Well this is super depressing, WS caliber pitching the past 2 years. Offense failed us.

  1. Wait, this Tripp guy’s analysis is just wrong. We scored 10 runs against the Yankees, and 16 against the Mariners, both of which he omitted because it didn’t fit his analysis. He also moves the goalposts for the Cubs because we scored 10 runs in that series. I’m not saying that we oughtn’t to have scored more runs, but these guys suck at actually arguing their points.

  2. Not like they didn’t try. Some great offensive players. And they made moves at the deadline to bring in offense.

  3. I remember hearing on the radio a while ago that ALL playoff teams in the NL had losing records on the road against other playoff teams, except for the Brewers. But Padres, I believe, had the worst record. This was to be expected. If somebody remembers or has the numbers and it’s different, please correct me.

  4. Padres did have a solution, given they were one of the best 1-run game teams in the league. Give your bullpen a lead, no matter if it’s 1 run or 10 runs.

Playoff games are usually close games and both teams pitched well, played good defense, but the Cubs got that one or two clutch hits, plus a bit more luck.

In Game 3, there were 19 hit balls with expected batting average of .500+. Padres hit 10 of those balls, Cubs hit 9 of those balls. Cubs got a hit all 9 times. Padres only got 4 hits from the 10.

Also, that Darnay Tripp is a bit skewed/selective. Padres won 2 of 3 against Milwaukee in Milwaukee. Could have swept them but back end of the bullpen blew the game in game 3 of the series. Suarez imploded in Game 3 against Cincy or else Padres would have won the game/series.

Padres scored 10 runs against the Yankees, 16 against Seattle.

  5. I just wonder how differently the series would’ve gone if we had Ramon in the lineup, dude was a stud the second he stepped on the field in a padres uniform

  6. sometimes it just doesn’t work out. it took the dodgers 12 years of winning the division and having the best player do a Durant-esque move to get 1 ring

  7. All season we have lacked runs and power hitters, it’s been obvious since May. It’s just under a spotlight more being the postseason.

Cubs scored 6, we scored 5 and we came out with the loss, it wasn’t a high scoring series but despite being only 1 run difference, Cubs showed up and scored when it mattered and we didn’t. It sucks a lot, but whether it was the cubs/brewers/the blue team from LA, we were never going to make a World Series this year based on our regular season performance, let alone win it… especially with such mediocre hitting for more than 80% of the season.

Let’s hope we have a good offseason and construct a good team which can win ball games and also hit when it matters.

We go again in march. See you then fellow friars.
