I thought the regulars looked good. I thought Larkin looked great. I thought I think Cat had a phenomenal game. Yes. Um I love Cat’s. He’s got so much heart. He hustles. Who had the pass to Cat? Who had that? That was MBN. Michael Brand. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. That that was a fantastic play. that like no look behind the back on his knees, whatever the heck. Aljo, too. I thought El Man, I continue I’m telling you, I continue to be impressed. I think he’s had like very quietly one of the best preeasons on the entire roster. Genuinely, I think he looks great. Yeah, only he only he was only out there for one shot against that five on five in this game. Yeah. So, no, I think that’s it. Like I said, man, I’m I’m pumped up. Vibes are high. Uh hopefully just stay healthy for one more dress rehearsal game and and let’s carry that momentum on to the regular season and get off to a hot start. I think that would go a long way. So, and again, like if if you’re winning games that way the the way that they did in in again, it’s preseason, whatever, but if you um if they win games that look like this, there will be a lot more confidence that sustainable unlike in previous years where it’s like, oh, you go on a hot streak, but like you get outshot by 20 every game and like whatever. You know what I mean? Like that’s even when they were good last year, we were like, oh, we’re kind of like waiting for the shoe to drop. That that’s been the last three years of hockey. So, I’m I’m hoping that this year can maybe be a little bit more of a a sustainable approach. So, we’ll see, man. Yeah, we ball. Great preseason so far and one game left. We do ball. We’ll be back on Monday with a our final preseason game recap. Then we have a couple days between then and the home opener where they’ll be rocking the Centennial jerseys. So, stay tuned for that. Same time, same place, your team every day.
It is getting harder and harder to find reasons to keep Emmitt Finnie off this roster as he has ANOTHER impressive performance. He was not alone though, as Michael Brandsegg-Nygard and Axel Sandin-Pellikka also look strong in an overall dominating win by the Detroit Red Wings. Simon Edvinsson looked solid in his first preseason game too. #LGRW

You know what never crossed my mind during the game?
Compher
Its almost as if he knows what he's doing…
Roles eyes at yzerman haters
LGRW ๐
If Finnie doesn't make the roster it'll tell us if we have the right coach
What's absolutely insane is that if not for Finnsanity we'd be talking about how nuts it is that MBN should be already a lock on this team. The youth in this organization showed OUT this pre-season. Even when they weren't scoring they were flying around the ice and making some really great passes and quick releases. Sure it's just pre-season but it's good to see the hunger and drive outta the young guys.
MBN, FIN, ASP … theirs no way in Hell they don't get spots all better than Holl, Compher, Ras, Berg
Gibson enjoyed this game more than anyone.
Detroit out worked Toronto. Maintaining this kind of engagement wears down after awhile. Tough to bring that intensity every night.
My 2026 dream that would change everything for Detroit and catapult us over the Habs and Sens: Yzerman uses his war chest of cap space and newly freed roster spots on defense in the 2026 UFA to sign Quinn Hughes and Kyle Connor.
The Wings 26-27 top 6 (if they acquire Connor)..
Connor – Larkin – Raymond
Debrincat – Kasper – Kane
The Wings 26-27 top 4 (if they acquire Quinn Hughes)..
Hughes – Seider
Edvinsson – Sandin-Pellika
With Finnie I said this the first time I saw him play a full game in pre-season. He skates like Kariya and wins pucks like Zetterberg. He will be an All-star within 5 years. ASP is already the 3rd best D in the organization. There is no way he develops as fast in AHL versus going against NHL talent. Please pair ASP with Edvission. Nygard's shot reminds me of Shannys. Absolute missiles. He should also make the team; he is NHL ready now.
Please please please stop with the ASP is "not NHL ready." Half the veteran D are not NHL ready. ASP should be top 4 D on opening night. He will supplant Seider as 1st D power play within 2 years. Seider isn't bad, but ASP is just that good and so quick with his decision making, and I have seen very few D in my entire life as a fan (close to 50 years) that can walk the blue line like him. So maybe we should focus on his strengths versus whine about mistakes that every veteran on this pathetic D makes year after year.
Emitt Finnie isn't even a player in Yahoo, why?
Finnie will stay 100%. MNB and ASP look good. ASP could possibly benefit from another year in GR because he's not quite at 100% defensively yet, but otherwise I don't see any reason. Even third pairing with less playing time would be better for him than 24 minutes on the first line in GR, since he'll never get that much time in Detroit anyway.
I hope that many young players will be given the chance to gain experience this year, even if it means not reaching the playoffs. However, the team looked very good yesterday!
Great game. So how to keep up some young guys. Us waiving gustofson, hull, and maybe rass an option? To go to griffins. Do we think asp, nygard, an Finnie stay up?
I would also send mazure back to griffins
Only complaints i have, is all these mid players clogging up the roster. Blocking guys like MBN or Emmitt, from starting on the Wings.
What message is it going to send if we send Emmett and mbn down.
MBN kinda reminds me of David Perone out there
Let the young Hot Dogs play! ๐ญ
Too bad itโll fall to Cumpher, Holl, Hamsammich, and Copp ๐
I think getting hyped on pre season performance is fair. Last year I sold my life savings for Marco Kasper stocks and he worked out very well last year. I'm all in on Finnie! This has been such a a fun development story
Finnie has to be on the roster.
I agree ! ! Finnie has to be on the team!
I said that after watching the early pre-season games!! Look at that beauty pass to Mazur. Keep this kid on the roster. I believe that he is hungry. And remember that we must be patient because there will be times he is off.
The cool thing about him getting an empty netter is he's being trusted to be out there for the last minute of a game. It's cool to get a stat stuffer but being used in key situations is the big take away.
Finnie is not gonna get sent down. I just don't see it. He works too damn hard and just makes it happen.
MBN will probably start in GR but will force his way into the lineup VERY soon.
ASP might immediately force Stevie and Todd to make a couple tough decisions on the blue line. He looked better than all the other bottom pair guys.
Gotta feeling there will be some surprising cuts.
Are see finally seeing Yzermanโs vision coming to fruition?
Ras and berg need to go and let these kids play
I am all with you guys on Finne and given the other options it would be absolutely criminal to have him outside of the roster AND he should start in the top line.
Is Finnie finna make the team and avoid Grand Rapids entirely? ๐
Finnie should 100% make the opening night roster. Hot take: ASP should replace Holl, without question.
Finnie will be the Marco Kasper of last year.
So Brian, which Centennial jersey are you getting?
Brian is back! Adam has to be on this team! ๐
Can we talk about questionables like Berggren and Soderblom? Should they be replaced with young blood like Mazur, Finnie, Danielson, and MBN?
I think, MBN, Finnie and Danielson when healthy should be on the roster. They played so much better than certain vets last shout be put on IR and see what they have in the 3 players and if they are better for the team. If so try and make trades and if not able to trade the vets waive them. These kids played hard and deserve more time to see if they have to work on anything. ASP should be given a chance since they played Toronto he was much better.
MBN has been unreal too. Finnie and MBN both deserve to make the roster. Bergy unfortunately has shown the past years and all preseason that he should be moved so that both MBN and Finnie can make the roster.
Their play style is indicative of their head coach being a better coach and leader. Todd has changed the way they play the game and their team mentality is the most valuable part of their play style and the fact that they are not making many mistakes in their own zones is a huge testament to the head coach ability to make a big impact in their team play style and Iโm truly excited to see what this team can achieve in a full season. ๐๐ค๐๐
Preseason hype season is back!
Reminds me a lot of Soderblom in 2022. Elmer was a 6th round draft pick that played too well in preseason to be sent down.
I just hope he doesn't fizzle out after 20-25 games and get sent down like Soderblom did in his first season.
What is with all of the hyphenated last names?
Roster decisions were made last night. That's why Stevie, Horcoff, and Clarey were there.
Brian always says "BransDEGG" when it's actually pronounced "BrandSEGG"
