Boomer & Gio RIP Jets’ “Embarrassing” Loss, “Worst Defense in Football!”

been years and years and years, really bad coaches, really bad games, end of season games that really don’t mean anything at all. But I I really think this this one, and I’ I’ve been thinking about it, so it’s not just like top of- mind thing or whatever reason he buys, but this this game yesterday was one of the most pathetic I have seen either team play over this stretch of terrible football. But this Jets defense now consistently has been right there the worst in football week in and week out. If you look at some of these stats you go through the the third downs getting off the field, you know, stopping teams, they are horrible. So I don’t know if it’s Steve Wils, I don’t know if it’s Aaron Glenn, I don’t know if it’s just horrible talent. Chances are it’s all combined into one. But this defense now, after watching the Cowboys actually play some defense yesterday against Justin Fields, which I guess isn’t all that hard to do, the Jets have to have the worst defense in football. So, they’re getting torched all over the place. And then the Cowboys defense, which I thought was the worst in football, was one of the worst I’d ever seen in a singular football game earlier this year against the New York Giants. They’re making stops all over the place. The Jets have three points at halftime. There’s turnovers. There’s penalties. They’re not getting better. They’re getting worse every week. And I I have to say I was laughing because whoever was producing this game was had it out for Aaron Glenn because anytime there was a penalty or a turnover, they cut right to his face. Right to his face. And at one point towards the end of the game, you know, the whatever the last turnover, the last horrible penalty, they they went to a shot Aaron Glenn zoomed in on him for 45 seconds. just a slow zoom on his face. And this is what you’re going to get when all you talk about is discipline and and ships turn slow and stack Legos and we’re going to be a team you’re going to be proud of. How you couldn’t be more embarrassed by this team yesterday. Add to the fact there was probably I mean I wasn’t there but there had to be at least 50% Cowboy fans there, you know, just spitting in your face over this game. Just awful. I mean, he this is early in this process, but they have shown zero signs of improvement. Well, you uh you you you can’t be for the you can’t have Finn Hart, that’s for sure, if you’re Aaron Glenn. And I know it’s not easy. And I don’t I don’t advocate for any of these guys ever to get fired. Only the re and the only reason I say that is because I know how difficult their job is and and what it requires in order to be a success. And there are a lot of reasons why they were not going to be a success early in this year. I don’t think any of us thought either the Jets or the Giants were going to be anything to taking uh taken seriously. And I know I I saw Richard Sini put out a a tweet like, you know, he’s been around the Jets for a long long time all the way back to when I was playing. And you know, he was equating yesterday’s game to some of the code tight era games. You know, I wasn’t there for the one and 15 season. I was there for the three and 13 season. And I think I missed four and a half games due to a concussion. And I remember we lost a game to the expansion team Panthers, the Carolina Panthers that year. And I think Bubby Brster threw an interception on a shovel pass to Sam Mills. I So I like So I’m thinking back to some of those games that that I played in and that I was a part of like the opening game against the the Miami Dolphins where it was a freaking disaster. But we came back and we beat the Jaguars the next week. We got to one and one at least. And and and Aaron was a part of that team. So he knows really bad football. And I I keep reminding you that he was a part of an 01 start in Detroit with Dan Campbell and things were ugly. And they actually had what has turned out to be a really legitimate quarterback in Jared Goff who’s in the MVP race now. But I all I’m saying is that I it it is ugly. There’s no question about it there. And there’s only one guy in there that can stand tall, and that’s got to be the head of coach. He can never give in. He can never publicly give in. Neither can Brian Dable. No, no matter what the reality of the situation is in their eyes, in their building, when they are out there publicly, they’re going to give you these these answers that you’re not going to be happy with. Nobody’s going to be happy with because the teams are losing. And the way that they’re losing is what’s driving people crazy. the fumbles, the penalties, and yesterday was the Giants turn with five turnovers. Yeah. And five straight possessions with turnovers. That That’s insane. No, it was. But I think I I guess what what makes all this worse with the Jets right now, and I didn’t expect either team to be good. I I’ve said that over and over again. I just I never pick these teams. When we do our picks, they’re they’re awful and I expected bad seasons. But the fact that Aaron Glenn has done nothing but preach discipline. This is what this was supposed to be about. If they won four games, they won three games, won five games, and he was even asked, “What’s the thing you want Jet fans to think about this team? I want to be proud of them. I want the fans to be proud of us.” It’s been the exact opposite of that. They’re not in these games. Some Well, they weren’t in yesterday. They weren’t in the Bills game. They’ve been in some other in the game until like two minutes to go in the first half. Jerry did the game. Two minutes ago in the first half. I mean, are you serious? I mean, so they have a couple issues that happened right then and there. They’re awful. And they got their asses handed to them by the Dallas Cowboys. And when it’s Oh, Aaron Glenn read the team the riot act after the last game with the penalties and turnovers. Oh, that worked out. I mean, more turnovers, more fumbles, more penalties. It’s like, so if that’s what you’re teaching and they’re not understanding that and it’s the same thing every week, then what is the solution? What is it? Is it is they don’t have they tuned him out already? That stupid of a roster where they can’t out? Honestly, sitting here 3 years after they made the trade for Aaron Rogers, sitting here three years after that and everything that this franchise has gone through for the last three years. I wish now if I could if they could have done it all over again that they would have signed Baker Mayfield. Yeah. To to me that would have been the personality type that the Jets would have needed at quarterback that and and I’m not I’m not dumping on Justin Fields or anything right now. I’m just saying that why did he dump on him? He was pathetic yesterday. I know. But I’m what I’m saying is that that would have been the guy the personality the guy that could have probably overcome a lot of the the internal strife that’s going on, you know. And it I feel like every year we get here with one of these coaches and there’s always this stuff going on internally that you know they they’re they can’t control and you know I I see so we work with Mike Flegelman. He’s a huge Jet Taylor Swift and Met fan. Okay. And right now he’s very happy with Taylor and very unhappy with the Jets to the point where he says he’s given up his fandom for the Jets because he wants Woody Johnson to sell the team and the team’s never going to change unless Woody Johnson sells the team. I mean that that’s that’s the diehard Jet fan feeling. Yeah. You know that. Of course. I mean it’s sort of like what we went through as Mets fans with the Will Ponds and people screaming and you know it’s got to be somebody else and the the coupons and this and that. Yeah. I mean, ownership is a is a big problem. And they continue to do the same thing, hiring inexperienced head coaches on the defensive side of the ball and hoping that it works out and and hiring uh untested GMs. Yeah. Yeah. First time general managers as as well. I mean, and I Mike McCagnon, first time general manager. Joe Douglas, first time general manager. Although I thought Joe did actually an excellent job. Just that, you know, Aaron Rogers blew his Achilles out, right? Who would have ever expected that, right? So, and now you have, you know, Darren Muji and you have an inexperienced head coach. You have an inexperienced offensive coordinator and you have a defense coordinator who has a very very sketchy track record when it comes to success with defense. I mean, they they are that and everybody’s seeing it now, too. If you see these guys, you know, these national guys breaking down the film, they can’t understand why the Jets are doing what they’re doing uh defensively. I mean, you called it from the beginning with Steve Wilks, and I mean, he was supposed to come here and be the veteran head coach presence that was going to help out a young, experienced staff. Instead, he’s just made everything worse. I mean, I And this defense was overrated when it was supposed to be good and it was losing games. How this group can be that bad with players that we expect to be good. I mean, they’re they’re just not. I mean, I don’t know. Sauce Gardner earned that contract? Did he really? I mean, he was He earned the contract because of what the the team was doing with the coaching staff. That’s how So then So then he didn’t then he didn’t earn it on his own merit. But he basically he was bought off to basically keep quiet and support the coaching staff. That’s not That’s not how you build a good team. I’m just telling you that’s not how you build a team. But that’s the decision that was made. Fine. But you think that’s a good idea? Well, you know why? because he’d be the first guy m he might be the first guy that would have said had he not had his contract extension, I can’t wait to get the hell out of here. Then get him out of here because he’s part of the problem. Instead, you’ve got him now halfassing it out there with his contract that you’re stuck into for I don’t know how long. This is why you got to be careful of of who you’re paying and when you’re paying them and how much guaranteed money you’re giving them. That that is a big deal. That is a really big deal. You know, it’s interesting when conversely when you look at Dak Prescott, he’s the highest paid player in the league. And he probably deals with more crap than anybody. And Jerry would know better than I would. More crap than any other player in football because the expectations are enormous for the Cowboys. They always are. The coaches out there, the the owners out there, everybody’s out there on his ass. He gets hurt, he loses, they lose. Everybody blames him for getting hurt. When in actuality, when he’s on the field, they can beat anybody they play. That’s how good he is. I mean, that that’s why he’s a top six or seven quarterback in the league, and that’s why he’s in the MVP conversation. The Jets haven’t had anybody like that. No. Although Justin Fields looked good in spurts this year, and he’s looked like the worst player to ever put on pads in another. That’s who he is. That That’s the player who he is. That’s the who Chicago knows who he was to be. That’s Pittsburgh. They know who who he is and what he’s capable of. And now the Jet fan is seeing that and for some reason both Aaron Glenn and Darren Bjie felt like, you know, we’re going to give this guy $40 million and he’s going to be our quarterback. They could have went Daniel Jones. Not that would have been any better here. Daniel’s Daniel’s in the place he needs to be, right? He’s flourishing with a team that actually has a good roster, a good offensive line, solid wide receivers, and a running back that basically is one of the he’s having his Saquon Barkley year right now. And by the way, speaking of Saquon Barkley, what he hasn’t done much in Philadelphia this year. No, but I mean, all that kind of stuff has kind of gone by the wayside in Philadelphia. Well, yeah, but I mean they’re still the defending Super Bowl champs. He had a 2,000 yard season and they’re what, four- one, so not really by the wayside. They could be the Jets. They could be the Saints. They could be the Giants. And they lost the game and AJ Brown’s still bitching, which uh is which is what’s something’s going to have to happen there. Who who who would you if you were a team out there and you could trade for AJ Brown? What? I guess you would have to say like Kansas City, San Francisco. San Francisco 49ers. Why would you trade him to the NFC an NFC team if you’re the Howie Roseman’s not doing that? If he sends him somewhere banish him. What about Kansas City? You know where he’s going to trade him? was going to turn into the Lady Wizards, [Laughter] which is what Al called the Washington DC WNBA team this morning. The Wizards. Why were you even talking about that? I don’t know. I just feel like that season never ends. It’s like they’re always playing.

Boomer & Gio go off on the New York Jets after their humiliating loss to the Dallas Cowboys. From Aaron Glenn’s “discipline” message falling flat to another week of turnovers and penalties, the guys say this may be the worst Jets defense ever. Plus, they discuss whether ownership and coaching are the real problem — and if the team should’ve gone after Baker Mayfield instead of Aaron Rodgers.

  1. Jets Hire Mike Holmgren as GM
WOW 🤩 The Packers’ 1992 coaching staff, led by Mike Holmgren, was STACKED — with FIVE future NFL Head Coaches 🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

    ✅ Jon Gruden
    ✅ Steve Mariucci
    ✅ Ray Rhodes
    ✅ Andy Reid
    ✅ Dick Jauron

    📸: Corey Colbert

  2. Glenn didn't fumble those balls or miss the tackles and make penalty after penalty. It's the players, a lot of which need to go but the problem is they're not easily replaceable. You can't continue to fire coach after coach without even giving them a chance to establish their own system. It's the same thing they do over and over again and gets the franchise nowhere fast.

  3. The jets have a roster of flash players. They flash here and there but no real substance, and I believe they are being coached to a system that they are not comfortable in, showing all their weaknesses

  4. If Justin Fields is gonna be a team's quarterback, they need to build an offense around what Justin Fields does well.
Problem is, the Jets seem to be short of a lot of pieces to make that work.

  5. I went to NYG from 1987 – 2009. Dallas fans were friendly & polite. Worst were Steelers & Vikings. I am also NYY fan, trying to sothe myself with Jet fan misery.

  6. Jets for the last 3 years spent resources on the offense design for Aaron Rodgers an immobile pocket passer. This roster doesn't work with a running QB who can't throw very well. Without a good defense they can't run the ball.

  7. The Jets are the Chicago Bears! Need a new owner! It's the first season at least give the new coaches a chance, the Jets have been bad for a long time!

  8. Crazy how boom said it perfectly when he 1st how gio went directly to piling it on the jets never heard one word boom said..laughs when boom brought how a fumble lead to a 90 plus yrd drive for a td. Than with 30 seconds left another drive off a 60 yrd run that lead to another td .. gio sounds like a clown on this one sorry.

  9. Maybe the players are the problem…..that’s the one consistent thing about the team. Coaches have changed, players haven’t.

  10. Football is a simple game. You run, pass, block and tackle. Whoever does it best wins . Obviously the Jets can’t do it. The plays are the same for every team, a screen pass is a screen pass, an off tackle is an off tackle, a post pattern is a post pattern.
If you can’t execute the play you lose.
