NHL Preseason Highlights | Wild vs. Blackhawks – October 3, 2025

and Philip Gustoson. Boy oh boy, 58 games last year. Look at that record. 3119 and six with a 2.56 goals against average. He’s a good one. Terrific bounceback season for him a year ago. Puck flipped back towards the high slot. That’s taken away by Burkovsku. A stolen right back. Here’s a shot by Johansson turned aside by Knight. The pressure early by the Wild. That one’s flipped over top of the net. Puck in the corner and up the boards to the line. Not out. kept alive there by Yurichek. Another opportunity over and lost the handle as he made a move and it slides to Knight who’s seen it off and covers up. That’s how quickly the counter gate can happen right there when Frank Gazar has the puck and he made a good pass. It was just firm. He was just off the toe of the blade of line on sharp angle shot off the outside of the post and then hopped over the head of Gustoson blocked down into the crease. They had a great start last season. We talked about it on Sunday. They were the best team in the league early in December and injuries caught up to him. Here’s Patuzi with a play in front. Let’s go. It’s Nazar. He does it again against the Wild and it’s one nothing Hawks. [Music] This happens because of a turnover at the offensive blue line for the Minnesota Wild. The puck’s got to get in deep. It doesn’t. The Hawks take advantage of that and they parlay this three on two perfectly. There’s the play by Kaiser. Why Kaiser holds his ground. Good stick and nice play by Terra Bayan to kind of take the stick, lean in on Bosian. So it made room for the pass to go across to Frank Nazar and then he slides that through the corner. There’s the Wild play all the way down. No ice back to his grizzly. Chip it ahead for Aovsky under pressure. Wild force a turnover and a club save there by Knight as he snags that Sturm shot incoming. Chin music from a teammate. Now they get it through. Here’s Rossy with a man in front. Bulby backhand stopped by Knight. Big save there off Baldby by Spencer Knight. Lackard from the half board. Survey flips it back. Allen takes a look. Plays it over. Renzel with the Rister. They score. Off something in front. Might have gone off Gustoson’s glove, but either way, two nothing Hawks. I think Nick Fino got a piece of this here. Courtney by 17. You see the captain, he’s really battling Brock Favor in front of that net. You had Lafery who’s had a strong start to this game. There’s the shot by the Minnesota boy Renzel and you can see great hands there by the captain Nick Molino going wide by a bunch. Gossip leans over, hits his shoulder and into the net. No carry out. There’s the dump in. Keep the play simple and use his speed to chase it down. Get it. There you go. Shot to blunt save. Gustoson keeps it going but they quick whistle. They blow it down. He says, “Hey, I made a play.” But Sligger drops it off. Good pace. Hawks pressuring. There’s a pass in front again. Chopped towards the goal. Bouncing puck. McC trying to bank it in and down is Gustoson able to make the save on his side. Line as well. Getting the puck in deep down the next line comes on and they do basically do the same thing and hunting that puck and good play by Gus there. I mean it’s underneath him kind of underneath his rear end right there. but he used the paddle of his stick to make sure it didn’t go any further. And it’s been a bit bit of a hot potato for the Wild early on in their own zone right now. Give the Hawks credit for going at them, but you can be sure that John Hines and Minnesota intercepted now by Kaiser. Deflected away and Minnesota works it back the other way. There’s a shot. More of a shot looking for a rebound, but a smart play by Knight. Shot from the line. Trickles through. Pad save. Rebound. Felo can’t get a stick to it. Another shot just wide as your check let it go. Sharp angle turned aside by Knight up to the corner. It’s the most Canadian thing ever out the center. Baldi trying to pull his way through. It winds up in the corner. Capri off in front. Tipped on goal. And a good save there as that was redirected by Rossi on a setup. He gets the puck again. Yeah. And his his relentlessness too is Oh, what a shot that is by Terasenko. Good save by Knight. Knight with inside four to go in the opening period. This puck comes around and Kaiser will protect it. Make a play back to Lionov with a wrist shot deflected in front. Winds up in the corner go plays the puck back to the near corner. That pass off a skate. Now it’s fired back to the line. Played across. Urac long shot. Knight sees that all the way. Quick hands. San Renzel passing across Bernard set there for the one-time. The pass a little pike from Matusi and he, you know, he’s not afraid to say anything to anybody uh especially on the other team and his teammates to to make it a, you know, a better game and a better situation. But these young players are going to they’re going to grow on their own. Take away some old veteran trees in your backyard and that allows a little smaller trees to grow a little faster. And the Hawks are going to go for more. the older teams in the league to start last season to one of the youngest teams in the league this season and that’s all by design obviously and it started really as they made moves towards the deadline and called up guys and let him play and that is the theme here gets a shot away there’s Spencer Knight one of those guys who came over and then he winds up in a heat behind the net as the Hawks chip it ahead and get it out Slagger two-on-one with Ma here comes Slagger right in stopped by Gustinson blocker saying can’t take the pass he might have tipping it across but Nazar in good position to steal. He comes in short-handed all by himself. Back hand shot to side. [Applause] Long feed by Baldi. Finds Capria with a feed over cuts in deep. Sticks with it up the other side. They’ll set it up now. Baldi with a pass over to Terenko with a shot. Scores. Nice shot. Top corner by Teraraenko. And the power play gets Minnesota on the board. That is an amazing on kind of the weaker side. Terrace Angle’s never been a one-time shooter of the puck. He likes going on the left side as a lefty. He’s got very little time and I don’t believe this glanced off the stick of of of Levino 55. As Buam took the puck over to the side and just a great you could hardly hear the sound of the puck coming off the blade of his stick. And yes, it looked to me like it did glance ever so slightly on the top part of the blade of the defenseman. Live to fight another day. Yeah, you got to be afraid to go back and get pucks the way guys can skate. And as you said, you can’t hold up at the blue line like you used to be able to do. Back in the day, guys played offensive line at the blue line blocking for checkers. There’s a shot for the point that’s stopped by Knight and he’s able to hang on. Not sure what that plan was. There’s Capri off slowly into the zone. Brilliant makes a play. Put on goal. Poked away by Knight. Fire back to Capri off. Dropped off William. Will activate finds him in a room. Trying to get in front. Put a pass across and Cris couldn’t get a stick to him. That didn’t quite connect. There’s Terasenko. Tipped towards the goal. Ericette can’t get a shot away as he was bumped by Slagger. Head over to Zoo. Back to the other side. Baldi shoots. Scores another one. Top corner on the power play. Baldi ties this game at two. What a play by Terara Seno on the blue line. He acted as if that pass was going to come to him. And I think the Hawks got maybe caught right here at the middle of the ice there. And now Slagger’s following Terasenko. Leaves the point man Baldi wide open there. And this just glanced. I thought it might have glanced off a stick earlier. Maybe there it changes direction and then it flutters maybe off the glove under the bar and in the net. He might have put Derekson back on the way by Kanger, you know, and land with that. Back to even strength or MAV able to push Capri off with a pass off the puck and here comes Dickinson. Right in the save by what play by MVI takes a look. Capri off still out there off the outside of the post. 20 seconds a little less left in the power playoff one more time. Nice pass. Hartford shot to it in on off Kaiser. Another power boy goal and the Wild take a 3-2 lead. Difference in this game. The special teams for sure and and Hartman smiling cuz he didn’t get a whole lot on this one as he was about to shoot it. It looked like a stick kind of blocked it and he he’s been very very good. But you keep your eye on the left side of the screen right here. And Kaiser’s here. He’s looking he’s got his head up looking looking there and then it just goes off the heel of a stick and into the net. I mean, it was probably about five feet, six feet wide anyway. Just an unlucky two. Yeah. Three big hits, though. I mean, big He was He was He was engaged, especially in that second period. Number five inside nine to go into third. There’s a long bank pass that finds it way to Table Carolina. Plays it over. Here’s Bertusi with a shot at the shoulder of Gus. The puck goes out of play and right to Berusi. And Bertusi, oh boy. Oh, crossar too. Captain plays it in deep. Fed up the boards. Not out. Kept on side by Renel. Feeds it across. Nazar. Bernard. Sto by Gustoson. Oh, Bernard with a one-time on a setup by Nazar. Bernard still with it. 20 seconds to go. Goes the other side. That hit try the bounces back to Bernard. 15 seconds left. Here’s Renel with the ister. Can’t get it through. Tips it across. Carolina puts that toward the ball off a stick in behind. Loose puck to Bernard. shoots. Pat saved by Gustoson. Regel with a shot back in front and that’ll do it. Oh, all sorts of mayhem at the end of the game and the Hawks just can’t find the back of the net for the equalizer. [Music]

Ryan Hartman, Joel Eriksson Ek, and Vladimir Tarasenko each scored, Filip Gustavsson stopped 26 shots, and the Minnesota Wild took a 3-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

  1. It’s amazing how when the goalie gets pulled how the defensive team completely gasses out. Yes I know there is an extra man on the ice and that it is the end of the game but it still amazes me how inept they look.
