  1. Fuck it give me a regular season game with Lekk and Cootes, they more than deserved it

  2. The kids showed up to play!

I actually don’t think EP40 played that bad, very solid defensively, and it’s just preseason.

  3. You give Cootes his 9 games and see what happens.

This game was the test, and they passed with flying colours.

  4. I think this game solidified Willander down in Abby, not that it’s unexpected. He’s got the talent but needs some seasoning, exactly like DPetey at this time last year

  5. Cootes is so good defensively that I think he’s ready for at least a 3C role but we probably shouldn’t rush him to the big league too soon… what a good dilemma to have on though!

  6. Bains experiment is over. Loved this guy story. Undrafted in the Dub, grinded his way to a contract in hometown team, but never really figured it out. At least he got a chance to wear our jersey on the ice, something most of us will never do. He’s still young, so I hope he has a long career ahead of him

  7. Have to think this is the 23.

    DeBrusk – Pettersson – Boeser
    Raty – Chytil – Garland
    Kane – Cootes – Lekkerimaki
    O’Connor – Blueger – Sherwood
    Karlsson

    Hughes – Hronek
    Pettersson – Myers
    Forbort – Mancini
    Joseph – Pettersson

    Demko
    Lankinen

  8. These last two games have convinced me how dogshit of a coach Tocc was. Not just the boring ass system of dump and chase, and feeding the point. But watching how well we’ve adapted to an uptempo style shows me that he’s a bad coach for how consistently he would throw the players under the bus for not implementing what they practice.

  9. Any game where the Petey line locks down the McDrai line with 0 even strength goals against is a win in my books

  10. Very noticeable how little dump and chase we are doing this preseason. That alone is a dub. Foote is clearly his own coach, and not an extension of Tocc which I was worried about. We seem to give up more defensively as well, but we are also generating many more chances ourselves. If Demko and Lankinen can turn up, we can breeze into the playoffs, assuming no big injuries

  11. Wilander needs a few seasons to develop his game. Made a few bad reads and panic plays with the puck. Not good in the corners. Haven’t seen him stand out in a good way. Cootes was all over the ice and played a strong 200 foot game. The kid battles and reads plays well. Had a great primary assist on the first goal and broke up a dangerous scoring chance in the D zone. I can see why all the vets say he plays the game the right way.

  12. We are lucky to have Demko. Lekki needs to stay up.

Kane needs to be more steady for the veteran heavy role. Some lazy back checking. Poor positioning cost him two goal chances. Similar chances that Leki aced.

Roots for Cootes! The sentiment about his IQ being way ahead of the age curve is so true.

Garland really put the pedal down at the end, nice hustle.

  13. Yall want ep40 to produce like an offensive god, and while he’s done that in the past, what if he becomes one of the better defensive centres in the league (he already is IMO) and we still have the offence elsewhere to win games? All the that matters is winning games

  14. I know people talk about our lack of forward top end talent, but to give management credit they really have rebuilt our D core. It’s making me way more optimistic about the long term defensive depth of our group.

  15. Did The top line do well shutting down McDrai? Yes. Do I wish they showed a bit more offensively? Yes. Both can be true.

I do think from what I’ve seen Petey seems to almost look like he’s not sure what to do with his extra strength. Like he’s testing what he can get away with. I saw a shift in the Flames game where he lost the puck in the defensive zone because it looked like he didn’t know he’d stand up to the person coming behind. Then on the very next shift he’s able to keep the puck even though he went down to his knees while facing two defenders and get it to his defensemen in the offensive zone. I still need to see more feet moving but I think there’s generally more positives than negative right now.
