Not sure if this will get answered here, but does anyone know what the circles are? Why are they glowing? I got it at tonight's Caps game and took this picture immediately after I caught it. Is it tracking for the cameras or just a trick of the light? They disappeared shortly after this picture was taken.

the pucks have little microchips inside them for stat tracking. i assume the dots are a part of that system
I googled NHL puck tracking and am seeing results similar to this! I didn’t know and that’s pretty cool!
They’re infrared tubes, yes they’re used for tracking the puck!
Those are infrared emitters. You can’t see that light, but your camera can.
The color scheme tells you the player’s life clock crystal. This Logan Thompson puck shows he is 27 and just three years from renewal.
Careful, they’ll follow you home!
The Puck tracking system is activated when the linesman drops the puck on the faceoff. The battery lifetime is very short (not more than a couple of minutes IIRC), that’s why the lights turned off shortly after you got it.
Keep it. It’s a very unique item.
Is this still just being tested in preseason? I remember players didn’t like the feel of the tracked pucks when the NHL did some testing
🤷🏼♀️
and they still can’t determine if the puck has crossed the goal line?!?!?
It’s for FoxTrax.
Those things hurt when they hit you from the other side of the ice (I know from experience). Awesome that you got it. I never knew they had trackers for stats in them
This is all my brain is thinking right now “But Yankees they win The World Cup,
me think they cheat use glowing puck.
Maybe if we want to win her,
maybe we should play in winter.”
It’s for tracking. Like shot speed and to help track who scored since it can be kinda hard to see who did at times. Overall, it just helps with stats and just tracks it, making it easier
