Since it’s the bye week, thought it’d be the perfect time to toss out a fun creative play idea for the Bears’ offense that I’d love to see Ben Johnson call.

Inspired by the 2022 Titans play where CB Roger McCreary leapt out of bounds to tip an interception back to Joshua Kalu, here’s an offensive version of that play.

Rome Odunze (X) would line up on the outside and run a corner route to the back of the end zone. He's hot right now and will be getting more attention from defenses and will most likely draw the safety on his route. Following him to the corner will be a speedy crossing receiver (Burden) and a pass catcher out of the backfield (Moore). Odunze would then launch himself just right to highpoint the pass out of bounds near the sideline, but before landing tip the ball back into play to one of the trailing receivers. This would be a next level trick play, essentially a hook and ladder but using the real estate no one is crazy enough to use.

This would be a low-risk, high-reward red zone weapon to catch defense off guard. If both safeties pull left, you go right to the slot (Y) or tight end. This can also be called on longer plays where time is an issue and defenders are guarding the sideline to prevent stoppages. Let me know what you all think. Would be insane to actually see this play called, especially if it happens next week against the Commanders in prime time.

  1. Brother, I want whatever you’re smoking. This is peak off-season shit posting.

  2. I think the amount of precision and luck required for this to go right would probably make it unrealistic in a game setting.

If Caleb can get the ball perfectly to Rome where he can jump up and intentionally tip it in a way that a defender can’t get to it, they might as well just throw a pass to Rome.

If Rome leaves his feet, the defender can also push him back further OB, disrupting his ability to perfectly control this volleyball-set-type move.

Both other receivers are also probably covered, which means there would be two defenders watching for the ball to potentially intercept the tip.

It would be crazy to see this happen, but it introduces so much risk and requires so much precision that I don’t think a team would ever intentionally run it. If there was a crucial end of game situation, maybe a WR would try a tip out of desperation if they know they can’t pull in the pass, but that’s about it.

  3. So heres the issues I have

1: if a player can touch and grab the ball it’s better to just have them score.

2: timing here is so key and if the WR runs out of bounds too early then touches ball mid air that’s a penalty

3: tipping a ball is very random. Footballs by design have a randomness to their movement. Tipping a ball isa bad idea. Pitching would be much better but if a reciever has a catch, just get the feet down

  4. Bears should stay in this formation most of the game it would help to give both Rome and dj one on one
But we need more down field throws
Not behind the line or at the line

  5. Okay, I really like the outside the box thinking, I’ll give you that. We would need to have a phycho as a play caller and…. oh right. Lets hope Ben sees this lol

  6. This does NOT make sense!!! It does if you want to score a td and the players are not in the endzone. The chiefs have actually done it. I think Ben did it in Detroit as well. They were NOT done inside the endzone!!! Congrats on drawing reactions

  7. The idea of having your wide receiver bat a live jump ball in mid air into play being “low risk” is sending me

    I love it. Bear down

  8. I’d like to see more tips on purpose. Especially big time situations.

But not in the red zone. That’s killer precision time. This is for when you’re on your 30-40 yard line and need a BIG play.

  9. I just hope Caleb throws it harder than what the image shows because if not it’s an easy pick.

  10. Yall ever seen Wanted? Angelina Jolie curved a bullet. Caleb can curve a ball. Easy.

  11. i usually expect this level of shithousery from the second sub…this is wild i love it
