New Orleans #Saints’ YOUNG DEFENDERS Stand Out In First Win Of The Season Against The Giants #nfl

Let’s walk to the card. I’ll tell you everything you need to know about the New Orleans Saints first win of the season. And it really all was on the back of the Saints defense and in particular the Saints young defensive players. This is a New Orleans Saints team that, as we’ve said over and over again, probably isn’t going to win a ton of games this year, but is a team that’s looking to figure out what its identity is moving forward, where its building blocks are, all of those other pieces. And this New Orleans Saints defense with its young players proved that they can be a part of the building blocks for the Saints defense for their future. Now, of course, big shout out with huge plays like Spencer Rattler finding Rashid Shahed for an 87yd touchdown reception down the field. Good running again by Kendre Miller. The return to Taesm Hill and Foster Marorrow. All that absolutely deserves praise as well. However, for me, it’s those young guys on defense that stood out the most. You get the fumble recovery by a veteran in Cam Jordan. You get a fumble forced by a veteran in Deario Davis, but then that fumble is recovered by rookie safety Jonas Sanker, who’s now got two takeaways in the last two games. Then you have a punch out by Brian Brezie, a thing of beauty, recovered and returned for an 86 yard touchdown by his draftmate, third-year safety Jordan Howden for a touchdown. And then you add on top of that two interceptions by secondyear a corner Kool-Aid McKenry, his first two of his career, and these young players are showing that they can be building blocks for this team’s future. Then you look at one other guy who I would consider a young vet in his sixth year, Terrell Burgess, who covered 30 yards. 30 yards on a deep ball from Jackson Dart on a flea flicker to Darius Sllayton to knock that ball down and force a punt on a third and six situation. And yeah, did Jackson Dart underthrow it? Sure. But have we seen the New Orleans Saints defense be this opportunistic towards the end of last year? No, we didn’t see them taking advantage of the opportunities that were given to them. This is a Saints defense that over the course of the past couple of weeks has found opportunities and in particular in this game up against the Giants, which is a major momentum builder. They took advantage of the opportunities that were in front of them. So, if you’re looking for more bright spots out of this victory, the young defensive players on top of the other good things that happen were the big standouts for

  1. Defense won this game. Rattler is still consistently slightly off target. Just inaccurate enough for the pass catchers to not be able to catch the ball. It look’s really close and some will say the receiver still should have caught it which is true on some but they should consistently have to make hard catches. They should still think about going to Tyler Shough.

  2. Well defense played okay against the other worse team in the NFL. They play like they have the last 3 years. Offense? Against the other worse team in the NFL? Thought Moore cam in as the offensive guru?

  3. Mckinstry's coverage skills are not well developed. Besides the interceptions, he's been steps behind receivers in one on one coverage. Check the tape.

  4. Kool-Aid definitely showed up and showed out, not just him. Sanker balled out, and many others. I'm so excited to watch them develop grow and dominate

  5. Kool-aid made a BONEHEADED play!!! It was 4th down. Catches ball inside our 10. Knock it DOWN and we don’t lose 32 yards of field position. We could have at least pinned them in their own end of field instead of give them ball back at 40 when game was not sealed.
That’s putting team first and game awareness.

    Rare these days.
