Have Michael Brandsegg-Nygard and Axel Sandin-Pellikka made the team? | Gustafsson and Holl waived
Today on Lockdown, Red Wings Eric Gustoson and Justin Hull are waved. Does this mean we’re seeing MBN and ASP? You’re Locked On Red Wings, your daily podcast on the Detroit Red Wings, part of the Locked On Network, your team every day. Welcome back to the Locked On Red Wings podcast. We are your hosts, Brian Fischer and Scotty Bentley, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team every day. You can find us wherever you get your podcasts. Scotty, Red Wings won their final preseason game on Saturday in thrilling comeback fashion. The plan was to, you know, spend the whole episode breaking it down and preparing people for the regular season. But Sunday, some more pressing news kind of happened because it caused fervor, caused speculation. Uh, the Red Wings placed on waiverss defenseman Eric Gustiffson and Justin Hull. So, we will spend as much time as needed in this episode breaking down why they were placed on waiverss, if we were surprised they were placed on waiverss, what that imp what the implications are for some of the young players on this team as two players had to be removed off this roster to get this team compliant down to 23 because they were at 25. And then when we talk about all those possibilities with all the thrilling rookies, we will move on to the pre-season finale that we saw. Of course, some of it will probably be baked in as we talk about the young guys, too. So, before we get to any of that, got to let you guys know today’s episode is brought to you by FanDuel. Scotty, as I previously stated, Eric Augustson and Justin Hull were placed on waiverss by Detroit on Sunday, and they are now capable, they are now allowed to be picked up by another team. If they are not, and they’re passed on by every single team, they are then eligible, that’s the key word, eligible to be sent down to Grand Rapids. when you saw before we even get to what this means for ASP MBN and MFinny when you saw those two names on the waiver wire like what was your first reaction? Well to reply to the text you sent me in all caps that said bro check waivers was that was actually the first thing I did. Um I got yeah two text messages that one said bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro bro and the other one said check w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w w wa. And so I went and checked and I I think you know I I would say both of them are I don’t want to call either super surprising. Maybe Guffs have sent a little but I I want to start with Paul. I don’t think that that one is oh my goodness this is the most shocking thing ever. Right. I don’t feel that way personally about the the whole waiver decision. That’s something we’ve been talking about for two calendar years at this point. And as you mentioned earlier today when we were talking on the phone like they literally have put him on waiverss before as a Redwing. Like he has been in, you know, Grand Rapids before. So like that that one’s not the most surprising thing in the world. There’s a 0% chance anybody picks him up, he’s going to clear whatever. Gustoson was the surprise to me. That is legitimately I would use that word. I I would use the word kind of like surprising. Um, and that’s not to say that he was some solidified top four defenseman or some key part of the Red Wings blue line. However, I still think that if you would have asked most Red Wings fans four or five days ago, hey, do you think that the Wings are going to consider waving Gustoson? The answer would have been no. And I I think that it does. I mean, we can start with those two guys before we get into the like what it could mean. But I mean, obviously the everyone’s immediate reaction is going to be, okay, well, math. If if two guys on the blue line are are now on waiverss, you’re you’re going to potentially remove two roster spots, that opens two spots for some other guys. So, um, the math is mathing here. What? The math is mathing here, right? It is. It is indeed. So, yeah, I you know, I I I think it was just surprising to see both of their names on there uh and just see them both on the list before opening night. But in terms of, you know, their production or role, I I can’t say that it’s, you know, the most oh my goodness, you know, mind-breaking news ever, but I I think it’s potentially really exciting. I mean, when you look at the right side of the D, you have s all of a sudden they have all kinds of options there. You have Cider, you have uh Albert Johansson who’s played played right side even though he’s a lefty last season. You have Travis Hamick, you have Justin Hull, and now you have Axel Sandine Pelica who is, you know, bursting onto the scenes. So, Justin Hall or Travis Hamick became expendable. I agree that Eric Gustiffson was a bit of a surprise to me because on the other hand, your left side is kind of thin in the way you’ve been playing it, right? You have Sherat, you have Sai Edmonson, then you have who? Gustoson. Now, if what we saw in the final preseason game is a glimpse of what’s to come, it makes sense because if you’re moving Albert Johansson back to his natural left side to free up roster spots for Hamik, ASP, and JBD, who are natural righties, then it makes more sense. And plus, Albert Johansson’s going to play better on the left-hand side. He’s had a great preseason, too. It makes a lot more sense. Plus, play style-wise, right? Like, Gustiffson is an offensive style defenseman. So is JBD. So is ASP. You don’t need that many on your team. And Gustoson’s role, if ASP makes the team, is gonna take a step back because you assume ASP with how he plays will almost immediately take on some sort of power play role as PP2 quarterback or maybe on the flanks, right? We saw that one of those looks and he did that over in the SHL as well. So, it makes sense once I processed it. It wasn’t one of the first candidates. I thought honestly the first candidates especially because we’re looking at maybe two forwards making the team that we didn’t expect uh as a possibility I thought they’d wave Bergen to be honest. I’ve been super un unimpressed by Barren’s preseason. He made one really nice play coming out of the box to open up a goal for Lucas Raymond. That was a great play but that’s one play across multiple games that he played where I felt he was overall invisible. But that’s again we talk about this with Bergen all the time and he stays on the team which is great. I love Berg Bren as a personality, but I think he just kind of underperforms most nights. He’s just kind of his role is what it is. He’s a he’s a bottom six shooter. He’s not particularly fast. He’s not particularly strong. Doesn’t have the particular He’s not particularly cerebral, but he’s got a wicked shot. And on the power play, he can really make it work. I kind of thought he’d be the odd man out if you were going to keep an extra forward, but it’s looking like they may carry 70 and 14 forwards to get you to 21 and then two goenders get you to 23. So where at the start of the preseason we thought they’d carry eight defenseman and there was no way ASP could make it on the roster all of a sudden they’re actually fulfilling in theory they could be speculation they could be fulfilling what they’ve been saying all along and it’s that if a young player outplays a veteran the young player will earn that roster spot which is super exciting. It’s not official and it’s not official because of something that you know of course I go on social media I’m pumped up because I’m like again the math is mathing. I go if these guys clear waiverss they’re going to get sent down that means we’ll have roster spots for EMTT Finny Michael Bren Segard and Axel Sandine Pelica all on the roster at the same time but Ryan Hannah wind podcast correctly pointed out I knew this but it just in the excitement I had forgotten and this is what we had seen with Justin Hull last season is that just because you clear waiverss does not guarantee you’re going to be sent down to the miners. So they have once a player clears waivers, they can be on the team for 30 cumulative days or until they have played 10 or more NHL games and then they have to clear waiverss again. So it’s not a guarantee even as exciting as it is that they’re on waiverss that that means that MBN and ASP will make the team. But at the same time, I I have a hard time imagining they would make these moves if they weren’t going to keep Michael Brennard, Axel, Sandine, Pelica, and EMTT Finny. They have no reason to sit at under 23 players to like acrew cap or anything because they have 11 or 12 million in cap space. We saw that a little bit last year. They’d sit at 22 and make paper moves, which the NHL got away with, did done away with the paper move thing. um to acrew cap space for the deadline, right? Because they were capstrapped. They’re not cap strapped this season. So, in my eyes, I’m looking at this and I go maybe I just don’t see how they don’t make this decision unless you’re going to carry three rookies on the roster in towards opening night. It also means they could, I think, in theory send them down to the miners, but they could just like stay at practice, I think. Correct. So, they could technically carry 25. Well, two Thursday. Yeah. During practice, but two of those guys would technically be sent down. I think they can do that, but that’s again I’m I have to clarify. Yeah, that that’s just a timing thing like that on opening night they have to be at 23 obviously. So, yeah, because Todd Mlullen did say after the game like just the roster you see on Monday, not might not be the roster you see on th. So, is that because of a is that a hint towards what might be coming or is that just media talk, right? like don’t get don’t get too excited one way or the other. Either way, very exciting. Uh we’ll talk about the rookies in segment two, Scotty. Uh so stay tuned to Lockdown Red Wings. The big implication here with Hull and Gustoson being placed on waiverss is that it opens up enough roster space for Axel, Sandy, and Pelica, Michael Bran, Segard, and EMTT Finny to all make the official opening night roster uh Monday. I think it’s a five when it’s due, your official 23man roster going into the regular season. How does that change your outlook on the season and your projection of the lineups? Well, it obviously it changes the projection of the lineups a ton. talking about the thoughts on the season is really interesting to me because I think that this is a move that probably uh not even probably almost assuredly raises your ceiling this year if this does happen. Again, this is all speculation at this point, but they have the opportunity to do so. this raises the floor the the ceiling rather. I’m not sure it guarantees that it raises the floor because now your team is is very young. Like if if all of those guys are to make it, you’re talking about a very young roster and and the elimination of some veterans. Now again, the ceiling gets higher. And I think that honestly that is a a tradeoff that I am 100% in favor of making given where these guys are likely going to slide into the lineup. Right? I I I don’t need a below average veteran on my third pair or on my fourth line. Right? I I will take that roster spot to be a young rookie who has maybe a chance to surpass the production of said veteran. And I think that when talking about the outlook of the season all summer, we talked about how the the Red Wings didn’t do a whole lot, right? The off season was very quiet and back in the spring, we were like, it can’t be quiet. It has to be anything but quiet. They need to add legitimate big pieces. They need a big splash. They need to do something noteworthy to not show because that doesn’t matter, but they they needed to shake things up. Clearly, just going in with the same roster or close to the same roster with the same core for the third year in a row was not going to just single-handedly get them over the hump and make them a playoff team. This is kind of the only thing they have left in order to to accommodate that or in order to do that, right? The only thing they still have in their back pocket is a really really talented farm system, one of the most talented in the NHL. And so if you’re talking about like who are you going to add, right? Who are you going to add to try to raise the ceiling of this team and try to, you know, give them the personnel required to get them over the hump and get them back into the postseason? You didn’t do it in free agency. You didn’t do it in the trade market. Your only option left kind of is to just open the floodgates finally of the farm system. start calling some of these kids up and seeing if the production can raise and and you can uh you know play that brand of hockey that you’ve been playing in the preseason for whatever that’s worth and that production carries over etc. And I think that that is the way you kind of insert talent into a roster that couldn’t find any other way to insert talent into it for the last four months. I don’t think I could sum it up any better than the way you just did it. I I think that the biggest point you hit on is the the floor and ceiling piece, right? Because and I cuz I was talking I was having the same conversation with my teammates uh during warm-ups on Sunday. It’s if you want to stay exactly where you were, maybe get a little bit better with Edmonson and Casper, then you carry all the veterans. But because of the the things you stated with how the offseason didn’t pan out the way you wanted because nobody was really available, the only way is to do some riskreward with young guys. And these the younger players, they earned it. You want them to be on your NHL roster. They came in preseason, they bowled out, and they looked ASP. We’re if we eat Crow, if he 5:00 tonight, by the time people are listening to this, rolls around and he’s on the roster, we will so happily eat Crow about him making this team cuz all offseason and all preseason, what were we saying? We were saying he’s got NHL upside. He’ll be an NHL player, but we just think he’ll probably need time in the Grand Rapids because the defens’s side of his game is going to take adjusting to the NHL size ice. Well, he did all of that adjusting in eight preseason games, less than that because he didn’t play in every single one throughout training camp. Like Axel, Sandy, and Pelica from the start of like, let’s say, the red and white game and the prospect games to preseason game number eight took massive strides forward in his game. NBN we always said would be NHL ready first just because the style of play he plays translates way better to the NHL size ice. And they actually brought up on the broadcast, he’s not unfamiliar with this size ice either. He had training camp last year with the Red Wings. He also in Norway played on US size ice, NHL size ice, not the Olympic sized ice. That’s the size they use in his country when he was playing in those leagues. So, he’s not unfamiliar with it. So, we will happily eat Crow. And it does raise the ceiling while it does because you expect rookie slumps like you don’t I don’t think NBN and ASP are going to go out there and both of them be colder favorites, right? I expect some es and flows. They’ll show you some flashes and they’ll struggle sometimes and it might hurt the team, but they might also give you huge boost and see huge growth. These are the types of moves you make that can be needle movers internally. But that also opens you up too to while those vets that you waved weren’t very good, they’re also you also know what you’re getting in those vets. So I I completely think this is the 100% the correct decision for this team to make because sitting Pat and keeping oh keeping the floor just where it was maybe a little higher isn’t enough. Um they had to make this play assuming again that putting Gus and Hull on waiverss is to free up space to keep NBN ASP and EMTT Finny and we haven’t really mentioned EMTT Finny practice again on the top line. JVR is coming back. I am really curious how James Van Remdik’s uh return to the practice lines and games will kind of interfere with the youth as well. Uh he because again it doesn’t stop at opening night. These rookies have to continually earn it especially as they’ll continue to be waver exempt. Like they can be sent down to Grand Rapids in a heartbeat. They have to continually earn it with all these veterans on the roster too that they’re competing against. But it’s an incredibly exciting moment for Detroit Red Wings fans that this is very possibly happening. It’s not a guarantee. Five o’clock could come around and they get sent down. This whole episode looks stupid. But well, I the writing seems like it’s like again like you you you have opened the door. Like I I think that that’s worth a conversation even if it doesn’t end up happening. And the thing is that you know the waiver assuming they both clear which we are like that that can carry on for a while too. You know what I mean? Like that that can a team picks up Gusto or Hull like are we heartbroken about it? Well, no. I if if a team picks up Justin Hull, I I will I mean it would suck to lose the depth option 100%. But it’s not like I mean there’s a reason they were placed in waiverss and not traded, right? Yeah, Gustiffson has an outside chance just because like of of the contract and you know a third pair you know offensive defenseman somewhere and whatever but I first off I don’t think either of them are going to um and yeah you know Justin Hall there there is just absolutely no chance that that’s happening. And you look at the starting lineup too, right Scotty? You look at the lineup from the final preseason game where these three were in the lineup. Those two got waved were not in the lineup. Your offensive lines are obviously the top line had EMTT Finny on it. The third line had um Michael Rasmusen, Mason Appleton, Elmer Soderblum. Your fourth line was JT Comfort. I’m sorry. Your third line was JT Comfort, Andrew Cop, and Michael Bransard. I would imagine Michael Rasmusen, Elmer Soderblum, and Mason Appleton kind of be your checking line. Uh they got a lot of minutes in that game, but I think it doesn’t really matter. Third and fourth line, the minutes are going to be fairly close, but I mean that gives that line with JT Conference and Andrew Cop has a lot of heaviness to it. Two two-way forwards along with an you have two actually defensively responsible bottom six. Like those are two bottom six lines I’m not afraid to put out there in the defensive zone. And there’s scoring touch there too. Elmer Stoblam on one line. You have Michael Brennard on the other. Obviously MBN would get power play time. It rais I would argue like we’re talking about maybe theoretically could lower the floor, right? But at the same time I’m looking at that I’m like I that feels like the floor is raised there. Well, that’s the thing like we’re you know I guess yeah like to depending on which again this whole conversation is like depending on what the final roster looks like and obviously when that final roster is announced we will have an entire different conversation about the decision that’s made um and and all the the the decisions that are made. But yes, like I mean to your point, if you even want to poke holes in what I said earlier, it’s pretty easy to do so. And and like how how much is the the All right. How much is the floor being lowered by Justin Hall not being the like eighth defenseman on the roster, right? Like, you know what I mean? Like I I don’t know. I I I think I think the Gustoson ASP thing that could be a ceiling higher floor lower thing, but like uh again like a guy like Justin Hull, there’s a reason that no one’s going to claim him. Like he that is it just hasn’t worked out here. And so um yeah, I mean we’ll we’ll see. It’s going to be a really exciting roster announcement. That is for sure the more exciting and recent memories. And like the the floor lowering argument is like that’s not that we’re assuming that like I don’t assume the floor is going to be lower. That’s like a worst case scenario if the rookies don’t pan out and then they get sent down. You bring all those guys back up. But it also like assumes okay the rookies are going to struggle. But we’ve seen whole struggle. We’ve seen Gustiffson struggle. So is them struggling really that much worse than what the rookies are going to struggle if they if they do which I’m not assuming they do. So like really does it really lower the floor that much now that we’re really kind of get getting into the weeds. We’re arguing semantics on a speculation. Doesn’t matter. We’re really excited if this happens. We think that this could be the needlemoving move that the Red Wings need and honestly has to happen. These rookies have to crack the roster at some point. We can’t keep kicking that can down the road. And now this is like finally Eisermanman’s full like if this happens like we’re finally getting to Eisermanman’s draft picks. You have four first round picks on the roster at the same time. Finally. Nate Danielson’s not far behind. If he hadn’t gotten hurt, he could be here instead of like EMTT Finny. And how awesome is it that a seventh round pick and EMTT Finny could potentially be on this roster? This is such an awesome moment if it occurs, but we’re assuming it does just based on, you know, the uh the the writing on the wall, you know, the the things that are happening. Scotty, let’s head to segment three. Uh we do have to talk a little bit about the game. Don’t have to get too big into it. Uh just thrilling comeback. Hope I would prefer them on the team than the the, you know, than the depth veterans. Like I I I think that that’s just what this team needs if they want any sort of to give themselves again, it’s boomer bust, but that that’s kind of what they need at this point. Yeah. And I just think that the upside that they provide is going to is the needle moving mo needle moving moment that this team has needed because it’s got to come internally. And Eiserman said it he was on Aussie and Keith’s pod podcast last week and he said in this league like you can get supplemental pieces through free free agency but often times championships are built through the draft and that’s what he’s trying to accomplish. So finally getting almost like an explosion of youth on this team. Now you have Cider, you have Raymond, you have Casper, you have what you specifically have been asking for on this show, I think since we started hosting together, right? So I’m I’m pumped. I was like so amped. Anyways, they they earned this opportunity if it comes to fruition through that game on Saturday. I mean, they earned it all camp. MBN’s a dog, bro. He’s an absolute dog. He’s such a dog. He’s such a dog, man. Like it Sorry. I I just I love watching him play hockey. He He is He that is the grittiest youngster you will see. Okay. He’s just an absolute dog. He He’s also got a cannon of a shot. It is. He He’s an electric factory. I He He’s not the the flashy guy, right? Like ASB has the potential to be a really flashy offensive defenseman. Um, I mean, Adam I almost just said Adam Finny again. EMTT Finny. If it if it makes you feel better, the fans are latching on to it. They have all started calling him Adam Finny, too. So, that’s so ridiculous. Um, it is I just I love MBN. I absolutely adore him. I I I think he’s going to be a really good hockey player. Yeah, he had two goals in that this uh finale. Uh Confer actually made a really slick backhand pass cross crease to uh Adam Finny in this instance. Uh I’m sorry, MBN. I just wanted to say Adam Finny. It was Michael Bran Bran Seg. Good job who just slammed it home back door. It was a great play. It was actually terrible defensive play by the uh Toronto Marlies because that’s basically what Toronto iced in this hockey game. And then he had another goal later on. I’m trying to find it on my sheet because there’s so many goals in this game. It was uh the third power play the the Red Wings had in this hockey game. ASP fed him for a shot that he hammered home on the power play. ASP himself having two primary assists. The one on the affforementioned Michael Brand Ziggard and then Albert Johansson’s cannon to tie the game with like 30 seconds left in the third period. ASP fed that him on that one as well. And again preseason, man, the growth he has shown in such a short amount of time is it can’t be stated enough. I’m excited. I’m really excited. Him and Edmonson, you know, we we have not seen that pair together a ton just because of the Edmonson injury so far this uh camp and preeason. and Aljo has looked legitimately like it won’t be talked about as much because he’s not, you know, one of the the like shiny rookies and he’s not one of the core, you know, like topline players, but he has been one of the more uh I I think noteworthy players of preseason legitimately. Well, and as we talk about like forward lines in segment two, we kind of neglected to talk about defensive pairs. Like we got some looks at defensive pairs that felt so fresh. Obviously, you had Cider and Sherrod on the top pair. Uh that’s going to probably just be the de facto top pair, at least to start the season, just because they’ve played so much together. Could change. We saw change in this game as it rolled out. We had Albert Johansson back on his natural left side with Axel Sandy Pelica to start the game and then it was Simon Edmonson with uh Jacob Bernard Docker. I’m sorry, all these initialisms, man. They’re messing with me. Yeah, we we’re big on the three name players this year for sure. It’s going to it’s going to kill me. Um but then that got flipped and it was Edmonson and ASP and Bernard Docker with Albert Johansson. I’d like to throw in there, you move Edmonson up with Cider, get your super pair, move Sherat down with Jacob Bernard Docker and have Johansson and ASP. But I understand they got they took Johansson away from ASP because you know they weren’t I don’t know. I mean ASP slammed home. I might be getting it mixed. They did they did switch the pairs at one point. I’m trying to remember which way they switched. No, they well they the last two games of the preseason were just complete revolving door like you know line blender the entire game. Um yeah man. I I don’t know. I I it’s one of those things where you don’t think that they are going to have a legitimate opportunity to make the team just because like history would tell you not. But then after a move like this happens and after they play a game that looked like the last two preseason games, you kind of look around and you’re like, well, like duh, right? Like you know what I mean? Like it’s it’s like, okay, well, now that they have the opportunity to Yeah, that makes all the sense in the world. Like they they have legitimately been like I I there is a real argument that Finny MBN, those two have been two of the best players on the Detroit Red Wings in the preseason. like that that there is a I’m not sure it’s a winning argument, but there is a legitimate argument that those two guys have been, you know, maybe not one and two, but like two of the top five players on the wings in the entire preseason. I mean, and and knowing what’s up for grabs for each individual player matters because obviously, you know, you know, Dylan Lin like but but you’re right. You are correct. They they I would say they were one and two and the three or four three and four were ASP and Nate Danielson. And Nate Danielson I think would be on this team if he hadn’t gotten hurt. Yeah. They’ve all been great. They’ve all earned this opportunity if this opportunity is truly coming again to fruition. We have to wait until the official word at 5:00, but things are trending in that direction based on who got waved. And it’s just super reassuring to hear that after years and years of hearing the kids will make the team if the kids earn a spot that it’s actually happened. And I was skeptical. I mean, we we assumed one rookie would make this team because there seemed to be an a forward spot available. But on top of what we already stated about ASP with what we assumed he’d have to go through and the seasoning he would need down in Grand Rapids and he could still end up needing more seasoning. Again, he’s waver exempt. they can just send him back down there if he’s not playing well, but he’s earned the spot on the the lineup to start. They had eight defenseman and I was like, I always knew they could bury Hamick $1 million. It’s whatever. Or they could bury hole, but you had eight NHL vets signed the contracts and you’re like, how does he crack the lineup? Because historically, this team hasn’t really given the youth that opportunity until they’re overcooked, right? So seeing this is is super reassuring just from that rebuild perspective. It it raises the ceiling and now after we’ve talked about it, I’m not even necessarily sure it lowers the floor at all given what we know of the vets that are there. I’ve kind of changed the mind on that argument. I I’m thrilled and I really hope that come 5:00 that our hopes are confirmed. In other news, Scotty, again, I I I’m not really upset about the result in this hockey game. I mean, they won the game. It was a great comeback. It was super exciting in the third period. You know, Kane scored a great power play goal. Larkin scored twice as well. Goals. I don’t really like it’s fine. It’s cool. Whatever. They won. That’s awesome. That’s cool. They should have dominated that game. It was all the Marlies. And they really, honestly, period 2 and on, they really did dominate that game. The reason why I felt that it was almost a loss was because I don’t think Gibson had a very good game. And I am I’m not going to sound the alarm. He let in I thought like four goals that should that could have been savable. So I thought he had a pretty poor game overall, but at the same time it’s a preseason game. This is what we talk about, right? Like in the preseason, the good things fit my narrative. The bad things it’s just the preseason. Don’t worry about it. Um it it’s the final preseason game. A lot of these players, especially the vets, are trying to get through it just healthy. I know he was mad at himself on some of them. I do think he should have definitely made the save on like three or four of those, but it doesn’t change how I feel about John Gibson, but because it did happen, it needs to be mentioned. I agree with everything you just said. There’s a lot more we could talk about with this game. We don’t have time though, Scotty. We’re already at the 35m minute marker. We’ve been Oh, we still got a few episodes till you like, you know, we’ll we’ll talk about everything we need to talk about before game one for sure. Yep. I mean, tomorrow we’ll have the roster, so we’ll definitely talk about that. Yep. And then Tuesday we’ll fill. Wednesday we have a game preview. The Wednesday recording we have a game preview. That is Thursday we have a game. So really, it’s just one episode we got to we got to think outside the box for. We’ll We’ll be fine. We’ll be fine. We’ll be fine. We’re Scotty. We’re so back. We’re so back. Any final thoughts? We ball, baby. We ball. We’ll be back with a new episode tomorrow. Stay tuned for that. Same time, same place. It’s your team every day.
The Detroit Red Wings played their final preseason game Saturday, and it was the final showcase for the three rookies who really stood out at camp. Axel Sandin-Pellikka and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard certainly did, both having multi-point games. On Sunday, speculation began to swirl their efforts would be rewarded, as Erik Gustafsson and Justin Holl were placed in waivers. If they clear and are sent down this would mean their roster spots would be available. #LGRW

D will be 1. Seider/Aljo 2. Edvinsson/ASP 3. Chiarot/whomever. It is not rocket science. I dont understand how you two can be the lead of the podcast and seem so "surprised" Comment section has been saying all three (ASP Nygard and Finnie) would make the team while you guys are disappointingly beta milktoast. Zero hot takes or real insight other than send all young players to the AHL regardless of how good they are. Really disappointed in you two these past 3 weeks. Do you even read your own comment section?
Super stoked to get this news. At the same time, why wouldn't we expect this kind of move? Detroit's whole emphasis has been on building up the farm system. The only way that works is to actually bring the youth into the roster. Takes a little courage, but that's the whole point, right? Great news! Wish the best for the young guys and the team! LGRW!
My hot takes over the next year or two.
1. Edvinsson will end up being better than Seider (skates better and has a better shot); ASP will end up being better than both of them and run the power play by the end of next season. No disrespect to Seider but flowers to the talent of the other two.
2. Nygard will be on 2nd line with Kasper by next year pushing Kane to retire or be 4th line power play specialist
3. Danielson will force wings to finally get rid of Mr. no compete Compher within a month, Copp will be 4th line center which is still too high for that injury prone non skater.
4. The most interesting debate will be between Finnie and Nygard for 1st or 2nd line LW
5. Bergers and Ras are the next two to go…Mazor and maybe Lambo are already better.
6. Wings will be cup contenders within 3 years
This is a very rare chance that doesn't come very often, the leafs should seriously consider claiming both Gus & Holl.
Stevie,
I love you.
By the way, it's been a long, frustrating, and ultimately unsuccessful audition — i.e. it is time to cut ties with Martin Frk…..opps, sorry, sorry, I mean Jonatan Berggren…always get the two confused. Silly me.
Hopefully, you'll get a 6th and a bag of pucks in return.
That's your next step.
Glad I could help!
If ASP looks really good by N. Years, I would love to see Seider/Edv, Johan/ASP, Chiarot/Anyone else.
This is the only way that the organization is going to fully develop the young players have to play in the NHL! Now We ( All Wing fans )
Must be patient and take the good times and know that these kids will have bad games. But that's how you learn and Hopefully the Toddfather and coaches can help them grow too!
I want the younger players on the roster
They earned it all the way through
Believe in the Yzerplan and the Toddfather 🏒🥅🏆
Anyone notice Edvinson get an intentional elbow to the jaw from Knies and nobody did anything. Right there that tells you the wings are going to be the same old same old soft team to play against. So the favs are going to have to watch the softest team in the league get ran and pushed around night after night.
If the NHL was a soccer league Yzerman would be the best GM in the league.
If ASP stays all season, then, he will be the runaway calder favorite. Awards People love scoring defenseman, even if they can't defend
Asp defensively is not ready
I saw waves of good tidings when the news broke. Holl gus being waived is a miracle
I'm honestly more pumped for ASP cracking the lineup than I would have been for the alleged Karlsson trade
I hope all 3 make it up. Only problem I see is, who protects the kids from the Brady Tkachuks of the NHL?
Why doesn’t anyone say
Seider Johansson
Asp – edvinsson
Docker – chariot
This makes most sense
Emmie is honestly overated, Adam his brother on the other hand, absolute stud.
Danielson needs to replace Ras. Danielson is better defensively and likely offensively.
No, it means Yzerclown will bring back Petry and Red Kelley. Such is life!
We have both rink sizes in Norway. Some teams use SHL size and some use NHL size.
Brian scares me when he starts analyzing. Yikes!
Been hearing about prospects for so long, it's time to go all in with some of them.
Good riddance to those two.
Where are we at with Nate Danielson and his development?
ADAM FINNIE!
Rasmussen is the #1 player on this team that needs to go 😂 He is truly awful and is nothing but an anchor that takes the worst penalties at the worst times. They have to trade him next off-season
