Together All The Time: The Story of the 2024-25 Detroit Pistons | Original Documentary
What’s up? It’s what? Together all the time. All the time. I said together all the time. You ain’t the same Pistons no more. They is not the same Pistons no more. The world understands this. It’s helped the Pistons win 38 games this season, more than they’ve had in the last two seasons combined. Detroit basketball, man. Come on, man. Detroit basketball. How real are the Detroit Pistons? I can’t believe I am shell shocked at what I have seen in Detroit. All the time all the time together. And the Pistons losing streak has reached 25. We’ll end up in their 26 consecutive balls. It is a new single season NBA record. 27 consecutive games. It makes no sense how they lost 27 games in a row. Like you’ve seen some bad teams. Like this is not that. No way are we that bad. I want to say I ain’t feeling good. I ain’t cuz I’m not feeling good about the season, but at the same time, there’s a lot to feel good about. I kind of feel like you need to go through times like this to get to the top. Pistons will wrap up the regular season with the record of 14 and 68. have an off season to look forward to with the draft and what free agents to bring in. Uh a very important offseason. Treasure got this job not by his experience, but the many number of people we interviewed had a lot of experience as well. I just didn’t think any one of them could execute at the level Trajan could. And I understand the pain of last year. I mean, we feel it. Our family feels it. Uh I thought about what we would need. I really felt that the best choice for the organization was a fresh start. So what we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is a president of basketball. I want us to do this together. I want to do it with high character, hardworking, competitive people with a Detroit Pistons mindset. Detroit Pistons select Ron Holland II. This has to be an organization where we compete at the highest level and the expectations are going to have to be that every day. It starts with with us. I think we should be demanding on whoever the next coach is. And so the head coach we’re going to bring in is going to have to be somebody who inspires our players to do that as well. Uh and I’ll be I’ll be aligned with them. The Detroit fans will love guys who compete their tails off. to basketball. [Music] [Applause] I have so many fresh faces in the building. It’s exciting for everybody. My mindset for this year is just to come in every day and be my best self, uplift my team, try to push everybody to be their best self. You know, I do always believe the best teams are the teams that have the best chemistry and the teams that can find that chemistry in tough moments of adversity. What’s up, Nike? What’s up? He got him. I don’t got I was signed to Nike before he was I asked him. I asked him I pressed him about it. You right now going to get fed. That’s all. We play together, you know, we fully have faith in each other. I feel like that’s when you take the next step. You know, it’s going to take togetherness. The vision JB has all buy into that. We’re doing our job. Shouldn’t be a problem. I think a lot of times when people say young teams, you know, they keep talking about development, development, and their development is just about the individual. What we try to focus on is development, but within a team system on both offense and defense that at the same time, as the players get better, the team gets better as well. Hoping and and working for this to be a great year for us. And I think we’ll have a lot of growth this year. The people that we have around here, the culture around here is really amazing. So, I think we ready to take steps in the right direction and make some noise. I want to finish this year saying that this was the closest team that I’ve been on in my career. [Music] What’s up? Ready to go? Let’s go, y’all. Detroit basketball, new era, man. Come turn up with us if you’re ready. I’m ready to get down to the business. A summer of change brings new beginnings to downtown Detroit where Kate Cunningham leads his hardworking teams into a new season. Live from Little Caesars Arena, it’s opening night between the Pistons and the Indiana Pacers. [Applause] What’s up everybody? On behalf behalf of myself, my teammates, coaches, ownership, whole organization, we want to thank you guys for all the support. We’re excited to have a great year and we’re going to need you all the way along this whole journey. Let’s get it started. Let’s go. [Applause] Here we go. Hardway fires top side, fills it up, streaking to the rim. Harris for a dunk. Nick Beasley to the basket. took a hit. Isaiah Stewart’s not giving up. That’s grit right there. And that’s how the Pistons have to play at all times. There’s some contention between these two teams. This is the part of the game with the Pistons where you just got to hang in there, hunker down, and not get dismayed in a fist fight so far. George, this a dog fight out there. Kate Cunningham spinning to the rim. Scoop and scores. Stop. Go to the basket. Scoops and scores off the window. Count that baby in a foul. That’s a half a screen. Two seconds. One. K with a shot. He hits it. 85 distance lead inside for Jaylen Dur and a jam. Five on the clock. Three on the clock. He’ll fire and fill it. Wow. It’s a three-point game. Callebertton with the clock at eight. Bounces inside. [Applause] from the sideline. Unbelievable. And the Pacers won’t shoot it. They survive here at Little Caesar’s Arena. This is one of those things where we’re going to keep getting better at it, you know, and understanding, you know, how you put together a half, how you put together three quarters, four quarters. Uh, but the will is there. And that’s all she wrote tonight in Cleveland. Miss undone by their 22 turnovers. 22 empty possessions is hard to overcome. I knew coming in that this will take time. With that all being said, it’s it’s two games. What a heck of an effort here tonight, but you’re going to come up short again. Now, the biggest hurdle is figuring out how to finish. That’s it. These guys are setting the foundation uh of what Pistons basketball is going to look like for the future. That grit, that toughness, they’ve got it. And that’ll probably do it. Pistons with a heck of an effort, but they’ll still be looking for their first win of the season when they get to Philly on Wednesday. What are they brewing? Tobias. Oh, I forgot in Philadelphia. Tobias backs in on Ubรฉ Jr. lifts it up and fills it up. Kane Kane passes tipped swiped by Jane Nis. He’s ahead of the pack for a slam. Pistons 50, Philly 42. Tim Hardway Jr. They lo and Kobayas tapped it in. Had their biggest leads for Gate. Gate to the basket for another stop by nine early. You guys have flipped the script a little bit. What’s working for you guys right now? Energy, defense, being physical, goddamn grit. That’s what we doing right now. It’s a grown man game tonight and I love it. Everybody had a chip on their shoulder. Something to prove. I was thinking it’s time to win some games. Rebound comes off to Jaden Ivy. Jaden way up for Tobias and he slams it and he’s fouled. Take that Bluebirds. Sweet revenge. There’s a swipe by Jaden. Watch out to the rim. Hammers it down. He windmilled that baby. Tell you what, the Now the fans are starting to boo the Sixers. Yeah, how about that? Clearly the most fun the Pistons have had this season happening right now. Jaden Ivy knocking them dead here in Philly. And the Pistons get their first win of the season. These guys deserve some hugs and some smiles. [Applause] Style we want to play play with that grit and that toughness. Um You know that togetherness and win it the hard way. What you got folks? Together on three. [Applause] You heard they was screaming my name. Toby. Toby. The New York City Marathon lining up the streets which you know that makes for some traffic jams as you can imagine. No one felt the traffic jams worse than the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons were in town to play the Brooklyn Nets. They had to get to Barlays. Couldn’t get there so they hopped on the subway. Should we make a nice vlog? He outside right now, man. You do this all day. You do this. This your first time on the the subway. Nit. That’s fire. Boom. We made it, baby. That a smooth little ride. Easy. We here at the bar place subway for the game. We here. That’s it. Game time, baby. Let’s get it. Tim Hardway puts it on the floor and puts it down. Where’d that come from? Where did that come from? From the Holy Ghost didn’t have it the other night, but they’ve had it tonight. Look out, Los Angeles Lakers. Topside bounce to Jaden Ivy. Here’s the longer it goes. Jaden Ivy with a huge hoop. I see growth here tonight. I saw it in Brooklyn last night. High character win for a high character team. This has won three of their last four. Off to Bridges. Back to Green. Grant Williams. Misses, but back up and in. Was it in time? And Charlotte has won a thriller down here at their place. I mean, we’re a team that’s just not going to stop through adversity, through any hard times that are thrown at us. We’re going to keep on marching. We’re going to keep fighting. And I think that’s the quality that we have that separates us from the rest of the league. Outside goes to Kade against Dyson Daniel. Drives it to the basket. Hits it. Kiss the glass for the score. You know how tough that was with a left hand. Wow. Nail biter in Charlotte two nights ago. Nail biter right now here in Detroit. Here we go. 7 seconds. 6 seconds. Five. Trey Young crosses over. Gets to the basket. lays it off and the Cops can’t lay it in. What a finish. A fist fight to the very end. How do you feel? Feel great, man. Feel great. Glad I come through for my team. Great team win. [Applause] Together, man. All the time, man. Together on three. 1 2 3. I think early on we started the season and it was one of those things where guys knew we’re we’re better than what we think you know over that time it just took figure out how to close out games 7 seconds 6 seconds hero from the baseline off the high glass good with 1.8 We kind of gave it away there in the fourth quarter. Um, but it just came down to really us capitalizing on those type of opportunities. That was a great play that coach drew up for JD. They back off. Lob it inside. Jaylen Duran with the jam. What an out- of- bounds play. They called timeout and they don’t have one. That’s a technical foul and Malik Beasley is going to shoot it. It’s over. They got it. What an amazing game. Yes, sir. We fight to the end, baby. Oh, come on, baby. Pick it up. Threeon two for Detroit to Sasser spots for three. Book it. 9085. Pistons in front with 6 and 12 to go. But Detroit’s going to secure the win. 2 and 0 in the NBA Cup. Pistons with a nailbiter. They’ll take it. The roar you hear from the crowd a little bit muffled, but they saw our Thompson. He’s on the court for the first time since last March. So happy to see him out there. He brings a lot to our team. We call him the eliminator. Snaps the pass inside and Sar Thompson scores it off the square. Making plays of Sar Thompson. Welcome back. To see him out there tonight was was really special. 10 seconds way out near the timeline. Easley comes and screens. 4 seconds, 3 seconds, two. Jaden Ivy from the baseline buries it at the horn. Pistons win. Jaden Ivy took it right to Toronto. It’s fun but kind of like weird at the same time. We’re like, “Okay guys, it’s just one or two games.” But when you see in their eyes, they’re on cloud nine. And just seeing them happy and with smiles on their faces, uh, it really meant something. [Music] You really get some rest, boy. Uh, man, I just told him I’m like, “Lord, you do something special, man.” And he came through. But what can I say? Lord did it today. Lord did it. So I just thank him that this is a turnover. Tobias with a clock at one. Fires, builds it up. Huge hoop for Tobias Harris. We got to go out and take the respect of this league. And you know when you earn the respect, when you earn the reputation, uh think those things change for you. Despite a spectacular game from Kate Cunningham, the Pistons fall short. We have to finish possessions and finish plays. And I thought that’s what we can take from this game learning wise and let’s go to the next one. This is a prize fight. The Pistons are going to keep on swinging until the final bell. Ditto for the Knicks. That’s why this has been such a great basketball game. You know, the Pistons have not won at Madison Square Garden since April of 2019. You know what I’m saying? Beat dogs. Come in here. Go take a game. You know what I’m saying? Like, don’t expect anything to be given to us. Don’t play soft. We’re going to go take a game. Go take a win. 11.5 seconds to go in regulation. The hero rises and fires and fills it up. And we’re going to overtime. Robinson is Jim Hardway Jr. answering and the Pistons needed that. Way up to Hardaway Jr. This for three and it’s through. Out of nowhere, Tim Hardaway Jr. rises, folks. Three. Hero with a long long three off the rim. Rebound to Sar Thompson. The Pistons win a thriller. you’re just in the moment and then you have like 10 games go by or so. Damn, we had like we crushed that run right there. Those set of games of it being really high intensity and playing for something. I think around that time and that moment, I really felt like we had a great group of guys that could compete at the highest level. [Music] I don’t bite. Come on. You got to always give back to the youth. They’re the next coming up, families, communities, man. Hey, get in there. Come on. Let me get a five. Let me get a five. Y’all are so beat me to a turkey gift. Okay. I like it. P Re trying to make sure that they have a good Christmas cuz you know, every kid really deserves to have a good Christmas. What’s up? What’s up? A hug. Come on, baby. Giving back is extremely important. I mean, you know that. Yeah, for sure. You know, inspiration. You’re inspiration. I really am into giving back to the community. It’s just amazing walking into places and being able to see kids smile and just show how the much of an impact that we have on their life. So, I really enjoy doing that. Threading the defense. Monteio back to Kane. 5 seconds to shoot. Durant sacked on Kane and he buries the three. Heck of a basketball game. It really does. As the season went on and we’ve got some road trips under our belt, everything just started to click. What a way to start the road trip. Special K. I think these Pistons feel like they can keep this thing going. You’re going to go into the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday with a load of confidence. Kaden now behind the back. Kane Parker Cunningham. Contact. That’s your ball game. And the Pistons are two and 0 to start this four game West Coast swing. Once we start to mix in a few wins here and there, it kind of got to the rhythm of like, okay, like so this is what winning looks like. Pistons need to get their thing together now and sustain it both ends of the floor to have any chance. Beasley. Oh, Malik Beasley with a huge three. Big one. Demar De Rozan rejected by Jaylen Dur. [Applause] Kate still working. Got a little space. Kate Cunningham. We are down to a five-point ball game and two minutes to play. Beasley in rhythm. Oh, Malik Beasley with another one. Beasley pump fake. Beasley. No way. Come on. Coach challenged us. This is one of the first games we didn’t watch film at halftime. He came in and was like, “The film don’t matter. We got to come out and compete.” Plenty of time to get what they want. Ivy right into the lane. This is looking for the quick hoop to cut it to one. Kate gets it into Hardway Jr. Over to Malik. Vasley. Vasley to Ivy for the pump fake. He got count. Oh, yes, he did. Yes. I said, “Oh my god. Oh my god. I can’t believe that just happened.” Things weren’t going so well for us, but we just stayed in it. What a shot, honey. What a shot. 114 113. Ly back to Fox. Logo three. Good. If it goes, it does not. And the Pistons come all the way back. What a win. Oh my. That is as good as it gets. Pistons could be arrested tonight for grand lararseny. Yes, sir. Come on. Just tell we were just jelling really well. Three excellent games. you start to see some of the teams you played against some of the matchups and you know how confident our team is when we play against other top teams and when you got that momentum that’s steamrolling from game to game you know we feel like could be anybody in this league 24 was a year of development for the Pistons and it ended on a high note tonight we toast to continued growth in 2025 live from Little Caesars Arena. Duran will jump it up with Bataz and the tap is slapped around. Comes to Kate. Pistons have it going first. Jaden in the lane. Stops. Knocks it down. Right there. You see the Pistons almost 21 points a game in transition over the last six games. Time. First round draft pick of the Pistons. Jaden Ivy from the corner for three and it’s through. That’s great ball movement and recognition. Jaden Ivy with the basketball. Jaden against Cole Anthony. Rocks the dribble. Rocks it again. Stopped. Comes for three and it’s through. Man, Jaden Ivy playing lights out. Pass up the floor. Nearly picked off, but Jaden Ivy sets up with a slam for Jaylen Dur. Last hoop was on a steal and stuff for Assar Thompson. Jaden Ivy to the basket. Leading scoop off the square for a score. What a shot. 22 for Jaden. fans are concerned. Here’s Kaden the long gun. It’s off the rim. Tapped outside. He’s He is not getting up either. He is in anguish on that floor. Jay Ivy Pistons are going to go check him out. Coaches heading to the floor. Now for the Pistons, uh, you got to go back to work. You got to refocus and, uh, find a way. One guy goes down, you don’t want to let that guy down. They care about each other and they care about Ji and what this means to him and the sacrifices that he’s made, you know what I mean, within his game and within himself. So, they banded together because they know that’s what he would have wanted him to do. Has a block from the side though. Fires in front three. Oh, a follow up by Jaylen Dur. Wow. you know, to to see him hurting like that is tough on us. You know what I’m saying? But he’s built for it. He’s going to he’s going to shake back. He’s going to work his tail off and he’s going to be better than ever when he gets back. But I mean, it’s it’s hard to see that for sure. It’s 4523 Portland. 17 straight for Chanty Bilips team. I didn’t see this coming. They’re going to find some energy somewhere. Minute 45 left in the third. Henderson lost it. Guess who found it? Ron Holland drives and dunks. Ron, don’t call me Ronald Holland. All of a sudden, the Pistons are playing much more aggressive on the defensive end to the basket. Duran stoing away, knocked it away. Tobias Decade. Hardway Jr. with an uptake. Now the shot. He hits it. Heck of a ball game. the Pistons with enough fight to fight off the Hortland Trailblazers. It’s huge, man. It’s huge. It’s huge. I think guys who’ve been here, who’ve been through, you know, the ups and the downs of our short career and now getting here being 500 is huge, man. It’s huge. And we just want to keep building on it. You know, we, like you said, we got a long season to go and we just going to keep going, keep pushing, keep growing, and keep building. Here’s Cunningham. goes inside and throws it down and then headbutts to Stansion. Bounce inside. Bad pass. Forced it. Mix turn it over. Cunningham shaking. Wheeling and gets in and throws it down. He’s got 15 points in five and a half minutes. Pushed off a bit. Hardway open three. No. Passes it. Beasley another three. It’s good. Malik Beasley. The Pistons and these extra passes that they’re willing to make. Guys turning down shots. unselfishness. All of that coming into play this amazing turnaround for the Pistons. Detroit basketball, man. Come on, man. We g I hate giving this away, but a couple nominees. As a couple nominees, but everybody was on his head the whole entire game and he came out the second half and stepped up. We challenged him while we were in the locker room and I’m going to give it to Sass. Let’s go. Come on now. Talk to me. Detroit fast because the Pistons revival it’s ahead of schedule here. Kade Cunningham and JB Bicker staff have led the efforts of the NBA’s. I think it’s fair to say maybe big surprise. I was definitely fair to say it’s upon us and it’s a little bit early. Last night was Detroit’s 10th win in their last 12 games. That’s the third best record in the NBA in that span only behind the league leading Thunder and the Cavaliers. So, Brian, how real are the Detroit Pistons? Golly, I know I’m a little sleepy on here. I imagine that once you’ve been there and once you know what the the the bottom feels like, like it just gives you more appreciation for this fun that you’re having right now. And by the way, we’re talking about all-star for you at this point. 24 and a half points a game, 9.4 assists, 6.6 rebounds. Do you feel like an all-star? Cuz you look like one. Opening is open. [Music] [Music] That’s what the people want to see. one, you’re an allstar to me playing fabulous. If I had to vote, I would definitely vote you in. What is your definition of allar player? I imagine there’s top 24 players in the NBA. That’s how I see it. Ken Smith. Oh, from the Detroit Pistons, Kade Cunningham. Yes, indeed. Yes, first timer here, Cade Cunningham, the 23y old 25 points a game is number 14. Nine assists per night is number three in the league. Thank you. Two minutes left in regulation. [Applause] K buries them both. Two minutes. Still perfect at the free throw line. 13 for 13. Straight away Jr. inbounds to Kade. without wasting any time. K to the basket. Got it. We’re tied with 26.5 seconds left. Final seconds of regulation. We’re even at 130. Trey Young adept to drawing fouls, but that shot clock is winding down on him. He’ll spin and shoot and score. Wow. With 1.6 to play, Trey Young has been a monster. and time will run out. Again, we were just sloppy defensively. You know, this is all part of our process and trying to get to where we want to go. Uh is we have to have these types of things happen, right? We have to go through these experiences so that we can learn from them. Uh and figure out, you know, what our next move is the next time we face these types of situations. Bam. 5 seconds left in regulation. Gate has 37. Cleveland has no timeout, so be aware. They’ll get it out of bounds and push it up the floor, so you better match up and know where everyone is. Kade now has 20 points in the fourth quarter. Make it 21. 5 seconds left. Nang, no foul. Garland. Garland from midcourt. Wow. What are you going to do about that? Is there anything you feel like you can learn from anything like this? Yeah, there’s a lot. I mean, just 5 seconds, somebody come beat you, you know? So, being locked in, making sure we bounce back, not letting things snowball on us is is important. Make sure we get back to playing, you know, our brand of basketball. First thing before we get started, just want to let everybody know that trade the trade call um got done last night around 7:30. So the trade is executed. How about Tan Langon in the front office bringing in Dennis Shruder’s 12th NBA season. Welcome to Detroit. It’s 70 to 41. Who’ have thunk it? Yeah, that time down the lane tried to jam it. Still blocked it. Best in the league. Defending at the rim. You know what? The Pistons right now are playing on emotion and energy. Whirls around the Victor. Lobs it to JD for a jam. Doubles to Beasley. Malik for three and it’s through. These guys were so ready to play. Yes, they were. And their game plan was spectacular. J Bicker staff and the Pistons got the 76ers. The Pistons win the ball game big time. Let’s use that bomb. That we come back to do got it. One more time. One more time. One more time. One more time. [Applause] Hey man, you got all three. The team chemistry they have, everybody came for each other and that’s what you need. Keep doing what you doing. Let’s go. We on our way. Keep being the star that you are, bro. We’re on our way to San Francisco for Allstar weekend. It’s such a great feeling like knowing that I’ve got that recognition. It’s something that I’ve I’ve told myself a thousand times. Like, you know, I always felt like I was an all-star. I felt like I was on that level of NBA players. You know, the weekend’s been great. Got to hang with the family. I enjoy allstar weekend. So, it’s been a great experience. And, you know, I plan on coming back many times. A lot of fun. It’s exciting for everybody, but you know, it’s still my work to do. We all want to bring Detroit basketball back. We wanted to give our fans something that they could be proud of more than anything. I don’t take that lightly at all. I think it’s a a responsibility and you know, I’m just trying to play hard and put my best foot forward every time. When you come out of all break, is it more continuation of what you’ve done or do you take a hard reset and and like clean? We’ve talked about this since the beginning of the year. We’re not a finished product. Uh so this gives us a great opportunity um you know with these games coming up to really focus on our development uh and how we improve individually and as a team. Kade keeps the basketball to Jaylen Dur. What a jam. This will be their 30th win folks and they’ve got 26 games more to go after this. This have won five in a row and they are on their way to Atlanta for a Sunday night game against the Hawks. Then the shooter drives puts it up off the high glass and hits it. Count Davey and a foul. What I told what I said earlier, don’t touch me. I’m sizzling. away. Let’s go. Come February, come March, you’ll be able to turn on the TV and you’ll be like, “Ah, that’s Detroit Pistons basketball.” What do the kids say? W’s in the chat or whatever. Detroit. They try to hold the young brother down, but they can’t do it. They try to hold it down, but they can’t do it. Defensive form. Cunningham with the behind the back and alive and a duck. Holy mackerel. The crowd stands a standing O. for these Pistons to win their seventh straight basketball game. I know how much this team means to uh this city. And you know, when our guys are playing at the level that they’re playing at, they’re not doing it for themselves. Coach, coach Big Stuff, his staff, I mean, I think he’s coach of the year. The things that he’s done, how prepared we’ve been, I’m not surprised that we won so many games. We feel more prepared than other teams. Together all the time. All the time. Together. All the time together. Together. All the time. All right. Together with three. One, two, three. [Music] The joint was jumping on Monday as the Pistons extended their winning streak to seven. The atmosphere electric. Tonight, they’ll need that energy again as the defending champs invade downtown Detroit. K. Crosses over topside. Tobias. He’ll fire and fill it. A triple for Tobias. And the Pistons go up three zip. Pistons take it away. Jaylen Thur ahead of the pack for a stop. Richard misses. Holland does not. Ron Holland to the basket for a scoop and score. And the Pistons have been so much quicker than the Celtics so far. They have a 15-point lead. So they’re dominating right now. Kate finds Hardway Jr. for three and that is through. Perfect on the triple try as Tim Hardaway Jr. in the corner. A line drive three and that’s through. Grab by Tada. They don’t call it Beasley for three. Malik Beasley drains it from downtown. Sar Thompson against Tada. Crosses him over. Scoops it inside for Stew. and he draws a foul. What a play by Assar Thompson. You know, we beat uh a couple good teams. We ended up beating the Celtics and they had most their players. So, that made us realize, you know, we could really beat anybody. JB Bickerstaff had his team prepared. Sure did. And then some. But Pistons have held the Celtics under 100. They’re going to get a standing ovation here. The only thing that we’re focusing on is every single night, uh, trying to be the best versions of ourselves. And tonight, I think we’re pretty close. An eightgame winning streak, folks, for the first time since ‘ 08. And in 08, I mean, I don’t know. I was I was a kid, so I was doing kid things. That’s eight mother. We out rebound people. We take care of the basketball. We’re going to win games. You guys were physical with them, keeping them off the glass, right? You guys did a great job there. But that’s what it comes down to. Take care of the ball, win a rebound battle, and we’ll win the game. Great job, fellas. I know, man. I got to give this to the Warrior, man. My doggies. [Applause] This is on three. One, two, three. [Applause] All the time. All the time. Hold on. Everybody need to say a little more on that. Come on. Together. All the time. All the time. Together. Together. Remix. Together on three. 1 2 3. [Music] You know, for his efforts in guiding the Pistons to that Sterling record in February. JB Vicker Staff named the NBA Eastern Conference Coach of the Month. I mean, I don’t see it as an individual award. This isn’t just about one person, you know, at any point in time. Everything we do is about the collective and if the collective doesn’t do the job, individuals don’t get recognized. Whole lot of guys who deserve it. One guy in particular pushes you, pushes me, Leon, to be great. It’s only right to go to Johnny. [Applause] Go to the sh Let me say this. I said that JJ Reic for the Los Angeles Lakers is a coach of the year candidate. I did not say he’s coach of the year. JB Vickstaff is the coach of the year. How the the fans and everyone’s been coming to the games even before we run out onto the court to warm up. LCA is 3/4 of the way packed. So, we got great fans. It’s a great city to play basketball in. We’ve had some great games, some great atmospheres like throughout the whole season. to the lane for an open shot from the corner. Knocked it down. Simone has 23. This would be the Pistons second largest road win ever. 46 points. 46 points. That’s a bunch. But the story tonight, it’s not the three-time champs, the Miami Heat. It’s about the Detroit Pistons, the pugnacious, punchy Pistons who are pummeling their way towards a playoff birth in the Eastern Conference. It really has. Kate Cunningham and the Pistons have come a long way since they were 14 and 68, finishing last in the East a year ago. Bam fights through the screen. Cunningham gets the ball against Bam. Pulls up for the win. Got it. Detroit basketball with the lead with 6 to go. And they storm into Dade County and get the buzzer beating win. And just just to be clear, you did call it, right? Bank. I might have whispered it. Yo, you already know who the belt going to. You’re not holding high enough. Everybody good, man. Together all the time. All the time. Together. Together on three. Together for free. Together on B. Talk to us. Let’s go two together. Keith Cunningham took hoops by storm last night. I I think it’s fair to say that we should get a little bit more Detroit basketball game. What do you think? Detroit, what up dog? I just got to say Detroit basketball, get ready for the mother playoffs cuz that’s where we headed, boy. Let’s go. To join that group this year, so should be interesting. Marcus Sasser deposits another three calmly. He has 27. Career high. Yeah, you going crazy, boy. You went crazy. Hardway Jr. from the corner out of the timeout. Rains it from distance. Hard fought game and a great victory for the Pistons here. 133 to 122 here in downtown Detroit. That was fun. Hell yeah. Don’t nobody believe but us. But that was a inspirational win. Pisses will not shoot it. They’ll let the shot clock run out. [Applause] They are going to clinch a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Pistons win in Toronto 117 to 105. Pistons heading to the playoffs for the first time since 2019. Well, folks, there’s no play in for these guys. There’s playoffs. It don’t matter how we got there. We here. We here. It don’t matter how we got here. Mim Hardway got what y’all want, man. That’s all that matters, bro. That’s all that matters. Now, let’s go out there and do some with it. Yeah. There we go. Be greedy, fellas. Now we get real. Now we get real. Uh, real quick, listen to me. So, what I want you to do is I want you to take a moment and recognize what you guys have done. You guys have overcome a lot to put yourself in this position. Okay? So, this is an opportunity to be grateful for it, to be grateful for each other, right? The teammates that you guys have, way that you’ve always been and done it together and celebrated one another. Okay, take tonight to do it. Tomorrow, we go back to work cuz we’re still fighting for more. Come on, man. All right, let’s go. I think everybody’s mindset is still like we’re happy, but everybody’s mindset is like we haven’t done nothing yet. Like I said, it’s a milestone. We we’ve reached the playoffs, you know, the ups and downs through the last couple years. This is this is a huge milestone for us. I mean, I think whoever we play in the playoffs is going to be feisty or whatever. Um, I feel like I mean, that’s just how we play. We bring that Detroit bad boys, that Detroit grit to any single every single game that we play. Um, and if New York is the team that we end up playing, we’re going to bring it every single night. So, JB, if this turns out to be the playoff matchup, you guys and the Knicks, it looks like it will be very competitive feisty. Would that be something you think your guys would relish? Yeah, we got no problem with the fight. So, the Knicks will face off against the upand cominging Pistons in the first round. Detroit won the season series three games to one, but the Knicks have homec court advantage in the playoff experience with Jaylen Brunson putting up historic postseason numbers a year ago. You know, we all feel great about the the year that we’ve had. Um, but we feel great about what’s to come. I think, you know, that’s that’s the only thing that’s on everybody’s mind is how we’re going to beat the New York Knicks and getting that done. How close are they to your Knicks? Close enough. close enough to make me uncomfortable, to make me entertain the possibility that the Knicks are gone in the first round. Playing in New York in the guard in the playoffs, as we spoke about, is tough. This is a young team, Detroit. I love what they done during the regular season, but I think it’s going to come down to a homec court advantage. Saturday night in New York City, as the NBA playoffs are underway, the Pistons and the Knicks [Applause] Cunningham on Anobi. Stops, pulls up, short shot is good, and a foul. Terrific quarter for the Pistons. Their first playoff game in six years. They’ve got an eight-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. I thought for the majority of the game, we we did a really good job of staying composed out there. You know, you can’t get too high, you can’t get too low. Each team will make an adjustment. Back out to Payne. Cameron Payne a three. Puts it in. Brunson the crossover. Brunson the drive. Flips it up. It’s good. Towns on the steel ahead to Hart. Hart inside. Brunson banks it home. The Garden has erupted and the Knicks will take game one with 40 points in the fourth quarter. It’s keeping our head high. Like it’s one game. It’s a series. You know, this is part of playoff basketball. It’s how you really respond. We’ll be ready ready to go for game two. The only thing that matters is what you do and how you do it together. We’re going to go out and we’re gonna fight like hell. I promise you that. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] We’re underway in game two at Madison Square Garden. Cunningham floats it to the rim. The number one alleyoop combo in the NBA. Works again. Blocked by Towns, but somehow it’s guided through by Reed. Rejected by Duran to Cunningham. That’s saucy. Kate Cunningham. Rasled dazzle jam. Shruder’s jumper. Kaboom. Detroit holds off New York and they get the equalizer. The Pistons end the longest losing streak in NBA playoff history. You know, a battle all the way to the closing buzzer. So, you know, just us staying together, making sure we take care all the details, uh, and then give our effort the whole game. I mean, it was a great win for us tonight. I’m excited to get back to Detroit, hear our fans, and you know, try to take care of business at home. Let’s keep going. That’s it. We got three more to go get. Let’s go. All the time all the time. SC. 1 2 3. Let’s go. And good evening everyone from Detroit for a highly anticipated game three with a sellout crowd on hand. I’m back here. games. Yeah. What do you think that’s going to be like popping up? If I’m being honest with you, I don’t know. Just that energy and excitement. That’s what I’m imagining in the LCA. And uh I don’t expect nothing less. More than anything, I’m interested to see what it’s going to be like. You know, I’ve never seen a playoff series in Detroit. I think Detroit been waiting on this for some some time now. Now it’s finally here. I know the city’s going to show out for this one. If you had to describe what the fam’s job is that night, what what is it? To be loud. Really loud. Make it hard on New York. Go Pistons. Let’s beat the Knicks, baby. For this team to go where they were last year to where we’re at this year, man, for triple the wins, it’s just incredible. It’s just such a great thing to be part of. We’re so jacked for this game, man. Can’t wait. It’s an awesome feeling. And uh we’re back, baby. Detroit’s back. We’re back and we got And we are ready to go in game three. Christians with it. Firing from the sideline. It’s Tim Hardaway Jr. Great to see him knock that down. Cunningham his way for the basket right there. Puts it every time. There’s a long shot. Another three. But that’s a mistake. You can’t leave Tim Hardway Jr. It’s Cunningham for three. What a start from three for the Pistons. Four of five from distance to tie this ball game up. Kevin Cunningham trying to go. Got it. See how high he had to throw it over Mitchell Robinson. What a play there by Kate Cunningham. What a pass by person. Nice defense by the Pistons. Up the wing it goes. Shooter fakes. Step back three. Cunningham who play a season. Oh, one of the he goes behind his back and he gets it out the hardway for a three. What a move split there by Kate Cunningham. The Pistons have their first lead tonight in game three. Six and a half to go in the half. Inside. No rebound grabbed by Shruder. It’s off to Cunningham. Threeon two. Hardway three. It was loud. It’s loud. The fans give us life. You know, we got to get one for them. A lot of energy in there, you know. It was It’s amazing to have play basketball back in Detroit. You can tell everybody’s been waiting on it. It was awesome. It was great. Um, every week, try to give him something to cheer for. Um, but for the most part, we got to do a better job eliminating the easy ones. And he gets it to Brunson. The defender falls, the buzzer sounds, the Knicks have won it and go up two games to one. It’s frustrating. We going, we didn’t want to go drop that game. I think a little bit there was a little bit of excitement, you know, coming back home and playing, but uh, we got to come back on Sunday and be ready. down 3-1. So Detroit with a chance to win it here with 11.1 seconds left. They are out of timeouts. If the Knicks foul, that will put the Pistons on the line. Cunningham driving. Pull up jumper. No good. Harris battling. Loose ball on the floor. Picked up. Hardway. Two seconds left. Puts up the shot. No. And the game is over. JBstaff is on the floor. rate. He thought there should have been a foul called on the hardway shot, but the Knicks have won it 9493 and take a 3-1 series lead. Kade got his shot. He got to his spot and he got to his shot and you know and had the shot that he liked and that we all like and I trust Kade to take that shot um you know 100 times in a row and you know again you go back and look at the film you know the guy leaves his feet there’s contact on Tim Hardway’s jump shot. Um, you know, I don’t know any other way around it. There’s contact on his jump shot. The guy leaves his feet. He’s at Timmy’s mercy. Um, and I repeat, there’s contact on his jump shot. We’ve been in dog fights every single night. Every game presented a different challenge. Our guys have embraced that challenge all year long. Uh, and it’s not going to change tonight. We’ve overcome a ton of odds, right? So, why not one more time? The Pistons building a lot of experience. Does it translate tonight in a pressure situation on the road at the Garden? Bridges looking to go coast to coast. Rejected Tobias Harris comes. Extra Thompson hammer jam denied by Duran. Blocked by Thompson. Pistons taking over. Confusion here by the Knicks. Cunningham fate inside. Way up is good. Thompson finishes. It’s off. Knocked up in the air. Battle knocked outside. Nobody there for New York. And Detroit basketball stays alive. Your heart was amazing tonight, fellas. Okay, we got one more to go get and together on three. 1 2 3 together. I think it’s going to be electric in the Motor City. Uh, no doubt about it. I think they’ll be hyped, ready to go, pushing the Brit Knicks to the brink elimination. They like their chances on the road as well. I think they show up for this game six. Can Detroit force a game seven? Can the Knicks wrap up this first round series like they did a year ago? Game six in Philadelphia to take the series four games to two. to Brunson. Defended by Thompson. 15 seconds left. Brunson takes a peek at the clock. Thompson digging in defensively. 8 seconds. Brunson stops on a dime. Launches. Oh yeah. Jaylen Brunson buries it. Knicks lead by three. The Brunson burner ignited. Cunningham to toss it in. [Applause] Movement. Beasley. Harris falls down. Hardway back for Cunningham. Swing it out of bounds. Pistons turn it over. Point four on the clock. Detroit didn’t get a shot off. The Knicks take care of business. They wrap up the series in Detroit and move on to the second round. Tough series, major experience for the Pistons to lean on in the future, but it’s the New York Knicks. In the immediate aftermath, what emotions are you feeling and what will stick with you from this series? Uh, the immediate one is disappointment. Um, we felt good about this series. So, you know, to not pull it out hurts. Uh, that feeling has stick with us throughout the summer and our workouts and conversations and everything. We’ll be back and better. Hell of a season for us. I don’t know another way to put it. Um, surprising, gratifying. I think what we set out to do from an environmental and a cultural standpoint um we were able to do competing every night and doing it together but also every day come in the facility and and and work with a joy. Talk about the impact and the leadership of JB Bigger staff going on this ride into the postseason. Man, he’s been he’s been amazing. The way that he inspired us every day, the way that he pushed us, I mean, I’ve never been a part of anything like that. Thought we did so many things well and gave ourselves an opportunity. Um, but it’s also a lot of pride. I could not be more proud of this group of guys. Um, you know, what they overcame all year long, the way they worked, the way how resilient they were, how unselfish they were, how willing they were to sacrifice, you know, for the guy next to them. Um, you know, they gave me the ability to coach him with no push back. You know, they gave me a renewed sense of purpose in this profession. When Tom and I met, I could feel his passion. I can feel the desire to make this team great. They see their hard work delivers. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what anybody says is so impressive. I don’t get inspired by a lot. I’m really inspired by them. They have excited the city. Their hard work has just been tremendous. You know, every excuse in the book was there for them and they didn’t take it. And so, I’m just really, really proud of that. Hey, I’m so proud of you guys after 14 wins last year. Like, let’s just keep it going. We are set up for success for the next decade. and thank you for this year bringing back excitement and everything that y’all did. Uh Cape Cunningham, I love you. Jaylen Duran, I love you. Assar Thompson, I love you. We overachieved 14 wins to what? 44. You brought the life back to the city. Keep it going next year. Malik Beasley, Tobias Harris, Isaiah Stewart. Keep grinding. Do work. This is This is going to be You’re going to last a long time, baby. Fellas, y’all showed out this year. Y’all defied expectations. Ron Holland, love you. Thank you for everything you’ve done for this city. I want to finish this year saying that this was the closest team that I’ve been on in my career. I truly believe that if I could say that we will have a good position to be in for our overall trajectory of growth for this organization. We got a lot of time all the time together, man. Let’s go on three. 1 2 3 together. [Music] Let’s go, man. Come on. Listen to that bad boy. [Music] Oh, I’m miked up. Miked up. In three, two, you get me. I get you. some beaver nuggets. I’m trying to see is a real beaver saying beaver nugget. Trying to see what’s going on.

Should've kept Tim
Damn I already miss Malik
Wonder what a Sasser extension would look like? Some teams would say you could draft a guy to do what he does but…could they? Remember when sasser dropped 40 on summer league to show he's different? But it's a real question, whats he worth?
I hope we keep getting Better this year. Proud of the guys last year.
Remember when the pistons got 3 2nd round picks and Dennis Schroeder for nothing? Lol genius
