This was SO dumb

Oh, the duality of preeason. I don’t really know where to start this video, so just let me rant for a minute, then I’ll show you an Unreal clip. But preeason is dumb. Not dumb because the players don’t need the conditioning to get ready for this season. But plays like this make you stop and wonder what is really going on here. Tonight’s preseason shenanigans or last nights were in Florida as the battle of Florida raged on between Tampa and the Panthers. And it’s almost as if AJ Greer decides to go out tonight and oneup Nick Cousins as he sucker punches Brandon Hegel for no reason. Like look, he’s along the boards with Greer. Greer gives Hegel a shot in the back and when he turns to face him, whap. First, he smacks Hegel in the face with his stick. Hegel responds with a dude relax. It’s preseason look. But there was some rage deep inside this man as Greer doubles down and throws the sucker punch. And not just one, he gets a couple of shots in. Meanwhile, the ref is right behind him with his arm up. Great job calling the penalty there, Chief. Next time, let’s jump in and try to protect players who are apparently getting ragdalled. And it’s not like this has been the only incident. Just the night before, as I already mentioned, Nick Cousins, another one of the NHL’s greasiest guys, takes a hard slash on Demidov behind the play. Also that same night, we saw the Flames resident dumbass posil take a head shot at Vince Dunn in front of the net, and Dunn would leave the game. Something’s got to give here because these stupid plays make the meaningless preseason hockey even less fun. Preseason is meant for conditioning, for trying out players, seeing what fast, highlevel NHL hockey is like. It’s also supposed to grow the game. Often you’ll see preseason games in places like Halifax while also being pretty light-hearted. But this is just nonsensical. And I’m sorry for these teams having their stars start the season hobbled. These are big names. Demidov may be the most skilled player on the Habs and the odds favorite to win rookie of the year. Hegel the Bagel is one of the league’s top scorers and was on the NHL’s second all-star team last year. Vince Dunn is a Stanley Cup winner, assistant captain of the Kraken, and certainly no slouch either. Then you got the aggressors, Nick Cousins, Marty Pospasil, and AJ Greer. They look, especially in this case, like a group of bums. When Pat Maroon calls out your actions as gutless, it’s time to take a look in the mirror. You can’t disappoint the big rake. And at this point, I’m starting to feel like players should start getting bigger suspensions for this kind of crap. It takes away from any kind of exhibition of talent and skill, and it’s turning preeason into slop time. Anyway, we’ve got a great goal to look at in a second. Gary, however, please do something. The fines aren’t working. Greer got hit with $2,000 for the sucker punch. That’s 26% of his annual salary. And Greer is basically on a veteran minimum. But here we are with the duality of preseason as we mentioned. Well, this trash got me fired up and poed. We also from the very same battle of Florida got a dirty dangle and just a hell of a goal by Morgan Geeky. And this one probably needs a not safe for work tag. Geeky comes into the zone, completely bust Seth Jones’s ankles, turns him to dust, finishes it off by ripping the biscuit top cheddar. Highlight reel goal would be one for the year if it was regular season. And that does get me hyped up for the NHL to start in what, 4 days? Puck drops Tuesday. How excited are you? If you missed it the other nights battle of Florida between the Panthers and the Bolts was just a total gongshow that almost ended up with 200 PIMs. Just totally ridiculous but hey, at least we got a goal of the pre-season out of it I suppose. That and more in today’s NHL hockey video!

  1. Now do a video on how gutless Tampa is for calling up AHL lifers for the sole purpose of trying to injure Panthers players. At least Florida did it with their NHL guys.

  2. This isn't the worst in preseason, idiotic violence. Way back in the old days, the savage Ted Greene-Wayne Maki stick swinging duel that put Greene on the critical list and gave Maki brain cancer will hopefully never be surpassed.

  3. Just to clarify—breaking up scrums isn’t the referee’s role, it’s the linesman’s. The referee needs to stay back and watch for penalties that might happen away from the pile—cheap shots, roughing, or instigators. If the ref jumps in, nobody is actually watching the play for those infractions. That’s why hockey separates the duties: linesmen handle scrums and faceoffs, refs handle calling penalties and keeping an eye on the bigger picture with their riot pad out.

  6. The game on 10/4 did over 300 PIM. The Lightning didn't come to actually play hockey. Talk about cheap shots, the only thing on TB's mind was intent to injure last night.

    I think I would. The games mean nothing. It's about players getting legs and learning new systems. No need to ruin a whole season from some unfortunate injury in a meaningless game

    The fact that he ever graced NHL ice proves he's watched Bill Zito commit a Hate Crime & AJ is holding on the evidence as his Bargaining Chip.

This really was dumb "hockey" game and next rivalry game was even more stupid when Cooper dragged some wooden-handed AHL nobodies into the match. 👎 This two teams games supposed to be best and highest quality ice hockey and not any English ice hockey beer league, where the types of games are understandable and are ok 🤔

    Bettman should wake up. These two rivalry games make so bad for league image. This was not physical hockey, just smashing not hockey 👇

  33. Premeditated assault. Cowardly multiple sucker strikes. Didn't even get a suspension – they must have hired NYC 'judges' to run NHL discipline this year. That plus Florida would be allowed to get away with a chainsaw massacre… maybe…maybe a 2 minute penalty for delay of game.

  36. Ya longer suspensions are needed, Cousins i believe got a $2000 fine also. That's literally pocket change. When there's an intent to injure, there should be suspensions, and longer and longer, til its a whole season, then next one, ur done.
