New York Knicks vs Philadelphia 76ers Full Game | October 4, 2025 | NBA Preseason Today
See whether or not Mike Brown continues to put his foot on the gas. Dembono wins the tip for Justin Van Dy. Jonathan Sterling, our officiating crew for the 2025 Abu Dhabi game. Second preseason game between Philadelphia and New York. And Edgecomb is fouled, shooting a three. Was just one of six from beyond the ark in his pro debut. Rookie getting some calls here. I love that equal opportunity. Not a real solid closeout by Brunson. Sort of a no-brainer for the official in that slot. VJ Edcom shooting three. Edgecomb will shoot three. Third overall pick out of Baylor. Just one year of college as he opens up the scoring for the 76ers. Where do you put the expectation for the rookie this year? Well, I think if you use him as a complimentary piece, you can’t expect a guy like Edgecom or any rookie for that matter to come in and carry the load on either end of the floor. He does have the ability to be an excellent defensive player and be able to play with that energy, play passing lanes, get some steals, deflections, and hopefully translate to the other end of the floor and get some easy buckets. use that young energy and the legs that he has um to your advantage here early on and see whether or not he can start off well and start building some confidence with the work. Played 30 minutes on Thursday in Abu Dhabi as he knocks down all three free throws to give the 76ers the early lead. I think one of the things he might still have to work on is he’s a rookie. He’s got a lot to work on, but the jumper consistently is still a work in progress. But no one questions his ability defensively. Carl Anthony Towns answers for New York over Barlo. Carl does well, right? Shoots the basketball as well as any big guy that we have in our league. Coming off of that third team AllNBA selection as Kelly Ubé draws the foul. That’s Kelly game in a nutshell right there. Now entering his third season with Philadelphia. played really, really well, especially last year when the cupboard was bare, so to speak. Not a lot of contributors on a consistent basis. Yet, Kelly in tough times was one of those consistent contributors. Missed both. Got the rebound and a reset to 14 for the 76ers. See his hustle on that play right there, giving his team a second chance opportunity. Maxi off target from deep. rebound bats around to Robinson who collected 16 of them in just 18 minutes on Thursday. Anobi lost the handle. Ricochets to Anthony Towns. Stay down. Stay down. Anobi fires over UB. A battle for the rebound. 76ers have it. And that that’s going to be key for the 76ers, being able to contest shots and then limit the Knicks to just one rebound. They’re very good, I should say just one shot. They’re very good at offensive rebounding the basketball. Towns out muscles Bona for the board. Nicks starting a bit sloppy and Anobi tied up. It’s a jump ball. Preseason game eight time zones. So taking his cue from his hair color all has all with a purpose, right? Nothing is by accident. Brunson misses point blank. The run out. Edgecomb up on the rim. No. UB another offensive rebound and reaching in was Robinson. Sixer showing you that Bridges on Maxi. What a drive. Ho ho Edgecomb the rookie left him out there on the wing by himself and as soon as he got the ball he knew that he had one defender to beat. Got by him and then showed that athleticism again. Had a chance for a poster on Thursday but got fouled this time leaving nothing to chance as he hammers it down. Well in the previous play he kind of went up in transition and missed as Ananovi responds. So this time he left no doubt VJ on that finish after the Anobi make. Appears to be a technical foul. Watch this. Kelly one of the more delightful people to be around. Knicks have tied it up three minutes in. Change of direction. Edgecomb. Brunson knocked it away. tried to split the defenders. No dice. And Anobi starting to find his rhythm. Hit one just a little bit closer from that same right wing. Step back a couple feet from beyond the arc and knock that down. Same angle as that first 18-footer. [Applause] Knicks lead for the first time. Uber misses the layup and Anobi looking to push the lob to Robinson and he knows how to finish. Talked about Mike Brown. One of the things he wanted to do coming in as the leader of the Knicks this year was to run a lot more. It’s one thing to just say it, but it’s another thing to make sure that it’s enforced. Misses or makes. Knicks are running. Edgecom looking to facilitate. Barlo from the corner and the fourthyear pro out of overtime. Elite knocks down the tray. He was real good in that first matchup the other night. Led all sixers in rebounds with 10. Did Barllo got 30 minutes in a starting role. Some thought perks that he can compete for a standard contract. Currently on a two-way deal. And another look at the transition play by New York. Well, and it’s one thing to push the ball up the floor, but it does you no good if there aren’t other guys there as well. So Ann and Robinson to finish. We know that Robinson is a lob threat in the half court, but if he adds that transition rim running to his game, he his offensive ability can can really expand. Yeah. And it forces the big guy to stay with him. And if there are certain trips down the floor, he can’t. Those are buckets ready to be delivered. All you got to do is put forth the effort. Seems like he is right now. That’s what running is all about. Again, you can say it, but you actually have to go out and do it. UB makes another hustle play to keep possession. Barlo same spot end of shot clock this time could not convert as Anobi good positioning there for the rebound. Brunson running without numbers. Hoist a three. No, Bridges cleans it up. Yeah, you’re just trying to out jump the next guy. No one blocking out Bridges. He’s able to slither in there and get that put back. Knicks by four. Philadelphia calls timeout. First quarter from the OP. Big fans of basketball all the way back several decades. Abu Dhabi and by center. And so they’ve been watching NBA basketball for many, many moons. Bona gets called for the illegal screen. Here’s Brunson dashing down the paint. Count it and one for the Knicks captain. Too savvy for him. Brunson getting them up in the air and off balance. Knicks trailed early. Have the lead here approaching the midway point of the quarter. Coming out of the timeout. Both teams kept their lineups the same. And now Philadelphia goes to the bench for the first time. The veteran big man Andre Drummond will come in for Demona who just picked up his second foul. Drummond like a lot of Sixers hobbled with injuries last year hoping for a healthy season. He and the whole squad for that matter. Second year with Philadelphia as part of his 14year NBA career. UB long two, bags it. He’s kind of crowding that lane, not allowing any drives, daring the Sixers to shoot it. Kelly saw an opportunity, took advantage of it, able to knock it down. Bub’s first make in three attempts from the field. [Music] Brunson driving against Maxi. Knocks it down from just inside the foul line. Strong with the basketball. Great example of it right there. drives right, uses that left shoulder to create some space. Maxi trying to answer too strong on the three. Credit Robinson for his third rebound. And again, Knicks pushing pace. Bridges will head to the line. And you can see what pressure that puts on the team to continue his New York Knicks career. [Music] Much beloved hidden gem in Dallas early in his career. came here to New York and just started to thrive. Jordan Clarkson, Miles McBride, Gershon Yabuselli. First three off the bench for the Knicks. New York without Josh Hart out today with the lower back soreness. He’s been dealing with that thumb injury and then hurt his lower back in just seven minutes of action on Thursday, so he will not play. Barlo denied at the rim. Nice help from Bridges. Another new insertion is Yabu Cle, former 76er last year. The French product signed a three other added layer of bulk and defense physicality. Was five years out of the league before playing 70 games for Philadelphia last year. Did a great job of making the most of his opportunity after his first stint with Boston. Didn’t go as well as planned. kind of gambled a lot last year on himself and it paid off. Tyrese Maxi at the line couple of seasons ago was an allstar one most improved last year a lingering right finger sprain limited him to just 52 games did score 26 per. What do you think the outlook is for the six-year pro? Well, I think it’s only improving, only moving in the right direction. What you love about being around Tyrese is he does everything right, says everything right, goes about conducting his day-to-day business the right way as the Knicks respond. Um, so when you see someone who does everything the way you’re supposed to, uh, it’s easy to root for a guy like that. Bridges scores on the other end for New York, extending the lead to 2112. Edgecomb. It’s an air ball from the outside. And that’s still, we talked about the work in progress part of his game. He’s got to get more reliable. Maxi off the steel, knocks down the triple. Defense is playing him like they do a lot of the times. Worried about that drive because of his quick first step and the ability to finish. He’s coupled that with a jumper now makes him doubly hard to cover. Bridges trying to flip it to Yabuselli who got knocked down. Trying to get him on that roll in the pick and roll formation. Takes up a lot of space inside. 68 265 nicknamed dancing bear. See a little more in New York. I you know what? He may have better fortunes. We’d certainly wish him well in Philadelphia. No one has any kind of ill feelings towards him. He was a yman performer last year. Philadelphia goes to its bench. Justin Edwards along with Jabari Walker checking in. Edgecom Maxi stay out there and it’s to Drummonds. Nice drive draws the attention and a nice kick out. Great way to start your time out on the floor getting your teammates involved. Clarkson once again part of the first group off the bench for the Knicks. Expected to play an important role as a reserve for New York and draws the foul there against Maxi. Walker picks up the Walker York in the offse. As you mentioned, it was Walker committing the foul, not Maxi. Part of the the Knicks then that rotation. Well, and if you want to run like Mike Brown intends to, you’re going to need some rotation changes. You’re going to need some fresh legs because that does take its toll over the course of 82 games. You’re not super human, but at the same time, you change bodies, you get fresh legs in, you can be effective in that run game. Edgecom from deep knocks down the three. It’s a good sign. Had some time to size that one up. [Music] Being a rookie is all about having that confidence and being consistent with the confidence as you and your game fluctuate from night to night. Clarkson gets the friendly roll. A bit out of control down the lane. Some improvisation there from Mr. Clarkson on his way to the basket. Nice finish. Edwards missing from deep. Edgecomb gets called for the loose ball foul. There’s not liking that call. Over the back was the callth year in the NBA. Nicks in the bonus. Clarkson at the line for two. Incredible longevity. I haven’t done anything for 20 years just besides breathe. But I literally don’t think I You’ve got that down. real solid. It’s working for me. But I don’t think Yeah, I’ve done anything that long. So, tip of the cap to him for his consistency and the ability to hang in that long. Unbelievable. Jaylen Brunson in for male Bridges. Dangerous crosscourt pass. You see Nick Nurse kind of tightening up over there as that pass was delivered. Kennedy Chandler in for the first time as Maxi remains out there and hits the fadeaways. Looks right at McBride. They’ve had their battles in the past with some big games in the past against the Knicks in particular playoff games. Brunson missing from deep. Philadelphia native Justin Edwards claims the rebound. is doing a good job against a good normally good rebounding team in the Knicks. Maxi wants three more. It rims out. Fouron one here. Numbers for the Knicks and it’s thrown down. Robinson makes the adjustment. You can see what Mike Brown is talking about. Why even run an offense if you can just come down through sheer effort of running hard and get some easy buckets. Second time today that Robinson has been rewarded for his hustle. 18 ft jumper. Teams clicking offensively. Backcourt steel knocked out of bounds. Signal to stay with the 76ers. Although McBride thinks it should go back to Ohio State. McBride takes it across the timeline allowing Brunson into playoff ball. Nick still playing the regulars here in the first quarter and an OB catch and shoot. Has three more. What Mike Brown I think is trying to do is get as much cohesion with this unit as possible. Get a good look at them and then come the second half give the other guys an opportunity to play. That’s certainly what they did in the first game against the Sixers. Knicks have gone eight deep so far. Here is number eight, Adinoi trying to get to the rim. Robinson keeps it alive until Maxi snatches it away. Robinson has done a great job of changing ends quickly here in this matchup. There’s a good look at Mitchell. Realizes hit some medium medium range Jays as well. Maxi to the line after the reachin foul was called against Robinson. [Applause] A lot of attention and rightfully so was paid to that guy in particular on drives garnering the attention of Mitchell Robinson on that last exchange leading to the foul. Quinton Grimes is signed but did not make the trip to Abu Dhabi. Paul George and Joel Embiid recovering from their respective knee injuries. Jared McCain, the secondyear man out of Duke, expected to play a bigger role, but he suffered a thumb injury in the preeason as Robinson gets another dunk. UCL tear in his thumb, not to be confused with an ACL tear, which is ligaments in your knee. This one on the thumb. A sideline Jared for a while after spending all of last year practically injured as well. Drummond after the miss. A knee injury last December that cut his rookie season to just 23 games. Forget he was also in not just fight for it the remainder of the year. Penetration and dish. The last time down Clarkson was the facilitator. Now Anobi finding Robinson who gets hit airborne and will head to the line. They’ve connected on a number of plays Anobi and Robinson whether it be in the half court or the fullcourt transition game. Commits the foul. Both Mitchell Robinson and Josh Hart were part of the starting unit during pre-season camp on Thursday. Robinson got the start with Hart coming off the bench. part not playing today. So, an obvious call to give Mitchell his second straight start. That’ll be an interesting lineup subplot as the Knicks head towards the regular season. Yeah, and I think the new coach may not know what he wants to do just yet, and that’s quite all right. I think this is what the preseason is for, these opportunities to kind of plug guys in in certain lineups, see what works, what unit is more cohesive than the others, um, and then go from there. You got to also keep in mind matchups moving forward may have a lot to do with it. Depending who’s on the other side of the floor each and every night may affect what Mike Brown does as far as who he puts in and when. Edgecomb has returned to the lineup. [Music] Maxi has played the whole way down to the final 8 seconds of the first quarter. Edgecom driving against McBride. spins baseline and misfires to end the will be productive together on the floor this year. I think that’s certainly where the hopes and dreams of the Sixer fans are tied to the fact that these guys can be out on the floor and play as a threesome having not done it a lot previous year. Knicks plus eight to start the second quarter. It’s Anobi and Robinson from the starting lineup. McBride maybe grazing the iron at the end of the shot clock along with Clarkson and Malcolm Brogden getting his first action of this contest. The fiveman unit for the Knicks. Edgecom driving and the tip in right at the rim. Nicely done there by Adona. active body, quick off the floor. Spent last year impressing a lot of observers with Dem Bona. It’s UB Barlo, Bona, Edgecom, and Chandler. Noi continuing his hot shooting. First player into double figures. He’s got 11. [Music] Four from beyond the arc is Anobi. Started off shooting some mid-range jumpers. Knicks match their largest lead. Good hands McBride and the Knicks recover right along the baseline with Brogden. Great recovery from McBride. That was an easy bunny for a Dem strip from him. Adenobi drives. Got caught underneath. Good defense by Barlo and Ubé. Good job of defending without fouling. Not bailing out the driver. The deflection though the other end. Careless. Clarkson oneon two. Oh, the trail block. There was Edgecom for the denial, but the Knicks got a shot out of it as Brogden misses from three. Volleyball player at the net there blocking that. A monster dunk in the first quarter. An athletic block in the second [Music] block. Watch the timing. Spikes it out of there. Sender. Watch it again. The timing. That was more like a beach volleyball slap than it was a basketball effective nonetheless. Clarkson basketball. McBride gets called for the foul. taking advantage of the points in the paint. A lot of it having to do with them running the floor. Edwards misfires from deep and they will take advantage of the sixer miscues, turnovers and such. Fry looking to turn the corner and a foul is called come with the reach. Philadelphia foul charge to PJ that’s third the terminology the X’s and O’s these these are all new things to him and he’s learning it on the fly at high speed um and no one’s going to wait for you right that’s the other uh quality about the NBA so he is right now thrown to the deep end but I think he’s performing well with eight to shoot Down to five. Mismatch against Yabuselli and misfires. See that’s still we talked about not where it wants it to be. He knows that and I don’t think he’s the type of person that has any problem working on his shortcomings to get better. And that’s one of the reasons why the Sixers drafted him where they did. One of four from beyond the ark as McBride maneuvers his way inside for two. Dominion but strong, deceptively strong is McBride that time able to hold his position, keep the defender at bay and finish inside. Fifth year all with New York, former second round draft pick of the Knicks back in 2021. Ubé snakes his way inside. Couldn’t finish. Barlo thought he had a beat on it as well. Doesn’t give up on the play and saves it to Bona after taking it away from Brogden. Barlo open three. Make it a long two. Ray’s hustle creating another opportunity for his team. That man benefiting. Barlo with the corner jumper. Dominic Barlo. Two more. Nick Nurse saying that he’s been one of the standouts early in camp. Well, if you defend and rebound, you give yourself a chance with Nick Nurse to get into the rotation. You have to defend and rebound, especially if you’re a big guy, but expect guards to rebound, too. Good hands by Anobi. Trying to split multiple defenders. Always a recipe for disaster. Fun fake. Drive in off balance. Draws the whistle against still has that herkyjerky unconventional movement to his game. Malcolm Brogden got the defender out of sorts. Malcolm Brogden getting first half minutes in preseason game number two after not participating until the second half on Thursday. Mike Brown saying before the game that he’d get the opportunity to play with the regulars on a non-g guaranteed E9 deal signed in the off season fighting with Landry Shamut amongst others for a final New York roster spot. Shamut, the former Sixer among other teams as well, recently played I believe with the Clippers as well as the Knicks. [Music] You’ve got some depth in the perimeter to the nicker boxers. You’ve got some depth all around. Edge got to the rim, couldn’t finish. Yeah, it looked like that time he could have turned it over and dunkked it as well as opposed to trying to just lay it up softly. Refs are more apt to give you the benefit of the doubt when you go strong to the basket. That’s his first personal now. 13 fouls against the 76ers. Stays here. New York basketball. [Music] Sideline out of bounds. Looks tight over there, doesn’t it? Trying to get the ball in bounds. Meanwhile, there’s patrons walking behind. What is this? The Masters. Patrons Brunson underneath and Towns gets hit. Nice penetration. We’ve seen this interior passing from the Knicks all morning, afternoon long, if you will. It’s been Anobi finding Robinson. Now it’s uh you see the young fella coming in. Brunson finding the big fella cat Brunson off the screen. Knocks that one down. Big fella. It’s the big fella. Yeah, the biggest New York Knick big fella. Patrick Huing there on the left of your screen. [Music] A piece in the first half basketball. Janai Broom, the rookie out of Auburn, makes his first appearance for the 76ers today. There he is in the paint up with the left hand and knocks it down. Big body, the Auburn product can be really physical on the inside and I think bring a measure of rebounding to this Sixer team. Brunson misses the second side layup. 76ers want to run. It’s Ubé to the rim. Scores it over Bridges. They’ll take the opportunity whenever they can. Biggest key to the Sixers desire to run is they’ve got to rebound the basketball. You ain’t going to get out and do anything if you don’t clean the glass. Gabelli against his former mates. Knocks down the triple. He was scoreless on Thursday in 13 minutes. on the other end comes up with the big block. [Music] Beautiful give and go. Towns to Bridges for the flush. And it wasn’t a basket off of the initial break. That was more of a secondary break. The Knicks get down quickly and then move the ball around, forcing the defenders for the Sixers to kind of scramble. That’s what got things going with good rim protection. No call on that drive. Stays here. Philly ball. 76ers maintain possession. Want to keep this within striking distance. Down 15. Now [Applause] Chandler draws the whistle. played some isolation basketball here offensively. We saw earlier with Edge come isolated, able to go one-on-one. This time, Chandler picks up the foul. One of those September E10 signings. [Applause] Chandler trying to work his way into a roster spot with Philadelphia free throws there trying to change ends quickly and see what’ll happen sometimes there’s some unforced errors that time Bridges with a turnover but right now Mike Brown will he’ll take that as you’re trying to iron out the kinks here early on. There are adjustments to be made from a team that wants to run a lot and sometimes you will make mistakes. Maxi over his former teammate scores it over Yabelli. You see them having a little word with one another having spent the season together. Broom got over defensively. Yabelli missing the runner. Block out from UB picks up the foul. go against Carl Anthony Town. Town’s defending broom. [Music] Maxi once again matched up against Yabuselli. Chandler throws up a brick. McBride kick ahead. Brunson to the rim. Brunson the lone defender back. He’s got to have some reinforcement back there. He can’t be the only guy changing ends. Nick’s taking advantage of the lack of numbers. We talked earlier about Robinson getting more transition looks. Perhaps Brunson will as well. You think about especially in the playoffs as Uber knocks that down, how hard he have to work for every bucket. Well, and just by speeding things up, you’ve increased the number of possessions, which gives you a chance to do more. That by definition is what comes with the increase in possessions, an opportunity to make more plays. Maxi takes it on the move, challenging Bridges like he always does via the penetration, via the dribble drive. OTM and Obi will return to the game board for the Knicks replacing the other seven. One more for Maxi New York. Good trip for Maxi. Bridges on the drive. Banks it home. Too easy. One pass and a drive all the way to the basket. [Music] [Applause] zone here from the Nickers. Chandler misfires, forcing them to shoot as opposed to drive the basketball. Anobi working against Maxi and OG will head to the line after this timeout. How will it sustain you as you go through the course of 82 games? 76ers the last couple of years learning the hard way the importance of having depth. It’s the old saying, the best ability is availability. There was a extreme lack of availability in Philadelphia last year. [Applause] UB is open. Too strong. McBry knocked around, but he controls the rebound. You can see how much attention is paid to Maxi on that down screen. The Knicks defense and Mike Brown would rather Kelly Ubé shoot that three than Maxi. And that’s what they got on that last exchange. Forced it out of Maxi’s hands. Approaching two minutes to go. Maxi firing and connecting. See why they don’t want him shooting it as often as he’d like. Things like that happen. But a wide openen Eastern Conference with the injuries to Jason Tatum and Tyrese Hallebertton. Throw in Joel Embiid and Paul George to that mix as well. And New York feels like the window. There are some uh new teams in the landscape, so to speak, or old teams that we’re used to seeing. They may be going by the wayside this season. Good teams have the expectation to compete for a title, but when you know the landscape quite like it is, does that really heighten the pressure or the way that you really approach the year? Well, I think there’s only a certain amount of opportunities you’re going to be given anyway. Every season has its own certain characteristics and you certainly don’t want to take any of them for granted thinking that something will open up in the future. You want to seize everything you can right now. And if you smell blood in the water with the Celtics being uh injuryrone so to speak and with a lot of movement in their roster as Janiah Broom responds um then yeah these are great opportunities. These are good days for you if you’re the Knicks or the Cavaliers. Knicks haven’t made the final since 99. Broom called for the foul. Coming back with everybody healthy, led by Vancero. There is a lot of talent down there in Orlando. Can Detroit, a team that New York knocked off in the playoffs, take a giant leap in a more open Eastern Conference? I believe they are also primed for some movement as well. Um, everybody there from Cade Cunningham on down just getting better, more experienced. Um, and so yeah, I I would keep an eye out for the Pistons, too. After many moons in the NBA darkness, they are now back into the light. Philadelphia. This is not going away just yet. [Applause] about keeping it closer to his 15. They’re chipping away. Double digit lead for the Knicks. Bubé spinning. Lost the handle. Three to shoot. Fires it up. Knocked away and last touch by Towns. Barlo competing with Towns for that offensive rebound. We touched on his 10 rebounds in the first game between these two. Maxi to trigger picked up by Brunson. Brunson sizing up Broom finds Towns as the trailer and Cat missing the layup. Don’t if you’re a big guy. UB converts on the other end. Silk and smooth able to use that long reach too to finish in traffic. Brunson attacking and he’ll head to the line. Steady aggressive as Jen steady aggressive. Picked up the foul. Watch this. What’s the next step for Brunson and a Mike Brown offense? Oh, I think for me um he’s always going to have the ability to play in the fourth quarter. I think if he gets to the point now where he can and every once in a while they’ll take care of themselves and make sure they’re still locked in as the game goes on. But it’s the fourth quarter where this guy excels um most and that’s the best quality to have. So you want to make sure you nurture that. Don’t ask too much more of Jaylen. Lie on his teammates. Clutch player of the year last year. tiptoes the sideline, attacks the rim, and what a finish against two defenders. People talked about his size or lack thereof. Will he be able to finish? But what you underestimate is his strength and the ability to create that space, whether it’s on the drive or in the half court set. About to embark on his eighth pro season. His fourth with New York. Two second difference between game and shot clock. Ubé launches. Long rebound tracked by Brunson. End of the half and Brunson is to be part of the rotation. Mentioned Landry Shamat. He’s also in the lineup defending in the corner there. Donning I believe is his number. Spinning and hitting is Jabari Walker. Walker with the big body using it there. good example of what he’s capable of doing. He and Bona, the backbone of the Sixer defense right now. Brogden got first half minutes. He’s out there with this unit as Yabuselli looking for Shamid on the cut. Had his pass interrupted. BJ Echkum threw it away. The rookie out there to start the second half as well. Work so hard as Walker did on that last exchange. Now you do not want to just be careless with the basketball and giving it back needlessly. Mcome Dier started on Thursday. He’s out there for the first time today. Former first round draft pick now in his second year with New York. He’s up a three. That is too strong. Nick’s doing a good job of spreading the floor, finding open guys, just unable to connect right now. Walker on the back down of Shamid. Sham using his strength to keep the bigger Walker out of the lane. Knocked away. Yabuselli. Good job by the Knicks defense. Clarkson. Another look at three. And that’s off the front of the rim. And Yabuselli called for the loose ball foul. Bubé with the great rebound. Contact by Yabuselli knocking him off of his feet. Sixers trying to spread the floor. A little shell offense formation and then just drive and attack defenders. Walker that time putting it on the floor. Dier is charged. The foul to send Jabari Walker to the line. Walker on the drive. You see him initiating the contact. Dier in the vulnerable defensive position. Walker at the Shamid didn’t did a nice job bodying up Walker a possession ago. Dier could not duplicate that effort. Walker’s second free throw. first year with Philadelphia after his first three seasons out of Colorado. Spent with Portland, assigned last year to the Trailblazers G-League Club. Brogden all the way in and one. Again, that little herkyjerky stop go movement that it’s always been a part of his game. So adept of keeping defenders off balance. Brogden completes the three-point play. The veteran buzz around the Knicks in the preseason with both Brogden and Shamid signed before camp opened up is that because of their cap situation, the Knicks, as things stand with their roster currently constructed, cannot keep both into the regular season. Some interesting decisions that are going to have to be made moving forward. Bubé running the floor. Misses the bunny. Wouldn’t be surprised though, whoever doesn’t get selected finds another home somewhere else. Both having been in the league for quite a while. Now, Lucelli muscles it up. Ubé rebounds the miss. Shamid in some ways the incumbent as he spent last year with the organization. Brogden was with Washington. UB again forcing the action and we’ll head to the line. We haven’t seen a lot of intricate offensive sets here by the Sixers. It’s basically been just a shell five around putting the ball on the floor and going at the defenders. So Maxi is off the floor, but there are a handful of starters that remain out there for the 76ers, including Ubé Bona. Edcom getting time in the second half as well for Nick Nurse. Walker and Chandler round out the lineup. Still within striking distance. Down to Baker’s dozen are the Sixers. Jam fires. got hit by Ubé and now Landry will go to the line for three. It was interesting to watch that presentation as over the last couple years players got quite creative in the ways that they would attack the shooting hands. And what I love what Monty said too, and it’s so true, is they will stretch every letter of the rule book to their advantage, get as much out of whatever they can. Um, and so yeah, they felt like they had to at least address that a little bit. And shooters across the league are very happy about it. Their shooting hands are better protected leaguewide. Exactly. Nice with the little fullcourt pickup here. Mike Brown not content with just sitting back and having a 16-point lead. Interesting to see both Brogden and Shamid share the floor as they compete for one of the final Knicks roster spots. Beautifully done inside for two. And it’s interesting that they’re both competing because they’re I think not very similar as far as their games are concerned. Brogden certainly I don’t think can shoot like Shammit can and I don’t think Landry can conduct an offense like Brogden can. So you’re really kind of looking at two different kinds of players and seeing well what type of player fits better for our needs. UB from the outside. He stays aggressive. That trail position jump shot. Defense collapses into the lane and leaves Kelly open. little double dribble action going on. I think a little bit more of a cleancut decision if they were two similar types of games, but they’re not. One gives you something while the other one gives you something completely different. And I think it’s just a matter of what you think your team’s going to need for the course of the year. Chandler nicely done as he finds an opening underneath. Nine-point difference. Chandler keeping the We talked about the Shamut and Brogden battle on the New York side. Any kind of last roster spots in your mind still up for grabs on the 76ers side? Well, I mean, you got to be looking at Walker, you’ve got to be looking at Barlo. None. These aren’t like the the last spots, but these are spots I’m interested to see how much they can impress. So, they can come regular season time be really in the mix as far as minutes and the rotation. I’m curious to see because let’s face it, like sure, we could also focus on the number 15th guy or the 14th guy, but I’m curious to see who the seventh, eighth, and ninth guy is and what their role is going to look like. Hedgecom still out there, the rookie out of Baylor, the number three overall pick this past June. With the exception of last year, the 76ers in the past have had one of the best starting fives in the NBA. The question over the last several years has always been the bench. Can you find complimentary pieces? Last year because of their injuries wos their starting five also suffered a lot as far as production is concerned. So they’re looking to kind of write the ship here in a lot of different ways. Dier after his own miss was looking for backto-back buckets. Hakorti checks in along with Garrison Matthews who impressed in his Knicks debut on Thursday, knocking down a trio of threes, trying to swing the ball from one side to the other. The Sixers and Justin Edwards anticipating that crosscourt pass, getting a piece of it, causing the turnover. So the Knicks with Dier Kohic and Hakorty on the floor and Edgecom again a rim rocker. Nice find too by his teammates that time. Edwards penetrating and finding a streaking edge. Dier Kick and Hakorty all secondyear players for the Knicks. Oh, and the hot shooting for Matthews continues from Thursday. That’s his fourth tray in the last two games. Well, and that doesn’t come as a surprise. If you know the game, you know Matthews is a capable shooter and Edgecom has got to learn that quickly coming off of that down screen a little late. Matthews in his seventh year as a pro. Walker heading right back to the line. Matthews made nice back door cut catching the defender off guard on that wing and number 51 Matthews telling me he can’t come off late on that screen. This is what I do for a living. Leave me open and I knock down jumpers says Matthews. You know 21 players that’s that’s a lot of scout to learn. It is a lot of scout to learn, especially especially when you when it’s all new to you, right? And you’re trying to figure it out. That’s a deep scout. Kick driving to Shamati battling for the rebound, but it is Walker that rips it away. Nick’s continuing to still crash the boards. Even when they have only one guy, sole rebounder in there, he’s still receiving the message that you’re there to rebound. Catch and shoot off target for Dominic Barlo. You mentioned him and Jabari Walker, both current members of the 76ers on two-way deals. possibility for maybe one or both of them to have their contracts converted to a standard deal. That’s part of the pre-season roster intrigue that you were talking about. Certainly want to help put your best foot forward right now in the preseason because why? Probably the most opportunities you’re going to get in consecutive days in games here in the preseason. Aporti takes advantage of Drummond. Played awful there, huh? He’s almost daring him to shoot that. Aporti ate up the real estate and laid it in. And the veteran said, “How about a three right in the eye?” Yeah, because that’s in the scouting report, right? Defend defend Drummond for three. Drummond with good hands slaps it away from Hucky. Walker into the body of Kolic and finishes through contact. 76ers making another push. Jabari walk and Matthews. [Applause] Action off the ball by the Knicks. Matthews slips. It rolls to Dier. Polic misses everything and Hakorti is called for the loose ball foul. Sixers doing a good job of blocking out on that last shot attempt, forcing that reach foul. And this foul charge to New York’s area. That’s his second personal foul. Now five team fouls against the go. So Drummond’s in a battle with perhaps a Dem Bona for some backup big minutes. Bona starting both Thursday and today known for his speed, athleticism, but as you talked about before, if you’re going to play for Nick Nurse, you have to defend and rebound. And for Bona, that rebounding component is the thing that he’s really looking to when you want to. Mohamed Dawara in along with Kevin McCuller the dump off to Hawk Cordy and he finishes with the off hand again penetration so important rightfully so a lot of attention is paid to the guy who’s driving the basketball but that sets up a lot of things good things for his teammates around him Drummond the handoff now swung to Walker takes it to the cup Drummond with his feet set nearly knocked down another three. It’s a brave new world in this NBA, huh? Where the four drives and kicks it to the five in the corner for three. Matthews te’s it up. Not that time. Knocked out of bounds off of Both teams will have about a week off before they’re back in preseason action. Matthews wanted a chance at a four-point play. And it’s Philadelphia foul charged to number 11. Foul called. Second close out. See it again. Crack at the one more free throw for Matthews. One more for Matthews. Dicks regain a double figure lead. They’ve kept Philadelphia at a distance, but the 76ers remain in striking distance. Brown continuing to coach these guys up. He is forcing this backup unit, second unit, whatever you want to call it, pick up full court. Not letting up at all on the defensive end for this particular unit. Malcolm Hill in for the first time. The NBA and G-League veteran does not beat the shot clock. And look at the way that the Knicks bench erupts after the violation. Well, and you can see that that defensive intensity caught the Sixers a little bit off guard. They were not ready to handle that. Did not know how to counteract that and attack it. Subsequently used every bit of that 24 seconds. Kick off balance. Rebound is down to Drummond. Edwards running in transition. Hill pulls the trigger. Too strong. Diara finds Matthews who couldn’t knock it down. And you can see with this unit, they’re not quite as adept at running as the first unit for the Knicks were, but they are still they got the memo and they’re still trying to force the issue though. Carlo picks up the foul attacking the rim and two defenders at the cup. So there is a starter. Five guys around zero, nobody in the post and you’re swinging the ball looking for an advantage over the defense. somebody running at you, running at you out of position. And that’s what Barlo saw and took advantage. Final 70 seconds of the third quarter. Rookie Dawara Matthews fighting for a roster spot. Could not convert. Knicks led by 12 at halftime. And that is Edwards, the lefty in his second year out of Kentucky. Started last year on a two-way deal. Was converted to a standard contract as he plays for his hometown team. Nice release. Great form. There’s Edwards on his jumper. [Applause] 76 are foul when he charged the number 14 Kennedy Champion. That’s his first personal foul now five. They’ll get some help in the front court with the addition of Yabuselli, but if Hawky can make a jump and the next step that’ll help the Knicks fortunes in case Robinson has to miss any type of time. Well, and there’s opportunities to be had. You can make a career out of it. Ask Isaiah Hartenstein how things are going for him, right? He was a more than serviceable backup in New York and that translated into a nice contract for him out west and a championship. Game and shot clock almost identical. Pick takes Barlo out to midcourt. No fouls here. You don’t want to bail guys out. Make things difficult for the offensive players. There you go. And Barlo did just that to bring us to the end. Got into the Knicks lead. Important for the Sixers out on the floor to leave this game with good thoughts, right? To have a positive effect. You want the coaches as they board that long flight home to have a good idea about what you’re capable of bringing to the table. For the Sixers and subsequently for the Knicks, too. This is a zero zero ball game as far as the players out on the floor are concerned right now. Charge to number 36. That’s a knee injury. ressigned with the Knicks this past off season on another two-way deal [Music] and part of that affforementioned quartet of secondyear players with Kick and Dier and Hawki looking to make the jump in their sophomore year. What’s interesting from a Nick standpoint is that they’ve brought in veterans over the top of those guys. Gabeli and Clarkson in particular, perhaps a Shamid resign or a Brogden introduction in which these secondyear players are really going to have to go out and prove it and earn their time as McCull ahead of the field could not convert. Well, I think any contending team is going to have a situation where the minutes that you fight for are deemed valuable, right? And that they are precious and they aren’t just handed out lightly. You’ve got to earn your time. Look at the big fella. spoke at Sixers media day last week for the first time since his surgery and wasn’t so clear on a timetable when it comes to Joel Embiid. Yeah, I know a lot of Sixer fans, most Sixer fans want to see him in red, white, and blue as opposed to street clothes. New York basketball off the turnover back to New York with 10 plus to go. [Music] A hand off to Matthews. Defense switching everything out on the perimeter. A cordi the catch. Diara swung to Kohic. One to shoot and McCuller taps it back in. Split the double team at the elbow and then no one blocks out. Got a competitor on that exchange. The veteran Andre Drummond is logging some fourth quarter minutes. Dominic Barlo, a starter out there as well. Justin Edwards lets it rip. Too strong. Guy like Walker you expect to be in there perhaps right now just getting a little bit of a blow. Dawara catch and shoot. Nicely done. Barlo had to run in a country mile to get to close him out. He was on one opposite corner and had to run to the far corner and just didn’t get there in time. Asking a lot of that last line of defense from Barlo. Under 10 to play in this second preseason game for both teams. Playing twice in three days in Abu Dhabi is Malcolm Hill. Floats it at home. Last played with the Pelicans two years ago. 9-year veteran out of Illinois. Has logged three seasons in the NBA. Hill top of the key. Knocks it down. Good ball movement. Not a lot of intricate ball movement, but even the slightest ball movement forces the defense to have to adjust. That time the Knicks defense got a little confused by the setup. Pick rims out from the board. Nobody in there to rebound Andre the lone rebounder for the Sixers or anybody for that matter. And it’s going the other way. And we have an offensive saw was this is the previous jump shot. Three more fresh bodies in for the Knicks. Matt Ryan could do that. He’s got range as he’s into the game along with Toano who did not play on Thursday. [Applause] Trey Gon also checks into the Knicks lineup. Edwards gets to the rim. Could not finish. Edwards with a new uniform number. Last year was 19. Now deciding to go with 11. McCuller knocks down a three as he’s been productive here in the fourth. You can see how wide open he is. Again, this is a result of Mike Brown forcing his constantly. Defenses are unable to keep up. Culler comes down early, picks up an open jet. Lead balloons to 14. Complimentary pieces. Just reaching for it and picking up that foul. All three of the New York two-way contract signes are in the game. McCuller, Aoma, and Jes. And now at the ball, Philadelphia basketball, [Music] Walker driving, pivoting too strong. Janai Broom tried to keep it alive and it was knocked out of his hands. Broom the consensus first team all-American. absolutely right about where he he was as far as his status in the world of college basketball. It was he and Cooper flag last year for a good part of the season as far as who would be the player of the year. Um interesting to see him get drafted when he did, but at the same time, uh I think it’s a sign of the way the game is played right now. He is a physical big body and a guy who still has to work on his jump shot cuz let’s face it in this league everybody shoots three now and that’s something that Jana has to work on but at the same time there’s no question he’s a grown man on the inside. [Applause] Um golfing though I think would be the lesser of two. Um, being an Arab myself, I can tell you that getting on a camel is no simple task. Um, don’t sleep on that. The shock on the faces of the Knicks as the camel cuz the camel goes up first. The front. Yes. The front goes Yeah. So, you get dipped um because the back legs come up first and that always catches people off guard. It is Chandler Chandler a chance at a three-point play on that straight line drive. 76ers had a backup guard last year and Jeff Dton on a two-way deal that was needed quite a bit by the big club because of his way into a reserve backcourt role. Well, and we always talk about, especially last year with such a over overall change of the lineup from night to night, we talked about potential employers are out there somewhere, right? And you may not be necessarily auditioning as the Sixers get Chandler in transition. You may not be auditioning for the 76ers potentially, but there might be somebody else. And you see um that he lands now in McCabe, Tel Aviv. Does Jeff Different starting lineups? Is that what 53? Yes, indeed. In 82 games. It was an arduous um schedule last year. One that you know in the NBA or most professional sports, it’s unrelenting. They do not give quarter or expect quarter. And yeah, so the Sixers were forced to fend for themselves and it was tough going at times. Finished 13th out of 15 teams in the Eastern Conference. McCuller pushing his way to the basket. initiating that contact and scoring on the move. And that time it was basically a one-man fast break. But you can see those are can be effective too if you just keep on pushing, keep on pressing the issue. [Applause] [Music] The response there, Matthews open. Malcolm Hill has come off the bench to give the 76ers some good second half minutes. Chandler again pushing the action. You can see the Sixers, they will run when the opportunity presents itself as well. You have to ask yourself, why would you want to wait for the defense to get settled and come back in a fiveman force? You sometimes want to take the advantage of the lack of numbers defensively. Walker with the block. It leads to a hill three in transition that’s taken down by Jes. [Applause] They’re still a work in progress offensively. As far as the fast break is concerned, we have yet to see a lot of secondary breaks from them. It’s either the initial break or nothing, but I think that’s the next wrinkle that Mike Brown will put into his offense. And there is Matthews getting back to take the charge. Bench loving that by the 76ers with 426 to go. Learn anything today? We’ll start with the 76ers side. Um, well, I learned that they’re still not the team they want to be or anywhere close without their main guys, right? like what we’ve seen today from this team and what they was out on out on the court looks a lot like last year’s team, right? Because last year’s team went big stretches without Joel, without Paul George. And right now, not having them there, it’s hard to differentiate between this year and last year. Hopefully, that will change as things progress and we’ll have those guys in the lineup. But as of now, um looks like the same old same old unfortunate for the Knicks. new coach, new system, some new players. You’re starting to see a different product out there on the floor as far as aesthetically is concerned because this is a team that now wants to run as well. They were a grinded out team last year and for the last couple years under coach Thibido, Mike Brown, new regime trying to change things up a little. Now, WMA with a couple baskets in a row for the Knicks. Jes lays it in from Polic. And to your point about Philadelphia, no Grimes who resigned on October 1st, no George, no Embiid, McCain out with the thumb injury after a promising rookie campaign. To Jaylen, everyone else feels much more engaged than perhaps they did in the past. Out of their normal rotation pieces, who do you think has most to gain from the new system? Uh, well, big guys. Yeah, you know, I think the big guys because what you’ve got if you play Mitchell Robinson and Carl Anthony Towns at the same time, which will be rare, but you’ve got the lead guy running to the basket and then you’ve got Carl Anthony Towns in the perfect trail position. So, we talked about earlier that secondary break that we haven’t seen a lot from the Knicks yet. Part is because they didn’t have to have really to use it that much. Their initial break was really good today. But when they get to that secondary break, that’s when guys like Towns can thrive, too. So teams really have to pick their poison. Do you want to defend the lob or are you going to put a body on that trailer to guard against the three? Well, and the first thing you have to do is you have to commit to getting everybody back on defense. And that’s a tall order for Carl Anthony Towns. Kennedy Chandler has come off the bench. for a pre-season rotation. St. Thomas is in for the first time, [Applause] which gives them 12 different players seeing action today. Unable. Look at this. How does Chandler get his hands on that? That’s the kind of thing if Mike Brown had hair, he would turn gray. 19 different Nicks have seen time. Josh Hart was ruled out before the game for some lower back stiffness. And you figured with Josh’s absence that the rebounding would suffer a little bit because he’s just so darn good at rebounding, especially for his sides. Matt Ryan got to his spot but couldn’t hit. It’s down to Edwards. [Music] 145 left. Knicks trying to hold on and take two from Philadelphia. Malcolm Hill the offensive rebound and a chance. Sixers not making it easy down the stretch on the Knicks after Philadelphia shot just three of 35 from beyond the arc on Thursday. Better outside shooting today. They can use a couple of threes here down the stretch with 90 seconds to go. Back door to Hill, but he missed the layup. Have to finish that. [Applause] McCuller on the bounce. Kick rejected, but it ricochets right back to him for the bank shot. Lead is back to seven for New York. Teams have a long flight back headed west back east. Weird to say it that way, but 76ers lose the handle. Kick denied. Chandler sticking with it, not allowing the easy basket on the other end. Chandler, despite being short in stature, showing you his athletic ability, the leaping ability, got up quickly and got that shot. Can Chandler make enough of an impression over these next couple of weeks to earn himself an NBA contract? Just on an E10 deal for now. JSON through traffic with the shot clock off and commits the foul after missing the layup. Body strewn all over the floor. Foul charge number 53. 13.4. Four to go. Couple teams meeting in Abuhabi with different expectations on the season. Philadelphia hoping to get healthy and put a team on the floor that on paper can be one of the best teams in the East. The Knicks feel like they have the horses to make a run to the finals and get one step further than their Eastern Conference loss a season ago. JSON on the baseline with a couple of seconds to go and that will do it. 112 104
