Alex Rodriguez, Matt Vascers, Nick, for Kevin Birkhart. What did we just watch? We just watched a kid 22 years old make the start of his life and shut down one of the biggest hitting lineups in the sport. Treyus Savage was unbelievable in this game. He was unbelievable. He threw a no hitter through five and a third, 11ks, eight on that change split. Uh in incredible speed on that on that change up, which actually turned over a little bit and he was even tougher against lefties, but again, only 78 pitches. fantastic work for him. I will say what make him tougher is coming all over the top with a great arm speed and it’s hard to read because the the he his spleen is kind of fade away from lefties and and and and as a leftended batter that is hard to pick up. Plus, he can mix the fast ball with a change and get you thinking more than usual. That’s what make him very tough. Well, let’s give credit where credit’s due. Matt, you’re the one that told us to look out for him. No, it was unbelievable job by by him and and the arm angle and the I’m glad I’m not playing anymore. What is it? A split change is something we had one or the other. Now it’s a split change. We’re talking it reminds us of Chris Young a little bit from back from that arm angle and he and he’s got some velocity too. So as a hitter, you’re saying get the ball up, get the ball up. But then if he throws the fast ball, it’s tough to catch up to. So what a job by him. And Matt, 11 of his 23 starts, not in triple A, not in double A, in a ball. Amazing. He he started the year in Deneden. It goes to show you if you can pitch, you can pitch. I don’t care where you are. And he wasn’t throwing 97, though. You kind of lose sight of the fact that the Blue Jays scored 23 runs in the first two games of the series. Most ever in the first two postseason games for a team uh in a postseason run. But we got to get back to Treya Savage because our our resident starter Dantrell Willis was just salivating and smiling the entire time watching this big young fella go. Drain, what did you see today? You know what? This young man did an outstanding job seizing the moment. I felt like the mound presence was there, the confidence was there, the pitch mix was absolutely outstanding. and he knew how to play off Kevin Gosman as far as using that split change and the fast ball at the top of the zone. It’s all about getting the hitter to be able to show the ability to get them off balance. I felt like the fast command at the top of the zone was excellent and being able to change that eye level. The left-handed batters were neutralized with that depth change or that split change. He could have told them that pitch is coming and it still would have been the same result. out of 18 swings and misses, 11 with that split change. So, he had confidence all day long. I didn’t want him to come out of the ball game because I felt like we’re going to see even more history, but that is a big time start and he really did a good job of feeding off the energy and obviously the offense backed him all day long. But that is an absolute outstanding start for the young man and you’re going to see it. This is not going to be the last time we’re going to hear from you, Savage. You guarantee that? Yeah, we might see him again in game five if the Yankees are fortunate enough to get it there. Look, the Yankees won back-to-back elimination games in the wild card series against the Red Sox, but something has gone very wrong in the Yankee world right now. Down 02, headed back home with their playoff lives on the line. We got a pitch. I mean, this Toronto team, it it shows the difference in how these two teams are constructed. The Toronto Blue Jays do not swing and miss. Yeah. They put the ball in play. And we sit here, we talk, we go through analytics the last couple years, at least I’ve been here, and how much people put value on analytics, but how many times did the Toronto Blue Jays just put the ball in play and they found holes? I’m telling you, 38 bats, five punch out last night as well. I mean, you can ask for no more for the team that carry that division all year round. And that’s what makes the different. They had the combination of good pitching with that incredible offense. And let’s not stop talking about the warrior Vladimir Guerrero. That’s what Guerrero mean in English. This kid, he like to live the moment. Yeah. He love when this situation come, especially against the Yankees, he know how to shows up. I mean, this guy is the center of the lineup and he’s like, “Guys, jump on my back. I got you.” Yeah. And captain, you were talking about this team makes contact, more contact than any other team in baseball. And look, the best thing you can do if you want to win a World Series, take all the data, analytics, all the groups, stick them in a a boiler room up there, and keep them there to November 15th. There’s the time of year you got to value 90 feet. You got to catch the ball. And look at the the strikeout totals. 21 for the Yankees, only seven for the Toronto Blue Jays. And Vlad Guerrero Jr.’s grand slam kind of made it a wrap unofficially. He has been unbelievable against the Yankees. He is less popular in New York City than Serge Pricing in Midtown Manhattan. Uh take a look at the first six games of his postseason career as opposed to what he’s done to start this DS. Again, he’s doing it against the Yankees. He’s got a thing, man. Certain opponents bring out certain greatness. And that’s certainly the case with Vlad Jr. I tell you what, man. If Vlatty Jr. play 162 games against the Yankee, he might be the MVP of the league. This guy destroyed the junk. I mean, look at this guy right here. Wow. Don’t come to my kitchen without asking me. This is how he get it done. This guy is so dangerous. When he get hot on a song, it’s hard to beat him. He had now the best play cover out of everybody. You come in, I hurt you. You go away from me, I hurt you, too. He’s the hottest hitter in the base right now. He’s ridiculous right now. you know, he sets the tone for the entire lineup. You know, when he’s hot, when he’s swinging like he’s swinging right now, he’s very, very comfortable at the plate. Even the pitches that he’s taken, there’s no one way to pitch him. We touched on that before the game. You pitch him in, he pulls, you pitch him away, he goes the other way. He hits for power, he puts the ball in play. He is as hot. I I mean, look, he kills the Yankees, but he’s as hot as I’ve seen him. You got to be really careful, Matty, when you talk about numbers, because numbers can fool us, okay? You have a bunch of guys that play 158, 160 games and they aggregate numbers. 35 home runs, 100 ribbies, but they cannot touch good pitching. That means you can’t contribute in October. Well, Vlad, I mean, Guerrero Jr. is exactly like you, Poppy. He is bad pitching, middle pitching, great pitching, everybody. You know, it’s a good point. Just like Poppy, who knew how to admire a home run in a big moment. We’re going to split screen. Judge it. David, you you did your Oh, wow. Let’s go pimping. Uhhuh. How far did he go? Wow. Who did it better? Oh my god, man. He learned from the best. Guys, hotter than Jamaica in the middle of the summer right now. Why you what? Jamaican in the middle of the what? The summit. Have you been in Jamaica in the middle of the summer? I’ve never heard that one. There’s nothing hotter than that. Okay. Dominican. You know who’s just as hot is Daltton Vo. We can’t sleep on the day he had four hits. first four hit game in his career, two homers. So, the supporting cast is getting involved as well. And you had Cle Clemens Clement, third base. Listen, great players do not win championships. Great teams do. And there’s a big difference. And that’s why I think one of the last arbitrageers in the game of baseball, in the in the game of sports, is is continuity. And they have some. And look at these swings here. Little change up, catch it out front. We had to I had to say this. There’s guys in the lineup that take pressure off of other guys and at the end of the day, you will not know where the punch is going to come from. And that’s that is exactly what is happening right here. Blatty, Junior, Springer, those guys take pressure off the rest of the lineup and you have to be you have to be careful with everybody else because you don’t know you don’t know what’s going to happen, you know, and and and that’s why this line is so productive. Hey Jer, I remember watching captain uh in the subway series in 2000. I’m sitting right behind home plate. First or second pitch, you go Bobby Jones deep fly. Great players set the tone early. That’s exactly what Vlad did, Poppy. That’s exactly what you did. And you said it guys, the Blue Jays are going to go as as far as uh Vlad takes them. It looks like they can go pretty far. That was a funny game. Like I I know we’ll show up and ready to go expecting to win uh Tuesday night. So, um, you know, obviously feels like the world’s caving in around you and, you know, you lose two games like that, uh, in their building where it doesn’t go right. Um, but all of a sudden, you go out there and and win a ball game on Tuesday. The needle can change. There’s been a lot of weird things that have happened in baseball this year. This would not be the weirdest. Yankees have done it as recently as 2017 when they went down 02 to Cleveland and then came back to win that division series. They’re going to lean on Carlos Rodon who put together his finest year as a Yankee during the regular season against Shane Bieber for Toronto looking to close it out. Derek, give us some perspective here. Yankees going home 02. One game, like Aaron said, one game can change the dynamics of a series. One game changed the dynamics of a series when we played Boston. I’ve been on the other end. We’re down two games. We went beat Oakland. What the Yankees have to try to do is try to find some positives from the end of this game. And the positive is the bats started waking up a little bit. Now, in the pregame, if we sat here and said the Yankees would score seven runs, we’d probably say what? They were going to win, right? They need to continue swinging their bats, but they have to find a way to shut down the Toronto Blue Jays offense. Absolutely. Look, they were dead in the water for, you know, the first kind of 14 or 15 innings, not feeling good about themselves, wondering, do they have a heartbeat in there somewhere? And look, I know they pounced the second tier Blue Jays pitching, but you know the offensive mind as you go and you fly home tonight, you start feeling a little bit better, stand up a little taller, and you can trick yourself to say, you know what, fellas, if Max Freed would have played well or pitched well, we would have won. It would have be 1-1. So maybe you build on that positivity. Do you agree, Poppy? They can bring Jesus back and they still going to go to Cancun. It’s over. It’s a wrap. Just so you know, this Toronto Blue Jay Lino ain’t playing around. They blowing this game up. I mean, guys, come on. Come on. You guys did your best. You can go to heaven to play. Shot it down. Trying to pump up the Yankees. And you shot us down again. Keep it up. You’re going to be in Cancun watching it with y’all. You know who loves to hit? Who loves to hit a Yankee Stadium? Vlad Guerrero Jr.’s numbers in the Bronx are even better than they are against the play. All it takes is one game. It just takes one game that can turn the series. It could take a couple It could take a couple innings. We were playing in the World Series in um 2000 against the Mets. We’re winning game two 6 nothing going in the top of the ninth inning. The Mets scored five runs. Now, we won the game, but that momentum carried to game three. The Mets won game three. Obviously, we came back and won the series, but it is possible. You know, you’re on the flight. If they didn’t score any runs, if they would have kept this kid in longer, they’d be on the flight sitting there like, “Oh god, I’m trying to figure out my swing.” But now you have a lot of people in that lineup saying, “I feel a little something right now.” Now, don’t say anything. I’m saying don’t say anything. Hey, let me tell you. I love you so much, but the only chance that the Yankee has is if you, Mo, Andy, and A come back and play Reggie Jackson, Beirut, all of them. Yo, Deo, Poppy, you’re married. Jesus. All right, I’m going to just say what Andy Pettit and and Cap, you know this, it’s been the second day, Matty, and I haven’t had an Andy Petta mentioned, so here’s my first one of many. It’s going to be a long month, but he would always say in our private meetings, players only, he goes, “Fellas, I know we’re struggling. This is on us. I have to go out tomorrow and pitch seven, eight innings and hand the bottom up.” That’s exactly why Derek doesn’t like it. I’m trying to be positive.
