Some really wonderful quotes in this piece: “All my partner could say was, ‘This was our spot,’” Foley said as they both had tears in their eyes. “‘This was our spot.’”
Damn this was my spot as well.
Long live watermelon hell or high
I read the article but I still don’t fully understand the reason they are closing. The place always seemed packed with customers.
Does anyone know why it’s closing?
Sad to see it go. I’m from Salt Lake and our family happened upon it by accident the first time we visited San Francisco for a game. It became the one place we made sure to come back to anytime we were in town, and this despite the fact that we are all teetotaler Mormons LOL Just had a good vibe and good food.
Craft beer is slowly (and not so slowly) cratering. Between soft demand, changing tastes with new drinkers (and less drinkers), tariffs and other costs of doing business. You’ll see more and more going under, unfortunately.
Don’t really care about the beer, but I’ll miss Dave’s ad-reads for the 21st out.
Anyone got some good suggestions for pre game spots now?
I was a regular visitor in SF in the 2010’s and still try to come out at least every other year. Lots of memories here over the years, and drank their stuff long before that. So sad to see it go.
That’s devastating, I always go to 21st Amendment before a game 🙁
Bummer. That was one of my go-to places for lunch for 10 years when I worked close by. It was always packed, and on game days they closed the alley and set up tables outside.
21A, love it. Love the place, loved the beer (I’m sober now, 3.5 years!!!!), just all around excellent vibes.
In 2005 I went on a date with the hottest guy I’ve ever been with. He took me to 21A and we watched Sunday Night Baseball and he talked to me about biofuels. I was the smitten kitten.
I’m happily married to someone else now. But that night will always have a special place in my heart.
Damn, this is sad to hear…I worked a block away in SoMa from 21A during the peak 2010s dynasty years and the place was always lively and packed full of Giants fans. Beer was good and the food was solid. Have some good memories of this place the handful of times I went back then and now wish i’d have been able to go more recently.
