I don’t really get this take. We called up the best replacements that we had for our roster players. Does Shannon think that, after being shown that Florida will break the rules and will not be meaningfully punished for it, we were supposed to send out Point and Kucherov again? Someone had to replace them.
I think the narrative here is wrong. They didn’t call up goons to get revenge, they called up prospects to replace players who they were justifiably scared to let play. That meant a team of AHLers with no fear of suspensions carrying over the anger of last game, which may have been dangerous to Florida, but I don’t think this was as big a conspiracy as people are making it out to be. They had to give 20 bodies; who were they supposed to give?

Who cares.
Florida started it on Thursday and we ended it on Saturday.
Who gives a shit. They called up guys and those guys took care of business.
I get not liking how the game was played but we did what we had to do. If it spills over into the regular season then we can have some more serious conversations imo
Ahh yes that’s the problem and not the panthers icing a squad that plays with intent to injure every game.
If you play with intent to injure don’t be surprised it happens back to you. The panthers have earned all this and more and it seems like the majority of hockey fans agree.
I normally appreciate his fairly neutral viewpoint, but he had a shit take in this video.
Believe it or not, Dangle has a much better take.
He doesn’t always have the best / most accurate take. There is no coach who would send their actual roster out against a bunch of goons if they didn’t have to. Cooper did the smart thing. Panthers were clearly on their PED cycle early.
So the team that chose to protect its players is the problem, not the team being violent? Got it.
This guy hasn’t had a good take in his life. A few years ago when Kuch had his ribs broken from a cross check against the Islanders he said it was “good old time hockey”.
No idea how he keeps getting views.
Gotta admit I was kind of surprised by his takes. I have all the respect for him, and he claims to watch every game, but he came across as kind of clueless and ignorant.
I appreciate Shannon for a lot of his takes and for the sheer amount of quality content that he produces.
It’s clear to me that Shannon loves the game of hockey in a way that few other people do, he truly loves and supports the sport itself, if not any individual team.
But because of this, I think Shannon has an idealized version of the sport and what it should/could be that is sometimes at conflict with reality.
From an objective perspective, the league should be horrified about what just happened. This game didn’t get out of control, because there was absolutely nothing the league or referees could have done from the beginning to keep it under control, and that failure comes from the league itself.
Guys like Shannon who have this “ideal” version of hockey don’t like to see so much of the rough stuff, and truth be told I can’t say I really blame them. I don’t necessarily agree with them, but I see their perspective.
For me, this game was a lot of catharsis, seeing out boys finally take the fight to the Cats. I don’t like that it has come to this, but I absolutely respect and support our boys for standing their ground.
I couldn’t care less about his take on what happened. The majority of the Lightning fan base and it sounds like a majority of the NHL fan base are OK with how things went.
I am 99% sure this dude only watches Canucks games and gets everything else piece mealed from headlines and social media takes – he’s a sweet aging jersey collector, but he’s got Ned Flanders ass takes on a lot of shit – TL/DR – he didn’t watch the games, why should we care what he thinks lol
I saw this and was thinking he didnt see the game where Hagel got concussed. He commented on the fine, but that was it.
Anyone who saw this guys coverage of the panthers last year knows he simply isn’t paying attention, period, end of story.
The comments section is having a hayday telling him how he’s wrong lol
Coops done with Florida’s cheap shots with little or no consequences from the NHL . Knock a star out of the game or games with a$2000 fine to a millionaire . How about some suspensions . If you flagrantly injured a player you should be suspended for as long as that player is out .
I normally like him, his thoughts on this game were so wrong it’s not even funny.
I usually like his videos, but he can go fuck himself for this. Florida is a team full of goons. The way to fight goonery is with goonery. I don’t know why Tampa had the players on the ice that they did and neither does THG. Every team needs to ice the goon squad whenever they play Florida until Florida cuts the shit.
Yea, what a bad take from Shannon. I get he tries to keep up with every team and almost every game, but if you’re going to start criticizing last night you need to look at the bigger picture.
Not sure I am interested in his videos anymore.
I think it’s funny when he corrected himself saying Greer should be suspended but then said punished instead. That’s the whole point of everything. If he was suspended none of this happens. The lightning wanted to put the biggest spotlight as possible on this and mission was accomplished but sadly nothing will change cuz it’s been happening for years.
This is the first time I’m in complete disagreement with THG. The comments definitely sum up how everyone feels though. Every single comment is in agreement that the DoPS has and still is treating the Panthers unfairly with the rest of the league. When they can get away with whatever they want, why would you start your stars in a preseason game of all times?
THG I like but I do disagree with him on some topics.
Why should we put our top guys out there in a meaningless game against those thugs? Hell, I’d sign Raffi Torres to a one-day just to deal with these fucksticks. This will escalate until someone’s career gets cut short.
I’m a big fan of his and I usually like his sober approach to journalism BUT I was terribly disappointed at his out of context view of perpetrators and victims post.
Hagel comes back from a serious injury to face another unprovoked intent to injure. Now he’s out again. I understand he got even with a goon in the 4 nation’s games but he was penalized by the Panthers already.
The Panthers, especially Bennett, intentionally injured their way to a second cup; what is their grievance? Only one team goes out to injure opponents and regularly escapes consequences.
If the NHL can’t do it’s own policing the players will take action.
This is the way. It’s always been the way.
Man, I read this as TGH and was so confused on how we pissed off Tampa General Hospital lol
I think it was a pretty smart move on Cooper’s part. I also think he was just protecting his top players by sitting them. Of course, if you do that, you need to field a team, so call up some guys.
If Sabourin gets suspended, so should Greer have been suspended for the Hagel stuff the game previous. For those whining about Hagel and Barkov during the playoffs last year, remember, Hagel was suspended.
The fact that the lightning players will probably be suspended will just give more visibility to the idea that the league lets the same nonsense go for the Panthers. Why isn’t the league calling Verhaeghe?
I have no doubt the next team victimized by the Panthers will not hold anything back.
I usually like Shannon, but he is not seeing the big picture with this take.
The only thing I’m worried about is the League making an example out of us and us getting no calls our way the rest of this season. It’s a thing.
Oh no, a guy with a white board and camcorder critized someone.
How will we ever survive
I don’t like what this has come to either, but I don’t see why he thinks it’s reasonable that Greer and Verhaeghe didn’t get anything for intentionally hurting two of our players in a preseason game.
