Breaking News: NHL Trade – Flyers & Sharks Complete 3 Player Deal
We have some breaking news in the NHL. We have a trade between the Flyers and the San Jose Sharks one day before rosters are due to be set for the opening of the 2526 season. We’ll discuss the deal coming up next. So, welcome back to another video here at TopShelf Hawk. As I mentioned, we have an NHL trade to discuss and there’s going to be another video here coming very shortly with a large group of players going on waiverss today. Of course, this is going to be the last day for a lot of roster cuts. Uh tomorrow 5:00 is when rosters for the opening of the season need to be submitted. So there will be some probably some more cuts tomorrow as well. But uh anybody needing waivers uh will need to be uh cleared waivers by tomorrow. Um so this is going to be a big list today. But we do have a trade to discuss first and foremost here between Philadelphia in San Jose. Uh the Flyers get to save some cap space with this move and the Sharks, well they get to uh gain another extra asset and dump a contract they weren’t fond of either. So, the Philadelphia Flyers traded a contract for Ryan Ellis, uh, who has got one year, uh, actually two years left. He’s in year seven of eight on that contract. Hasn’t played in a while, will not play hockey in the NHL in the future. So, they know this is going to be 100% dead money. Uh, making 6.25 million. So, he’s got this year and one more. So, that contract traded from Philly to San Jose along with a 2026 sixround pick. Now, Philadelphia has two picks right now for that round. They will get the pick that ends up being higher. Going back the other way to the Philadelphia Flyers is veteran winger Carl Grundstrom. Uh he’s in the final year of his contract making 1.8 million. Again, another player that’s kind of fell out of favor. uh started with the Leafs, went to the Los Angeles Kings where he played the bulk of his career, ended up in San Jose most recently and they didn’t really have a roster spot for him and now he moves to Philadelphia. Um so $1.8 million there and they also get uh Ardram Gri, a 22-year-old defenseman in the final year of his rookie contract. So again uh he won’t count towards the cap, just Grundstrom. So overall, the Flyers end up saving just shy of $4 and a half million dollars in cap space. And now the San Jose Sharks have over $34 million on their books per year as dead cap space. That’s a lot of uh money. Obviously, they got the uh the San Jose Sharks picked up Carrie Price. They have Logan Couture of their own doing that they won’t play anymore. Now they have Ryan Ellis. So, there’s just a lot of money there that’s uh not going to play hockey anymore, but they’re getting extra assets. They’re rebuilding and it allows them to run a smaller payroll while they’re doing that cuz these players don’t necessarily need LTI air when you have all that available camp space, but it’s there if they do decide to need it. So, there we go. So, the uh the Sharks and the Flyers pull off a deal. Like I said, there’s going to be some big waiverss news here coming soon. I just want to get this video recorded and hopefully upload it. Uh the waiverss news is going to be announced here just as I finish up this video. So, that one will be coming here um in in very short order. So, stay tuned for that. Thanks very much for watching. I’ll catch you next time.

Let me know your thoughts on this news
Good Job, Danny 👏
San Jose doesn’t know how to make a trade lol
The Sharks might not need the Price contract anymore this year and could flip it later if a team like Pittsburg convinces their veterans to leave. The Sharks just needed a net-minus one NHL contract so Misa and Dickinson can play past nine games. They also needed help getting to the salary floor next year which Ellis helps but Price doesn’t. Grundstrom was going to get waived tomorrow anyway.
I'm thinking maybe Eric Cardwell has made the Sharks opening day roster now
Thank you! Appreciate the work you do. Straight forward reporting!!! Keep up the good work.
As usual why can't make a deal for somebody that they can actually use ?
Good Riddance Ellis .
Keep it going Danny .
LETS GO FLYERS !! !!!
Who did the Flyers get?
Ryan Ellis is a terrible teammate. He never once talked to media, was ABSENT for the Flyers team picture. Glad hes officially, gone.
never heard of either shit player
Sharks will basically have so much cap space in a few years, It'll almost be enough to buy a new roster (excluding the young core).
This move is a win/win for both sides.
Sharks make roster space for misa AND Dickinson, get a draft pick, get some cap floor insurance for future trades.
Philly gets rid of a bad contract and 2 players (1 of them already on wavers)
