Candidates to keep an eye on after Mets part ways with six coaches
The Mets shook up their coaching staff today, announcing that pitching coach Jeremy Hefner, hitting coaches Eric Chavez and Jeremy Barnes, and third base coach Mike Sarbaugh will not return for next season. In addition, bench coach John Gibbons stepped aside. Earlier in the week, catching instructor Glenn Sherlock decided he would retire. So, it’s going to be a whole new staff in Queens next season. Carlos Mendoza survived the meltdown that concluded Sunday with the loss in Miami. Left the Mets out of the playoffs, but he and the front office are going to have a new staff to build around him. Not a surprise uh given the manner in which the season unfolded. Maybe maybe the depth of this is a little surprising. The one I wondered about the most uh was Hefner. given his reputation in the game uh as a top pitching coach. He he’s been here six years, survived uh various administrations, but after what we saw in the second half, specifically with the rotation, the decision was to made to move on from Hefner. And as for the hitting coaches, uh Chavez and Barnes, there was there was disappointment. You know, the hitters came on later in the season. There was disappointment with the production in the first half. A lot of it, maybe too much of it, was random hitting with runners in scoring position. We saw that come around, but they paid the price. They each had a year left on their deals. Sarbaugh, the third base coach, he had an expiring contract. Hefner, I should add, uh, had a 2026 option that was not picked up. So, where do the Mets go from here? Well, it’s going to be a busy several weeks now trying to build rebuild his coaching staff to keep an eye on uh JP Arnibia who is the bench coach at AAA Syracuse and maybe he’ll be in the mix for that role at the major league level. AJ Sager, Syracuse pitching coach, very uh well regarded by the organization. Certainly has familiarity with Nolan Mlan, Brandon Sprro, and Jonah Tong. So, he’s somebody to keep an eye on here. There’ll be a lot of interviews and uh the Mets look to move forward.

If you can find him….get Mike Scott to be the new pitching coach. Imagine our little Jonah with that over the top windup throwing a Mike Scott "scuffed" splitter?? That'll definitely put hair on his chest. Also, I want Lenny Dykstra to manage this team….we have a low T problem, and it needs to be corrected…fast. This is hardball guys, no more pussyball. Plus….I want Jose Canseco to be the hitting coach, for reasons I can't say in here, but you know where I'm going with this. Oh, and make me the damn GM, I'll bring this franchise to the promised land
Its crazy that if we would have won any 1 of the games we 1000% should have won..were in the playoffs and they still have their jobs. Just 1 game. 🤦
Don’t matter they will still suck.
Clean House removes the stench of this season forever
How about the GM???
Thanks god they try to keep Richardson as 1st base coach.
The house has not been completely cleand. STINGY.STEARNS and MENBOZO are still around. COHEN should have done the clean up.
How about getting rid of the MANAGER
Clean house GM, manager coaches everyone including batboy clubhouse attendants…get the stench out
