Money Quotes:
“It was the first time I really had a one-player meeting,” infielder José Caballero said.
“We kind of needed somebody to get (on) our asses like that,” third baseman Ryan McMahon said.
So what exactly does Aaron Boone DO here? And why does Judge wear a C on his jersey?

Love Stanton, but he swung at a pitcher two feet out of the zone to end the game yesterday. Historically, hes been good in the postseason for us, but everyone on this roster needs to play better baseball. Point blank
Not one of us knows what really goes on in that clubhouse. And sometimes you need to hear something a different way from one of your peers. Why would it be a negative thing if a player gave the team a kick in the ass and it showed positive results?
no bro ownership is a cancer. we’re done
Yankee fan for 30 years. I’d be shocked if they can win 3 in a row against Toronto. Toronto is clearly the better team this year. Can’t belief Fried got slapped around like that though. Lights out in the regular season. Lit up in a must-win situation. Tsk tsk
I’ve been wondering this for a while. Judge’s “aww shucks” shtick doesn’t do anything. He’s a nice enough guy, and he’s the best batter on the planet, but what’s he led our guys to?
“It was good for everybody to hear,” Judge said, “and for all of us to kind of look in the mirror, like, ‘Hey, am I really giving it my best? Am I really giving it my all? Time to turn around and get things moving.’”
I’m telling you, this team was just waiting. Waiting for “things to turn around” as if it wasn’t up to them to do the turning.
I honestly feel that a lot of the time, the hitters are all out for themselves. The pitchers seem to have a really nice bond amongst themselves, but I really think that every offensive player thinks that they have to be the one to go out and hit a home run to save the day. Instead their game plan should be stringing along base hits, moving runners over, and eventually the big hit will come. I’m sure analytics will disagree with me but I think analytics need to be thrown out in the postseason. Those stats may work over the course of a 162 game season, but time and time again this team has shown that we need a different strategy in the postseason. Offense is stagnant year after year. Last year we had Stanton and Soto to get us out of the funk. One of them is gone and the other just doesn’t have it right now.
These motivational speeches every postseason is getting tiring ngl.
A team *should* have multiple leaders; I see no difference between Judge being a quiet and confident leader while Stanton is more likely to show fire exactly mirroring Jeter and Posada
There’s been several pairings like this over the years; Gehrig and Bill Dickey, Munson and Lou, even CC/Gardner and Judge more recently before Judge was made captain
I hate to be a doomer as they have proven me wrong so many times this year when I get down on them. I try to remind myself of the comeback in the 96 WS after being noncompetitive in the first 2 at home. But…im just not seeing it this time. Hope im wrong.
On top the fact that G is playing the worst out of everyone on the roster when your ace pitcher gets lit up for 6 runs and your other starter can’t go 4 innings there isn’t much hope for you. Its obviously not over but the turn around would need to be historic.
I’ve just become so disillusioned with this team over the last decade or so. Much as Judge is exciting to watch during the regular season, this mediocrity makes the team uninteresting and un-entertaining.
I think I watched less than 5 ball games this year, not including the playoff series so far.
actually, I remember one time we were playing against Toronto and it was 0-2 and Stanton said: “Guys if you think we are good, let’s prove it now”
“did we comeback”
“of course not. 0-3”
Why wait to give that speech when you are almost in Cancún? Why has to be always like that with this damn team?
Not defending Mr. Not October Aaron Judge, but for all the hate he’s getting, it wasn’t Jeter ripping new assholes from 96-14, it was Posada.

I’m all for Stanton being the loud fired up leader to go along with Judge’s quiet confidence or whatever. But not a single regular is hitting lower than Stanton’s current .150 BA this postseason. Wonder how Stanton could word an ass-kicking speech to a bunch of guys that are hitting better than him and playing defense. Just saying.
Also, to be clear, I love the guy.
If you’re wondering why it’s not a “*swift* kick in the ass,” it’s not Giancarlo’s fault. – Bob Costas
Are people not reading the article? The speech happened in the beginning of August and the news about it is just coming out now.
Great, but this won’t erase the fact that Ernie clement has been better than Aaron judge this series. Why is it so hard for him to make solid contact right now yet a fuckin bum like clement can go deep like it’s nothing?
Paywall
is that last sentence metaphorical? Judge has a captain patch on his jersey? Never noticed it
Aaron Boone does absolutely nothing. The team does nothing wrong the players are fantastic blah blah blah…. That’s exactly what he says in every dumb interview after losing. He never yells at players or gets on their asses to light a fire under them. He doesn’t really give a s***. Why? Because he’s Cashman’s lackey and “yes” man. He does whatever Cashman and his squad of stats idiots say to do. Nothing more and nothing less. That’s why they haven’t done anything special in like….FOREVER. And it all starts up @ the top of the tree all this rot and disgusting crappy attitude and not caring if they win or not that’s right I’m talking about the owner Hal Steinbrenner. His dad NEVER would’ve put up with this s***. But Hal doesn’t care because he’s still making tons of money. That’s all he cares about.
Fuck Paywalls.

Home field. Best crowd in sports. We got the pitching edge. If we get swept, Boone should be gone and Cashman. Embarassing so far.
It’s the playoffs..
They need a kick in the ass?
plunk Vlad Jr. first at bat
Seen this before…..
I hate to say this, but it’s a curse. A curse from those two schmucks last year who interfered with Mookie Betts. A curse from bad karma.
And it’s over. They just don’t have the same drive, hunger that the teams from the late 90s early 2000’s had.
Pumping your fist in the air or taking a curtain call because you hit a home run ain’t it.
And until they get rid of that manager there will never be another WS win in the Bronx. Ever.
And Judge had better stop that stupid smiling. The ghosts of JoeD, Babe, Scooter, Yogi are all saying WTH are you smiling at? The Boss would be apoplectic.
Sorry my fellow fans but it’s the truth.
