14 STRIKEOUTS! Tarik Skubal sets new career high in DOMINANT Postseason showing 😀

That lineup will take their swings against TK Scubble. As we know, the Ace, one of the top pitchers in the American League, comes with that fast ball change up. He’s got two other pitches, but you’re going to see a really good starter here. You’re going to see a guy that comes at you. The Guardians team better be ready cuz they got to get on him early and often. Here’s Anel Martinez, the center fielder, switch hitter who takes ball one inside. He hit 224 in the regular season with 11 home runs. [Applause] Get that feel. A one:00 game. It’s a little bit of a different feeling. You got people still kind of trickling in here. The excitement’s growing a little bit more as each pitch comes through. You love day baseball in the postseason, especially on a day like today. fouled back in our direction. And of course, they didn’t know here in Cleveland until the weekend that they’d be hosting. So, people buying tickets and the park is filling up. [Applause] There’s a change up for a strike. Again, you’re sitting 98 and then a 91 mph change up comes through with a little bit of cut. Now, that’s absolutely nasty pitch. [Applause] and then a 100 and he struck him out with a high fast ball. He’s living up in his own right there on righties and he’s getting those swings. Every other pitch will be really effective. 100 m an hour up and in on the hands. [Music] Not unusual, as you saw in the graphic, for him to strike out a hitter with the fast ball. Jose Ramirez after the first one. Switch hitter. Chopped one foul. [Applause] Now 33 years old, one of the great players in franchise history. 30 home runs, 85 knocked in. And as we mentioned a moment ago, the careerhigh 44 stolen bases. [Applause] Back door breaking ball was outside. Little bit of gamesmanship there, too. Couple off speed pitches. Two-1 count. You think he comes with that fast ball here. See how far you can hit it. [Applause] Swinging a miss. Back to the 100 mph fast ball. [Music] The win total down this year for Scooble. 18 victories last year when he won the Sai Young award. 13 this season, but the ERA was better this year. He thought he had strike three, as did Dylan Dingler, the catcher. an Ohio native who grew up a Cleveland Indians fan and continued to follow them as many of his relatives have now that they’re the Guardians. Swing and a miss on the change up. That was vintage TKO in the first inning. Oh, here it comes Todd Frasier. Wow. Foul of Brian Roio. Oh man, give me another two feet. I would have had it. Yeah, we had a piece of plexiglass right above us. So that would have been right in the booth. You went after it much more courageously than I. But you also played for six major league teams. I’ve caught a couple of them too before. So up here in the booth, not in this stadium, but in the booth. I’ve caught a couple. So Rochio swings and misses for strike three. Scooble makes quick work of him. Three strikeouts for the lefty. One out in the third. He’s pitching with a one- nothing lead. They were sailing along about as comfortably as you could be through 93 games. Had that 15 1/2 game division lead over the Guardians. Then lost 40 of their last 68. Seven and 17 in September. Did manage to clinch over the weekend in Boston. He throws strike one to Tubable to Noel. We asked AJ Hint before the game, do you talk to your team at all about the way the season end? He said, “Nope. If you saw the party, you know, it didn’t really matter whether we won the division or we were the wild card. We’re just happy to be in and we start a new.” When you got a guy like Scooble throwing like this, you have to get your foot down early and you got to see the ball. He is throwing absolute gas and then there you go. 90 mph change up a 10 mph difference. This is why he’s one of the best. And it’s so hard to hit against him from a left-handed standpoint, too. It’s a flip of a coin. Decide what pitch you want to swing at and you better get it. And if you do, you can’t miss it. Facing John Kenty. Noel playing first base today. And he just did get a piece of that one at 100 miles per hour. Noel played in 69 games in the regular season. Hit just 162. Did hit six home runs. Big Christmas has some power. That is one of the great nicknames in baseball. They got Big Christmas, Big Dumpler. There’s a couple really, really good ones. [Applause] One- nothing Detroit. We’re in the home half of the third in Cleveland. Breaking ball swung on and missed. Four strikeouts through eight hitters for Scooble. Now Jonathan Rodriguez. [Applause] Talk about being ready for a fast ball and way out in front on 88. That wasn’t anywhere near the plate. Rodriguez, their cleanup hitter, part because of the absence of David Fry. Oh boy. Belt high strike. Crowd didn’t like it. 0 and two. Rodriguez grounded out his first time up. Yeah, you see the Guardians aren’t getting that call to have that one. A little frustrating. The strike zone’s been a little bit all over the place, but for both pitchers. [Applause] And then a nasty change up for strike three. Rodriguez dispatched on three pitches for the first down of this fourth inning. And when you see someone coming in swinging out of their shoes just like this, you’re going to sprinkle in that change up. Oh, that was a really good pitch. Tough to lay off. Next thing you know, it looks good. Falls right off the table. Two men on and one out. Then and Ben Zardo took a fast ball for a strike. He singled to right in the second inning, one of their two hits. It was wiped out on a double play ball that followed off the bat of Arius who’s on deck. [Applause] Five straight strikes since the walk to Ramirez. Now he’s at first. Martinez at second. Manardo in an 0 and2 hole. Oh, not 100 for strike three. So the walk to Ramirez and six straight strikes since. Again, just when you think he doesn’t have enough in the tag, he comes in with 100 miles an hour on the top corner and you’re a left-handed hitter. Oh my. Nothing you can do with that pitch. Your timing has to be perfect. Just a little bit further than out. Game one of this wild card series tied at one a piece. Shawn Mcdana. Todd Frasier. Taylor McGregor. John Keny Noel leading off against TK Scubble. [Applause] Yeah, this is a fast ball hitting guy right here. So you might see a plethora of off speed, but I wouldn’t throw him anything in the zone for a fast ball like that. [Applause] [Music] Noel struck out swinging in the third. [Applause] Scoville’s given up three hits. He’s walked two, struck out six, and now seven. We referenced it earlier one week ago, the last start of the regular season for school with Fry squaring to bunt. A 99 mph pitch hit him right in the face. Fry suffered multiple facial fractures. You saw how upset Scoo was. Clearly no intent there. Swing and a miss by Austin Hedges. And we learned after the game that Scooel went along with Steven Vote, the Cleveland manager, to the hospital right after the game to visit Fry. Offer an apology, which wasn’t really necessary. Obviously, it wasn’t intentional, but that’s the kind of guy he is. Steven Vote said he had heard from people near their clubhouse that he was trying to get to the hospital. Vote said, “I’m going. I’ll drive him over there.” They had a nice conversation on the way. A lot of mutual respect as he said for these two teams and among those two men. Swing and a miss. Hedges gone on strikes. Eight Ks for Scooble and heading to the bottom of the sixth inning. Guardians fans hoping their team can take the lead for the first time today. Detroit went up very quickly with an honor run in the top of the first. The Guardians tied it in the fourth. Two infield singles and a walk in between. Anel Martinez takes strike one from TK Scubble. It’s the third batter now trying to push pun here. Maybe they’re seeing something in the video before the game. fouled over the dugout on the first base side. Martinez struck out in the first. He had the first of those infield singles. Had a little slow chopper toward the second baseman. Gabber Torres had no chance to throw him out. Jos Ramirez walked. Then after School struck out Jonathan Rodriguez and Kyle Manardo in six pitches. Arius hit a chopper over the mound. Scooble couldn’t play it cleanly. Threw to the plate not in time to get Martinez who scored in second. Pulled down the left field line but hooking and it’s fouled. 70 pitches in here. It’s still throwing 99 miles an hour. When both managers indicated they would ride these starting pitchers and no reason to even think about the bullpen right now, you wouldn’t think. [Applause] [Music] AJ Hinch will have Casey Mai on the mound tomorrow for game two. It’ll be Tanner Bby following Gavin Williams to the Hill for Cleveland. Another pop foul out of play over by the dugout. [Music] [Applause] Got another pitch to hit right there. See if he comes with something slower. Yep. He’s so crafty. A left-handed specialist throwing o over 100 miles an hour. He’s got a change up that he can throw anytime he wants to. Fun to watch. Trying to become the first pitcher to win back-to-back Sai Young since Jacob Deg Grom. First to do in the American League since Pedro Martinez. back in 99 and 2000. Ball up and away. Four foul balls in this at bat for Anhill Martinez. Jose Ramirez on deck. Fouled off his foot. Still just 73 pitches for Scooble and he’s well rested. Mentioned earlier he hasn’t pitched in a week. Took the extra two days off. No bullpen either. So geared up for game one. Oh, [Applause] swing and a miss. Won it unanimously last year. Jonathan Rodriguez took a ball outside. He’s grounded to short and struck out [Applause] on the corner. One ball and one strike. Mixing it up a lot more this past inning here. You got your best hitters coming up. Scoobs retired six in a row. Rodriguez lost his helmet. [Applause] [Applause] Melon’s in the dirt. I think if I was working one of these office buildings in downtown Cleveland, getting out of school, I would walk over here, enjoy this beautiful day, and watch the end of this game one. There are still some empty seats. Swing and a miss in another one, two, three inning. Baseball’s postseason is underway with a pitcher duel. And here’s Kyle Manzardo. Still TK Scoo on the mound. 10 strikeouts through six innings. He’s retired the last seven Guardians. And he throws strike one to Manzardo who has one of the three hits. The only one that left the infield. Single to right field back in the second. [Applause] H just getting loose at 100 milesPH. Here it is. This is absolutely incredible. He’s putting on a clinic right now. The face Manardo, Gabriel, Arius, and Brian Rochio. Slicing foul out of play. [Music] [Applause] That one was 101. I believe that’s the liveliest I’ve noticed. Yes, for sure. And again, you’ll look at your home screen and say, “Man, that was the pitch hit.” Guys, it’s 101 milesPH. You have to be so perfect and on time. He’s up to 87 pitches. Shack swing. Strike three. 100 miles per hour. It was deemed to be a swing. Well, Sean, coming up on ABC momentarily, Matthew Boyd will get the ball for the Cubbies in game one against the Padres’s. Now, Matthew Boyd, a former Detroit Tiger and Cleveland Guardian, and he was teammates with Scooble. Scubble thanks Boyd for teaching him how to throw his change up. After the 23 season, he was searching and went to Boyd asking him how he threw his change up. He had tried to throw a traditional one for years but could never figure it out because he doesn’t naturally pronate his wrist. But Boyd had figured out a grip that instead of uses the pronationize the seams to get the movement and he taught it to scubal and I would say it’s worked out pretty well. Sean. Mhm. Without question. He’s had some other pretty good pitches too. Swing and a miss by Arius. [Applause] Wow. Another one at 100 miles per hour. Three straight strikeouts. He’s fanned four of the last five. He’s put down the last nine Guardian hitters. Yeah. And he’s just getting going. He might have over 90 pitches, but he does not care. He’s going to stay in this game as long as they can. And here how it Oh my. Right into your screen right there. That’s a rising fast ball. Brian Rochio took a ball outside. You have to find a way, especially with two strikes, to shorten up your swing and widen your base, put the ball in play, and he gets that strike right there up. Brochio struck out, tried to reach on a bunt single after they had scored their run in the fourth. Scooble came off the mound and retired him. Fielding with his glove and flipping it out of his glove to first. Up to 95 pitches. Trick’s been over 100 pitches only three times this year. His high is 105. That’s 101. and he strikes out the side in the seventh inning. He’s one shy of Joe Coleman’s record. Most strikeouts in a postseason game for Detroit. Joe had 14 against the athletics 1972 in the ALCS. The 13 strikeouts matches school’s careerhigh. Did it twice in this regular season. Had done it three times prior to today. I mean, when you’re getting swing and miss on that ball that far off, it’s seen it so many times today, you can throw any pitch you want right now. And he did. Noel just completely overmatched. Five strikeouts in a row. Eight of the last nine. [Music] Again, this is a change up right here. That looks like a fast ball coming. It never started in the zone. You got to find a way to get into two strike mode. There’s such a hard pitch to hit. Two of the three hits infield hits. Back to the M off the glove of Scooble who throws to first to get Quan to second goes the pinch runner Pety Halpin. And that’s going to be it for Scooble. Ace performance. This guy’s been absolutely incredible all year. and a season high 107 pitches. He departs with a two to one lead.

Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal lights up the mound with 14 strikeouts and just one earned run across 7 2/3 innings in his Game 1 start during the AL Wild Card.

  1. as a tigers fan I will be infuriated if they can’t extend Him i know they can they have the money . We have no ace if he leaves I will be very sad πŸ˜” and I will cry.

  2. Lest we forget, this man is a left handed starter hitting triple digits with command and elite secondaries. Lefties rarely touch that kind of velo and when they do they're almost exclusively relievers. Unicorn.
