‘Shut down the Blue Jays’ offense’ – Derek Jeter on how Yankees can overcome 0-2 deficit in ALDS

Before we talk about what’s next for the Yankees, we want to hear from Aaron Boone as his team goes back home for Tuesday’s game 3 down 0-2. Baseball’s a funny game. Like, I, I know we’ll show up and ready to go expecting to win, uh, Tuesday night. So, um, you know, obviously, it feels like the world’s caving in around you and, you know, you lose two games like that, uh, in their building where it doesn’t go right. Um, but all of a sudden you go out there and and win a ballgame on Tuesday. The needle can change. There’s been a lot of weird things that have happened in baseball this year. This would not be the weirdest. Yankees have done it as recently as 2017 when they went down 0-2 to Cleveland and then came back to win that division Series. They’re going to lean on Carlos Rodan, who put together his finest year as a Yankee during the regular season against Shane Bieber for Toronto, looking to close it out. Derek, give us some perspective here. Yankees going home 0-2. One game like Aaron said, one game can change the dynamics of a series. One game changes the dynamics of a series when we played Boston. I’ve been on the other end we’re down 2 games. We went beat Oakland. What the Yankees have to try to do is try to find some positives from the end of this game, and the positive is the bats started waking up a little bit now. In the pregame, if we sat here and said the Yankees would score 7 runs, we’d probably say what they were gonna win, right? They need to continue swinging the bats, but they have to find a way to shut down the Toronto Blue Jays’ offense. Absolutely. Look, they were dead in the water for, you know, the first kind of 14 or 15 innings, not feeling good about themselves, wondering, do they have a heartbeat in there somewhere and look, I know they pounced the second tier of Blue Jays pitching, but you know the offensive mind as you go and you fly home tonight. You start feeling a little bit better, stand up a little taller, and you can trick yourself to say, you know what, fellas, if Max Freed would have played well or pitched well, we would have won. It would be 11. So maybe you build on that positivity. Do you agree, Poppy? They can bring Jesus back and they still gonna go to Cancun. It’s over. It’s a wrap just so you know this Toronto Blue Jay Lino ain’t playing around. They blowing this game up. I mean, guys, come on, come on, you guys did your best. You can’t go to heaven to play and they’re gonna beat you shot it down pump up the Yankees and you shot it down again. Keep it up. You’re gonna be in Cancun watching it with y’all. You know who loves. Who loves to hit a Yankee Stadium. Vlad Guerrero Junior’s numbers in the Bronx are even better than they are against the Yankees at home. All it takes is one game. It just takes one game that can turn the series. We could take a couple, we could take a couple of innings. We’re playing in the World Series in, um, 2000 against the Mets. We’re winning game 26-0 going into the top of the ninth inning. The Mets scored 5 runs. Now we won the game. But that momentum carried to game 3. The Mets won Game 3 obviously we came back and won the series, but. It is possible, you know, you’re on the flight if they didn’t score any runs if they would have kept this kid in longer they’d be on the flight sitting there like, oh God, I’m trying to figure out my swing but now you have a lot of people in that lineup saying. I feel a little something right now. I don’t say anything. I don’t say that. Don’t say anything. I tell you I love you so much, but the only chance that the Yankee has is if you, Mo, Andy, and A-Rod come back and play Reggie Jackson, Babe Ruth, all of them. Yo De Mario you Mary Jesus, right, yeah, I’m gonna just say what Andy Pettitte. And, and Cap, you know this, it’s been the 2nd day, Matty, and I haven’t had an Andy Pettit mention, so here’s my first one of many. It’s gonna be a long month, but he would always say in our private meetings, players only, he goes, fellas, I know we’re struggling. This is on us. I have to go out tomorrow and pitch 78 innings and hand the bottom up. That’s exactly why Derek doesn’t like it. I’m trying to be positive. Well that, that means it’s guys are killing all the deceased coming back, we can watch it in full game 3 in the Bronx Tuesday night 8 Eastern right here on FS One. The Yankees are undefeated in a pair of elimination games already this season. back up against the wall. They’ve got to win 3 in a row to keep their season alive game.

The ‘MLB on FOX’ crew discussed what Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees need to do in order to come back from a 0-2 deficit against the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS.

  1. 😊 well… They would have needed (actual) talent… (Queue your job share cult, replacements, necessity to win…) Yes people know what sleep deprivation is, what an invasion is. 🎉 What Germany, Japan is, what ww2 victim survival groups are. "Worlds caving in" my favourite.

  2. Didn't realize that fox also had sports commentators spouting nonsense as well as the news.
What are jeter and rodriguez talking about? Its OVER. Yankees are not winning this series. No chance, not happening. They are getting destroyed. Pack it up. This year, it belongs to the Jays, all the way!

  3. Poppy when the Red Sox performed a bigger task and came back 4,games straight on the Yankees were you guysdead in the water! You should learn a lesson and eat your words

  4. Listen before the playoffs even started no one had mentioned the Blue Jays as any potential threat considering they been in first place in the AL East since mid summer – Jays might’ve lost their AL lead towards the end of the season but they only improved their playoff roster by removing some of the problems. Jays are gonna fight for respect that no one gave them. It’ll be interesting games to watch in New York and how they respond to Toronto’s offence. Btw Vladdy is just warming up………..

  5. Listen I’m a lifelong yankee fan and I hate to agree with papi but this has been a shellacking. As much as it pains me to say, this team doesn’t have the killer instinct. Toronto wants it more, they haven’t tasted postseason baseball in a decade. This is new for those guys. The yanks make it every year and come up short. If they want to even consider making any sort of comeback, they need to up the intensity and up the focus to levels I’m unsure they are currently capable of. Either way, something needs to change in this organization imo.

  6. " shut down the blue jays offense" Where did that idea come from. Oh Yeah ! Do to the jays what they did to the Yankees. Easier said than done. 4 rocket scientist without a lab.
