[De Nicola] Matthew Boyd to start NLDS Game 1 for Cubs on short rest

  1. Short rest but he only threw 50 or so pitches and will probably throw less than that again

  2. Don’t love it. Could pitch him, Imanaga, and Taillon all on extra rest in G2, 3, and 4 and then have him available again on normal rest for G5. Why not just cobble it together with, like, Assad and Soroka in G1 in a game where we’re going to be significant underdogs anyway? Harrumph.

  3. Alternate title:

Matthew Boyd shoves it down the Brewers fuckin throats in NLDS Game 1

  4. Short outings for SP, then short days rest and bring em back. I don’t hate it if the bullpen can hang on for that much slack. Felt like the BP was taxed after just that three game set though.

  5. Craig Counsel is my manager. I ride or die with him. He knows what his team is capable of, we don’t. If he says Boyd is ready, I’m down for mine.

  6. I don’t get why you don’t pitch Rea, yeah he pitched game 2 but only threw 15 pitches and hasn’t pitched since the 26th, but then have Assad available as well. If Rea struggles and save a fresher Boyd for game 2

  7. Unpopular opinion but I would have him pitch at home and have Rea or Javier Assad pitch tomorrow

  8. This is why you get a million pitchers on your roster because they get hurt or hit stretches of being ineffective. We lost Steele, and now Horton is down so they gotta do the best they can with what they got.

Boyd is the best chance they have, it seems like a no brainer decision, short rest or not. The rules go out the window in the playoffs. The bats are almost surely gonna have to pick up the pitchers in these playoffs if the Cubs are going to go deep. No matter what it’s gonna be stress. So much fucking stress
