Padres FORCED into MASSIVE decisions…
Padres’s fans, we got some massive decisions that the Friars are going to need to make that I want to talk about. I want to hear from you guys. I want to share my vents and opinions, and I want to see if we can’t all play uh fantasy GM. What’s going on everyone? Christian Person, welcome you back to another episode of Padres’s Digest. Thank you very much for tuning in. If there are any of you left still watching this, I assume you fall into one of three categories. You are either self-loathingly hate watching because you the the Padre have left a wound in you. Uh, this is an autoplay after another video, which hey, welcome. Or, uh, you’re a cat smashing a keyboard or a baby or something and you wound up here. Either way, happy to have all of you along. If you want to drop a comment, I’m looking forward to it because I want to talk with you guys. And let’s let’s work through this offseason together. And as always, if you want to accidentally hit that subscribe button, no objections from me, we got to talk about this now that the season is over. Here are the free agents. And this is a lot of massive decisions. This is not just an offensive free agency year. This is not just a pitching year. This is a holistically like not saying that the whole blueprint is up for negotiation, but a fair amount of big pieces are. And over this offseason, I’m going to talk about um probably a zillion different ways of of fixing or tweaking or whatever you want to say uh about the team. And I I one of you guys dropped a comment about getting rid of like Jay Cronorth and there’s there’s some other very viable discussions to talk about, but this video is going to be singularly on working our way through the actual free agents that we see here. setting the table for all of this. I want you guys to keep in mind that obviously we don’t know every single thing about the Sidler uh new ownership group, but we have also heard enough to know that they are probably most likely not going to be just willy-nilly like cash splashing to try and keep pace with the Dodgers the way that Peter Sidler was. So looking at that with that in mind, here’s the season that we just ended. Payroll for the San Diego Padres’s at the end of getting swept two out of three games in the uh wild card round 215 million. What I have what we have for next year’s salary without any of the free agents and I there was a long list. I will get back to it so that you guys can keep that in mind. But 194 million already committed to the the existing returning player. That’s 194 million is committed to the 17 players that are coming back. So we need that 194 million that you see right there um is is not even a complete MLB roster. So with those with if you want to return to last year’s squad’s value, you got $20 million and you need to resign seven of these guys. I know that’s not like exactly how it works, but given that most likely we are not talking about them being able to be like, “Oh, hey, can all of you guys take a fat like internal discount and that I don’t want to necessarily confuse this video by saying, well, if we get rid of Xander, that clears this, or we get rid of Jake, that clears that.” Like if we DS the divine sports gospel is tweeting about uh you Darbish retiring and saying like okay there’s other videos to talk about other hypotheticals. I just want to go down this and maybe looking at all this rate who you guys and who we and who I think are like the keys to if we got to go after somebody this season. I would say up until about 10 days ago. I I’ll here I’ll I’ll shotgun down the list for you and and I will uh I will move myself into position so you can see my arms wildly um reacting to some of these people. Uh I’ll give them my thumbs up or thumbs down. Um but yeah, I look until 10 days ago I was an absolute Luis Riot stand. You can talk to everybody in every group chat that I have been a part of. Even my ghostriter Curtis uh has been counseling me against Luis Aras all season. And then like the one through three didn’t work. We’ve still got Manny and Fernando stuck there. So either we’re going to move Arias down or his productivity just isn’t the right productivity cuz the Padres’s need pop. And also his two times against Sw didn’t run the damn ball. I don’t know. salty about that shirt, but I think Luis Aas let him go chase a bag. Same with Dylan CE. I He is now I honored my I honored my promise that if he threw a good game in the playoffs, I’d make him the backdrop. So maybe CE remains the backdrop well past him being a Padre. But I see no scenario in which he’s going to be like this is one of the ones where I was talking about a guy taking a fat discount and being like, “Oh yeah, man. I love the vibes here. But I’ll sign I wanted 25 a year, but I’ll sign for three a year. No. Okay, let him go chase his bag. I look forward to hitting nine home runs off of him in the playoffs in the future. Robert Suarez, he’s got a player option. He is expensive. He is a He is in his mid30s. He is a closer yips for a couple couple days this year, but is really good. I think that Suarez, it seems like everything I have read wants to at least see what’s out there, which okay, cool. I think that we get something done with I think there’s a high probability that Suarez will engage the Padres’s in a discussion. Now, if Mason Miller and are waiting two and three behind him and the plan is not to move Miller into the the starting rotation, but leave him in the bullpen, then okay, maybe Robert Suarez as a 30 something as a 36-year-old closer isn’t the dude anymore. But I still think like I give him more of a thumbs up than a thumbs down in terms of my wanting to bring him back. Michael King mutual option. This one is confusing and hard cuz based off of the year that King had, his stats were good, but he didn’t pitch a ton and he hasn’t pitched a ton since becoming a starter. So, I don’t think he’s going to move back to a bullpen and be like, “Oh, it didn’t work out.” I think King wants to be a starter. I think King wants to make starter money. I think King can make starter money, but I will be curious on this season if it was enough of a sample size in one direction or the other for teams to entertain it or if this ends up being something where like he takes the mutual option this year to go get a huer bag next year. I don’t know if huger is a word. Uh the wife is probably cringing in the background being elementary school listening to my language, but uh I Okay, I say King’s a yes. I think we go after him. I would say you can jettison a fair amount of this. Go after King. Make King Paveta Musgrove, Darvis, maybe Miller. I if we keep King, we don’t have a massive drop off. And I I think he can be the one star. Uh Wani Peralta is the next number down. I I give him a thumb sideways for just not caring enough about whether or not he takes that player option. If he wants to come back and be part of the Padres’s, great. I I appreciate him in the bullpen. I love him in the bullpen. I I don’t think in the era that we live in that it’s like he’s this golden goose of a lefty. So he I to me if we’re in this like we got to squeeze uh every last dime that we can. Maybe we let Wi ah you didn’t take his player option. Sorry man. Instead of paying you 1.1 we’re going to go with league minimum for someone from the minors. Maybe uh Raone Lariano club option if they don’t read read everything about my body language. Two thumbs up. Um if they don’t if they don’t take the player option on Raone Lariano. Uh the only video that I am going to make repeatedly over and over and over again is reminding the Padres’s how bad they did by not ressigning him. He would be fantastic. Whether or not he’s the long-term option or Terso or something like that comes up, I don’t know. I don’t care. But keep Raone here. it. He is going to be a good option for us next year. Uh Elias Diaz mutual option jetting him into the sun. Unless Nick Fetta absolutely needs him. I think you tip your hat. You say, “Thank you very much for coming here. We did not expect to land Freddy for me.” And Freddy Fine is a dog. A dog. And we can put Campuso or Salace or somebody behind him and we will be okay. Ryan O’Harn. I thought that Ryan O’Harn was going to be the piece in that deal with the Orioles. It ended up being Lauriano. Hear me out though. I kind of think that we can clear out some space at first with letting Arias go and putting Sheets in more of a DH spot and let Oh, Hearn just have first base. Now, Hearn’s probably going to want good big money. I understand, like I said at the top of this video, the pottery might not have good big money, but I give him the thumbs up of let’s go after him. Jose Glacius, love him, appreciate him. I think that he’s now had one really good year and one very uh appropriate year in the last two years. So, I have no idea what he wants moneywise, but if like if if we can keep him around for a couple of years as our utility guy, great. Fantastic. I he gets a thumbs down for me in terms of like have to go after Nester Cortez. Uh, the only thing cool about Nester Cortez at this point is if you got the chance to get a Nester Padres’s jersey, that’s a very cool vintage item that can start some conversations at a bar for the next 20 years. But other than that, I see no interest in bringing him back. There you go. Those are all the free agents. Let me know what you think. Drop a comment. Hit the subscribe. We got a ton to talk about this offseason. This is just a table setter. I want to hear from you guys where you would go with your if you were playing fantasy GM in this. Till next time. Talk to you guys
On this episode Christian Pedersen looks at all the players that will be hitting free agency this offseason for the Padres.

Unfortunately, AJ won't have too much wiggle room for changes….. Machado, Tatis, Boagerts and Cronenworth need to leave but it will take an act of God for another team to trade for them even if there's a way to get around the no trade clause…… Padres are stuck with these overpriced and underperforming players for years to come.
Do you offer king QO with the season he had . He might take the offer to prove he’s healthy
Get tatis eyes checked
Trade cronenworth and tatis for a generation of great picks and sign sxhwarber
something has to change with the offense and the hitting culture we need homeruns
Your a man is your word …. U are a1 in my book…. Keep L. arreaz….
here cuz i’m still forever faithful
Try to keep Arraez, King and Peralta. Laureano ain’t going anywhere. Suarez would be nice to have but will be too much. Same with King, except I’d do my best to pay him.
Kyle scharwber es el bateador que siempre me a gustado para San Diego!!! Hay realmente pocos jardineros buenos en la agencia líbre y scharwber es uno de esos pocos
go get the polar bear !
pete alonzo
Tatis , Cringeworth , Bogarts have to go ., Time to get rid of dead weight . Keep arraz one more year , sign Laureno and ohearn to small contracts. Keep sheets , get rid of Suarez , Miller as new closer .
Nicely done…. I still Arraez is good for the Padres….. but I think I agree with almost all your video…. season ending still hurts…. now I have to hear my Dodgers neighbor ask if the Padres are moving forward….😒😒😒
No team is gonna take any of the overprice long term contract losers on this team. The Padres are stuck with them for the next 5-10 years.
No titles. Farm system is gone. Fire AJ. He has done absolutely nothing for the Padres.
Trade Machado and Tatis for three quality starting pitchers. Sign Alonso and Soto.
Tatis needs to play pepper with the bat.. and or get glasses..
They’re not good. Do not have a winning culture. These individuals should not be in the top half of the lineup: Tatis, Machado and Bogaerts. Not a clutch gene among them.
