It just keeps getting BETTER…
It just keeps getting better for the San Antonio Spurs. As an ESPN insider and former NBA player had something insane to say about Carter Bryant and one particular aspect of what he said has Spurs fans fired up more than ever as focuses on so many young Spurs. This man stands out for one particular reason. We got to dive into what Tim Leggler had to say about Carter Bryant and how some insane projections could very well come true, but also going to Bleacher Report because they’ve done their official record predictions for this year. And I got to say, our Spurs are very disrespected. All that coming up on this episode of Spurs Digest. And we’ll start with Bleacher Report. Now, I know Bleacher Report, not the pinnacle of of all predictions. Like, we should not take any of this to heart. But sometimes I find it tough. You know, sometimes I’m looking at Spurs News. Sometimes you guys are too. And we’re like, it hits me in my core, man, when I see teams and and other players and these news outlets not respecting our boys because I am incredibly biased because I am a fan and I don’t care that I am. Here are the win loss predictions for every team’s 202526 NBA season written by Grant Hughes. Again, no slander or anything. I’ll link this article down below. Check out some other teams in there. But before I even show you, what do you think the Spurs record is projected as? Maybe you’ve seen it already, maybe you haven’t. Either way, I want to hear what your thought for the Spurs record is this season. I think they could be a lot of different places based on Webby. But look, I’ll get to that in just a moment. But their big record here is 42 and 40. And look, here’s the thing is I think this is within my range of possible outcomes for the Spurs. My problem is that this is tied for 10th. Like there are nine teams that have better records than the Spurs in the West and they are tied, I think, with the Dallas Mavericks. I I might have to go back and double check that. Maybe you guys can. And they’re below a team like the Portland Trailblazers where they say the big focus is on Denny Abdia. Look, I think the Blazers are built interestingly. I think they do have lots of talent, but better than the Spurs. Like look, I mean, they’re the one team I handpicked out of this, then there are some other teams maybe you could choose as well. But let’s be honest, the West is a blood bath, it always has been a blood bath, and it’s never going to be easy to even get to 500. So, while 500 I think is a reasonable, realistic take on the Spurs, I can’t help but think they’ll be better. And I want to dive into what he said. Look, he said will actually, let’s make it full screen for your viewing pleasure. WBY will ensure San Antonio has a trustworthy defense whenever he’s on the floor, which has been the case since he entered the league. Yeah, Fox, former all-star in his prime, best teammate WBY ever had. Yeah, at the same time, the Spurs are going to rely on young, mistaken prone, shaky shooting guards in major roles, probably talking about Stfan Castle and maybe even Oh, you can’t see it in this shot, but Dylan Harper. So, yes, I understand that to some extent, right? And when you look at the roster, which screenshot is it here? I have a lot of screenshots. My bad. There we go. All of them. Maybe some teasers for the rest of the video. We got so much to talk about, but like look, I understand looking at this roster, it’s like there’s some young guys. There’s going to be some kicks that need to be ironed out. Jeremy So, what’s going to happen with him this year? Is he going to be fully healthy from his calf? He should be. Is Vel going to bounce back? How does Kell Johnson fit in again this year? But again, Castle and Harper are still big question marks because they’re young and they’re going to have to learn to play with a guy like Fox. But he did go on to say, combined with potential regression from veteran Harrison Barnes and the still uncertain chemistry between Wemby and Fox, it’s far from guaranteed that San Antonio will be better uh last year will better last year’s 20th ranked offensive rating. And see, that’s where maybe I I disagree a bit more because I think San Antonio just based off of speed and defensive ability alone will be better in terms of offensive rankings, right? Because we are going to force so many turnovers this this year in an ideal world. Like our defense is going to be decent anyway, of course, with Wemby, but with a guy like Fox who loves to jump these passing lanes, you get a bit more leeway with Castle, maybe even Harper, who’s a solid defender, Vel, and then Wemby and Cornet having these good rim protectors that can turn blocks into transition plays, right? Like, there’s so many other aspects of the Spurs defense that I think will help the offense become more efficient and higher scoring this year thanks to transition points. I don’t think it’s going to be like a 10-point swing or anything, but I do think it will be notable. And then also again, there’s certain guys we’ve talked about a million times that could very well have higher efficiency this year. Whether that’s a Stefon Castle, whether that’s a Victor Wanyama, right? Like these guys I would I don’t think it’s crazy to say WebM is going to shoot 50% from the floor this year, right? Like I I think it’d kind of be crazy if he didn’t very soon. We saw these scrimmage clips. We know what he’s capable of now. This new version of Webby is insane. And like I I get it, too. like there’s there are some some issues with the Spurs that lead to a lot of uncertainty, but there’s also an insane ceiling, which is why I have the Spurs at I I’m safely saying 45 or 46 wins. And the reason I say that is because I am very high on this young court. I am high on Wemama’s ability to affect the game more than I think a lot of models could predict. Yes, Basma is an individual driven sport. you need good teammates, but I just think that the talent is too undeniable to say that this team just won’t work purely because of chemistry. I think we’re going to see like a lot of guys falling into their roles and I think a lot of guys are going to prove experts wrong. But that’s my take. Maybe I’m biased. I’d love to hear your guys’ thoughts down below. Is 42 and 40 disrespectful? Maybe not disrespectful, but it’s lower than I would have had him. I’d love to hear what you guys have to say. But time to move on. And there’s some other very interesting stuff that we had to get to today. And it involves Carter Bryant. And Carter Bryant, look, let’s bring up the stats here. Look, college season, we know we picked him 14th overall, auto pick, right? 6 and a half points per game, 4.1 rebounds at Arizona. We knew that he was not going to come into the league being a ball dominant player. We know that on this roster, he’s the third string small forward. Could very well spend some time in Austin this year. But what else do we know? We know Carter Bryant is one of the nastiest defenders that we have ever straight up seen. And like in terms of just intensity and athleticism that summer league, my gosh. Well, here he is singing karaoke. I had to open with that, right? But this these clamps on Cooper Flag, there’s even blocks that I didn’t include here. I couldn’t include like just non-stop clips here. But this possession here on Cooper Flag is one of the biggest possessions of all summer league. This insane play to break up an alley. And even the athleticism that he’s shown in these camps over the summer has everyone talking about Carter Bryant. And so if I go to a Tim Leggler of ESPN, again, former player back in the 90s in the NBA, what he had to say, he straight up said, “I think Carter Bryant’s eventually going to be the defensive player of the year in this league.” That that was the end of his sentence. This is not out of context, quote, “This is straight up what he said.” And he backed it up because there the take in the video was kind of like, “What? Like what? Really, Tim?” And he’s like, “Yeah, absolutely.” And again, like these numbers, we know the offensive numbers, they don’t need to jump off the page, but it’s that defensive intensity, man. What he brings is absolutely ridiculous. And I’ll expand on what Tim Leggler had to say, saying he was so much more athletic than the next closest guy in Vegas, it was mind-blowing to me. Then he said some other stuff. Then he went on to say what he was doing and the way a guy that’s built, the way he’s built, how light he is on the balls of his feet, and the amount of ground he covers, and the explosive athletic ability off the ground, man. like yeah he’s and he goes on to say like what I said all defensive team defensive player of the year he said I do believe that he has the ability to be that level of a defender and I think why not right you watch what he’s capable of that intensity and in terms of pure explosive athleticism which is what you know what we usually think you drive into the net you’re talking these dunks right these huge dunk he can absolutely do that but it’s his lateral movement his abil look at that like like that one there like the explosiveness even that like yeah that’s what I’m saying I I was like Maybe that’s not. No, he absolutely is insane at that explosiveness off the ground. But his lateral movement, his ability to read the offensive player, he was playing insane defense on Cooper Flag. What I’m excited about this year is to watch how he integrates himself into the Spurs team’s defense because we know there’s not going to be too much run available for him barring an injury, right? Like because right now this season, we want to make the playoffs. Carter Bryant is a raw teenager. He is not like he’s buying he’s far far from the most skilled player on this team. He can knock down some threes. He was doing it in the scrimmage. He had a nice little turnaround midi. Obviously, he’s an NBA caliber player, but he’s still very raw. He has a lot of things still yet to learn. So, I don’t know how much time he’ll get on the Spurs, but if he gets a chance to show that defensive ability, like we talked about before, like you might not be able to say, well, let’s just bench him, right? You might have to say, geez, this guy is a pivotal guy. if he can even shoot league average from three. Man, I know it’s maybe a lot to ask for him to shoot league average from three and be an elite defender in his rookie year while he’s not even 20 years old, but that’s how much I believe in Carter Bryant. And again, it’s not just me, it’s you guys. It’s Tim Leggler. It’s a lot of people thinking very highly of him. Deepo, like the take was in the video, like I kind of agree. I was like, on a team with WBY, and that’s what the the co-host said in the video is like on a team with WBY, you’re projecting Carter Bryan could be Deepo. That’s how crazy of an impact he is making on other analysts, other people on on how good he looks in these scrimmages, how good he looked in summer league. So, the fact that we’re getting away with this again, like another guy that is getting this level of praise at the 14th pick, man, it warms my heart. I love it. Like, it’s it’s crazy to be a Spurs fan, honestly. And I think you guys tend to agree with it. It’s crazy to be a Spurs fan. uh to have WBY, to have Harper, to have Castle, to have Fox, to to have Carter Bryant, to be linked to Durant and Giannis and Larry Markin. And this is a weird time, right? I mean, the big three was a while ago now. That was incredible to think you have a chance at a championship every year. This is a different feeling. Something I haven’t felt in my full lifetime of being a Spurs fan cuz I just I grew up watching the Spurs just knowing success. It’s been a bit of a downtime. And right back, we’re looking at the future, which is so interesting, so fun. Love the spurs from france.
Brace yourselves, the rings are coming.
Any update on Castle? Is he going to play in the first preseason game?
My W-L record prediction is 45-48 Ws for the Spurs.
Everyone talks about Harper and how good he can be, I’m honestly more excited about Bryant’s future. I think his ceiling and potential is higher than Harper’s.
51-31
Spurs fans need to get their heads out of the sand with all the minutia's of our line up. No one speaks about what the intentions of our coaching staff are for this year at all. We could be A+ on paper, but still at the mercy of the coaching staff. Do they even wanna win?, or just build, build, build.
Born and bread Texan, I used to everyone hating on Texas. For sure 51-31 this year if we have no major injuries. I'm sure we have top 3 benches and the most dedicated players!
I like Carter Bryant and I like what I saw during summer league. He’s a solid defender and probably going to be a Bruce Bowen type..great defense on primary or secondary scorers and gonna be able to hit the 3 from anywhere behind the line whenever they need a bucket.
The record will take care of itself cuz the team will gel when it needs to…I see this spurs team in the top 6 in the west and making the west finals. The league isn’t gonna be ready for how good the spurs are going to be.
I hope Bryant can become a new Pippen.
Thank you man I needed some hopium for my spurs after so much pessimism from national media lately
Josh, you're not being biased. You're just being right. For I too believe that the San Antonio Spurs will win or exceed expectations, I'm very optimistic and I believe that the San Antonio Spurs are going to win 55 games yes I said it 55 games tops ! They are going to surprise the NBA they will be the number one seed in the West and remember you heard it first on Spurs digest baby
Josh let me ask you something? is this article your crying about , is it going to affect the season? yall are sooo soft skinned. this generation is all about attention. the championship teams didn't give a shit like us fans that felt titles not fans that only heard of them. so stop complaining about who says what!! geez
One day we'll look back 2025 draft will be like 1996 or 2003 draft so many talented players that'll will one day be face of league
With the exception of OKC I think the spurs have more talent than any team in the west. 51 wins sounds about right. The key is Mitch Johnson.
I think they will be closer to 50 (maybe 47-48?) just because of Wemby alone.
