NHL Preseason Highlights | Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings – October 4, 2025

Well, left wing, top line is open. EMTT Finny, the rookie, the seventh round draft pick, number 58, has made a good case to grab it, but we’ll see uh as often as you do previously. Comes along the near boards and that’s held in a shot in a good save and another good stop. That one just went wide. And part of that is the way that Detroit played too. Then again, it’s the preseason and don’t just judge it by that. Yeah. Not only do they want more pressure on the penalty kill nice play by Copper in front for Francer [Music] [Applause] started by Edmonson there. What’s going on here? Lots of Leafs are back. Oh my goodness. We’ll get a high wide look at this. Somebody missed an assignment defensively. See, they’re trying to figure it out over here. Where is everybody? They’re all looking around and Nigard, see, this defenseman here has got to come across and take him. The the winger did not. One of the two has to take that right winger for Detroit. And he’s leaf had the first six shots in this game. Back up high it goes for Barbellini. Loose puck in front. score. Logan Shaw, the 6-4 forward, bangs it home to tie the game. Wilkin play in front of the net and Gibson had already committed himself. And when that puck got deflected and then laid there to his left, there’s not much he could do. Went off a skate and before Dbrick can get there, Shaw gets there. It ties the hockey game. There’s the deflection. And it might even have got off his own skate and he got it to put it in the back of the net. Circling with it is Larkin. On it goes for Kane. Off the kick plate. Back for Cider. Gets knocked down by Toronto. And more at Cider with it again on for Lucas Raymond. They gap up at the Maple Leaf line to prevent that from happening. A quick break here for Roberts. scores. Well, if a guy wants to make a name for himself to try to keep a spot, he’s doing it. Nick Robertson with a short-handed goal. Makes it two to one. Was being harassed. There’s three Leafs there. There’s only four on the ice and it’s Robertson. He had to come off the bench and nobody knew he was there. There’s the change right there. Illustrator’s not working. There it is. Okay, bingo. We got him. and he rifles one through John. They weren’t winning games consistently and then you went into those four streaks the last 46 games, the past two seasons combined. The last 46 games for Detroit, just 12 regulation wins from March to the end of the season. Kane circles up high with it. Kane’s got it. The shot and that tipped and just wide. Axel Sandee Pelica on back. It comes up high for Marco Casper to Axel. Sand Dean Pelica moved here again for Simon Edmonson. Edmonson looks down low to Brink into the slot for Kane with shot. Maybe the heaviest shot on this team. Lucas Raymond as a right-hand shot over there on the power play. And the one-time has to be perfectly set up. Has to have the right speed. It has to be in the right position. So, it’s in his wheelhouse. And boom, he gets a break. Now, it got a break. But Michael Branicard, his fourth goal of the preseason and his seventh point. Oh, and they get it right back. Oh jeez. Cedric Par. Yeah, John Gibson’s not happy with himself on this one. Like a busted play down the right side. Left hand shot. Beats him far side between the elbow and the body. And Gibson’s mad at himself again. Yeah, it’s a five on three. Raymond with it. Across for to break it. Save made by Rhymer. Still going to be a power play. the game clock and uh okay, Benwis go for a minute. I’m thinking like 128 on Benwis penalty left yet. It doesn’t get there. No. Red Wings do control. Sand Dean Pelica with it. Scores. A rip from the point. Johansson. It’s 55. 30 seconds left. Johansson didn’t even know the puck went in the net. He only heard the flank of the c of the he just came to the bench smiling like seriously, come on. Come on. Oh, the great game of hockey gives us it another thrill again. People everywhere. Sh standing next to me. didn’t even know. So, we’ve got overtime, three on three in a five game. Final pre-season game as Lucas Raymond brings it to center out with Larkin and Axel Sanding Pelican. Look at the Raymond move. Stopped by Rhymer tries it again. Larkin Raymond back for Larkin to Keane. Larkin off the outside of the net. Dylan Larkin up high. Leaves it for Kane. Poor Larkin. Scores under the bar. The game is over. The Red Wings win it six to five. [Music] Oh my god. The guy, the Redwing guys are actually tapping him as he goes by. Armer. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He’s such a likable guy. And unfortunately, three goals in the last uh I don’t even know what it is now, 5 minutes or so. Holy jumping. I’ve lost my signal, guys, down here on my monitor. Dylan Larkin and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard scored two goals each, while Patrick Kane tallied three points as the Detroit Red Wings edged the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-5 in overtime. Both Michael Pezzetta and Cedric Pare recorded two points in the loss.
